Custom Mechanics Appreciation Thread

Unread post by Green Monster »

Mostly I post either a bug report or a suggestion or, rarely, build advice, because if I have time and am in front of the computer I'd rather play than be on the forum. However, I thought I would take a moment to let you people, especially the devs, know how much I appreciate the work you do.

LOVE shield bash, especially now that light shields are finessable. To me it's just perfect, because it provides more offense than just using a shield but less than using two weapons or a two-handed. It's just... *chef's kiss*. I love having the option to adjust my offense/defense ratio on a situational basis.

Currently using Create Diversion with my halfling rogue/bard and loving it. It's VERY skill intensive, of course, but it does save me from having to get mobility feat for shadowdancer (Mobility being pretty redundant for any dex character with high acrobatics) or devote 8 levels to assassin. This character has more skill points to spare than feats so it's a great fit. It's probably not, in the long run, a replacement for HiPS, but it's fun and works more than well enough for a character I don't plan to ever solo with. Thank you so much for it!

Demoralize Opponent (non MaA version) is also amazing. It's so good for my higher charisma tanks, like my Favoured Soul/Hospitaler/warpriest and my MaA. My one and only complaint about it is that it's a little TOO good. I think undead and constructs should all be completely immune, and extra-planer enemies like mephits, elementals, demons, devils, etc, should have a bonus to their opposed roll. They've seen some stuff out in the planes, they should be harder to impress. Other than that, it's perfection incarnate.

So, THANK YOU! SO much!

Has anyone else been using a custom mechanic you particularly enjoy? Let them know. Let me know so I can try it :P

Yup, and I'm also really enjoying the Jump feat, in the OC it always annoyed me to be "trapped" by a fence clearly no more than a couple of feet high

Grappling. Total Defense. Really, pretty much anything that came out of the ToT update. (I don't seem to be alone, given that both of you have expressed the same sentiments exclusively about other ToT upgrades. Except I guess the finessable bucklers, but that's just a minor refinement.)
European player, UTC+1 (+2 during DST). Ex-fixer of random bits. Active in Discord.
Active characters:
  • Zeila Linepret
  • Ilhara Evrine

It's not minor to dex chars, it's transformative! :P
