Setting traps in public areas

Unread post by Green Monster »

Thread title. Is that against the PvP rules since it leaves no RP option out of taking the damage? Or not? I ask because I just stepped on a trap set in the middle of the pathway in Roaringshore.

33 damage. If it had been a level 1 or 2 character they'd have died.

First of all, I'm sure that it's against Rules As Intended
Second of all, aren't PC set traps supposed to be friendly towards other PCs by default?

Sorry that trap might had been us, we had an attempted murder issue today , was trying to catch the bugger lol we might had forgotten to recover one or two but thought the reset would make it poof

All good. Just glad it was my level 29 and not someone's level 1.

Traps are friendly to all PCs. Even set to hostile I have not seen some go off.

I stepped on one and it went off. 33 cold damage. Either you're wrong or it was targeted at me.

Edit: OR a trap that is friendly becomes hostile when the person who set it logs

Hunter traps (created by the class ability) are friendly to all players (even hostile ones), and will only trigger against hostile NPCs.

Traps placed as part of trap-kits are hostile to everyone, except for the person who placed it and their direct party.
I can confirm this, as I just tested it. There was a patch last-year attempting to remove this feature, but it did not function.

Also worth keeping in mind that traps can and occasionally do just disappear from even a responsible player's UI, making it very difficult to tell if the area has been cleaned up, or concealing UXO.
I play a baker. Sometimes she provides counseling or treatment.
Ask about our Breadflower daily special to save five coppers off a purchase of five pastries.
She seems unusually interested in cursed items.
She has also been seeking a variety of gems and stones.

Good to know, thank you!

At first I thought it was someone griefing, possibly because they didn't know better, and I was concerned that if it continued a low level would die. Now it looks like an honest mistake committed under unusual circumstances that aren't likely to occur again. No worries.
