((In light of the recent loss of a community member, I am going to be holding off on progressing my current event series for a week or so to give those who were closest to our friend T some time to deal with it. I know that Angel's player specifically here was quite close with them and want to recognize and give some time there before we move forward too quickly as I know they had some things they wanted to accomplish in this.

If anyone has any concerns, or any smaller side stuff they want to accomplish in the mean time, please dont hesitate to reach out to me over the forums or on Discord. We will be picking up at a faster pace with this one near the end of the month.))

The Assassination (Faceless Killer plot)

Characters involved so far:

Aelrynn Valdrick
Jack Dimburrow
Szarilana Hezret
Hinzel
Sel (Left immediately after witnessing a small part )

Arrived later:

Gavin Arkalis
Maevyn Edgar

Short Write up of Events:

A man in white robes walked down the outer city, searching it seemed for something or someone. It was here that he was approached by the tiefling woman known as Szarilana. She curiously eyed the man in his loose fitting, white robes, and the two horns that stuck out from his brown hair. Another tiefling it seemed.

Szarilana being the helpful one offered a question "Are you lost?" The man responded, telling her a story of how he was intending to travel to the Friendly Arms Inn, but that he was no fighter and could not defend himself from the banditry and beasts that were common dangers on the journey though he did, it seems, have gold to hire a bodyguard.

Szarilana agreed to this, and they headed out toward the trade way. They passed through the outer city seemingly alone, little did the traveler know that flanking her in the shadows, was also Aelrynn Valdrick, curious it is assumed, on what was to transpire. Also...luckily for Szarilana it seems...

It was here that the man stopped on the road and Szarilana turned just in time to see him brandish a dagger from within his robe. "I have a message from the Lord of the Red Stones" before opening his robe, revealing intricate scars. He then proceeded to viciously attack his own body and as the man fell a summoning circle opened, the corpse falling away and vanishing.

From the circle, what appeared to be devils of multiple kinds began to climb from the summoning circle and launch an attack on Szarilana, clearly a targeted strike. Luckily for her, Aelrynn had been following not far behind. The two of them faught hard against the devils, with the man called Hinzel, joining into the fray shortly after. With only some moderate injuries they came out victorious, the trade way littered with the bodies of devils and the empty, tattered and bloody robes of the summoner himself.

It was here that the little knight, Jack Dimburrow showed up, and later the knight Gavin Arkalis and Maevyn Edgar. Together the group investigated the area for some time, tracking various clues and bits of information. Jak even took to drawing his best copy of the summoning circle, though it looked a little more like....something else, Jack's talents clearly not in the department of art. Gavin leaned into his own skills, using a scry on the robe to discovered even further information.

The bartender Sel, then arrived the words "Nope, don't want to know" passing his lips as he quickly moved through the area and on his way north down the tradeway.

From here, the group moved on, teleporting from the area to regroup in a safe space and discuss their findings.

Rewards given out:
XP, RP clue items.

Current Rumours:

Rumours are being spread around the city of Baldurs Gate common folk, that a tiefling woman with the vague description of Szarilana lured a man out into the tradeway and committed a vile act resulting in the mans death and what they described as an attempted summoning of her "devil kin friends". A disturbing rumour indeed

The Summoning (Faceless Killer plot)

Characters involved so far:

Declan Nash
Gaven Arkalis
Teris
Bolgar Harrin
Micar’Mizzrym Iliathor
Szarilana Hezret
Alexander Marshall

Short Write up of Events:

"Is it normal for all those folks to walk by toward the bridge?" Said Bolar to his fire-side companion Teris as they watched the 5th person walk by in the town of Greenest. "Perhaps they're just going to get drinks at the inn" Teris responded.

"What's that weird smog? Is that normal too?" Bolgar remarked as he watched a reddish hue fill the air. "No...." was his companions response. "Something is wrong..."

Teris was right, something was wrong. Across the bridge was the campers cave, a strange reddish glow beginning to creep forward from within it, the mild sound of quiet chanting catching their ears as the two of them walked toward it, a mixture of curiosity and fear on their minds. Stepping through the threshold of the caves entrance they were met with several people chanting in a circle, they appeared to be nothing more than unarmed peasants, four on the outside, on in the center, their leader a robed man on the outskirt speaking some sort of guttural tongue that neither Teris nor Bolgar recognized.

