Astrax, Journeys of the Ranger Knight of the Wolf

Unread post by Matherhorn »

I was always a wild child, from my early days I would wonder the woods pretending to fight with two sticks in hand. I would jump over logs and around tree's. Run swiftly up mountains and over marshlands. Even with some dangorous animals and roaming orcs I always felt safe. I could track there steps, smell the filthy bodies and hear the clumsy loud crashing through the forrest.

One day while walking along a small safe path, a path I take when I just want to think and ponder things. I heard a small whimper from not to far off. I carefuly approached the sound to see a small young wolf with what looked to be a bad injury. Not one from another animal, it had the looks of a crude orc weapon, maybe an axe of spear.

I came to the wolf letting him know I was friend. He looked at me with soft but worried whimpering eyes. I did not have much idea of what to do, slowly I gathered him in my cloak and held him close as I traveled home. A temple of Helm was in the center of my village. I traveled there and knocked on the large heavy doors. They opened and a white clothed elf appeared. I showed him the wolf yet he turned me away. Only human folk he said. you best return him to the wild to die in the woods.

I did not care for this, and did not obey the priestly orders. I went to long river that flowed past the village. Setting him down still nestled in my cloak I just kept him company. Even though his wound was grevious he did play a little but soon layed his head down and closed his eyes.

Out of the corner of my eye I caught a moving shadow. Being this close to the village I knew it not be a orc. Turning I saw a small hin dressed in brown leafy robes and carried a staff. He greated me.

What have we hear? he asked me. I said I found him dying but can not save him. With a smile he started talking to me about all sorts of strange things about the world. I wasnt to interested but the depth of knowledge this man had distracted me from my wolf companion.

Well, Why don't you and your wolf friend walk with me for awhile, let me show you some things. I turned to him, Hin, I said. He's not in any condition to travel, this wolf is on deaths door.
What did you name him? he asked

Um, I really havnt, He's passing away.

Well then, why did you not ask me to heal him, I am off a high cirlce of the druids you know. With that he knelt down and placed his small hand on the wolfs wound. With a soft glowing green light, a twing of pain hit the wolf. Then the wound healed itself with out even much more then a few specs of blood remaining. He bounced up and licked both of us for a great long time. the hin was happier then a small child and a new toy.

Come with me, and please. whats his name?

I didnt know his name or what to name him, I looked at him and a nice name came to me. "Friendship" is his name.

Good, let us travel. Said the hin smiling. So we walked for more then just a few hours, but a few years. He knew I was a strong capable young man, but he wanted to teach me about the ways of nature and man, What the forrest, the river and lake, the mountain and valley meant to this world. And how to serve and protect both with equality. To do good to all creatures. Even show mercy to a black dragon, should I ever meet one.

One day, while overlooking Buldurs Gate from atop a mountain he asked me to kneel. So I did.

With staff he dubbed me Ranger Knight of the Wolf. And set me on my own path. For whatever reason he took notice of me. Few often did in my life. a young wild child, dirt covered youth who plays with sticks. But now my journey begins with this hins wise teachings. To adventure the sword coast. and to see this huge city.
