Items of Note

Embroidered Red Cord
This simple piece of cord has been adorned with embroideries. The depiction of a rose and of a crocus frame delicate letters: Mercy. The side of the embroidery has been adorned with a white thread, while the other side has been stitched with a black thread. Hidden on the other side of the
embroidery, three celestial runes are sewed, red on red, barely visible :
Perseverance
Justice
Courage

Declan carries this cord wrapped around his sword hand, to remind him of Mercy when he draws his weapon. It was a simple red cord, until Declan asked Sister Ashenie to bless it before he left on a campaign. The embroidery and embellishments were made by her. He carries it as his holy symbol of Ilmater.
Manacles, Tyrran Clasps
These manacles have been blessed by a priest of the Tyrran faith. Along the clasps are celestial runes carved into the metal. At the center of each clasp there is a gold embossed depiction of the Scales of Justice. The chain is reinforced and doubled, allowing for little movement when worn.

Declan carries these manacles as a holy symbol of Tyr.

The echoes of hoofbeats resonated heavily as they traversed the undulating hills of the Greenfields. A group of mounted men engaged in meticulously executed drills, honing their skills in preparation for their imminent journey. Commands rang out from the leaders, directing the heavily armored soldiers to align themselves, their steeds adorned with chain barding and sturdy leather saddles.

Seated atop his trusted warhorse Aegis, Declan observed the formation taking shape just off to the side. His unwavering focus rested upon the men as his commanding voice reverberated across the line.

"The frigid grip of winter tightens its hold on this land, instilling despair in the hearts of those ensnared by its relentless grasp. We confront a formidable adversary, my comrades, one that embodies fury and commands its malevolence."

Declan strode purposefully along the line astride Aegis, making direct eye contact with each soldier as he spoke.

"Atop the mountain, they reside within their icy sanctuary, weaving maleficent spells that imperil the very existence of our cherished homes. Many have already succumbed to the chilling embrace that permeates every dwelling, from grand houses to humble cottages and barns. The region's provisions dwindle to a disheartening scarcity."

His voice surged with unwavering conviction as he continued.

"We are the force that shall bring an end to this calamity, for we possess noble hearts and steadfast resolve. We possess the courage to defy the divine wrath that seeks to engulf us. Not all among us shall return to the embrace of loved ones, nor shall we remain unscathed by the trials that await us. Yet, in this very moment..."

Declan's voice dipped, carrying a somber note.

"...we must not waver in our duty. We bear the responsibility to shield those who cannot shield themselves. We must stand resolute against this malevolence, forming an impenetrable bulwark, safeguarding the innocent. We shall be the light that pierces through the encroaching darkness, threatening to consume us all."

With an emphatic crescendo, Declan spurred Aegis forward, wheeling around to face the assembled men.

"Duty binds us, mercy guides us, and justice prevails... FOREVER VIGILANT!"

The line of men erupted in thunderous cheers, shouts of affirmation, and the resounding clash of drawn blades held aloft. In that exhilarating moment, Declan heard the unified chorus of his soldiers, resolutely echoing his final words.

Declan returned to his field tent in Triel, the weariness of recent events etched upon his features. The weight of his responsibilities as a steadfast defender of House and village had been a relentless burden, but the time had come to seek respite in the solitude of his humble abode.

As he stepped inside the tent, the soft glow of flickering candlelight illuminated the space, casting dancing shadows upon the canvas walls. The scent of weathered leather and the lingering aroma of campfire lingered in the air, reminders of the arduous days spent in the field.

With measured steps, Declan made his way to the center of the tent, where an armor rack stood proudly, awaiting the arrival of its revered occupant. His movements, though fatigued, retained a sense of purpose and discipline. Each buckle and strap that held his gleaming armor in place was deftly undone, revealing the intricate craftsmanship and protective strength that had shielded him in countless battles.

With a sigh of relief, he gingerly lifted the breastplate from his weary frame, feeling the comforting release of weight from his chest. The polished metal glinted in the candlelight, reflecting the faint remnants of the day's hardships and victories. He placed it carefully upon the awaiting rack, where it stood as a testament to his unwavering dedication.

Next came the gauntlets, encasing hands that had wielded sword and shield with unwavering skill. As each piece of armor was methodically removed, the fatigue of his body and soul seemed to dissipate, replaced by a growing sense of tranquility. The greaves, the pauldrons, the vambraces—each component was treated with reverence, a silent acknowledgment of the battles fought and the battles yet to come.