"Stop !" Said Teris as he saw the four people draw knives and stab the man in the center of the circle. Bolgar opened fire with his bow, striking down the unarmed preacher to the side in only a few bolts of his crossbow. They were two late though, as the remaining for in the circle turned the knives on themselves in some sort of ritual sacrifice. The reddish glow then coalesced into the formation of a portal, fire spewing forward as several winged creatures stepped outward. Frightened of course, Teris and Bolgar retreated to warn the town.

It was here under warning that the town watch gathered together into several groups, standing resolute at the entrance to the cave. "Stand fast, we must protect the town !" Said their captain as several of the portal-born creatures threw themselves out into the open from the cave. The men and women of the militia fighting back and managing to defeat this first assault, losing only a single casualty in the process. A solid victory as they braced themselves for potential further attacks.

Having been sent a signal from the others, the knight Alexander Marshal, Declan Nash, Micar’Mizzrym Iliathor and Gaven Arkalis arrived, better late than never. Shortly after, shadowed by the tiefling Szarilana.

By the time the forces had gathered though, the losses of the militia had become heavy, several eviscerated bodies littered the outside of the cave. "We need to go in, we need to put an end to this!" The captain shouted between heavy breaths of exhaustion. More and more, creatures began to slide from the cave, the fight was relentless. Eventually though, they pushed their way into the cave itself.

Within the cave lay many more of these things from another realm, it was Micar'Mizzrym here, with fast thinking, used a scroll of disjunction to collapse the portal, sealing off the entrance and trapping their leader and his minions on their side. Massive wings and fire spewed out as their strongest entered the fight, a slash here and a massive swing of a fist there, and more of the militia's lives were ended. It was a difficult fight here but the Militia, with the backup of their companions managed to defeat the last of the interlopers.

What did these people want? It is rather hard to speak to a corpse as they found, through investigation not much was left of those initial ones who opened the portal. Nothing but ash and bone and the corpses of over half a dozen militia members were all that remained.

Rewards given out:
XP, Clues, Random-Rolled chests

Current Rumours:

In Greenest, for some time the sights of the slaughter were plainly visible as the town cleaned up and buried their dead friends. Any who passed by during the first few days would have been able to see the remnants of a battle near the cave and the river that ran through the town.

Declan Nash was seen speaking to the populace as well as at the Citadel of the Watch. With him it was said he carried something foul in nature, though what? Only rumours. Some say a tooth, others said a foot, others a dead mans hand, those who spoke with him though, know he mentioned something to do with a devil.

Blood and Snow (The Cult/Faceless Killer)

Characters involved so far:

Zerros Osmir
Szarilana Hezret
Kali adh Omar
Oth
Kargos
Aether
Yuutsu Nezumi
(Probably forgetting a few names)

Short Write up of Events:

Snow, storms, and blood.

In two locations, once at the Friendly Arms Inn, and again, weeks later in the village of Soubar, snow fell from the sky, mixed with storming rains. From within this strange weather patches of blood fell from the sky. Why? The onlookers could only guess at. At each one though, they were quickly followed by a string of cult-like worshippers. Who are they? Well, those who met them would have had to let them live for long enough to ask, but in each case both Soubar and the Inn, they were killed on sight.

Some who were there managed to seek out some information, or pieces of clues that were left behind on the corpses of this cults followers. Every day they are left to grow in power is a day they post more and more danger to the coast.

Only those who were present at the two situation would truly know what transpired beyond the rumours that have been spreading. Truth or false, only they truly know.

Rewards given out:
XP, Clues, Random-Rolled chests

A particular ring to Zerros. (You'll have to find out from him what it is :P )

Current Rumours:

People around the Friendly Arms, and the locals of Soubar both speak of similar incidents of blood, snow, and rain falling from the sky, the most terrible and strange storm they collectively have ever encountered.

The people of Soubar witnessed a person by the description of Kali adh Omar murder a man in cold blood near the market stalls. Why? They are not sure, all the man seemed to do was walk through the gates before she struck them down with a spell. Murder is commonplace though in this village, so these whispers are rather tight knit.

