Age may be deceiving when it comes to Sean Asen, as his face, though youthful, lacks the cheer and excitement commonly associated with men of his age. His countenance remains stern at all times, his eyes scanning his surroundings with the vigilance of a seasoned warrior, constantly alert for potential threats. Standing at an impressive height of 6'7" with a solid, heavily armed athletic build, Sean exudes an imposing presence.
Sean's blonde hair, neatly trimmed, frames his face and serves as a striking contrast against his intense, cauliflower blue eyes, which hold a depth of experience beyond his years. A close-trimmed beard adds an aura of ruggedness to his features, emphasizing his warrior-like demeanor.
Clad in armor that strikes a balance between defensive capability and freedom of movement, Sean's plated protection is designed to deflect blows when positioned strategically. However, it is noticeably lighter compared to traditional heavy armor, allowing him to navigate the battlefield with agility and ease. Adorned on his left hip is a longsword with a hilt of gleaming gold, a testament to his proficiency in close-quarters combat.
His attire bears the unmistakable mark of service to Baldur's Gate, proudly displaying his dedication to his duty. As a member of the City Watch, Sean's armor stands out due to its exceptional condition and superior quality. He often carries a sturdy shield slung over his shoulder and habitually carries his heavy helm beneath his left arm.
When he speaks, Sean's voice resonates with a powerful baritone, further reinforcing his authoritative presence. Despite his formidable exterior, there is an underlying sense of calm and righteousness that emanates from him, reminiscent of a noble knight.
History
Sean Asen was born into a humble farming family north of Beregost. His early childhood was marked by the tranquility and simplicity of rural life. However, tragedy struck when their peaceful existence was shattered by an attack from agents of The Zhentarim. Sean's family was mercilessly slain, and he himself was taken captive, along with two young girls who shared his fate.
For weeks, Sean and his fellow prisoners endured torment and suffering in a hidden bolthole of The Zhentarim. The psychological and physical abuse inflicted upon them left deep scars. In a twisted and macabre ritual, Sean was forced to bear witness to the pain and suffering of others, his only reprieve being to sit before a black altar of Bane. The darkness and cruelty he experienced threatened to drive him to the brink of madness, testing his young spirit and resilience.
But fate intervened in the form of a valiant warrior clad in gleaming plate mail. The sounds of violence and struggle echoed through the dark halls of the prison, signaling a chance at salvation. With a silver sword in hand, the warrior fought fiercely, carving a path to Sean's cell and freeing him from his captors. The liberation came at the cost of bloodshed, as the captors met their demise at the hands of the mysterious savior.
Escaping the clutches of The Zhentarim, Sean found himself seeking solace and a new life in the bustling city of Baldur's Gate. Fate led him to Mercy's Orphanage, a sanctuary built by Jonas Rokranon and cared for by the revered figure known as the Living Saint of Ilmater. Recognizing Sean's troubled nature and the darkness that clung to his soul, his rescuer, a man named Thedran, a protector of the building and a servant of Jonas and Saint Meri, took him under his wing and became his adoptive father.
Life at Mercy's Orphanage was far from ordinary for Sean. Under the watchful guidance of Thedran, his training became relentless and intense. Enduring grueling drills for hours on end, Sean's hands would bleed from the harsh training. His adoptive father, once met with skepticism, persisted in molding Sean's violent tendencies into something more disciplined and controlled. As the years went by, Sean's nature gradually transformed. The training expanded beyond physical combat, encompassing military tactics and strategic thinking.
Sean's journey at Mercy's Orphanage was a unique one. While his fellow orphans found solace and care, he was subjected to rigorous instruction and the pursuit of discipline. His progress and growth did not go unnoticed, as it became clear that Sean's violent inclinations were being tempered and redirected towards a purpose greater than himself.
As a young man, Sean Asen's journey took an unexpected turn when his father, Thedran, made the difficult decision to send him away from Mercy's Orphanage in Baldur's Gate to the distant land of Impiltur. There, Sean was placed under the tutelage of a senior member of The Order of The Holy Shrike, a revered organization known for its commitment to justice and righteousness. The purpose of his education and training was to further refine his skills and broaden his understanding of the world beyond his familiar surroundings.
However, Sean faced unique challenges during his time in Impiltur. His natural inclination towards action and a readiness to engage in combat often conflicted with the teachings of forgiveness and restraint instilled by his mentors. Eager to join any battle that presented itself, Sean struggled to find the balance between his desire for justice and the discipline required to temper his impulses.
Recognizing the need for a different approach, Sean's master devised a plan to test and shape his character. The opportunity came when news arrived in Impiltur of Thedran's untimely demise while defending the city. Sean was suddenly thrust into a pivotal moment of loss and grief. His master seized this moment to dispatch him on a personal errand, tasking him with attending to his family affairs and, more importantly, learning the profound meaning of forgiveness.
Returning to Baldur's Gate, Sean carried the weight of his father's sacrifice and the burden of his own journey towards understanding. He sought to complete his quest for temperance and reconciliation, embarking on a path of self-discovery and service to the people of his adoptive home. Guided by the teachings instilled in him by Thedran and his mentors in Impiltur, Sean endeavors to uphold the values of justice, compassion, and forgiveness.
Now, as he walks the streets of Baldur's Gate once more, Sean Asen stands as a beacon of hope, embodying the lessons learned and the trials overcome. With his unwavering commitment to defending the innocent and seeking justice, he seeks to make a difference in a world often plagued by darkness and strife. His quest for forgiveness continues, intertwining with his unwavering sense of duty, as he strives to become a true paladin, not only in skill but also in spirit.
