Narlhelm: Welcome to the Duchal Court. Those formally of the court have one speaking representative and one with solely the honor of participating as a court member. The speakers each have one topic that can be raised and nothing additional. If the Grand Dukes wish feedback on the topics raised by each speaker, they will state so, otherwise, do not speak or interject. Are any present here of the formal court that have less time today? We may offer the privilege of speaking earlier in the order if so. Raise your hand if so now. Anyone? If that changes in the occasion, you may approach me with a note later on. We will attempt to accomodate.

Lord Aaron Lyonaler raises his hand.

Narlhelm: Lord Aaron. Noted, luckily for you as a Lord of the Court, you were early in the order anyways. Beginning then with the nobles of this court. Lord Aaron, given your pressure for time, you may speak first. And we will proceed to your left from there.

Grand Duke Eltan: Go ahead, Lord Aaron.

Lord Aaron Lyonaler: Thank you. I wished to bring up the matter of the Undead in the sewers. The Radiant Heart have performed a couple of patrols of the sewers, since hearing word of the danger. Many of the undead have been cleared out, but more and more seem to replace them. I wanted to ask what the Flaming Fist may have discovered that might be spoken of in open court? As well as how the Order, and others with the city's health in mind, might aid in this? If it might please the Court more so, perhaps a Security Council could be called?

Grand Duke Eltan: Lord Aaron, thank you for your service as always and your concern for what is below the city as threat. For the most updated security reports, Generals Moruene and Scar, anything?

Lady General Moruene: Nothing beyond what we've briefed you on, Eltan.

Grand Duke Eltan: Very well. I can just say that the situation is serious and requires some confidentiality for now. I would write Flaming Fist HQ with your specific inquiries on the matter.

Lord Aaron Lyonaler: Very good, Your Grace. Thank you.

Narlhelm: Next then I believe is Lord Dippledop.

Lord Fluazifop Dippledop: Oh yes! I just wanted to say that the Lantan Research Initiative is going great and we have many inventions ahead that hopefully won't destroy the world! That's all! Have a great day Court Friends!

Grand Duke Belt: Solid briefly, Fluaz.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: I see.

Narlhelm: Next is Steward Nathan I believe.

A sergeant of the Flaming Fist approaches Lord Dippledop inviting him not to speak out of turn.

Steward Nathan Goldenmane: Your Graces. I have nothing to bring to court today.

Grand Duke Belt: You cannot silence Dips!

Grand Duke Eltan: We'll see, Belt.

Narlhelm: Next in order. Lord Wandersoul. Speak.

Lord Fenix Wandersoul: Your Graces, I have nothing to speak on at the moment.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Dippledop got to speak, Belt, like everyone else.

General Scar: By Tempus, my prayers are answered. A silent court.

Narlhelm: NEXT Sirion. Speak.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: It must mean we are doing something right, at least.

Grand Duke Belt: You mean a boring court! I love all the words!

Arcanist Sirion Te'dwa: Thank you. Work continues to be about to begin on the Mystran temple's duelling chamber. If and when it is complete, we will pester your graces with an invitation to its opening. Otherwise we have nothing.

Grand Duke Belt: Proceed!

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Thank you for the notification, Sirion. Liia, anything to add?

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: I should like to attend the opening. I must see at the time if it fits with my schedule.

Narlhelm: Proceeding then... Alyssia, you are next.

High Lady Alyssia Leonhart I simply wish to confirm there is a Black Dragon targeting the city, and the individual that they attempted to coerce into acting against the city, has no wishes to, and is safely within the Halls, protected daily from mind and scrying attempts. There are others whom are joining the struggle to prevent any harm from coming to the city, and allies of the Metallics are working towards organizing against it and driving the Black from the city. Further details will be provided in a report to the security council.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: We've been informed of the black dragon known as 'Vuthair', and the fact that he seeks to poison our waters. We are keeping an eye on it, and so far no poisoning has happened. Please, if you encounter this black dragon, be extremely careful. My sources say he is not only powerful, but exceedingly clever. Thank you for bringing it up, Alyssia. Let us carry on.

Madam Netanya d’Abdelledion’dy’Quellium: Thank you Your Graces, it is an honor to be represented here as Matron of House Divine. On behalf of the House I wish to publically extend our thanks to the Ducal Authorities, as well as the Halls of Inner Light, for granting us the land parcel in the Palace to District to erect our Estate. We hope to continue foster trade and commerce within the Ducal Realm. However the topic I wish to discuss concerns the Polvich threat. An alliance of Guilds to include representatives for House Divine, Phoenix Company, Candlekeep, and the Temple of Torm undertook an admittedly risky operation to discern if an artifact in our possession was indeed a phylactery belonging to the lich Polvich. The operation confirmed the artifact was indeed Polvich’s current phylactery and I directed the artifact’s destruction. If the rumors that have recently emanated from the Upperdark are true that Polvich was defeated then the destruction of his phylactery should seal his fate and vanquish the threat he has posed. Also Your Graces should expect a formal invitation the House Divine Everwinter Estate when it formally opens its doors. Least Your Graces have any further inquiries about the Polvich threat, I respectfully yield my time. Thank You.

Grand Duke Eltan: Where exactly is Polvich located at this time? I recalled this was more of a threat in the south?

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: How certain are you that the threat is passed from this lich?

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: The invitation is noted, thank you, Netanya.

Madam Netanya d’Abdelledion’dy’Quellium: I don't claim to know Polvich's current location, only rumors that he was defeated and that is "essence" is currently looking for a phylactery that no longer exist.

Grand Duke Eltan: I see. If there is a tangible threat to Baldur's Gate, do inform the Flaming FIst.

Madam Netanya d’Abdelledion’dy’Quellium: I'm 99% certain, Your Graces, because according to the experts I have conferred with about the matter.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: If it is possible that your alliance of organisations can confirm the threat is dealt with, please let us know.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: That could include threat to the trade lanes to the city as well of course.

Grand Duke Belt: Seems like a problem that adventures are best to solve though!

Madam Netanya d’Abdelledion’dy’Quellium: I shall Your Grace.

Grand Duke Belt: Adventurers are the solution to most matters. I know though Eltan, you didn't like my proposal to disband the city watch and just have adventurers run the town's law enforcement.

Grand Duke Eltan: Let's not get into that again.

Lord Fluazifop Dippledop: I thought it was brilliant, Belt! I love your ideas.

Lord Dippledop is called to order by the Sergeant of the Flaming Fist.

Grand Duke Eltan: Alright then, I think it's time to move on.

Madam Netanya d’Abdelledion’dy’Quellium: Thank you Your Graces.

Narlhelm: Next, we have the Phoenix Company. Please speak.

Administrator Gwyneth'tia Starshine: your Graces, the Phoenix Company have nothing to bring up to the court.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Thank you. Phoenix Company.

General Scar: You're growing on me Phoenix Company. Next time let's only invite the delegations that have nothing to say, Eltan.

Grand Duke Eltan: As long as you're still ordered to attend, General.

Narlhelm: NEXT! The Temple of the Shield. Of HELM.

Captain Sinoc Haven: My Graces, we have the Security Council and the Flaming Fist, that's excellent. But I would like to know if there is another way to make the lands safer. In fact, I think that we would, I mean the Houses of Badlur's Gate, for instance, be better by better coordinating our actions, like at the Cloakwood issue. What would you think of this, my Graces?

Grand Duke Eltan: Thank you for bringing that up, Watchknight. As a matter of fact, Scar and I have recently discussed doing a bit of recruitment for the Flaming Fist. These recruits will be otherwise unaffiliated, of course, to ensure integrity. Despite Scar's protestations, we're also looking into recruiting from the adventurers on the Sword Coast. I want to note that this is something still in discussion, and that any who apply for this will be expected to act according to a quite strict code of conduct.

Grand Duke Belt: Yeah, that was my idea.

Grand Duke Eltan: We'll be announcing this if - and when - this happens. And yes, I suppose Belt was involved a bit too...

Captain Sinoc Haven: Thank you, my Graces.

Lord Aaron Lyonaler: I must excuse myself, Your Graces. Thank you for your time today.

Grand Duke Eltan: Thank you, Sinoc.

Narlhelm: Next, is Doron Amar.

Councilor Alarielle Nulei'ren: Doron Amar has nothing to raise this session.

General Scar: Always loyal allies to the Gate. Thank you silent Elves.

Narlhelm: Next.

Scribe Edelgarde Spades: Your Graces, as Madam Netanya already covered Polvich's topic, I wish to add that should Your Graces need a detailed report on Polvich's threat, Candlekeep is able to share the dedicated records. That is all I wish to bring to the attention of the Court.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: I would appreciate one, Scribe, if you would be so kind.

Scribe Edelgarde Spades: I shall have a copy delivered together with the usual minutes of the Court for proof reading.

Grand Duke Eltan: Understood. Thank you.

Emissary From Kraak Helzak: Kraak Helzak has rebuilt from the recent war with Trolls in the Troll Claws. The King wishes to extend his appreciation for all those which helped in the battles. We have expanded our kingdom since, not in small thanks to Bhor Stonecutter- a loyal and honorable kinsman. Kraak Helzak also wishes to let it known that our troops are stronger, hardier and we now have a gryphon cavalry at our disposal.

Grand Duke Eltan: Now that is a sight to see I bet. Thank you, Kraak Helzak. We are grateful for your renewed alliance.

Narlhelm: Next. The delegate of the High Rider Lord Dhelt of Elturel.

Emissary From Elturel: Elturel continues to war with those in the very company of this court. And will highlight again how incompatible we see this with the values of the Lords' Alliance. Whether in this city or Mirabar. But this will not cease our vigilance and resolve to push back the Zhentarim evil from the Western Heartlands for good. Helm willing, see this Dreadlord fleeing in front of his cape back over the Sunset Mountains. That is all. Grand Dukes.

Grand Duke Eltan: Noted. Strong words from Elturel then today. We will take them into advisement.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Noting all factors involved, but yes.

Grand Duke Belt: Makes me want to ask what friends of the tavern think about this one next time I do my tavern runs.

Narlhelm: Next. Unless the Grand Dukes have further reaction? Next, the delegate from Scornubel.

Lord High Advisor Burdan Hlathiman: Thank you, your graces. I am Lord High Advisor Burdan Hlathiman, in service to Lady Ambermantle. First, allow me to echo the words of the emissary of Elturel. The Zhentarim's encroachment upon the Western Heartlands and Sword Coast must be opposed, as is the purpose of our alliance. Grand Duchess Liia, while I have your attention, I request a private audience with you after this court to discuss something Lady Ambermantle wanted me to bring to you.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Very well, Lord Hlathiman. Lets speak after this court.

Lord High Advisor Burdan Hlathiman: Thank you, your grace.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Now then. If no other allies wish to speak, we have an honored guest of Thay today I wish to announce.

Narlhelm: One more before, Grand Duke Entar. Iriaebor, go ahead.

Emissary From Iriaebor: I speak in the name of Lord Bron of Iriaebor, the city of Hundred Spires, and I want to echo the words of Elturel and Scornubel. Lord Bron looks upon the developments in the Sword Coast, carefully, and wants to remind that Zhentarim were the cause behind our civil war and our previous lords deaths. It was not without GREAT struggles that we have managed to free ourselves from their grasp, but we still feel the aftermath of their devious ploys. A city in chaos is all that these vermin bring! That is all.

Emissary From Amn: Northern actors.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Thank you for your presentation. We will take that into advisement. I now would like to announce honored guest from Thay. Normally, we have only delegation of the local Enclave here of Thay, led by the Khazark Anishtep. They are present today, but in addition, we have THE man who has built the Enclave Initiative for Thay in the west and one, though we differ in many respects, who has earned my respect as a businessman of great note. I announce today with this court, Samas Kul, Master of The Guild of Foreign Trade of Thay, and of the School of Transmutation in Thay. Master Kul, please speak at your leisure. Welcome to our Court.

Master of The Guild of Foreign Trade Samas Kul: Thank you, Grand Duke Entar. Your graces, honourable lords and ladies of Baldur's Gate, delegates from other realms. I come here today on behalf of Their Omnipotences, the Council of Zulkirs.

Emissary From Amn: He has a nice robe, I'll give him that.

Emissary From Calimshan: Big compliment from an Athkatlan.

Emissary From Amn: Platinum.

Master of The Guild of Foreign Trade Samas Kul: Some years ago, former Khazark Kahanak Habdilof made many missteps that harmed our relations, and the reputation of our Enclave severely. To that end, the Council of Zuklirs wishes me to express their deep regret at not having addressed this properly sooner. The nation of Thay wish to offer this official apology for the actions of our former Khazark, and to publically denounce Habdilof as a traitor to our nation. We especially wish to express our apology to the Grand Dukes themselves and the temple of Ilmater, who became a particular target for Habdilof's actions. To this end, His Omnipotence Szass Tam has sent along with me a donation to be made to the temple. Thank you, your graces, my lords and ladies, for your attention.