Image
An unknown man, with plate armour, otherwise unarmed appeared in Soubar, however briefly after the cultist died, the mans death seemed to summon them as if a trigger. It was plain to see by all in the area. Glowing red eyes, black and red armour. He spoke a strange language before the man described as Aether attempted to attack him suddenly and without warning, the strange red-eyed man responded with a swipe of his hand, slashing Aethers throat and nearly even ending his life before disappearing again as soon as he had appeared.

The Ghastly Inn ( One-Off event )
Image

Characters involved so far:

Zerros Osmir
Szarilana Hezret
Karros Karrigan
Hinzel
Maarav Deinir

Short Write up of Events:
Darkness fell upon the friendly arms inn that night, storm clouds swirling overhead. A nighttime storm soaking the earth and the denizens conversing outside the walls. The rain slowly but surely producing a foggy mist about the area. It was then that Hinzel and Szarilana, near the outer wall could pick out a strange sound on the wind, was that a groan? Footsteps?

From the mist itself they stepeed, zombies, dozens of them heading from within the woods of Sharp Teeth it seemed. Though not particularly dangerous to the group, there sure were a lot of them. Wading through the corpses of the undead, one by one they grouped together and tor them down as they approached, pushing their way though into the woods themselves. It was here they came across multiple desecrated corpses, clearly others who had been travelling in the woods, or had been brought there for some unknown reason and died to the horde.

More and more as they walked, zombies, pouring from the south east, a streaming horde. The group pressed onward, wading through the unending march of the undead. Within the woods they found a woman, hiding in a small orcish camp, the orcs nowhere to be found, likely they were unable to survive the endless horde, she was hidden beneath the skinned animals, the awful smell of the skins masking her from the dull senses of the mindless undead until the group of adventurers came along and cleared the small camp.

They learned from this woman that she had no idea why she was here, or how she had come to end up in the woods of Sharp Teeth, she mentioned to them that the only woods she knew of near her home was the Lurkwood, and she'd never go there. She had never heard of the Sharp Teeth, or the Friendly Arms Inn nearby ! She said she was a serving woman at an inn called the Blue Star, on the road to the town of Nesme. The group had never heard of either of these places, how did she end up here? Were there more people like this, brought from...somewhere else? Through use of magic, the mage Maarav Deinir turned her invisible, and has his familiar lead the woman to safety back out of the woods and to the inn.

Further then, they walked, deeper into the woods, strangely, the sounds of jovial laughter, clinking glasses and the sounds of a tavern could be heard, even as more of the marching dead swarmed from the edges of the woods. What a strange sound, coming and going, as if a strange audible dream. What could lay deeper within ? They would fine out shortly as they crossed the threshold, pushing back the ranks of the dead.

It was here they saw it, deep and nestled in the woods, a tavern, surrounding by pooling blood, its windows and door seeping with ever-flowing red, its interior alight none the less as if the tavern were open for business. More and more ranks of undead poured from around the strange spectral building, it was almost as if the building itself were a ghost, pulled from somewhere else horrible and twisted. "W-w-welcome ! H-h-how can I help you?" a chittering undead man with red eyes stood before the door, several different undead surrounding him, vampiric guests, and shadowy servers and tavern bouncers, a mockery of the friendly and welcoming sounds assaulting their senses. What could this even be? All they knew, is they certainly weren't welcoming.

A harrowing fight between this powerful otherworldly innkeeper and his shadowy tavern patrons, resulting in serious injury to Zerros and deep wounds to several others, but eventually they were victorious, banishing the spectral innkeeper and their undead horde back to their respective graves.

The strange inn, now with its proprietor destroyed, seems to fade in and out of existence until finally, after some minutes it disappeared entirely. To where? Nobody present could tell, but the strange otherworldly threat within this stormy night had been dispatched.

Rewards given out:
XP, Random-Rolled chests

Current Rumours:

Some of the guards and regulars that visited the FAI discussed and were hearing rumours of many zombies being slain outside the walls. Complaints of "more adventurer nonsense" from the guards, and having to clean up the mess outside to avoid the bad smell.

