Winter has fully set in the Sword Coast and Western Heartlands.

The Harbour of Baldur's Gate had frozen over, as did every city and village north of it. Smaller rivers have turned to solid ice and snow reigns supreme across the Fields of the Dead and many forests and grasslands that can be traversed. This year's winter is marked as the first ever since the Time of Troubles. Some worry if that means Auril will be particularly harsh towards everyone.

Snow falls in abundance in Baldur's Gate, Elturel, Berdusk and many other towns and villages. The usual daily tasks have halted, as did the sea and river trade. With the mercantile season over, Baldur's Gate traditionally sees most inns being seemingly more empty and always having a free room to stay at. Peddlers are staying over the winter wherever they have been at.

With that, the Feast of the Moon draws near. A time of remembrance of all who died in wars and not.

The Final March for a Familiar Face

The tall knight of Tyr returns to the city of Baldur's Gate with a familiar criminal from years back. With his head hung low, the man beside was this time adorned with the heraldry of the Beregost guard. The two of them walked through the city, while Gaven of Tyr and Triad shielded the soldier of Beregost from the crowds of Baldurians who hurled garbage in outrage. The name of Daemon Trillus poured through the streets with the shouts of his misdeeds to the city. Those familiar with the former Banite expect the trial to be a sentencing hearing considering his past crimes. His guilt was evident, but his regret was debatable.

An Argument in the Street

In the following days after the acquisition of Daemon Trillus, Abbot Eldric Sulnar is met in the street by a man in long yellow robes and three Lathanderite soldiers. The greetings go well between the two, and at first seem civilized. When the two begin to discuss the prisoner awaiting sentencing, the two older men become more animated. While stoic in their nature, heated words directed to the abbot include "Tyrrant" and "thief". The quiet chatter quickly dissolves as their disagreement grows. The Most Radiant assures the abbot that this miscarriage of justice will not be forgotten, and that they intend to fight for the release of the former town guard of Beregost.

A Startling Display

A crowd gathers outside of the temple of Tyr. The whispers of confusion and anger spill over the crowd as they watch the display of vandalism across the mortar work of the symbolic building. In the last evening the words "Murderer" and "Tyrrant" were painted in deep red paint across the walls of the temple. While the building seems mostly disturbed there was a break in one of the windows. The Flaming Fist have little to report on the incident. Those that heard the window breaking quickly chased the man down. He was said to be shorter, and wearing a brown hood. The temple of Tyr has stated its vigilance in holding this individual to the word of the law.

Rumour has it yet another city robbery occurred in the city famed for it's law and order, well apart form the occasional devil and dragon incursion. The house of a ship foreman Frand Fellman, well known in the docks as a dedicated worker was broken into. It appears Frand returned after another 16 hours of honest toil and disturbed the thief or thieves and later he was found dead within the sanctity of his own hard earned home. It seems uncertain quite how he died but dead he was. The honest ship makers Guild has demanded action. The response from the Dukes office to a growing number of crimes was a crackdown was on it's way. Let no one be in doubt it is the Dukes run this city.

Shadows In The Night

19 Ches, 1359 - Those who worship at the feet of sorrow and despair have their dreams troubled by a rare vision: A man is strangled by his own obsidian cloak as he desperately claws at his neck and his last gasps fill the air. His hands bleed from markings that designate him a traitor and an insufferable woman tends to the wounds with futility.

The Breaking!

Today is the day of the Breaking! The City-wide celebration is traditionally held on the day the last ice thaws and breaks from the harbour, thus reopening the season of naval commerce.

It is the first Breaking since the Time of Troubles, known as Godswar, had come to pass and gods walked the land in mortal forms. Many people of all lands, during that troubling time, had witnessed and experienced horrifying and astonishing events in equal measure. Some were broken by them. Others- the rare few- were elevated by them. Most, however, survived and carry on.

As usual, Grand Duchess Liia is making her appearance in various parts of Baldur's Gate- bearing gifts to tireless workers of the Docks and the burghers of the Lower City. These are, just as in previous years, cinnamon buns and a single carnation flower in form of a wish for a good and joyous spring season.

Inns and taverns prepare themselves for the influx of peddlers, travellers and merchants from all over the Sword Coast and beyond. The rich noblemen host private parties in their manses nestled in the High City all the while planning how to continue their income of wealth. With the new season, new opportunities come once more.

Everyone welcomes Spring.

In the Wide of Baldurs Gate, Harry Mudd seems to be a bit enthusiastic towards patrons, who looked as if they handle a thing or two, actively showing you in particular specific items that have come up in consignments.

"You know how the summoning of undead is illegal in Duchal Lands? Best arm yourself with these for protection." Harry makes emphasis on arms and protection, that would do well against undead and protect against necromancy.

Shadows In The Night, Part 2

21 Tarsakh, 1359 - Those who venerate Secrets and Loss receive a second vision. Dark shadows somehow wipe carved words from a stone tablet, leaving it blank and empty. A figure surrounded by seven blue-white stars comes to barter. A stone of blackest night is exchanged for the tablet. The shadows do not object. The shadows do not interfere. The figure takes the tablet. And slowly, as he tries desperately to read the text that has long since been wiped clean, the figure clutches at his skull and goes completely mad.

THE TRIAL OF MELYSE BLACKHALL
Image
Credit: Mark Buluhao
Rumors spread that Lady Melyse Blackhall (née Turie) was arrested at her manor for the murder of her husband, the merchant Edywnne Blackhall. It is said that her accuser is a fellow noble of Baldur's Gate, Lord Eugene Denton, who had been involved in a real estate dispute with the beleaguered noblewoman.

Lady Blackhall's advocate puts out a statement: "Lady Melyse Turie is a well-respected and deeply beloved member of the city's nobility and these accusations leveled by Lord Denton are entirely baseless and false. We are fully confident that Lady Turie's innocence shall be incontrovertibly proven at trial."

The trial date has been tentatively set for: // MONDAY, MAY 8, at 1900 Pacific / 2200 Eastern

Raided!

A village near the Sword Coast, just south of the Troll Hills, was razed to the ground!

The few survivors that made it to other villages and eventually Baldur's Gate recount that they've been taken by surprise by some group of men and women- all clad in red- during night-time hours. While the settlement was read for a stray single troll attack, they were not ready for an entire band of bandits engaging the defenders from all sides.

The adventurers hired to protect the village have all been slain. What remains is only ashes and bodies... And a single note- written in blood.

Delays

There's been a small commotion at Balduran Harbour for the last three days. Apparently, two ships importing pottery and various refined metals have supposedly gone missing.

The Flaming Fist refused to send their ships out for patrol and instead directed the merchants involved in the shipments to hire privateers. Tongues are wagging in nearby taverns that the shipment either is delayed due to bad weather conditions and it's just a temperamental merchant, which is nothing new, or perhaps it felt prey to pirates.

Which isn't anything new, either. Time will tell.

Some rumours spread of a man named in robes, some say their name was Kanett....Kiznett...something? Attempted to steal from a group of homeless people down by the docks and was confronted by the city watch due to how spectacularly poorly this attempted heist went, it was the talk of the local dockyard for some time.