Grand Duke Belt: Hah! Good! I must say, I have been keeping an eye on Kahanak's do's and dont's for a while- receiving many letters and messages about his villainy. I must say, I am very happy to see this and receive the gift from Thay! This speaks well for our future deals. I hope such matters won't happen again, though. After all, I do care about the safety and happiness of our people!

Lord Fluazifop Dippledop: The People's Duke as always!

Grand Duke Belt: Yeah!

Master of The Guild of Foreign Trade Samas Kul: Their Omnipotences have the utmost faith in our current Khazark Anishtep, Grand Duke Belt.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Thank you for this.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Yes. This speaks well for our continuous relationship with Thay. The services provided have, so far, been invaluable- but the reputational damage had us consider quite some severe restrictions. I am glad to hear Thay is not blind to their subordinates' incompetence and, some would say, madness. I hope the trade will flow as it originally did- undisturbed and profitably. Should it be so- we may even consider further trade arrangements.

Master of The Guild of Foreign Trade Samas Kul: Khazark Anishtep may perhaps speak more on behalf of this enclave's current goals for trade. Thank you again, for hearing my announcement.

Grand Duke Eltan: Yes. We appreciate the setting of this straight. We want to see more common security with our treaty with Thay and less disasters.

Narlhelm: In final. Two more speakers. Unless the Enclave wishes to add anything.

Khazark Soni'vaphra Anishtep: Grand Dukes, Grand Duchess, lords and ladies, I am thrilled to return the Thayan Enclave to its rightful place after such mismanagement. Our trade goes extremely well, and we can discuss more later, at your convenience.

Narlhelm: One final then.

Emissary From Amn: Good business. Amn has nothing to add today.

Narlhelm: Dreadlord of Darkhold. The Zhentarim. You are next and final.

General Scar: Final is a beautiful word in peacetime.

Lady General Moruene: Sometimes war too, Scar, if you're winning.

Dreadlord Selengil Harkonis Your Graces. Despite the Bloodthirst and dramatics of some in this court. I come to speak only of trade. During the last session held here, increased tariffs was offered and accepted by yourselves. While we have found alternative shipping for most goods and seen much coin into the coffers of the city. Some unfortunately were still waylaid by those now boasting of it as a matter of public record. Put simply, cargo manifests along with helpful notations of the profits your graces would have been entitled to will be provided to you after this court has closed. There is nothing further other than continued assurances that the alternate shipping will be brought into full effect should the situation of hostility continue.

Emissary From Amn: Not a fan of the Network, but well played.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Very well Dreadlord, we will review these summaries of cost.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Pardon, Lord Harkonis. Clarify if you will what you mean by 'alternative shipping'.

Dreadlord Selengil Harkonis: I am not at liberty to say your grace... Given that there are those who submitted it to public record, warring on us. As the manifests provided to you will also confirm. Suffice to say we have alternate means bringing our goods into the city. All legally speaking and tarifs paid in full on arrival.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: In that case, may I ask you to send us a written clarification after this court?

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Hmm I see. You may direct such matters to me if you wish, Lord Selengil, and I will share them with my colleagues.

Dreadlord Selengil Harkonis: I would most certainly and happily do so if a non disclosure agreement is signed and released. Given the outright boasting of war in this court.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: As Entar says.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Send us your terms and we will appropriately discuss it.

Dreadlord Selengil Harkonis: Of course your grace.

Narlhelm: That concludes today's court.

Liia Jannath: Welcome everyone, to this court session. I want to start by extending an special welcome to two very important guests here this day: Lady Alustriel Silverhand of Silverymoon and High Lady Cylyria Dragonbreast of Berdusk. You are both very, very welcome. Before we start taking questions, we would like to start by addressing something we understand is on many people's minds. As many of you probably saw or heard that my colleagues and I recently visited Waterdeep. We cannot yet say anything about the conversations we had there, but I can promise each and every one of you that the talks were good, but only initial and there will be more talks soon.

Narlhelm: Today we will go in the opposite order of what we usually do. Therefore we ask Lord Selengil of Darkhold to come forth and speak first if he has anything to speak of in this court.

Selengil Harkonis: I have no topic to raise at this time. Only assurances that our treaty goes well and the promised goods already making their way into the city. Also I would request to offer response at any challenges. We do know how animated this court can get. Your Graces.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you Lord Harkonis. The treaty goes as it stands. We foresee no interruption.

Narlhelm: If that is all from Lord Selengil, we shall move on to the Thayan Enclave.

Red Wizard Representative: Noble graces. We are currently awaiting the arrival of our new Khazark, but trade goes well. Nothing else to speak of from the Thayan Enclave.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you, Enclave.

Narlhelm: And then we move on to the Green Enclave.

Belt: Green Enclave?

Narlhelm: Druids, your Grace.

Belt: Where are they?

Emmanuel Venandi: I have nothing at this time.

Belt: Thank you Green Enclave. May I say. What a marvelous attire.

Emmanuel Venandi: Thank you, Your Grace.

Narlhelm: Emissary from Waterdeep, please.

Maesold Dundryn Thank you, your Graces. Waterdeep as you know remains disappointed in this new trade agreement with the Zhentarim, and maintains you should have depended on the Lord's Alliance. We look forward to hearing more in the future about the talks you had and will have in Waterdeep.

Liia Jannath: Thank you, saer Dundryn.

Narlhelm: High Lady Cylyria Dragonbreast of Berdusk.

Cylyria Dragonbreast: Berdusk stands with the Lord's Alliance in this matter.

Liia Jannath: Thank you, High Lady Cylyria. The Lord's Alliance must remain strong and we hope our conversations as they move on will strengthen it.

Narlhelm: Lady Alustriel Silverhand of Silverymoon.

Alustriel Silverhand Thank you for the good time we had in Waterdeep this last tenday, my friends. I also pray our conversations moving forward will be fruitful and lead to a strengthened Lord's Alliance. Silverymoon and I of course stand as always for freedom against the tyranny of the Zhentarim, and support the words of the emissary of Waterdeep here this day. It is my sincere hope that gold earned on agreements with those following evil and working cruelty won't blind the good people of this city anymore. May Most Holy Mystra grant us all wisdom as we move forward.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you Lady Alustriel, your words always come as the rain to the land itself.

Narlhelm: Emissary of Neverwinter.

Vincent Delas: Thank you, your graces. Lord Nasher sends his regards. Neverwinter is quite busy with raiders from Ruathym and Luskan, and as such merchandise may be delayed. We are working with the navy of Waterdeep to deal with the situation. That is all.

Eltan: Thank you for the information, Emissary of Nevetwinter. Send our regards back to Nasher that we understand the problems he faces.

color=#FFFF40]Narlhelm:[/color] Emissary of Elturel.

Emissary of Elturel: Your graces. Lord Dhelt, the Hellriders and Elturel of course stand with the Lord's Alliance and support the words of the emissary of Waterdeep and the Lady Alustriel Silverhand.

Eltan: Thank you, Emissary.

Narlhelm: Emissary of Doron Amar.

Councilor Feleron Nierdre: I am Councillor Feleron Nierdre, here to speak in the name of our newly chosen leader- Glimmerlady Syndreth Fieryfey. She sends her regards as, unfortunately, she is busy with very important matters pertaining to the security of our settlement. I wish to state that Doron Amar fully supports and stands behind words of esteemed Lady Alustriel Silverhand. No truer words were spoken. That is all.

Belt: Thank you Feleron. The court appreciates your presence in place of Glimmerlady Syndreth. We would look forward to meeting her.

Narlhelm: Emissary of Candlekeep.

Edelgarde Spades Candlekeep has no topic to raise at this time.

Liia Jannath: Your presence is appreciated nevertheless, Scribe.

Narlhelm: Emissary of Kraak Helzak.

Boendal Silvereye The Kingdom do be having no matters to present at this date. We stand by our word and by our treaty.

Entar Silvershield: The court appreciates your presence, and looks forward to many fruitful ventures.

Narlhelm: We move on to the representative of the Chalice of Siamorphe.

Representative of the Chalice of Siamorphe: The Chalice of Siamorphe, newly formed group of noble followers of the Divine Right, wishes to express our support to the Grand Dukes of Baldur's Gate. We do, as well, wish to implore all nobles of the court to remember the words of the deity which once resided within this city. Our duty is to the people beneath us, for them we serve as much as we do. This year's fortunately fought off famine had shown the faults and flaws of our hearts. It is our sincere hope everyone will reflect upon their deeds and learn from them. By Siamorphe's wisdom.

Belt: Truer words could not be said or scribed. Thank you for your wisdom this evening and your time amongst the court.

Narlhelm: Derick Ranloss of Grand Duke Eltan's court.

Derik Ranloss: Your Graces, as stated, my intent was to provide perhaps some information to the Court regarding the roads northwards towards Waterdeep in depth. However, unfortunately I cannot offer the information I wished. As Your Graces are clearly aware from your last trip, the northern tradeway is still overrurn with banditry from the last few years, making trade over land from the north difficult. I spent about a week on the road charting various bandit movements and then time analyzing those movements. I had hoped to offer you hard targets that could be taken and secured so the routes could be safe. However, there are none of significant note, as most of the banditry is opportunistic rather than organized. It is then my recommendation that to open the Tradeway further, an appropriate bounty on banditry in the northern tradeway could be posted to glean the constant attention of adventurers and mercenaries, thus keeping the roads clearer and trade with our northern neighbors easier and smoother.

Eltan: We did run into some bandits and trolls on our way to Waterdeep, but nothing significant either. The Coast Way at least seems relatively free troubles. For now.

Derik Ranloss: If his grace wishes, I will have a full report for him by the next morning.

Belt: If the citizens of Baldur's Gate find these roadways to be important in the interest of our city, I would fully support planning a group or expedition to secure these trade ways. While the Flaming Fist cannot be allocated, I believe in the strength of our citizens. You Derik are proof of that within yourself.

Eltan: That would be appreciated. Also if you learn any new movements along the road in the future.

Derik Ranloss: Thank you Your Grace. It shall be so Your Grace.

Belt: If I could allocate the resources, would you be willing to lead this venture?

Derik Ranloss: I would.

Belt: I will hold you to it. Thank you Derik. Is there anything else you would like to bring to the court?

Derik Ranloss: There is not Your Grace, at this time.

Belt: Thank you Derik. We look forward to working with you further.

Narlhelm: Terri Xon of the Phoenix Company.

Terri 'Xon: In an effort to promote growth in trust with our organization I ask if the your Graces will accept this oath of fealty. I, Terri 'Xon and the Phoenix Company pledge total obedience and loyalty to the legitimate authority of the Grand Dukes of Baldur's Gate.

Belt: Please. There is really no need for that Ms. 'Xon.

Terri 'Xon: I beg to differ your Grace, the letter we received indicated we have much to account for.

Liia Jannath: We can speak about it in private some time, Terri.

Terri 'Xon: Yes your grace.

Belt: Thank you Mrs. 'Xon. But you a citizen of this city. Stand proud amongst your people.

Liia Jannath: Did you have anything else to bring to this court today, Terri?

Terri 'Xon: Thank you, no your graces, only my oath at this time.

Liia Jannath: We thank you for it, Terri, but this court is not the time for it. We can speak of it later.

Terri 'Xon: Yes your Grace.

Narlhelm: Netanya of House Divine.

Netanya d’Abdelledion’dy’Quellium: Thank you Your Graces. Two moons ago House Divine was able to secure three wagon loads of food shipments from Beregost for delivery to Baldur’s Gate to help mitigate the effects of the famine. That aid shipment was delivered to the several charitable temples to include the Temple of Ilmater for distribution to those most in need. We would like to publically thank the Order of the Silver Rose for their assistance in providing protection for the wagon in transit from Beregost to the Baldur’s Gate. Lastly I’ve submitted a report on the incidents that impacted southern trade route for your graces to review if you hadn’t already. That concludes my statement and I yield my time. Thank You.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you Netanya for your generosity towards the people of Baldur's Gate. The court appreciates your time and your strides to feed the city at a dire time.

Netanya d’Abdelledion’dy’Quellium: You're most welcome Your Graces.

Narlhelm: Knight-Commander Veslana of the Order of the Silver Rose.