(( An OOC Note here: If you cast hindsight in one of my events, since the PNP version requires an "hourglass shaped diamond" and in our server we dont have this, I will ask that the cost be a canary diamond. this will be all casts in my events going forward. After a discussion with other DM's about how difficult it is to DM around this spell from a narrative perspective, especially since folks can cast it from a scroll, I came to this conclusion to curb its constant over-use during events and its negative effect on narratives. Characters can also only cast the spell once per every real life hour. This is closer to its PNP version. Thanks for understanding.))

Murder of Brother Halvor (The Cult/Faceless Killer)

Image

Characters involved so far:

Szarilana Hezret
Karos Kerrigan
Yuutsu Nezumi
Sel
Maarav Deinir

Short Write up of Events:

A robed man headed from the Farmlands, through toward the Friendly Arms, making stops along the way, a prayer here and there for protection not just for himself but for other travelers. He was a fairly capable man, by farmer standards. He had learned how to defend himself, even with his simple wooden staff and a few magical spells he had learned through hard and long study. He had made this journey many times, hunting for meats, purchasing breads and picking berries. Anything edible for the ones who struggled to make due for themselves, and those who cannot make such dangerous journeys on this coastly road.

He was used to adventurers and their shenanigans, so it was not too much of a bother as he walked by the mage doing experiments that smelled of rotten fish, or the chatter of strange things he cared nothing for. He was a man with a goal, and he was too simple for such exploits. Not really the adventuring type.

It was beyond the Friendly Arms Inn that he was followed, someone...hidden in the shadows. The traveler unaware, hummed a tune and moved down the path, leaving a prayer stone and a soft prayer of protection at a tree here and there, just in case others along the path needed the protection of his lord, for he believed, above all else, that the Red Lord would guard him from these dangers as he looked to help his people back home in what meager ways he could.

It was here, on the tradeway almost toward Beregost that the individual jumped them from the shadows. What happened next, or any conversation had would be between the two of them, all that was left was the burned headless body, left to the birds and the animals. An unceremonious death for a man who thought he was doing the right thing, a simple man of simple means, just looking out for those back home.

Rewards given out:
XP, Clues, a loaf of bread

Current Rumours:

There was quite a mess on the tradeway, a travelling merchant noted coming from Beregost toward the Friendly Arms Inn, a corpse burned to a crisp in the middle of the road, its head cut off and set aside. Seemed like butchery to his untrained eye. They spoke of this sight over ales at the tavern, lamenting how bad things are getting on that route.

Around the outer city of Baldurs Gate, some of the local peasantry seem to be holding a vigil for someone who was lost, when asked they would mention that a pillar of their local farming community, a man by the name of Halvor Gardner has gone missing after setting out for Beregost, he has taken much longer than expected to return and his family has heard about the beheaded man near the area he was to be travelling, and has assumed the worst. From what the locals would say when asked, is that Halvor made these journeys often to gather bread, berries, locally hunted meats and other supplies in order to return and feed the poor and the hungry in both the Docks and the outer city.

I am running in a bit of an issue though in that it seems that when I am able to log on, which is 7pm PST or later during most week days, we are average about 4-7 people online. Just wanted to give a heads up here that for some reason the Forums dont load for me or dont work right about 50% of the time. So if you're sending me PM's sometimes I dont see them for a decent stretch of time. I apologize. ( This is the case even when I am using different PC's entirely )

To combat this, I dont mind if you reach out to me directly on discord, and I will record things DM side on my own end when possible and necessary. This should make things easier going forward.

My current availability is after 9PM PST due to my ever extending work.

The Kings Dice

After the event last night where people got to experience the dice game I created specifically for the event, I was asked for a more official layout of the rules for it so people could play it themselves in game, so I am writing rules here that will work without a DM arbiter.

What is The King's Dice?

The Kings Dice is a game of rolling dice, as well as intrigue, betrayal, and trust ! Will you band together to overthrow your king? Or will you stay loyal and fight for the cause? The choice is yours !

The game is best played with 6 to 8 people, but can be as low as 4 or 5, but its a little less exciting.

What do you need to play?

- 20 sided dice
-A table with at least one chair at the "head" of the table
- A "pool" of prizes, whether it is gold, items, gems, food, every player must pitch in at least one item. ( This becomes the Kings Hoard.)

How is the game played?