Finally, as Declan shed the last piece of armor, his once-encumbered body breathed a sigh of liberation. He stood in the humble sanctuary of his tent, a warrior transformed into a man. The weight of his responsibilities, if only momentarily, seemed to lift from his broad shoulders.

With a grateful nod to the armor rack, he gently arranged the pieces in their rightful places, ensuring that they would be ready when duty called again. It stood as a testament to his unwavering commitment, an embodiment of his steadfast resolve.

Now free from the trappings of war, Declan retired to his simple cot, where dreams awaited him. As he closed his eyes, he couldn't help but reflect on the recent events that had shaped his path—the battles fought, the lives protected, the sacrifices made. Tomorrow would bring new challenges, but for this fleeting moment, he would rest, knowing that he had fulfilled his duty with unwavering dedication.

And so, in the quiet stillness of his field tent, Declan embraced the solace of the night, his body and spirit rejuvenated, ready to face whatever trials the dawn would bring.

As the morning sun illuminated the sky, casting its radiant glow over the city of Triel, Declan awoke with a sense of purpose and determination.

Before embarking on his daily duties, the knight took a moment to organize his tent. He meticulously folded his blanket, ensuring its smooth alignment with the cot. Every item in his humble abode was carefully arranged, leaving no detail overlooked. With a nod of satisfaction, he confirmed that his living quarters were impeccable, a testament to his disciplined nature.

Declan then turned his attention to the ritual of donning his armor. Each piece was secured with precision and care, his movements guided by a solemn reverence. With every buckle fastened and strap tightened, he uttered a quiet prayer, a whispered communion with the divine.

“Mighty Triad, I humbly bow before your divine presence.

Tyr, embodiment of justice and fairness, Grant me the wisdom to discern right from wrong, To champion truth with unwavering resolve.

Ilmater, compassionate harbinger of endurance, I beseech you to instill within me fortitude, To bear the burdens of suffering and despair, And offer solace to those in dire need.

Torm, fierce guardian of duty and loyalty, Guide my steps upon the righteous path, Grant me unwavering commitment to my cause, To protect and defend with unwavering zeal.

Triad of divine unity, I seek your guidance, Illuminate my way through the darkest of times, Infuse my heart with virtues unyielding, And lead me towards the glory of your divine grace.

In your sacred presence, I find strength and purpose, Grant me your blessings, O Triad divine, As I walk the path, ever faithful to your teachings, May your divine light forever shine upon me.

Amen.”

As he completed the process, he sheathed Silverbite, his prized silvered longsword. A gift bestowed upon him by Sister Christine, it served as a constant companion and symbol of his dedication to the righteous cause. Justicar and his old Family Blade, both loyal weapons in his possession, found their places on his back sheathes, ready to accompany him on his journey.

Gazing at the interior of his tent, now in pristine order, Declan's lips curved into a gentle smile. He took a moment to appreciate the tidiness he had achieved, even amidst the ruggedness of the field. Snuffing out the candle flame, he turned his gaze to the world outside.

Stepping out from his sanctuary, the morning sunlight danced upon his gleaming armor, casting reflections of strength and resilience. With unwavering determination, he embarked on his path, his footsteps carrying him toward the presence of Sir Marshall.

Eager to receive his orders for the day, Declan moved with purpose and anticipation. The weight of his armor served as a reminder of his duty, a reminder of the honor and responsibility entrusted to him. Guided by the light of the rising sun, he set forth, ready to face the challenges that awaited him, prepared to defend the righteous cause and fulfill his role as a loyal knight of House Marshall and Triel.

As the day waned and the sun began its descent, casting long shadows across the make shift camp positioned in the Greenfields, Declan found himself deep in preparation for the impending assault on the Temple of Auril. With each passing moment, his focus grew sharper, his determination unyielding.

Inside his field tent, Declan meticulously inspected his weapons and armor. His trusted sword, Silverbite, gleamed in the soft candlelight as he ran a cloth along its blade, ensuring its keen edge remained sharp. The armor, a finely crafted suit of steel plates, received his unwavering attention. Each buckle was checked, each strap secured, until Declan was satisfied that he was clad in the full protective embrace of his knightly garb.