Veslana Raven Your Graces. The Silver Rose will align with Lady Alustriel, and the Lord's Allaince, with respect to the Zhentarim. We feel to align with the Zhents is a Devil's Bargain. That said, we will always respect the lawful agreements of the Dukes But there are other ways, even odd arrangements, to help the Coast. Who would of thought to get food to our citizens, with a House Divine and Silver Rose agreement? I say that the best of us can be brought out with the right leadership. And we need not sell our soul for a pittance of bread. In conclusion, the Rose aligns with Lady Alustriel, and others, to always keep honor forefront in out minds.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you for speaking here today.

Narlhelm: Osric of House Vale and Grand Duchess Liia's court.

Osric Vale I thank you for this Court’s time and will endeavor to be brief. I would lend my voice in support of the words of the Chalice of Siamorphe - that the tenets of Lady Siamorphe are critical to just and fair leadership and crucial to the livelihood of the people whom they rule. The Divine Right proclaims that ‘Those who rule must do so with the best interests of their subjects in mind,’ even when ambition and desire would lead one elsewhere. I would assert that the best interest of the Gate’s people includes not only their financial security but the curtailing of villainous and tyrannical influence in their lives. As such, I beseech Your Graces to give weight and credence to the words of the esteemed representatives of Waterdeep, Berdusk, Elturel, Silverymoon, Doron Amar, and the Order of the Silver Rose here today, as well as those who have yet to speak but share like minds and hearts. Lastly, for those fellow faithful of Lady Siamorphe, please know that House Vale’s estate, here in the palace district, hosts a small shrine to the Divine Right. I invite you to join us at your leisure to further discuss how we can work to serve the betterment of the commonfolk, the nobility, and this city as a whole. Thank you, Your Graces.

Liia Jannath: Thank you, Osric for your words. It is good to have you back in the city again. I pray you will stay for some time.

Osric Vale I shall, Your Grace. Thank you.

Narlhelm: Rhaeg of the Commons.

Rhaeg: Morning. Having convened with The Commons about a week ago, they agreed upon a topic to be brought to Your Graces' attention. It's their belief that their labor - While supplanted generously by private and mercantile charity and Good Works... It's their belief and request that there be a more Duchal, institutionalized form of looking after their welfare. Including, among other things, upkeep for injury, labor, and household. Any implementation of the request, of course, remains at Your Graces' discretion. Believe that's all from my part. Thanks.

Liia Jannath: If we set aside some resources and aid in recruitment, perhaps the Sanctuary of Ilmater can be able to hire some hands to help give some security of health for the people. Would that be agreeable, Rhaeg?

Rhaeg: The wording and general mood, as I understand it, was something of a desire for a minimalization of intermediaries.

Belt: Please elaborate if you would, Rhaeg.

Liia Jannath: What do you mean by intermediaries?

Belt: We would like to support you and our people.

Rhaeg: As you no doubt personally encountered, Duchess, there's a general sense of disengagement and a dearth of representation among the citizenry of your city. This is, of course, an improvement. But I would suggest a form of welfare to come from Your Graces' power, as in, a "Stipend from the Palace". It's my thought, and my hopes, that to give more consideration to the optics of from whom comes the Hand that Feeds, may be a boon to the public image of Your Graces.

Belt: Rhaeg, I must say.. With respect to our guests of our court, we are so often surrounded by lords, ladies, and dignitaries so that we can lose the word of the people of our cities. I want to thank you for being their voices today. I would like you to keep working at this, and write to me personally so that we may continue to work for our citizens.

Rhaeg: I'll bear it in mind.

Eltan: We are currently recruiting more city guard, and are looking into providing more job opportunities for the people in general. For the city with prosper, the people have to work.

Narlhelm: Lord Fenix Wandersoul.

Fenix Wandersoul: I've just returned from a trip from the north myself, so I am simply here in observance for today.

Eltan: Thank you for your attendance, Lord Fenix.

Fenix Wandersoul: Of course, Your Grace.

Narlhelm: Representative of the Church of Mystra.

Sirion Te'dwa: Once again we have nothing. Until the next time.

Liia Jannath: I hear your dueling chamber has been built, Sirion. I would like to come visit it soon, when time allows. Thank you for your attendance here today.

Narlhelm: Representative of the Sanctuary of Ilmater.

Ashenie Darakh: Your Graces. It is with deepest care that The Temple of The Broken God wishes to share its concern for the growing agitation within the city of Baldur's Gate. The city have, and still suffers heavy hardships, borne from a social and economical crisis that neither the treaties, military presences, or full involvement of the organisations of this city have been able to fully prevent. I wish to stop here to thank the many organisations that have cared to offer precious resources to mitigate the harms of famine, loss of work and shelter within the city. Many of them stand here today, and have shown deepest care for this city, so thank you. These harms, your Graces, have left babies unfed, women giving birth with anxiety because they do not know how to feed them, fathers ready to give up because they cannot protect their families. These are not just words, they happen every day, in the streets of Baldur's Gate. And I cannot bear witness to this without trying to do something so that situation never happens again. A full report crossing perspectives of various people and organisations have already been sent to you to share enlightment on the matter. So today, I wish to ask to your Grace a question. How can we all move forward, with all those who are concerned by this situation, so a great city like Baldur's Gate does not have to suffer such harms, without forgetting peace and protection of our people? Without being forced to trade with people that find their riches on slavery, or markets that can harm others? Without having to witness our soldiers and people die and suffer? I shall thank you for your consideration.

Belt: There's so very much to say, Sister Ashenie. May I ask you a question in return? How long have you worked with the Shrine of Ilmater?

Ashenie Darakh: I have worked with the Shrine of Suffering of this City for almost two years. I have served the Ilmatari Church since my early childhood, Your Grace.

Belt: I've known the shrine for some time. From Caretakers as Abby Winters to the Living Saint Merielle. I want to personally thank you and the temple for all you do for our city. Taking in the poorest of the poor and the sickest of the sick. There are not words we can express for what that means to our city. Our city is only as strong as our ability to pull one another forward. I wish I could answer your questions in a sentence, but you would find yourself a book. My answer for now is the strength of our citizens amongst eachother, and people like yourself Please do not let this matter rest.

Liia Jannath: I concur with Belt. You ask many difficult questions, and your words speak straight to my heart, Sister Ashenie. As I mentioned in the very beginning, I can't speak to details, but I hope our talks in Waterdeep this last tenday and the upcoming meetings we will have with the Lord's Alliance will help alleviate these harms and concerns soon.

Ashenie Darakh: Ilmatari know no rest.

Liia Jannath: There is light and hope on the horizon, Sister.

Ashenie Darakh: If I may, Your Graces. Part of this agitation is borne from the feeling of being unheard. Many here, today or yesterday, have voiced matters dear to their hearts. I beg you to not let the feelings of being neglected and unheard choke their voices in darkness. Thank you again for your time and attention, Your Graces.

Liia Jannath: Your words and feelings are most certainly heard. And we will heed them. Thank you very kindly for your moving words, Sister.

Alexander Holgart: Your Graces. Today I bring my unfiltered sincerity. First of all, I would like to compliment Lord Harkonis for how well and masterfully he made complete and utter fools of this city and its rulers, to the point of bringing me here, trying to demonstrate how the Zhentarim should not be trusted. So now, for all four of you, and all of us, I will state the obvious. He is isolating this city from its allies; his gold and goods are but a veil to cover for his true intent to divide and conquer. Disarming the city at the head of the Flaming Fist, especially now that his soldiers struggle on multiple fronts. He acts strong when he is weak. He plays the lamb when he is the wolf. He does it so well that he demands for public statements on your behalf, he made you publish his propaganda for him. How embarassing. He will say that he only wants this city to prosper, yet he asks for proclaims and recognition. He will say that attacking him means to take food away from the people, yet he only provides for a fraction that could be replaced. He will say the he is good and reasonable, that his predecessors were at fault. Yet he forgets to mention that the leadership has always been the same: Fzoul Chembryl. But who is Fzoul Chembryl? I have a report to help us understand. The person who wrote it is in this very room. I quote: "All the Banites knelt to this blond man wearing a crown. Fzoul' spirit had chains. He was wrapped in them, but also wielding them like whips. There was a terrible presence to him, like I was looking at Bane himself. He scared me. So, this is your partner, Lord Harkonis is just one of the many faces of the true leader of the Zhentarim. Now I believe we were all aware of this, the whole time. Have you chosen to ignore it out of stupidity? Greed? Have you been blackmailed? We will never know. A trade deal with the Zhentarim, an embassy to slavers, moronic brutes beating people in the streets acting as your guards and keepers of the law, dark cults rising. This city is falling and you as leaders are responsible. But this can be changed. So now, you must choose. You can continue playing Harkonis' pawns and walk further in this path of isolation and carry on expanding this monument to decadence we call a Ducal Palace. Or you can put an end to this embarassing chapter and go back to those allies who truly care about this city and its people. We all make mistakes, but we all must be given a chance to atone, so you can lead by example. A good example, for one. I am sure the Lords Alliance will be joyful in knowing that Baldur's Gate came back to its senses, just like Duke Belt. That is all.

Belt: Alexander. I must thank you. This is truly the most honest words I've heard in the last three tenday.

Alexander Holgart: Honesty is part of our Holy Duty.

Belt: If there is anything else you have to say, I would be willing to hear it.

Alexander Holgart: The Triadic Collective will bring propositions, we have much ideas to share but this is not the place. Though the city must be willing to embrace its rightful place in the Lords Alliance first.

Belt: Without the Lords Alliance our city may have crumbled under the undead or the war with Amn. That is not something we proud people may like to admit. Especially not your grace Grand Duke Eltan. Our city can do better, but it cant ever see itself clearly without its people speaking as you did today. Avoid calling your grace cowards, but always speak the truth.

Alexander Holgart: I can promise you sincerity the same way I promised it to the Loyal Fury, as for your diplomatic talks with your allies we are hopeful. As for my choice of words, that is noted.

Liia Jannath: Your words, Sword of Torm, are harsh but fair in many respects. Know that you are heard, loud and clear. I'm sure you understand this court is not the time and place of making decisions, but you are heard, Sir Alexander. And all the others in this court, such as sister Ashenie, who speak of the agitation and hardships of the people. We hear you, and we are looking to improve.

Narlhelm: High Lady Alyssia Leonheart of the Halls of Inner Light.

Alyssia Leonhart: Your Graces, The Halls of Inner Light has a proposal, that may actually solve a few of these problems. In the past the Gate's lifeline has been trade, but it has been neglecting the needs of the people, and each and every winter we seem to find ourselves at the mercy of the generosity of our political rival, and trade partner. While you have declared that there is talks within the Alliance to aid the issues of our fair city, and look to the needs of our strong and determined peoples, I simply wish to ask you for the aid in starting new farmlands, West along the Chionthar, along the north banks. I've identified a sizable area which would be good farmsteading lands, irrigated with a local stream, and with the assistance of Priestess Runa and Priestess Lily of the Halls, that the farmlands will have minimal impact upon nature while providing needed food supply for the city. While this does not immediately solve our issues, it gives those out of work, wondering where their next meals were to come from, and out of coin to feed themselves a chance to make anew. If we hire Bauldurians for the farms, educate them should they volunteer for the jobs, and let them live on the lands they will tend. In return for the excess food grown on these farms sold exclusively in Bauldurian markets, the flaming fist will provide security of the farms, until it is untenable or a militia is raised if needed. I am willing today to provide two hundred thousand gold worth of trade bars today, if you will reciprocate Your Graces, to begin construction and purchase of materials and seeds needed.

Belt: High Lady Alyssia, this is a great plan for our city. The expansion of farmlands would help our people in finding work as well as feeding other citizens. Where are we with current Flaming Fist recruits? Is this something we can offer?

Eltan: The recruitment is open, though for now the applicants have been few. We hope that more will come soon and we will strengthen our efforts into recruiting more city guard.

Alyssia Leonhart: Those lands are generally peaceful, with little concern to most, it would make excellent patrol grounds for new guards as needed.

Derik Ranloss: If it pleases Your Graces, may I add something to the High Lady's proposal?

Liia Jannath: As Eltan says, we are recruiting more city guard who could be used to ensure security in expanded farmlands. Moreover, Eltan mentioned earlier that we are looking into ways of providing job opportunities for the people. Such farms would be a good way to provide some of that.

Alyssia Leonhart: And it eases the burdens of the aid your allies need to commit in the future, along with not needing the kind gifts of their rival.

Belt: I have to agree. The more our city can support itself the better. Please Derik. Speak as you would.

Derik Ranloss: If resources regarding patrols and guards being hired are tight at this point for this proposal to be successful, the Bladestone Foundation offers its services to the City to travel to and help train up the recruits in a more timely manner. Thus to take pressure off the City itself with its multiple needs.

Belt: That would be an excellent addition as a temporary measure.