The first turn is everyone sits or stands at the table, with the head chair being open, this chair is the "Throne" for the king. Everyone rolls their first 20 sided dice, the person with the highest number becomes the first "King". The first king gains the first point of the game, they receive 1 point for winning the first roll. This only happens on the first turn of the game, since there is no "king" on the first round yet. This is not repeated every round.

The game is then played for a standard 8 rounds, each round, everyone clockwise from the king ( Who also rolls every round.) rolls their d20.

After the rolls are done, again, going clockwise from the king, each player decides what they wish to do, they have a few choices on how to allot their dice roll number. This is where intrigue and trust plays its role in the game. Players can make one of any of these choices after rolling their dice.

- They can give their roll to the current king who sits on the "throne"
- They can keep their dice roll number for themselves
- They can give their dice roll to someone else at the table, whom ever they wish, perhaps creating a rebellion.

Players can only choose one of these choices. All dice rolls are added together into a single number for each person, and the person with the highest number "Wins" the round. If the King remains with the highest number, they stay on the throne and score a single point for the round.

If however, players have given enough of their dice to a single player, and that players dice score now exceeds the kings, they become the NEW king, and move to the throne, and the former king moves back to sit at the table again. This new king scores their first point. The round then ends and all dice are cleared to 0, and a new round begins and the process above repeats for 8 rounds.

What happens when you roll a 20?

If a player rolls a 20, this triggers an assassination. The player with the 20 roll, can decide immediately whether they wish to be king or not. They can "assassinate" the current king and take his place, without having any other players pitching in any other dice roll. If the player who rolled the 20 does not wish to be king, they can "assassinate" for someone else, and place them on the throne instead, this is their decision to make, and theirs alone. If they do not want to do either of these actions, they can give their 20 to the king which works as a normal 20 points and adds to the kings roll as if it were a normal dice roll, the "king" cannot assassinate to remain on the throne. If the king rolls a 20, it is considered as if it is a normal dice roll and counted as 20.

If more than one person rolls a 20, they must each roll again to break the tie, and the highest roll between them gains the assassination, the loser keeps the new roll score.

How does the game end?

The game ends after 8 rounds. The person with the most "points" becomes the overall King of the "land". Each point is granted for each round a player remains king. Sitting on the throne is the only way a player can score points. If 8 rounds are done, and there is more than one person "tied", bonus rounds can be played until one person has at least 1 point above the remaining players.

At the end of the game, the "King" who won and has the most points, gains control of the "hoard" which is all the prizes. The king then gets to decide how these prizes are given out, and who receives them. They can also give all the prizes to themselves if they wish. This is where the trust comes into play, if you can prop up the "king" who you trust the most, then perhaps your loyalty will be rewarded by the king, but if you manage to make a greedy king, or an untrustworthy one well....perhaps you gain nothing at all ! Prizes are under the control of the king, and how friendly or unfriendly they wish to be. So be careful who you side with !

There we have it, the rules for The King's Dice ! From game event. Enjoy :D

Skittering Salesman

Image

Characters involved so far:

Yuutsu Nezumi
Hanner Blackrose
Zenk Zooper
Serzeil Linwood

Short Write up of Events:

Skittering about Soubar are seemingly more and more of these wererats. Moving in the crooks and corners of walls and bushes, they disappear and re-appear without trace. Sneaky and shadowy. It was noticed by several of Soubars denizens that they had been particularly active around one of the houses and a part of the wall and decided to investigate further.

Try as they might though, none could figure out what they were up to, none were keen enough of eye, or adept in the languages of the animal to understand the conversations they spied, nor spot what was being done. A failure in skill to be sure.

As time went on a few approached the wererat merchant and made a few purchases for gold and trade. Though it is unsure if any of the items were of particular note, other than the cornucopia of horrible scents.

Rewards given out:
XP, Food, A Disgusting Stick

Current Rumours (Soubar):

The masked man known as Hanner Blackrose has a peculiar smell about him. It has been noticed by a few that he keeps drinking something from time to time that smells rather questionable.

Serziel seems to have made purchase of an "enchanted" stick from the wererats. The local merchants are of the opinion though that he was tricked. Only Serziel truly knows the secrets of the item they hold.

Return to “Dungeon Master Realms”
