Rumors of Mist Lake

An influx of Bregan D'aerthe mercenaries have arrived at Mist Lake with their supplies being hauled in by a large number of rothe. The mercenaries can be seen departing in small patrols from the comforts of the lake and into the Myconid Circles on a frequent basis.

An influx of Bregan D'aerthe mercenaries have arrived at Mist Lake with their supplies being hauled in by a large number of rothe. The mercenaries can be seen departing in small patrols from the comforts of the lake and into the Myconid Circles on a frequent basis.

Although most of the battle-specific preparations and supplies have been sent back to the mercenary compound near Sshamath, many of Bregan's agents continue to linger in Mist Lake. In a more relaxed state, the Ilareth can be seen walking the lake with a small contingent of Duergar craftsmen and engineers discussing various aspects of structural integrity and design.

The corpse of a female hin would be seen tied to the rocks near the forgotten caverns. Its face, untouched save for a few ritualistic runes carved into the cheeks. The rest of her body, however, told a different story. Her skin had been meticulously flayed, exposing the raw, glistening muscle beneath. Sharp, thin black spikes were cruelly inserted into her limbs, each one placed with deliberate precision. Blood pooled around the base of the rocks, darkening the ground and filling the air with the metallic scent of death.

A female drowess in a skin-tight leather outfit would be seen leaving the area, her movements smooth and predatory. Her long, white hair cascaded over her shoulders, a stark contrast to the shadows around her. A sly, triumphant smile played on her lips as she licked her dagger, the blade still dripping with the victim’s blood.

The conclave soldiers can be seen running to strategic positions as scouts pour intern the deep cave systems. Something was amiss. What was reported tendays ago as the sounds of rhythmic tapping has become a orchestra of rumbling explosions. A visitor has reached Mist Lake. While many of the scouts come back empty handed, few of them return.

A dark figure, cloaked in magical shadows and faintly scented with the metallic tang of blood, would question the scouts about the events that had transpired.

Upon receiving reports of the atypical seismic activity in Mist Lake, the Ilareth of Bregan D’aerthe would dispatch a number of cadenced scouting parties into the Myconid Circles and Wilds. Their primary orders being to search for evidence of Thralls and Myconid activity that would not be considered native to the region.

After a brief and thorough investigation, the rumbling have stopped over the Mist lake. Reports and rumors alike confirm a dwarven presence that was making its way towards the city. Since then all traces of the dwarves have disappeared under collapsed mines and what seems to be a retreat. The cycles go by for the tenday, but no further explosions could be heard over the lake. The presence seems to be gone for now.

Two hooded individuals could be seen coming from the Ruins of Oghrann and directly into the Bregan D'aerthe compound at Mist Lake. It would seem obvious to any bystanders around the lake that their intent was to report on something that they had seen in the ruins. There would likely be chatter amongst the vendors that they overheard a number of mercenaries discussing duergar supplies and unusual statues.

Bregan regulars poring over maps and coded missives, their fingers tracing over the lines and sigils as they debated potential targets and routes.

The 8th Cycle of the 6th Turning

A mysterious traveler, a female adorned in purple, is said to have visited Mist Lake and was engaged in some form of negotiation with denizens of the outpost.

A number of Bregan D'aerthe mercenaries were seen traveling towards Sshamath during the early hours of the 20th Cycle of the 7th Turning. Upon their return to Mist Lake, they would be noticed carrying a large crate into their compound with a great deal of delicacy and care. Oddly, the typical mercenary presence at the lake would be absent for several hours thereafter.

In the late hours of the cycle, roughly a half dozen mercenaries with the insignia of Bregan D’aerthe adorned on their cloaks move with quiet efficiency as they prepare a substantial number of crates within the inner garrison. The crates, organized by their contents such as preserved foods, bandages, an assortment of scrolls and potions, whetstones, weapons, and ammunition, to name a few, wait to have their contents inspected by a quartermaster who compares their inventories against a detailed parchment held in his hand. Once satisfied, the quartermaster gives a wave of his hand for the crate to be taken to the armory.

Two males stand atop a banister that overlooks the gathering of supplies. Their conversation seems to be primarily casual with intermittent periods of seriousness when approached periodically by the quartermaster. After a number of hours, the two descend from their perch to enter the compound along with the rest of their company.