Derik Ranloss: At Your Graces' pleasures then.

Eltan: In the long term, however, such measures are inadequate and recruits will have to be trained by the City Guard and the Flaming Fist formally.

Belt: Is there anything we may offer to support you High Lady?

Alyssia Leonhart: Simply that you match my donation to the city for such an undertaking, to place yourselves in the game as well, having personal stake in the success of the farms.

Entar Silvershield: I would find it agreeable to match the donations of the city.

Fenix Wandersoul: I'll match the donation as well.

Alyssia Leonhart: Then we have an accord, and myself and my priestess of nature will begin to draw up more official plans, and review them with the Druids of the Enclave. Thank you Your Graces.

Belt: Go on, Emmanuel. Please.

Emmanuel Venandi: I do believe that the High Lady has alleviated some of what was on my mind, I would like to ask that I be involved in the planning and execution of the endeavor. While I trust the wisdom of my druids, there may be some circumstances she is unaware of that I may be able to provide some insights into, such as the patterns of the spirits and animals of the area.

Alyssia Leonhart: I would welcome your insights as well Guardian Emmanuel.

Emmanuel Venandi: That is all I had, Your Graces.

Belt: Thank you Emmanuel. Discuss it amongst yourselves. Continue the conversation.

Narlhelm: Lord Aaron Lyonaler of the Radiant Heart.

Lord Aaron Lyonaler: There have been a great many things brought forth today. So, I will not repeat some of them. I wanted to speak today on road security and some construction the Order is seeing to. East down the River Chionthar, there a span of river that is often crossed by travelers and merchants. We are beginning the process of moving materials down river to build a bridge in support of trade to the city. It will be maintained by an outpost there. This outpost will welcome our allies of the Lord's Alliance members who need a place to rest, this is also of course extended to the Flaming Fist, should their patrols take them out east. We hope to improve an issue the city has with decreased trade towards the city, due to the dangers of the roads. Our efforts will be looking east to improve on these dangers, removing bandits and monsters that threaten trade to the city.

Eltan: This effort seems to me is more appropriate to coordinate with High Rider Lord Dhelt in Elturel. It has our support, but it is outside ducal lands.

Lord Aaron Lyonaler: We have met directly with Lord Dhelt. They have approved of it as well. We have also spoken to the Green Enclave to try to have minimal impact of the wildlife there.

Eltan: Seems like you've got it well covered. Good job!

Lord Aaron Lyonaler: It is outside of lands patrolled by the city. But will help to increase the safety of what comes in to such lands. But, also did wish to extend the offer that should the city have need of its use, if it there.

Narlhelm: That concludes this session of High Court. We thank you for attending and look forward to inviting you again quite soon.

Narlhelm: Welcome all to this high court of the Grand Dukes of Baldur's Gate. We ask now for silence in the gallery. We will start today's session with the emissary from the Zhentarim, Lady Tarina of Darkhold.

Tarina: My lords, my lady.

Entar Silvershield: Welcome, Lady Tarina.

Tarina: I am Lady Tarina, the new Master of Darkhold. Lord Selengil Harkonis has returned to Zhentil Keep at the request of the High Lord Manshoon, so I will now be speaking in the interests of Darkhold and the Zhentarim for this court and beyond. Darkhold has several issues to bring before the court this evening. First, we wish to offer our gratitude to the leadership of Baldur's Gate for not sending additional support to the Lords' Alliance army, despite declaring for the Lords' Alliance at the outbreak of the war. While Darkhold is, naturally, not at all pleased with Baldur's Gate's decision to break its arrangements with us, nor Lord Eltan's refusal to negotiate the hiring of elements of the Flaming Fist Company, we recognize that Baldur's Gate could have done more to support the Lords' Alliance and did not. On to matters of business, we wish to address the ban of Zhentarim representatives from this city over pamphlets released by Barristan Schultze, Vigilator of the Black Abbey. We should first note that neither Schultze nor the Black Abbey represent Darkhold and the Zhentarim and, indeed, the Church of Bane no longer holds dominion over the Zhentarim following the return of Lord Manshoon. We will note that at no point did Zhentarim soldiers threaten Baldur's Gate - anyone who thought we could lacks a fundamental understanding of our position in the Darkhold-Lords' Alliance war, and the reach of our forces. Indeed, it seems important to note, considering statements made by certain prominent actors that the war was declared by Darkhold, when the truth, of course, is the reverse. In our necessary absence, individuals like the Vigilator and these other parties have taken it upon themselves to speak for the Zhentarim, and a campaign of disinformation has been waged regarding our actions and motives. Several will, undoubtedly, immediately go on to do this during today's session. I would, therefore, remind the lords of this court that the official position of Darkhold and the Zhentarim can be deciphered only from formal representatives of Darkhold and the Zhentarim. We request that any policies instated against our organization in response to the actions of individuals not officially recognized to speak for us are to be lifted and that, in the future, our official position is sought through diplomatic entreaty.

Entar Silvershield: We will of course acknowledge that the Zhentarim is not responsible for the actions of individuals not part of the Zhentarim.

Tarina: Thank you. I have a second issue to raise. Darkhold's second issue is in regards to Baldur's Gate's violation of the terms of the Baldur's Gate-Zhentarim Open Relations and Trade Treaty of 1353, the Baldur's Gate-Darkhold Information Sharing Treaty of 1358, and the Baldur's Gate-Darkhold Famine Relief Treaty of 1358.

Entar Silvershield: Go on.

Tarina: We wish to raise three points in particular: In the BG-Zhentarim Open Relations and Trade Treaty, article 3 stipulated that the Council of Four recognized the Zhentarim's proportional right of self-defense if attacked first. By siding with the Lords' Alliance and canceling trade agreements, our self-defense rights were ignored. We will expect a public apology for this violation and a reopening of Baldur's Gate to Zhentarim trade. Second: In the BG-Darkhold Information Sharing Treaty, the protection of our trade routes was guaranteed by the agreement. As the cessation of trade can be considered the destruction of these trade routes, we retained the 15% collateral on profits of the 1357 year that had been paid to us. Darkhold will be retaining this collateral until such a time as Baldur's Gate can guarantee open trade. Should trade remain closed, we will, in keeping with the terms stipulated by the treaty regarding violations of the agreement, expect to be paid an amount of gold equal to the cost of all lost trade shipments from the beginning of Mirtul 1358 until the end of Nightal, using the 1357 trade year as a basis. This will go towards repaying the lost profits of our trading partners over this year resulting from Baldur's Gate's decision. Third. In the BG-Darkhold Famine Relief Treaty, we were promised a 50% concession on taxes on Zhentarim luxury goods for a period of 6 months starting from Alturiak 1359 in return for a 90% reduction in the costs of purchases of foodstuffs from Alturiak 1358 to 1359. We will expect payment of an amount equal to what this value might have been for the declared period, subtracting any lost months due to the cessation of trade, using the 1357 trade year as a basis. If these contract violations are not settled, the Zhentarim will not permit caravans originating from Baldur's Gate or from Baldur's Gate-based trading companies from crossing the Yellow Snake Pass or any other Zhentarim-controlled road along the Long Road to Riches caravan route, and we will not be open to any future trading arrangements. As Baldur's Gate has closed its trade to Darkhold and the Zhentarim, Darkhold and the Zhentarim will reciprocate accordingly. Should repayment for these broken deals be made, we will forgive the misjudgment and be willing to reopen trade with the city. We will also rescind our remarks on the integrity and honor of the leadership of Baldur's Gate.

Belt: The Zhentarim is as I understand currently under quite different leadership, and has changed significantly as an organisation since those treaties were signed. Different leaders and a different organisation. Why are we to regard it as the same that signed the treaties in the past?

Tarina: Because a city wishing itself to be known as a reliable trading partner is not one that arbitrarily chooses to end its arrangements outside of the terms agreed upon. I should also note that the contracts were broken while Lord Harkonis - the one who arranged them - was still the Master of Darkhold.

Eltan: A city wishing itself to be a reliable ally will also stand with its alliance.

Tarina: Then that ally should not have made treaties in opposition to its partners to begin with. We, of course, do not expect an answer today, and will provide a copy of our demands following the session.

Entar Silvershield: We can discuss this in depth at another time, in a more private setting. The fact of the matter is however that the change of leadership to High Lord Manshoon invalidates previous expectations of the agreements.

Tarina: Your agreements were made with Darkhold and the Zhentarim, not with High Lord Chembryl - who is not even a signatory on the contracts. While we may be willing to alternative forms of repayment, repayment is required for any future trade arrangements to be made. Darkhold has no further issues to raise today.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you for your attendance, Lady Tarina. Let us reconvene in a more private setting soon.

Tarina: Of course. Thank you for your time, my lords.

Narlhelm: Watcher Wai Li of the Everwatch, representative of the northern baronies of Amn.

Wai Li: Grand Duchess, Grand Dukes, Masters of the Council of Four of Baldur's Gate, thank you for the kind invitation to your Court. I speak today at a representative of the interests of Northern Amn and their baronies, as given authority by the Council of Six as Head Watchknight of the Everwatch, an Amnian based Helmite mercenary company as you well know. I wish to request the current status of interest in a new non-aggression pact, security cooperation, and/or trade agreement between your Council of Four and the Council of Six of Amn or at the very least with the baronies of Northern Amn. In the years since the Amn-Gate War, Head Watchknight Asperan and I, representing Amn at various junctures, have attempted to foster reductions in strife between our polities, along as with many of your representatives over the years, such as the esteemed Lord Aaron Lyonaler. We see this as a platinum moment to renew such attempts at peace or trade in vigil. Some might even argue that the lack of interest in Baldurian and Amnian circles in the past is the very reason that other polities saw opportunity to treat with Baldur's Gate instead.

Eltan: No. There will be no trade with Amn.

Wai Li: It is in the interest of good to see strife reduced and commerce thrive between your great city and Amn and in the interest of the common people to see goods flow between and to avoid war. Thank you for your time. And Helm Protect Baldur's Gate and the Council of Four.

Liia Jannath: We will not be quick to dismiss fostering good relations with other nations, but it is also of course important for us to heed the advise of our citizens in this.

Wai Li: If I may, Grand Duchess, would it be fair to ask if any of your advisors wish to interject now on this with view? As some may be present in your great Court this day.

Liia Jannath: Perhaps. Lord Osric, perhaps, what would your thoughts be?

Osric Vale: Your Grace. Peace between the Gate and the Amn is deeply valued, but I would be remiss to not point out that I was not present during the Amn-Gate War and thus am not fully informed on the subject of our relations. I would respectfully request some time to further investigate this matter and provide counsel at a later time.

Eltan: I think that means we need to give our advisors a history lesson.

Unknown Observer: What the Dukes say about Cyricist openly proselitising inside their domains?

Eltan: Watchman Asen ma-

Sean Asen: Out.

[The unknown observer is escorted outside by the Flaming Fist]

Eltan: Sean. I'm sure your father educated you on Amn-Gate history. What are your thoughts?

Sean Asen: The forces of Amn attempted to employ assassins for the sole purpose of killing The Morning Lord of Beregost. They also employed fire and siege engines against a unfortified and lightly defended hin village. Two of the most notable crimes they committed during the war.

Wai Li: As far as I know all these claims are true. Which is why I am concerned of any provocations or lack of trade bonds that could lead to future strife.

Eltan: Thank you Watchman Asen.

Entar Silvershield: As you can imagine, Watcher Wai Li, we wil have to discuss this matter with our advisors.

Lord Aaron Lyonaler: If I may, Your Grace? Just a quick note.

Entar Silvershield: Lord Lyonaler.

Lord Aaron Lyonaler: We are hearing form the Black Network, even telling them they will be considered. During the war, they burned an entire village, only three children survived it. But, the Amn Gate war and the crimes committed are being presented as reason not to. I am for a non-aggression pact with the, in order to focus on our true enemy, the enemy of the Lord's Allinace itself. That we may secure our northern borders. That is all I had for now.

Entar Silvershield: We will discuss these matters. I think a non-aggression pact may be agreeable, but trade is unlikely right now.

Wai Li: Thank you for your time. Any movement as such would serve the interests of good and of Amn and the northern baronies. Good business and Helm Protect, Grand Dukes.

Narlhelm: Grigior Fzand, Emissary of Thay.

Grigior Fzand: Your graces. I only wish to convey that as the Weave now is stabilised and slowly returns to Baldur's Gate, the Thayan Enclave once again is open for business. Once our portal to Thay is operational again, we expect our new Khazark to arrive.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you.

Narlhelm: Archdruid Emmanuel of the Green Enclave.

Emmanuel Venandi: The Green Enclave has nothing to bring at this time.

