Death Penalty and UMD Dependant Players

Unread post by Tekill »

When one dies now, one gets a negative to all abilities and level drained depending on how long one was dead.

How does the level drain affect skills?
Do you lose a skill point for every level your are drained?
If I have gear that requires UMD to wear and I die- is that gear removed once I am rez'd?
Maybe I am getting ahead of myself. I have not had a character with UMD dependant gear die yet so I am not sure exactly what happens.

But, If I have a UMD of 15 and have a Traumatic Recovery, I lose 8 to all my ability scores (inc CHR) and half my levels. Does this mean if I am level 30, that I lose 15 skill points from my UMD skill on top of 8 pts of CHR, making it a 19 skill pt penalty to UMD?
Or maybe I only lose the skill points from the levels drained that I had put pts in UMD?
That would total approximately 11 pts to UMD if you were maxing it out as a cross skill, including the CHR penalty. That is still a lot?

It would seems that builds that are dependant on gear that requires UMD are extra penalized by the dealth penalties because now they also temporarily lose gear on top of abilities and levels. I have one character that will become pretty much naked after death. When he dies will his clothes just suddenly fly off of him, the momment he is raised?

I do not mind harsh death penalties upon death, but if UMD is being sapped upon death then certain builds are being penalized more than other builds upon death - and that would be unfair.

If this is the case then what if after being raised you had the ability penalties but instead of being level drained you had some other sort of affect, such as slowed, or dazed, or fatigued?

Speaking as someone who has a character with a couple UMD dependent items, I don't mind. It's not like I'm going to be out adventuring if I've had a traumatic recovery. I'm gonna be relaxin and not using my gear. Granted, the one character I have who uses UMD for something other than wands doesn't need it for her clothing. If you want some plain clothing to carry around that only weighs 0.2 lbs, contact me in game and I can hook you up. I have a couple of spare.

[Edit] In fact, I think it would be good for the server, especially the vain characters (you know who you are) if there were ultra lightweight clothing at Winding Water and Aelo's. AC 0 clothing with the property 10% of weight and no other property. Call it silk robes, or something.

Okay. I suppose its not a big deal.
I also suppose it makes sense your hat will get knocked off after receiving a beat down. I guess its not too far our off from there to imagine them knocking me clear out of my boots upon said smack down.

Due to errors in BW's level drain implementation, I think you'd lose 34 ranks of UMD. 2 for every negative level.

That said, Traumatic Recovery means you've been doing a great many things horribly wrong. You're generally not supposed to be respawning four or more times per reset.

This could and will cause issues with a nearly full inventory and items dropping on ground.

No, this was only the case with NWN1. I've had Dae look at the code and it's only 1 per negative level in NWN2.

That has not been my experience. I'll test later to verify.

EDIT: Confirmed. Dae is mistaken: I lost 7 ranks in everything after getting drained for 3 levels and -2 ability scores at level 20.