Stepping outside, the knight made his way towards the roped off pen, where the horses stood patiently, their warm breath mingling with the crisp evening air. He took care to groom each steed, removing any traces of dirt and sweat, and checking their hooves for any signs of strain. It was a task he performed with reverence, recognizing the importance of these loyal companions who would carry him into battle.

As he worked, a soldier by the name of Thomas approached, his face etched with a mix of anticipation and apprehension. Thomas had been assigned to accompany Declan on this perilous mission, and the weight of the upcoming battle hung heavy in the air.

"Sir Declan," Thomas began, his voice slightly trembling. "Do you think we stand a chance against the forces of Auril? They say the temple is heavily guarded, and the priestesses wield powerful magic."

Declan paused for a moment, his gaze shifting from the horse to Thomas. He placed a reassuring hand on the soldier's shoulder, his voice steady yet filled with resolve. "Thomas, we face a formidable foe, there is no denying it. But we are not alone. We have trained for this moment, and we fight with the righteous cause of protecting those who cannot protect themselves."

Thomas nodded, finding solace in Declan's words. "Yes, you're right, Sir Declan. We must stand together and face this challenge head-on. Our purpose is just, and our hearts are filled with valor."

Declan smiled, his eyes filled with admiration for the soldier's newfound determination. "Indeed, Thomas. We must remember that courage and unity will carry us through the darkest of times. Trust in your training, trust in your comrades, and trust in yourself."

With renewed confidence, Declan continued his preparations, his mind focused solely on the task at hand. The hours slipped away, but his resolve burned bright. The assault on the Temple of Auril awaited, and Declan was ready to lead his men into the fray, their spirits bound together by an unbreakable sense of duty and justice.

The early morning sun bathed the campsite in a warm glow as Declan, surrounded by his loyal men, prepared to pack up and embark on the journey to Nashkel. The time for rest was over, and duty beckoned them forward.

With a sense of purpose, Declan went about his task, carefully packing his gear onto his trusted steed, Aegis. Each piece found its place, from his shield and sword to the rations and water flask. As he secured his belongings, he couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation coursing through his veins. The mission that lay ahead was crucial, and his heart was steadfast in its resolve.

Once his preparations were complete, Declan turned to face his men, the determination etched upon his face. He raised his voice, strong and unwavering, addressing the gathered soldiers who stood before him.

"Brothers in arms," Declan began, his voice carrying the weight of his conviction. "We stand on the precipice of a great challenge. Our path is fraught with uncertainty, and our duty calls us to face the unknown. But fear not, for we are united by our cause and bound by our unwavering courage."

He paused, his gaze sweeping across the faces of his comrades, taking in the steadfast resolve that mirrored his own. "Bravery is not the absence of fear, my friends, but the strength to face it head-on. We are warriors, defenders of righteousness, and it is in these moments that our mettle is truly tested."

Declan's voice grew resolute, carrying with it a sense of conviction that spread through the ranks like wildfire. "Remember, it is not the outcome that defines us, but the spirit with which we face our adversaries. Our actions shall be guided by honor, tempered by valor, and fueled by the knowledge that we fight for those who cannot fight for themselves."

A chorus of affirmations and nods echoed through the soldiers, their determination shining brightly in their eyes.

"So, my brothers, let us march forth with heads held high and hearts ablaze," Declan proclaimed, his voice ringing with an unyielding determination. "Nashkel awaits, and our duty beckons us onward. Together, we shall overcome any obstacle and emerge victorious."

With that, the men rallied, their spirits invigorated by Declan's words. They swiftly began packing up camp, a flurry of activity resonating with purpose and efficiency. As the last of the tents were dismantled, and the horses were prepared to move, Declan mounted Aegis, his gaze fixed forward, ready to lead his men into the unknown.

Field Journal Entry
Northwestern Tradeway Camp
House Marshall & Allies

Date: 1st of Flamerule, 1359

Today, a remarkable encounter unfolded in our camp. A majestic dragon, known to Alexander, made its presence known. The dragon, Caesingixthraeorn, or Singix it offered for short, approached us with Alexander extending a friendly greeting. I confess, at first sight, my hand instinctively reached for my sword, Silverbite, but Alexander's calm demeanor reassured me, and I swiftly sheathed my weapon.