Narlhelm: Thank you. Leylon Starpetal, Emissary of Berdusk.

Emissary Leylon Starpetal Berdusk would at this time only remind the Grand Dukes and the court that the Zhentarim performed corruptive and evil magic that destroyed a significant portion of Berdusk's farmlands. We are slowly recovering, but it is hard work.

Liia Jannath: Thank you for your attendance, saer.

Narlhelm: Councilor Feleron Nierdre of Doron Amar.

Feleron Nierdre: Doron Amar wishes to convey its hopes that the Weave is restored in the city as quickly as it is possible. Aside of that, we'd like to remind everyone that Amn has put in place persecution of practitioners of the Art. A declaration they have no withdrawn from. Since many of our people live with magic as their trade and philosophy, we denounce such practices or, indeed, overlooking them for the sake of "good relations". That is all.

Liia Jannath: Regarding the Weave in Baldur's Gate, it is my understanding that the Church of Mystra has done work to restore it, and they continue to monitor its gradual regeneration. Thank you for your attendance, Councilor Feleron.

Narlhelm: Maesold Dundryn, Emissary of Waterdeep.

Maesold Dundryn: Your graces. Waterdeep is still recovering from Myrkul's horde of undead, but the Lords of Waterdeep have asked me to convey concern about any reestablishment of trade with the Zhentarim.

Entar Silvershield: Give our regards to Lord Piergeiron. Thank you for your attendance, saer Dundryn.

Narlhelm: Nora Brightfield, Emissary of Elturel.

Nora Brightfield: Your graces. Today, High Rider Lord established the barony of Trielta, surrounding the township of Triel, and raised captain Vanders of the Hellriders to its baroness. She is now Lady Julia Vanders, Baroness of Trielta. Efforts will now progress to address the lands within this barony. Thank you.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you for your attendance, emissary Brightfield. Bring our words of good fortune to Lord Dhelt and Lady Vanders.

Narlhelm: Guide Edelgarde of Candlekeep.

Guide Edelgarde Spades: Candlekeep has nothing to bring to Your Graces' attention today.

Liia Jannath: We thank you for your attendance nonetheless, Guide.

Narlhelm: Sir Althalous Fenwick, of the Church of Mystra.

Althalous Fenwick: The church of Mystra has nothing to speak on today, My lords, only to offer thanks to House Vale for their acommodations of our people during this time of difficulty.

Osric Vale: We did naught but what any other would do in our stead, Sir Fenwick, and offer our gratitude a thousand-fold for your Church's work restoring magic to the city.

Narlhelm: Revered Sister Ashenie of the church of Ilmater.

Ashenie Darakh: Your Graces The Grand Dukes of the Council of Four, I present myself before you to voice the concerns of the Shrine of the Suffering. But before I do, I would humbly require your exceptional permission to turn towards the emissaries and diplomats of the Lords' Alliance, in hope to share a word.

Liia Jannath: Go ahead, Revered Sister.

Ashenie Darakh: I do imagine that, today, like many others, it has not been easy for you to hear some of the words spoken here, given the hardships your people had to endure. The war that has been painted through the letter of a treaty and attempts to underline dissensions among your allies is more than words written on a paper : It is the interwtined stories of your soldiers, of the orphans, and widows left behind. Of burnt people, tortured, desecrated, in more ways than my words can describe. For all this, I wish to say that I am sorry. For the suffering, for the hardships and the pain. And I wish to assure you that you might find within the Church of the Broken God support, and care for your people, should you ever wish. There shall, always be in the city a voice to care and it was important to voice it. It is precisely the cause of the people and their suffering in this context of upcoming winter that I wished to bring before you. The hardships of the last years that Baldur's Gate has known have not yet been completely mended. Winter comes with its natural difficulties, for trade, for the homeless, for all the vulnerable populations.

Entar Silvershield: We are well prepared for the winter.

Ashenie Darakh: Some of them waited, long, for a sign of you, only to see that the Commons' Courtesy, which was welcome, was followed by murder. With the rise of agitation, with the promised difficulties of trade, and with the condition of the people in the streets, and in the sewers, in the prisons and among the outcasts, not even to mention the various refugees that...

Liia Jannath: Thank you for being the voice of the suffering, Revered Sister Ashenie. And thank you for your attendance. I am sorry - I didn't mean to interrupt. Please go on, Revered Sister.

Ashenie Darakh: The people need your words, and guidance, Grand Dukes. I hoped that you might hear this plea, to speak today in the favor of the direction and perspectives we might have to commonly follow, united, to ensure that Baldur's Gate does not have to watch its people die in the cold, and its children buried because they starved.

[Duchess Liia Jannath stands up and walks closer to Sister Ashenie, then holds her hands]

Liia Jannath: Your plea is heard, Revered Sister, and we will try as best as we can to heed your words. Thank you for being their voice.

Ashenie Darakh: Thank you for hearing them. And for offering guidance. I do not wish to admit that a great city like Baldur's Gate can cast anyone aside. And to the question "Why did our soldiers, mothers and children had to die?" I do not wish the answer to be "Because we could act but we did not". Thank you for your care.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you for your attendance, Revered Sister.

Narlhelm: Gaven Arkalis of the church of the Triad.

Sir Gaven Arkalis: Your Graces, as this is the first Court of the Church of the Triad, we wish it to be known that we stand in witness and pledge continued service to the People of Baldur's Gate and in their best interest; I have nothing further and shall cede our time.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you for your attendance, saer Arkalis.

Narlhelm: Matron Netanya of House Divine.

Netanya d’Abdelledion’dy’Quellium: A pleasure Your Graces - Grand Duchess and Grand Dukes. Aside from the proposal submitted by House Divine for your Graces consideration we have nothing to report to the Council of Four. We patiently await the Palace’s response to our proposal. Thank you Your Graces; I humbly yield my time.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you for your attendance, matron Netanya. A response to your proposal will come as soon as we are able to get our bearings after what they now call the Time of Troubles.

Netanya d’Abdelledion’dy’Quellium: Thank you, Your Grace. We realize you have other matters of greater importance to tend to.

Narlhelm: Hrothar Silvereye, emissary of the Kingdom of Kraak Helzak. You should have been with the foreign emissaries to my left.

Eltan: Let him come forth. Kraak Helzak is a recent member of the Lord's Alliance.

Hrothar Silvereye: Eh? Emersairy? No I'm just a ranger! Anyhow! I come afore your esteemed personages good Dukes to ask that you correct a great injustice. My Bear. Urvok, the hag slaying Saviour of Baldurian Children is not able to walk the good cities grounds. After risking life and limb alongside Sir Sean and Sister Ashienie to uncover and destroy a plot most vile. So I ask of you. If you could find it in your hearts to allow him to walk the city unmolested by the watch.

Entar Silvershield: I am afraid, master dwarf, we cannot allow bears inside our city.

Hrothar Silvereye: I mean he's a good sort. Perhaps a special allowance than to accompany me when I'm passing through the city? Not have to be you know free roaming and the sort. I could pay a licence and fee maybe?

Entar Silvershield: We thank you for your attendance, saer Silvereye. Please express our appreciation to king Battlehammer.

Hrothar Silvereye: Thank you for hearing me out.

Narlhelm: My apologies your graces. Rhaeg, Spokesman of the Commons.

Rhaeg: The Commons wished to communicate their appreciation at the efforts invested into the Common Courtesy, firstly. That said, there have been problems with its implementation, and, chiefly chosen among what they wanted me to bring up to you today is the mitigation of its benefits by the city's Merchants and Guilds. Specifically, the massive increase of prices of mercantile goods which have all-but-cancelled out these benefits for the former, and the stranglehold on profession and practice by the latter. The city's Guilds monopolize many professional trades, and my constituents decry both this and the barriers to even entering such an organization - The demanded dues and entry fees are prohibitive to the average person. While no response to these present issues is expected today, I'd like it to at least have been brought to public mind and attention, and for measures to amend and remedy these, to be put into hypothesizing.

Entar Silvershield: I will look into the matter and see if anything has changed with the Guilds.

Rhaeg: I should add, regarding these Guilds - Their monopolization is to the extent that several efforts to form a competing guild - The first natural solution - Have proven completely untenable due to their quashing of opposing efforts by the legal means available to them.

Liia Jannath: We must certainly try to find a way to not have our efforts to aid the common folk be in vain. Perhaps we can discuss some manner of regulations, Entar?

Entar Silvershield: We can discuss it.

Rhaeg: That's all.

Liia Jannath: Thank you for your attendance, Rhaeg.

Narlhelm: Niyressa Dawncrow of the Bladestone Foundation.

Niyressa Dawncrow: Your Graces, Grand Dukes. Since Amn’s despicable and indiscriminate slaughter of mages, we have seen influx of refugees - mages, their close ones and others. We have tried to offer long or short-term aid to whom we can, but our resources are limited. Going forward, the Bladestone Foundation would like to inquire whether the Council has a plan or stance on such refugees as they inadvertently make their way towards the city, so we can in good faith recommend their stay and deliver them here. And perhaps to alleviate the hearts of those who have already arrived. If there is any possibility for aid, integration into the populace and protection, not least of all from possible pursuers, likewise from Amn and other forces.

Liia Jannath: Baldur's Gate will of course be welcoming of mages fleeing persecution in Amn, provided of course they abide by our laws.

Eltan: Indeed, and there may be career opportunities in the Flaming Fist for such mages.

Niyressa Dawncrow: Of course your grace, wouldn't expect otherwise, for any who would not adhere. Definitely something to underline for them.

Liia Jannath: We thank you, then, for your attendance on behalf of the Bladestone Foundation.

Niyressa Dawncrow: And we thank you for the reply.

Narlhelm: Yashe of The Halls of Inner Light.

Yashe: Your graces, I wished to confer and affirm our organizations intent to rebuild. And ensure that the plot that once held our hall had not been reserved for other means.

Liia Jannath: Of course, we would not give it away to others. That would only be salt in your wounds after these times of troubles.

Yashe: Thank you then, for your time and patience in these times. We look forward to working for the betterment of the city again, and it's prosperous, and free future.

Liia Jannath: Thank you for your attendance, Yashe.

Narlhelm: Sinoc Haven of the Church of Helm.

Sinoc Haven: Your Graces. Although I have no topic to raise, I just wished to emphasis the words of Councilor Feleron and Lady Dawncrow that were said here today. I suggest for any arcanist of our lands not to go to Nashkel or further south, to avoid complications for that person. That because of the harsh new law of Amn. That's all I wished to tell you, your Graces.

Liia Jannath: We certainly advice our mages to avoid Amnian lands. Thank you for your attendance Sinoc.

Sinoc Haven: Your Graces.

Narlhelm: Oth Neren, chamberlain of House Darius.

Oth Neren: I've nothing much to add other than that we will gladly continue to serve the Gate and its people as we have been, your grace.

Entar Silvershield: Thank you for your attendance on behalf of House Darius, saer Neren.

Narlhelm: Lord Osric of House Vale.

Lord Osric Vale: Your Graces, I thank you for this opportunity to speak. Yours is the wisdom that leads us all and it is to that wisdom that I now appeal. Many factions, houses and orders of this great city have spoken in opposition to reopening trade with the Zhentarim before this session of court, including mine own. Your Graces, I thank you for hearing us. Allies and friends of this great city have spoken in opposition to the reopoening of diplomatic overtures with the Zhentarim. They stand here as true allies of the Lords' Alliance, whose war with Darkhold over the past half-year has seen many atrocities committed against them. Your Graces, I thank you for hearing them as well. I humbly ask now that you hear these following wise words, imparted to all us citizens of the Gate on Tarsakh 26 of this very year. "Much have you all toiled and while we have tried to do our part as your leaders, we have been found wanting in your time of need. One such wanting was the signing of the diplomatic treaty with Darkhold, followed by further trade agreements in recent years. The rules and regulations protecting Zhentarim trade and agents have been a great thorn in the eyes and hearts of many of you - this is clear to see. It has been brought to our attention how Zhentarim influence spreads slowly yet unerringly, like a sickness taking root in our bodies." These are the words that heralded the end of the treaty with Darkhold. They conclude definitively with "Let it be known that Baldur's Gate stands with the Lords' Alliance." These are the words of His Grace, Duke Entar, signed and affixed with the seal of House Silvershield. These words demonstrate your wisdom in seeing a wrong righted. They demonstrate your leadership in standing with our true allies. These are your words, Your Grace. For them, I thank you. The Lady Tarina has argued that this city ought treat the Zhentarim as no different than when these words were written. She has argued that we ought not to have entered into agreements with Darkhold if we intended to honor our alliance with the Lords' Alliance. On this, I offer my enthusiastic accord. Your Graces, I beseech you. Weigh heavily the words of your subjects, your allies - and indeed, your own - against the demands that the Zhentarim have levied upon this day. I thank you for your time and consideration.

