A halfling waif, no stranger to the streets of the gate, particularly the docks, Rory was exactly what one would expect. Always underfoot, always in the way, swiping whatever was discarded to add to his collection of baubles and to his attire. Truly he looked ridiculous, a golem of the docks, cobbled together in clothing discarded by others. His repurposed boots were so tall he could barely bend his knees when he scampered, obviously meant for someone twice his height. Constantly battling the tricorn hat, too large by half and frequently covering his eyes, he would peer out beneath one side or other in wonder at the large ships coming in.

Underfed and tiny, he was of little use to the rugged dockyard workers. Occasionally he'd nab a copper or two running an errand or carrying a message but mostly...he starved. Curled up in his overstuffed coat he battled a foe that few heroes know of. The beast called hunger. It was a cruel mistress gnawing, growling, twisting, and ravaging his innards. Sure he could go home, but there was probably no food there. What money his da made fed a different monster. One of addiction and pain and sorrow. No, home was a last resort only dared out of absolute necessity. Doubtful his da would be there long anyway. He'd do anything for the new substances frequenting the lower city. Nay, home was not an option, he thought resolutely.

Eventually though, hunger overpowered will and he found himself stomping towards his da's shack. As he approached though he saw something strange. His da was being ushered out the door, moving like usual, in a drug induced fog. Rory did his best to melt into the shadows, cursing his rumbling stomach sounding like waves crashing to his ears in the quiet of the evening. Whoever was leading his da turned, looked right at him, and drew him over with a single finger. Without a word the figure led them slowly and quietly through the city streets toward Heapside and the Ilmateri temple. The figure left without a word, discharging them into the care of the servants of the Broken God.