Singix engaged in conversation with the gathered individuals, inquiring about paladin vows, reminiscent of Sir Marshall's dedication. It struck a chord within me, making me ponder my own path. While I am indeed a knight, I couldn't help but question whether I have heeded the higher calling of service. I remain faithfully devoted to the Triad, wielding my heart, shield, and sword in their name. Yet, I have never felt the resounding "Call" that Singix spoke of, despite my constant vigilance.

As I shared my response, admitting that I serve the Triad faithfully but have not taken the vows of a paladin, a sense of shame and uncertainty washed over me. Am I truly worthy of the path I tread?

Singix proceeded to share its own code, emphasizing justice, good, honor, fealty, and various other virtues. It struck a familiar chord within me, resembling the code carried by my ancestors, passed down through generations. The recitation of Singix's code made me realize the difference, primarily in matters of faith. It left me questioning the strength of my own convictions. Should I find solace in the code I inherited, rooted in my family's legacy? Or should I continue to strive for a level of devotion that has thus far eluded me? The answer eludes me, and my mind feels unsteady, wrestling with conflicting thoughts.

I find myself standing at a crossroads, uncertain of the path that once appeared so clear and bright. Shadows of doubt have cast their veil upon the road ahead, making it unfamiliar and daunting. I yearn to rediscover my certainty, to regain the stability and balance that I once possessed.

In the days to come, I shall embark on a journey of introspection and soul-searching. I must find my way back to the unwavering path I once trod, with renewed faith and determination. Only then will I be able to silence the doubts that have taken root within me.

Field Report
Date: 3 Flamerule, 1359
Location: Reaching Wood
Reporting Officer: Sir Declan Nash
Affiliation: House Marshall

Summary:
On the aforementioned date, while conducting a routine patrol within the Reaching Wood along the Northwestern Tradeway, I encountered a hostile group of gnolls. The engagement resulted in three gnolls neutralized, one gnoll shaman escaping, and myself sustaining injuries. This field report provides a detailed account of the encounter.

Details:
At mid-day, while traversing a narrow valley within the Reaching Wood, my warhorse Aegis and I were ambushed by a group of four gnolls. The gnolls demonstrated strategic positioning, with an archer, a shaman, and two warriors, aiming to attack unsuspecting travelers.

I swiftly drew my blade, Silverbite, and Aegis reared up in preparation for the impending conflict. The clash commenced, and I engaged the enemy with determination and resolve. Aegis utilized its formidable hooves to neutralize any gnolls that approached too closely.

During the heated engagement, I sustained a wound to my side as a gnoll warrior's blade breached my defenses. Despite the pain, I persisted in the fight, retaliating against the enemy forces. Aegis proved invaluable in the skirmish, delivering powerful blows to incapacitate several gnolls.

After a fierce battle, three of the gnolls were defeated, unable to withstand our combined assault. However, one wounded gnoll shaman, exhibiting magical prowess, managed to escape by employing an evasive spell. Regrettably, I was unable to apprehend the shaman before it vanished into the depths of the Reaching Wood.

Post-engagement, I attended to my injuries, employing basic field medical procedures to staunch the bleeding and provide initial treatment. Though wounded, my injuries are not life-threatening, and I expect a full recovery in due time.

Lessons Learned:
This encounter highlighted the cunning and ferocity of gnoll adversaries within the Reaching Wood. Their ability to set traps and utilize strategic positioning demonstrates their threat to travelers within the Reaching Wood.

Furthermore, it is evident that increased vigilance and situational awareness are paramount when patrolling this area. Additionally, measures should be taken to bolster our knowledge of gnoll activities within the region, particularly their potential alliances or affiliations.

Recommendations:
Based on this encounter, I recommend implementing the following measures:

1. Increase patrols and surveillance in the Reaching Wood to monitor gnoll activities and identify potential threats to travelers.
2. Coordinate with allied forces, such as local ranger units, to gather intelligence on gnoll movements and potential affiliations with other hostile groups.
3. Enhance training programs for field officers, emphasizing situational awareness, combat techniques against gnoll adversaries, and first aid procedures to handle injuries sustained in battle.

Conclusion:
Despite sustaining injuries, the engagement with the gnolls within the Reaching Wood was ultimately a success, with the majority of the hostile force neutralized. Moving forward, it is imperative to maintain a strong presence in the area, ensuring the safety of travelers and effectively countering the gnoll threat.