Liia Jannath: Thank you for your words, Osric. I think the reaction from the court doesn't need further comment.

Narlhelm: Lord Fenix Wandersoul.

Lord Fenix Wandersoul: I have nothing to add at this time.

Belt: Thank you for not having something to add, Fenix.

Narlhelm: Lastly, then, Lord Aaron Lyonaler.

Aaron Lyonaler: Order of the Radiant Heart Your Graces. Lord Vale has spoken elegantly to my points. But, I will speak on the independence shown by the city since the Black network no longer force the city in to the dependency they created upon it. Such shows that we do not need their goods. We do not need their envoys. I would call for a return to policies set forth prior to the signing of the Trade Treaty. That they be banned from Ducal lands. Envoys and trade wagons. Some feel I come at this from a moral vantage. But, there are, as have been brought forth by many, countless secular reasons to also cease contact. Please, Your Graces, drive them from this court, from this great city, and from these lands. <C=#00BFFF>He bows his head</C>

Entar Silvershield: We will have some private negotiations with Lady Tarina, but we will certainly discuss these matters before entering such negotiations."

Aaron Lyonaler: Thank you, Your Grace.

Eltan: Thank you for your words and attendance, Lord Lyonaler.

Narlhelm: That concludes todays session of High Court. On behalf of their graces, I thank you all for your attendance and patience."

Grand Duke Liia expresses scepticism and concern regarding Amn only targeting evil arcanists

Wai Li informs that Amn's arcane law only seek to hold those accountable operation without a license, and that the request only pertains to those of mutual moral and security threat

Grand Duke Eltan acknowledges the threat of evil arcanists running rampant, but given that the number of refugees is fairly low, he cannot commit resources to increasing their security, and instead requests that Wai Li provide dossiers on the criminals, such that the Fist can help apprehend those

Wai Li further asks if anyone thus apprehended will be tried for the crimes in Baldur's Gate, or given over to the Amnian authorities

Grand Duke Eltan informs there is currently no treaty with Amn for extradition, and as such apprehended criminals will face trial according to Baldurian Justice system

  • On behalf of the Mistress of Western Trade, Yuzhi Doressini, he offers the entire city, not just the Council, to have access to Thayan resources

  • Voices suspicion that Darkhold may have intentionally laxed their patrols of the Tunlands

  • Voices appreciation of the Dukes' efforts against the Crimson Spice and similar substances
  • Requests that the city immediately classify Crimson Spice as a controlled substance and ban its distribution by unauthorized parties

Grand Duke Eltan agrees to discuss the details of classifying the substance as requested
  • Requests leave to form a special task force in conjunction with the Radiant Heart, Flaming Fist and City Watch to investigate the source of the Crimson Spice and Golden Augury

Grand Duke Eltan appreciates the suggestion, and offers his advisor Moruene to help oversee the details of the proposed task force
Netanya representing House Divine
  • Requests copyright laws be put in place for the works and creations of craftsmen, with a reference to a Lord Forseeth matter from the previous year, and an inclusion of Aidan Thatcher (renowned shipwright) endorsing the motion

Grand Duke Entar expect the trade guilds will have their own say in how to enforce any such, but invites House Divine to submit a proposal as requested
Lord Aaron Lyonaler representing the Radiant Heart
  • Offers support to the suggestion by Lord Osric Vale, with the addition that funds be set aside to aid recovery for those suffering from the substances

Grand Duke Belt expresses gratitude in having the Radiant Heart's support dealing with the issue
Lord Aldeth Sashenstar and Lord Dabron Sashenstar (nephew) representing House Sashenstar
  • Informs that following the success of his first expedition, which discovered far away Sossal in the East, Lord Dabron is planning a new expedition to head out from Waterdeep in the Spring, with the aim to once again bring wealth and glory to the city by further exploring in that direction

Grand Duke Belt expresses concern about the destination, which will bring the expedition close to the Tuigan hordes

Grand Duke Belt endorses the expedition, with the Dukes giving their well-wishes
Sister Ashenie representing the Temple of Ilmater
(Despite the brevity of summary below the emotional impact on the Court was profound and cannot be understated)
  • Shares her experiences in working and speaking with those most affected by the substances running rampant throughout the city; telling a tale of how addiction through horrible situations lead to families breaking apart, children being orphaned, and the desperate and vulnerable being preyed upon by those with shallow morals who seek to profit from and perpetuate the situation
  • Asks the Council to consider how the city of Baldur's Gate can come together to weave a social tapestry to safe-guard against similar crisis in the future once this latest one has been dealt with, to spare children and the vulnerable from unspeakable harms

Grand Duke Liia laments that the fight against illegal trade is an ever-present challenge, but assures that the City Guard will have all the means necessary to keep the population safe

Grand Duke Eltan recognizes that the city is failing in the grand scheme of things to combat such crisis, but remain unaware of where the lack of effort is the greatest due to an uncountable number of factors, and asks Sister Ashenie to provide suggestions based on her observations
Sinoc Haven representing the Temple of Helm
  • Reports that the Baldurian temple of Helm has no subject to bring before the court
High Artificer Thalamond Albaier representing the Temple of Gond
  • Informs that despite the frozen Chiontiar their work in securing operable cranes and engineering to the City's docks proceed with little issue
  • Similarly their efforts to keep the city sewers running freely proceed with little issue, though passage into the underbelly is often problematic
  • Finally they report that the large cargo crane project financed by the Overseer of the Iron Trone is well under way (the Iron Throne provides more details later on)

Grand Duke Eltan expresses gratitude for the works, and development of the prototype crane
Charisa Flomeigne representing the Church of Siamorphe
  • Offers gratitude on behalf of Waterdeep for the join efforts against the pirate threat
  • Expresses a concern that once the winter ice breaks it hold on rivers, allowing trade to flow more frequently again, the pirates from Roaringshore will seize the opportunity, leaving only the land routes as safe options for trade
  • Cautions that many of the Waterdhavian ships are still in recovery following their skirmish with the Lord of Bones
  • Proposes a closer partnership in the coming year, as Waterdhavian nobles seek to travel south for winter presenting additional opportunities
  • Shares an observation that the people of the city must have more opportunities afforded them in light of the nobility failing them in recent years through the many disasters that have fallen upon the city, cautioning that Tethyr is a perfect example of what happens when the nobility ignores the plight of the people, with further suggestion to heed the words spoken by Sister Ashenie

Grand Duke Eltan expresses with some exasperation that while the words are no doubt well meant, and prompted by her faith and belief, they fall empty coming from someone who was not present during the trials and crises alluded to in the presentation, and that it borders on being disrespectful and rude

Grand Duke Eltan further explains that they are aware that not every solution is perfect, and mistakes undoubtedly have been made, the Dukes are not about to take advice from someone delivering veiled criticism with not even a hint of proposal on what to do differently, and subsequently dismisses Clarisa
Rhaeg representing the Commons
  • Alluding to Sister Ashenie's presentation before the court, he expresses dissatisfaction with the Dukes' notion that there are too many factors to consider to truly know where efforts taken will be most effective
  • Elaborates that the driving factor is business owners always looking for an increased bottom line, favouring workers who have a high productivity, which puts anyone not using Crimson Spice at a disadvantage due to Crimson Spice's ability to increase concentration and ward off fatigue
  • Further explains that the issue is exasperated by the limited number of jobs to fill and now also a limited supply of this productivity drug, which combine to create an untenable situation for anyone looking to put food on the table, clothe their family, or pay for housing, all of which are greater factors than recreational use of the drug

Grand Duke Liia thanks Rhaeg for his words, and asks he help the Commons put forward a list of suggestions to incentivise use of the drug

Grand Duke Belt adds that he is aware not every member of the Commons will have a full grasp on what is going on, their insight still comes from a point closer to the issue, making it just as valuable
( Grand Duke Eltan at this point appears quietly aggravated having had two back-to-back speakers criticize the Dukes efforts to help the people )

Overseer Terence Haelwing representing the Iron Throne
  • Informs on his intention to bring more arms, primarily siege weapons to the city, but is faced with a logistical setback due to the troubles in the Tunlands, necessitating a route along the Chiantor through Iriaebor instead, which is more expensive, and requires a specialized crane built by the Gondians to be possible at all
  • Joins the Berduskan sentiment from Lord Hhune in asking the Dukes to consider action in the Tunlands, and offers the resources of the Iron Throne to do so

Grand Duke Entar cautions that the logistical issue will most likely be most prevalent in Spring if action is not taken now
Rose Wintertal representing the Phoenix Company
  • Suggests more support be given to locals looking to hire apprentices, and tax credit given to businesses investing in education and training of the young, all with the assistance of local temples and guilds to help manage contests to reward those who excel in their lines of work, whether technical, magical, or as she believe is most apt for the city: art

Grand Duke Entar voices concern that the city may not be able to cover the expenses of the proposal, even if he finds it intriguing and promising, and suggests she involve the guild and noble houses for additional support and backing
( Ducal Court concluded )

Minutes of Court
Hidden: show

Grand Narlhelm: You are most welcome at this Court Session! Your Graces, I ask for your permission to begin.

Grand Duke Eltan: You may begin, Grand Narlhelm.

Grand Duke Belt: Aye, let's see what's in store.

Grand Narlhelm: I shall announce the speakers! When called to speak, please come forth before the Grand Dukes! Fesrat Golsithar, Emissary of Sembia. You may speak!

Emissary Fesrat Golsithar: Your graces! I speak on behalf if Overmaster Elduth Yarmmaster of Sembia and I bring grave news from the East! The Tuigan Horde proceeds undefeated, as their soldiers are currently invading Rashemen. We fear their invasion to stretch far and wide, as no one has yet been able to stop them. Not even the armies of Sszas Tam. Sembia wishes to hire part of your forces, the renowned mercenaries of the Flaming Fist, in preparation for the coming conflict. I shall be available to discuss the details, if the Grand Dukes find it reasonable."

Grand Duke Eltan: We will certainly be willing to discuss such a contract in more detail. Will you stay in Baldur's Gate long? We could set up a meeting to discuss terms and prices in the coming days.

Emissary Fesrat Golsithar: Of course your Grace, I shall stay at the Helm and Cloak for a whole month before departing. I am at your service.

Grand Duke Eltan: I will send for you as soon as able. Thank you, emissary.

Grand Narlhelm: Adrian Baker! Of the Bladestone Foundation! You may come forth!

Adrian Baker: Thank you, my Lords and Lady. During the past year there's been an increase in pirate activity all along the Sword Coast. With promises made from both Luskan of more raids to come. Several merchant ships have been harassed since, and some pirate hunter ships have been sunk in skirmishes too. As merchant vessels are now docking at Hope's Landing, the harbour we operate just south of Candlekeep, we wish to know if Your Graces have news to share on efforts to limit such raids, and prevent the loss of life and trade?

Grand Duke Eltan: Matters of security fall down to me. Our fleet has joined forces with Waterdeep's, in the attempt to fight piracy across the southern Sword Coast. We do recognise that is still work in progress: fighting piracy is a neverending battle. But the issue you bring forth is noted. The cooperation with the City of Splendors will hopefully bear more fruits.

Adrian Baker: Thank you, Duke Eltan. Given our position, we may be able to facilitate occasional supply operations to ships and vessels of that joint venture. With your permission, I'll take it up with the rest of the school council, and draft a proposal.

Grand Duke Eltan: You may bring together a proposal and show it to the courtiers, if it is valid it will gain enough support.

Adrian Baker: Thank you. Tymora's Coin land in your favours.

Grand Narlhelm: Coming next, Baeldyn Fardyon, Emissary of Berdusk! Please come forth!

Emissary Baeldyn Fardyon: Your Graces, I bring word from the fair city of Berdusk. Words of problems I am afraid. As you know, the Tunlands, have been used as a shortcut for trade between the Eastern and the Western Heartlands for long. We are facing a sensible decrease in trade traffic due to the rampant activity of the the Bandit Warlord Thaalim Torchtower. Currently assaulting caravans all across the Tunlands. For this reason, the traffic of goods has been affected, and this will likely touch the city of Baldur's Gate.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: We bring in textiles from Cormyr in large measure.

Emissary Baeldyn Fardyon: That is all, your Graces. Berdusk wished to bring word to yourselves so you could make the necessary arrangements.

Grand Narlhelm: Intervention in between topics is not allowed during this session.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Thank you for your words, emissary. We will take heed.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Thank you Emissary. Indeed, most valuable information.

