After they returned from Rockrun, the halfblood could be seen continuing to follow the conjurer known as Enakid into the School of Mages. After receiving a brief tour of the school, she would begin to spend a considerable amount of time in the library, slowly but stubbornly trying to read through a few of the simpler books on magic and magic-adjacent subjects.

On the completion of Selmiyeritar's trade fair up in Undrek Naudal, representatives of the house could be seen working more intensely to hire all sorts of staff, many of them intended to remain at the outpost on a more permanent basis: Craftsmen, masons, engineers, architects, farmers, guards - anyone who is able and willing to contribute to Naudal's security, expansion, or long-term prosperity, and whatever equipment and materials are needed to enable that contribution.

They seem to offer fairly generous terms, including both a bonus for signing on and an escort into the Upperdark. Despite rumors that many of their auctioned items were ultimately pawned off to the duergar embassy, they seem to be doing well enough financially.

Additionally, although they have already been doing some recruiting on the fly, they are for the first time making a point of announcing that the house is looking for skilled adventurers, or those who could someday see themselves as such. Although their offer is, on paper, less generous than the payment they're offering to the workers, it could be argued that room and board at their estate, and membership in a house, can have a value far greater than a mere handful of gold...

In addition to their ongoing recruitment and hiring efforts, Selmiyeritar's messengers now start letting hints slip of an upcoming tournament in Naudal sometime this turning, though they keep the details to themselves for the moment...

"In a world without sunlight,

beholds a grand city many don't dare to see.
And if someone did, they had better have a bloody good reason."

Residence and merchants alike, would have something new to gossip about. A dusky skin rivvil with a pair of pearls for earings and a swashbucklers hat and fine coat casually walked the busy market square in the city of Sshamath. They would say the jaluk had gone around browsing the many wares and asking the whereabouts for a bartender that works out of the a place called the Entreris. Perhaps directions would have been given to the man, but after being satisfied in conducting his business, he headed else where in the direction of the Spiders Kiss.

Image

Patrons within the fest hall and even the bartender that worked within, would have mention of a rivvil fitting the same description purchase a tankard of plan ale, and took closest to what he had thought was a patron. After some conversations and even a dance, the man finished his drink and proceeded to the rear door. Patrons and the bartender of the Spider Kiss might have mention the rivvil left after a cycle and paid for service with a devilish grin.

A foul display of senseless violence - one may say - was left laying on the middle of a street in Sshamath for the city keepers to clean up later:
a row of freshly killed lamb carcasses, neatly arranged in the shape of a crescent moon. Each and all of the bodies were accompanied by a line of elegantly curved characters painted on the ground with blood.

Image

Those daring and curious enough to look at the characters, may likely realize:
Hidden: show
the lines were written in elven.

And if the individual was well versed in the geography of the upper lands:
Hidden: show
he or she would know that each of those lines are names of elven settlements that are or was located somewhere on the far east.

In one of the less frequently used classrooms of the School of Mages, a goblin head stitched on a body of a kobold was left laying on top of a table.
On the chalk board, a huge but unfinished magic circle stands, the runes around smudged and messy, as if they were wiped then redrawn again and again.

Rumors of Gloura's Wings

Unread post by paragon_nemesis »

"Well here I am at the suggestion of me mate Sel. Told me it'd be a good idea to try bartendin' like himself. The infamous Gloura's Wings in all of it's glory! A lot of memories here before I even start eh?"

Image

"These new renovations are exactly what the place needed. Now we just need to draw in some more customers. I frequent the surface enough I can help acquire importing some new drink selections if I work with Sel perhaps. We have about everything we need down here. Even have a new gambling section."

Image

"We have an entertainment section, private rooms for private dancers, meeting rooms, VIP rooms. We're a small festhall, but we have a little bit 'o it all."

Image

"Come one, come all and visit Gloura's! Where you pick your poison and play and get to do just that while you say. Just outside is access to a bulletin board full of odd jobs and tasks available for budding adventurers, or some for the seasoned as well. So drop on by, don't be shy. Try a piece of Pello's pie. A great chef that cooks great meals!"

Image

"If ye want to wet your whistle on some surface delicacies, then we have a large selection on tap! We can also request anything we don't have if ye plan on bein' in the area long enough. Remember: Gloura's wings is not held responsible for any theft/injury, or accidental deaths that may occur within Gloura's, or within the city. Some restrictions apply, results may vary."

On the message board outside the Glouras' there is a new poster: SURFACE RAID SIGN UP ROSTER

The surfacers have more wealth than brains. It has made them fat, lazy and weak. Let us help them help themselves!
We wallow away slowly perishing and fading from the records of history left to become mere shadows of our true potential.
Let us relieve the surfacers of their burden of riches and at the same time, earn some glory, finding out own backbones.
It is time for some old fashioned SURFACE RAIDS!
Positions are filling up fast but there is still room. If you are brave enough, then you are welcome to join.
And for you cowards too weak to sign up, then may the Spider Queen find you to be a pleasant play thing!

A heavily scarred young half-drow comes across the poster on one of her excursions from the School of Mages. For a long time, she looks at it helplessly, as though she wanted to do something that she either couldn't or didn't dare attempt. Eventually, though, she gathers her courage and scribbles a single word on the signup sheet before wandering off, a newfound determination in her stance:

Aeryn.

In the cycles since signing up for Malodia's expedition, the half-drow known as Aeryn has started venturing more frequently into the tunnels surrounding the city. Apparently no longer content with simply continuing her studies of the Art, the young halfblood bears all her numerous arms and armor on each excursion, undoubtedly intent upon using each of them in the cycles to come.

The former surface dweller has made no great secret of her desire to master teleportation so that she may travel between her former home and Sshamath. So why the sudden change of heart? Is it money? Recognition by the Sshamathan drow? Does she hope to steal something to help her studies? Or does she have an agenda of her own...?

The Dark Minstrel, Malodia could be seen approaching the Beholder Merchant Xaxxarorgaxith at its stall in Sshamath. She pays a small fortune for a sizable stack of teleportation scrolls. All the eyes on the Beholder look upon Malodia, with significant curiosity.

"Tut tut tut - drow stuff; you wouldn't be interested." was her only reply, before tipping her wide brimmed hat, and heading towards the cities main Gate.

Malodia, The Dark Minstrel of House Sshamath, draws quite a bit of attention to herself while she zig-zags around The City of Dark Weaving, putting up flyers, posting on billboards and going to all the highly respected Schools of Magic. It seems she is in need of the services of a skilled wizard or even a sorcerer.

The postings Read:
Greetings!
Surely, in all of this mage city there must be one stand alone magic user of capable and competant skill that is willing to embark on an adventure that will test said skills and fill their coin purse in the process.
Certainly the reputation of the supreme abilities the mages of The City of Dark Weavings is more than just talk.
Any interested candidates should reach out to Malodia of House Sshamath

On the night of the 6th of Marpenoth 1360, a drow priestess was seen escorting a sizable group of strangers into S'shamath. Whilst hiding their semblances with robes and dark plate, they all appeared far too tall to to be drows themselves, and spoke in the common tongue of the surface.

Image

The foreigners maintained a cordial demeanor throughout their visit, walking through the Bazaar and making a rather long stop at the Spider's Kiss. From what little could be gathered by their words, their interests were focused on commerce.