Grand Narlhelm: Edelgarde Spades, Guide of Candlekeep! Please come forth!

Guide Edelgarde Spades: Greetings Your Graces. Candlekeep has nothing to raise to Your Graces' attention today.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Before you go, Guide.

Guide Edelgarde Spades: Yes, Your Grace?

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: We would be most grateful if we could borrow the service of your institution to gather knowledge regarding the spreading substances in our fair City. An appropriate donation shall be offered. What say you?

Guide Edelgarde Spades: We would be most pleased to host your research and provide the necessary assistance.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Very well, Lady Guide. You may go.

Guide Edelgarde Spades: May the First Scribe preserve you.

Grand Narlhelm: Watcher Wai Li of Helm! Representing Nothern Amn, please come forth!

Watcher Wai Li: Thank you your honor. Your Graces of the Council of Four. Thank you for granting Amn's audience in your court today. Amn faces a rebellion and terrorist in the form of a mad and evil arcanist named Tyrelius and other evil users of magic like him. Maguses that stain the name of the arcane. In the course of warfare gainst Tyrelius and others similar, it has brought chaos and destruction to the Trade Way lanes between our countries. Further, dangerous and evil arcanists have attempted to escape Amn's justice by fleeing Amn. Including necromancers and blood mages. Amn therefore requests Baldur's Gate's reasonable security cooperation in combating and apprehending the arcane rebel and traitor Tyrelius and like evil maguses threatening the trade lanes south of Baldur's Gate and otherwise that are mutual threat to Amn and the Gate. Further, if Baldur's Gate was to ever revisit trade policy with Amn since the Amn-Gate War given recent trade challenges expressed today, we are at your service. That is all. Thank you for your time, your graces. I stand for questions, otherwise I will take my seat.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Are you certain your country is only hunting evil arcanists? From my understanding the morality of the arcanist bears little impact on the persecution by your mage hunters.

Watcher Wai Li: Amn's arcane laws hold to account all forms of arcane magic usage without license, but the threats being asked for cooperation against are specifically related to those maguses that are of mutual moral and security threa, Your Grace. Necromancy and blood magic as well as arcane magic used as a method of mass indiscriminate destruction in warfare are all things Baldur's Gate outlaws as well, to my knowledge. I hope that adequately responds, Grand Duchess.

Grand Duke Eltan: All I can say at this stage, Watcher, regarding security, is that while the number of so called refugees is fairly low, one single powerful mage with the wrong intentions can dispatch dozens of lives in minutes. That said, we're not going to take that risk. I would like you to ask your Inquisition to the send profiles of these criminals to the Flaming Fist. We shall act as we see fit, apprehend them if we believe it necessary. That is all.

Watcher Wai Li: Would they be extracted to Amn if captured alive, Your Grace? Or would you intend to try them for crimes in Amn in the Gate instead?

Grand Duke Eltan: There is no current treaty to allow any of the such. If they are apprehended here, for any reason, they shall face the Baldurian Justice system.

Watcher Wai Li: I will inform the Council of Six and the Inquisition as such then. Thank you. I assumed as much. I assume there is no reaction otherwise on the trade topic. If so, I will take my seat. Thank you for your time, Your Graces. Helm Protect and Good Business.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: As of Trade, Watcher, Amn is not on our list of possible trading partners right now. The individual guilds and noble houses may perhaps consider it, but the City will not open a trade treaty with Amn. You may go.

Watcher Wai Li: Thank you, Your Graces.

Grand Narlhelm: Ulzan Gahiji, Lord Magus. Representing the Thayan Enclave! Please come forth!

Lord Magus Ulzan Gahiji: Your Graces. It is with great honour that I stand here today, and though I'd like to raise the matter of our longstanding trade agreement, first I must speak a few words. Since the year 1347, the beautiful city of Baldur's Gate has graciously shared its ground with the Thayan Enclave, in mutually beneficial attempt to thrive, together. After all, what is Trade, or Trading, if not the beating heart of a city? It is a natural, instinctual need of society to share and grow, together. Though my presence is new here, I understand the long history that our beautiful Gate has with my homeland and its efforts in catering to the magical needs of its people. The same happens in Waterdeep, in Calimport, in Scornubel, and in countless cities across the realms. Still, Your Graces, ladies and gentlemen, I'm certain it's burned in your mind the transgressions that my past peers have shamefully inflicted upon this fine city. And though I grace the Council and all the members of this society a thank you for still continuing to allow us to share ground and thrive, I still feel the need to apologise for the past behaviour of my peers. With that, I hope that in the future our decade old treaty flourishes even more as it has been said and will continue to be said, the city faces many issues at the present moment. Threats from the inside and from the outside. As a Diplomat of the Guild of Foreign Trade, handpicked by Mistress of Western Trade Yuzhi Doressini, I offer not just the Council, but the city as a whole, to utilize the resources that the Thayan Enclave makes available.

Grand Duke Belt: Oh my.

Lord Magus Ulzan Gahiji: Starting, but not just, with the increase in very needed magical elixirs and essences during this winter. It is no secret that the Gate has previously suffered with harsh winters and famines, and in an effort to remedy that for decades to come, I humbly affirm that a trade deal will be sent to the office of the great Duke Entar Silvershield, specifying the numbers and ways that we can help the people of this glorious city, by adding a clause to our treaty. Furthermore, that is simply the first step in this new era of the flourishing of our agreement, but I will not bore you nor the rest of this Court with details of things yet to come. I thank you for your time, as always, and would be most delighted to answer any questions.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: You have great confidence with your words, Lord Magus. A fine envoy indeed. That said, the Enclave shall be kept under close scrutinity. We will examine your offer, but we cannot wave away the past with an apology. We will examine the facts. You may go.

Lord Magus Ulzan Gahiji: I'd not expect any less, thank you, Your Graces.

Grand Narlhelm: Fergus Hhune, head of House Hhune. Please come forth!

Lord Fergus Hhune: Your Graces. The topic I bring forth is connected with the issue that the esteemed Emissary of Berdusk has brought forward. The trade traffic from the East. I can say that my business will likely be affected by the coming damages, and I am definitely not alone. I humbly ask your Graces to consider a way to sustain the effort to pacify the Tunlands. I will also add: we all know where the Tunlands stand. We all know they are right under Darkhold. Perhaps their patrols have gone lazy. That is all I have to bring to your Graces on this day. Long Live Baldur's Gate.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Lord Hhune, you are heard.

Grand Narlhelm: Thaddeus Caldwell, head of House Caldwell! Please come forth!

Lord Thaddeus Caldwell: Your Graces! I am most delighted to speak on behalf of my House on this day, although the topic I bring is quite dark. Our City faces an insidious peril, the spreading of harmful substance. Namely the Crimson Spice and the Golden Augury. That said, myself and Lord Aldeth Sashenstar will be sharing our funds with the Flaming Fist so an appropriate investigation can be opened. These substances cannot be allowed to spread any further! I believe, a larger front among the nobles houses will come together. Our City's very soul is in danger, as it might be consumed in ways we can't really stop, if we don't act. That is all, your Graces.

Grand Duke Eltan: Your are heard, Lord Caldwell. The issue is among our priorities. Thank you for your support.

Grand Narlhelm: Suzanne Portyr, of House Portyr! Please come forth!

Lady Suzanne Portyr: Your Graces, as you know House Portyr has a standing history as owners of one of the biggest naval fleets of the City. Mercantile Fleets, specifically. I am, well... Well anyway! I am a merchant and a sailor and I bring you a proposal. Well, given the current situation in Amn, our contacts in the port city of Murann have informed us of an increasing demand in magical items. Mainly scrolls and elixirs, due to many mages being imprisoned or fleeing. The prices of these items in Amn are increasing sensibly, so I ask you for your blessing to bring such goods to Murann, to sell at a high price. It would be on the name of the House alone. I am aware of the standing attrition between Baldur's Gate and Amn so I will not try to turn this into an official trade effort from the City.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Bring me the details and logistics, and I will make a decision.

Lady Suzanne Portyr: I most definitely will, Your Grace!

Grand Narlhelm: Osric Vale, of House Vale! Please come forth!

Lord Osric Vale: Your Graces. It is an honor to stand before this court once more. I speak today on the issue of Crimson Spice; I add my voice to that of Lord Caldwell in condemning its spread. I will forgo elaborating on its effects for it seems Your Graces are well aware of it. I must stress that the Spice is a grave threat to the city, however. It cannot be allowed to run rampant. It encourages to know that Your Graces are already taking steps to better understand these substances as demonstrated by today's overtures to Candlkeep. Even so, I believe we can take further proactive action. To that end, I formally petition that the city should immediately classfiy Crimson Spice as a controlled substance and ban its distribution by unauthorized parties. I further ask leave of Your Graces to form - in conjunction with the Radiant Heart Auxiliary - a special task force to investigate the source of both the Crimson Spice and the Golden Augury. The task force would work in concert and cooperation with the Flaming Fist and City Watch. I am honored to have the support of Houses Caldwell and Lyonaler today and I hope the remaining patriars of this city wills upport us in this endeavor as well; I know that the righteous among us already do. Your Graces, the time to act is now. Every moment spent waiting, the city and its people grow more and more at risk. Your Graces, tell those who profit from this insiidous trade that Baldur's Gate will not allow its citizens to be their prey. Let those whop suffer from the spice's addiction know that the Gate will not abandon them in their hour of need. Yours is the wisdom that leads us all. And it is now that the city needs your wisdom, leadership, and decisive action. Thank you for hearing me, Your Graces. Glory to the Grand Dukes. Glory to Baldur's Gate.

Grand Duke Eltan: Lord Vale. Matters such as this will have to be discussed in detail, I am open your proposal as it is gaining quite the amount of traction. My adviser Moruene will be available to set this task force in motion. As for making the substance regulated, again, that is sensible. We will have to discuss the detail about that too, but surely. That we can do.

Lord Osric Vale: Thank you, Your Grace. By your leave, I will reach out to General Moruene at the earliest opportunity."

Grand Duke Eltan: You may go Lord Vale, and thank you.

Grand Narlhelm: Due to impending, unexpected troubles, we shall put Matron Netanya of House Divine next. Please come forth.

Matron Netanya: A pleasure Your Graces. Amidst the many disconcerting threats facing the Ducal Realm I wish to humbly depart from these matters to discuss a domestic legal matter. In the wake of the “Lord” Forseeth matter last year, House Divine wishes to propose the establishment of a legal framework to protect the unique works and creations of craftsmen from duplication without the expressed and written consent of the original creator of the work as such no such legal framework exist in current Ducal Law. I gather many craftsmen would favor such a legal framework. Mr. Thatcher, renowned shipwright, has already offered his endorsement of such a framework, as such, House Divine shall submit a formal proposal to the Palace in the coming days for the consideration of Your Graces.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Well I can understand why the craftsmen would seek such protection. I will examine your proposal, Matron. I suppose the trading guilds will have to tell us exactly what they wish to protect and enforce it in their own field, but yes, please do send your proposal.

Matron Netanya: I shall your Your Grace. Thank You.

Grand Narlhelm: Lord Aaron Lyonaler, Grand Knight of the Radiant Heart! Please come forth.

Lord Aaron Lyonaler: Your Graces. I lend my voice to the proposal by Lord Vale. In addition to funds towards this effort to investigate the source of these new drugs, gold will also be set aside for the recovery of those effected by the negative effects of these drugs. The people should be supported as they work off the addictions to these drugs, in order to mainatin employment, trade, and prosperity of the City. I will keep my words brief in an effort to save time, and leave it at that, for now.

Grand Duke Belt: We are happy to have the Radiant Heart's support, dealing with this issue.

Grand Duke Eltan: Indeed, thank you, Lord Lyonaler.

Grand Narlhelm: Lord Aldeth Sashenstar and his nephew, Lord Dabron Sashenstar! Please come forth!

Lord Aldeth Sashenstar: Your Graces, we are honoured to speak on this day. While we appreciate and join in the sentiment against the spreading drugs I do bring a different topic to yourselves. My nephew, Dabron brought great wealth and glory to the City, a few years back. After the discovery of the far away land of Sossal this year, he is planning a second trade expedition that will bring, hopefully, even more glory and prosperity to our City. If I may let him speak for himself.

Grand Duke Belt: Please do. Speak, Dabron.

Lord Dabron Sashenstar: Thank you, your Graces. A trade caravan shall depart in Spring, we will take a ship and rally in Waterdeep. Depart to the East from there.

Grand Duke Belt: Sossal is in the far East, is it not? What about these Tuigan hordes?

Lord Dabron Sashenstar: Unfortunately that is not something we anticipated but it is well noted, we will make the necessary arrangements to avoid them. As a servant of the Rider of the Winds, I am compelled to bring this mission forward. With His protection, we shall not fail.

Grand Duke Belt: Very well. I suppose you have the blessing of all of us. Mine for certain.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Indeed. Thank you, Dabron.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Do come back safely, young Dabron.

Lord Aldeth Sashenstar: Your Graces.

Lord Dabron Sashenstar: Your Graces.

Grand Narlhelm: Sister Ashenie, of the Temple of Ilmater. Please come forth!

Sister Ashenie Darakh: Your Graces Grand Dukes of the Council of Four, the Shrine of the Suffering wishes to share concern today about the lasting torment that afflicts the population of Baldur's Gate. While there are few words to describe the horror of the mosaic of suffering that grows, especially within the Lower City, its effects has been so vividly felt that the vulnerability of the population has reached heights, in times of Winter, with all the dire consequences that homelesness implies. As the addicition spreads further, it may take all of what individual cherish, and have, to fulfill this need to have this substance. When money is not enough, services are traded in turn. The nature of such services applied to women, when they have nothing left, when they are captives of dark network, and black economy, is beyond what decency allows to speak in this court. I do trust that any woman present here could feel the violation and the deseparation that such situation implies. But when similar consequences touch men, another layer an unspeakable shame lingers, and led them further in isolation. Breaking individuals, breaking famililes. The horror of such situation, as it if it would not be enough, does not stop there. When such violences result in captivity, in services that imply obedience, violence, association with ceaseless torment to just gain an addictive reward, it further nurtures the feeling that there is no possible return to what could be so called "a normal life." And to crown this terrible situation, when such situations result in unwanted pregnancies, when children are forced to witness, to partake, or are abused in such circumstances, it is not only their well being that is at sake. It is the future of our society. Those children, vulnerable to the behaviors of adults, will find themselves marked by a suffering that may torment them for the rest of the lives. The condition of the population is not only alarming, it betrays a deep suffering that has gained our city. While the proposed soluions are admirables, and I do not doubt, will regulate the distribution of such substances, the question is "Why were they needed?" Why, in as city as Baldur's Gate, the simple introduction of two substances can lead to such circumstances that seal lives into torment and despair, so that death is experienced as a lesser consequence: a deliverance? Without doubt, and with the many and generous means offered to the cause, this crisis will be solved. But when will the next come? How many people will have to endure, to suffer, to die in the cold? How many children will fill the ossuary before we can prevent such situation from happening again? How can a man, a woman and most of all a child be exposed to any horror of such kind in Baldur's Gate? The Shrine of Suffering has, and will, keep caring for this cause. But the underlying motive remains unmended. So here is the question I wish to share with you today. How can we weave a social taspestry of care solid enough, so none in Baldur's Gate may ever suffer such a fate again? How can we spare children these terrible harms?

[Most of those present applaud]

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Thank you so much for your words, Revered Sister. I pray all of us here will make our very best efforts to aid those who suffer as the Revered Sister describes. As such, is there anything in particular you would request of those gathered here today?

Sister Ashenie Darakh: I do thank you for your words. An answer, followed by concrete actions might paint upon the horizon a hope in which the people could believe. There have been similar words, similar courts, similar suffering in the recent past, and still, today, people suffer as yesterday. While they may hope with each court that an answer will be provided, they might feel disheartened, as the same suffering keeps striking them, and their relatives. All of these are not just words. While we are speaking, people are dying. People are beaten. People are abused. People are looking for those substance. All of that for what purpose? So I would ask again: How can we collectively weave a social tapestry solid enough to ensure that such horror do not strike the population again?

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Preventing crime, such as the smuggling and spreading of this Crimson Spice, as well as the violence that follows such illegal trade, is an ever-present challenge. We will ensure the City Guard has all the means necessary to keep the population safe.

Grand Duke Eltan: Thank you for your words, Revered Sister. I shall say, as responsible for security and lawkeeping that what you ask is a wide effort, as you know, a mix of uncountable factors. Although the City has faced many challenges and problems in recent history clearly we are failing as a system, somewhere. The current crisis clearly tells that we failed to address this issue, at its source the Justice system, security, the very culture of this City clearly we have to identify the areas where we are the weakest and address them. I am willing to open up to a further analysis. If you have identified critical points that you believe we should address, we shall hear from you in the future. That is all, Revered Sister.

Sister Ashenie Darakh: Many reports and propositions have been shared. I do hope that your guidance and leadership will help the population through these dark moments, and set a direction for all to unite in harmony. Thank you for your consideration, and your words for the people.

Grand Duke Belt: Grand Narlhelm?

Grand Narlhelm: Oh! Of course! Sinoc of Helm! Represeting the Temple of Helm! Please come forth.

Sinoc Haven: Your Graces, the Everwatch of the temple of Helm in Baldur's Gate has no subject to raise.

Grand Duke Eltan: Very well Sinoc. Thank you.

Grand Narlhelm: Thalamond Albaier, High Artificier of Gond! Please come forth!

High Artificier Thalamond Albaier: Your Graces. Every year, while the Chiontar is frozen we strive to do maintenance of the cranes and engineering facilities all around the City's docks. Our work proceeds well, and we do not foresee any issues for the coming Spring. Same to be said about the maintenance of our sewer system, although passage in the underbelly of the City is often problematic. Lastly, I must inform you that we are working on a new project. Financed by the Overseer of the Iron Throne. A new crane, to load and unload particularly large and heavy cargo from our docked ships. Siege weapons, Your Graces. We believe a prototype shall be ready soon. This new crane should bring benefits to all trade operations, hopefully.

Grand Duke Eltan: Very well, thank you High Artificier. The new technology shall indeed be useful, as for the Siege Weapons we'll keep the matter directed to the one who will bring them to our City. Thank you, High Artificier. You may go.

Grand Narlhelm: Lady Charisa Flomeigne, representing the Chalice of Siamorphe! Please come forth!

Lady Charisa Flomeigne: Siamorphes graces upon you, honourable Grand Dukes, and to your people. Your Grace, first on behalf Waterdeep, we offer gratitude for the joining of the campaign against the allied pirates, and pray to swift conclusion. We were honored, when you saw to join us. There are a number of concerns shared from Waterdeep, when the ice breaks. Waterdeep believes there are signs that as soon trade is free to flow the rivers, the Roaring Shores pirates will take advantage of the campaign northward, leaving the Tradeway as the only safer option. Even if the campaign ends previently with success, ships will be in repair. Waterdeep is still in recovery from the Lord of Bones and his legions, even if the dusted remains were blown over Blackstaff Tower. In light of concerns in trade, and those presented to court today, I would suggest a closer partnership over coming year with opportunities coming, when the nobles of Waterdeep travel south for winter. Moreso, because there will have to be more opportunities granted befitting the people of this city. It appears the covenant of leadership had been bent if not broken with the disasters that befell you. The faith of its citizens towards the nobles have been shaken, promises were broken in recent years. Moreso you would have to remember that for all the transgressions nobles may have done, where they were derelict or untoward the very people they rule over; the people have kept a faith with you. And barely. There are realms, where all of these sins by nobles had been remembered. Even if they weren’t of their own making. It did not matter. Tethyr stands as a shining example, of what not to do. Nobility is obligated to avoid a position, where one begs the upper planes for their graces, argueing the righteousness of a lavish life, standing before the grieving father to a starved son may have stayed his hand had he but heard one more loving word. How many grains of wheat could have stayed his hand, for the sake of his child or the others. And now even the spoken of Golden Augury. When coin of the city is bargained to a source you know naught of, let alone to be blind to the intentions towards you or the citizens of Baldurs Gate – one more piece of its future is gambled away – for a bit of manufactured bliss or delusion. For a grasp for a sense of novelty in a blessed life. This cannot go on, Your Grace. The trust has to be rebuilt. If cohesion is to remain gesture offered forthrightly, that the people of the city, downtrodden by their conditions can build upon. For a future more then the one in the morrow, but for their descendants. A man who can't trust a future they build towards, will only look to the most recent day. One they survive. We are educated, we have means, our voices carry. Decisions have been levied to us. They will count on you.

Grand Duke Eltan: Lady Flomeigne. While I appreciate your holy duties compel you to offer guidance. I believe that, from one who has been far from our City and wasn't even here to see some of those struggles I must say that your words fall rather empty, and if I must say, rude. I won't say that we are beyond making mistakes but I won't take lessons from a woman that was very far away from here and has no right to criticise. On top of that, you bring no solution to your forementioned issues. If you want to help stay, help us, and we shall hear from you again.

Lady Charisa Flomeigne: I intend to stay, your Grace with your blessing, as long as the issues remain at hand.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Very well. You may go.

Grand Narlhelm: Rhaeg. Is it just Rhaeg? Rhaeg, yes. Representing the Commons! Come forth!

Rhaeg of the Commons: Can I go ahead, then?

Grand Duke Belt: Indeed, Rhaeg. Please go ahead.

Rhaeg of the Commons: As might not be unexpected considering the significance, the Commons have beseeched me to speak regarding the Substance Epidemic. The Revered Sister conveyed a whole hell of a lot better than I could about the vagarities of what substances such as the Crimson Spice can wreak when in short supply. And as someone who himself once was a victim to a hopelessly addictive substance in his life, I'd say she explained that whole aspect of the whole thing real adequately. I do have to take particular objection to the notion that the factors at hand are "uncountable". One could say, if you'll excuse the expression, that the matter at hand is "so easy an orcblood could do it. I'll illustrate some of those factors. What's known for certain about the Crimson Spice is that it provides an improved ability to ward off fatigue, aid in concentration, and in the economic and material senses, improve productivity. More bottom line. Working backwards - And again, as someone who himself once turned to a completely different drug for a different reason - one can work backwards to extrapolate that this productivity appeals to a market of Baldurian laborers. Being that said laborers and working folk tend to directly translate their output and "bottom line" to secure their lot in life - For what it's often worth - that's the draw of the drug in the first place, before factoring in any bodily dependencies.
Now, because there are a limited number of both jobs upon which these working folk can compete over, essentials such as food and shelter, and now a finite supply of this new dependency in question, yes, Duke Eltan, you're spot-piking-on that there's a failure somewhere. Or at least, about halfway there. The Crimson Spice has neatly slotted itself as a godsdamned performance-enhancer that rewards those who can access it either "legally" or by other methods of varying degrees of savoriness - Versus those who "have not" such means. Such a thing wouldn't be possible were the draws to the average Baldurian of something to help alleviate - among other things - labor, who portion of the total value the laborer themselves is allotted is dependent on output that the Spice augments; food, shelter, often paid either to a landlord or whomever holds said property's mortgage, clothing, emergency or travel expesnses, and only after all that, finally, "personal use" for leisure or otherwise. Now, you want suggestions, Duke Eltan. Actions to be taken. There is only so much the likes of myself has the power to fairly suggest or even do, given the decorum and laws of your city. But I can assure you of a couple things, regarding this Spice. Avenues from which to start proverbially digging. Firstly someone is profiting from it. And I don't mean the comparatively meager gains the aforementioned laborer might find from its use and abuse. I mean someone, or something, standing to compound that profit immeasurably.

Grand Duke Eltan: To the point please.

Rhaeg of the Commons: Alright then. The point is that it's a wonder something like this hasn't happened a lot sooner, given the fact the drug preys upon Work Ethic. As for my part, I'll be investigating it personally, and will be reaching out to work with the Revered Sister and Temple of Ilmater where possible, and where their talents would be far better suited than mine. Would you like me to relay anything to the Commons, regarding your plans? They're awaiting Your Graces with bated breath.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Thank you for your words, Rhaeg. In order for us to determine a course of action, could you ask the Commons to put together a list of suggestions to disincentivise the use of the drug?

Rhaeg of the Commons: Yes. I can try. Mind you, being many if not most may not have the educated finer grasps on socioeconomic vagarities and their consequences, I can give their verbatim suggestions with some annotations in the proverbial margins.

Grand Duke Belt: That will do, Rhaeg. They may lack a wider vision but their insight comes from the closest point of view to the issue we can find. Their input is valuable.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: I trust you to coordinate this matter adequately, Rhaeg.

Rhaeg of the Commons: I suppose that would be it from me.

Grand Duchess Liia Jannath: Thank you.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: Thank you Rhaeg, you may go back your seat.

Grand Narlhelm: Terence Haelwing, Iron Throne Overseer! Please come forth!

Lord Terence Haelwing: Your Graces. As we approach the end of this session I won't keep you for long. As mentioned by the High Artificier, and as we discussed before this session, it is my intention to bring more arms, namely siege weapons to this City. Although we are facing a logistical challenge. As we cannot currently take the route through the Tunlands, we must move south and reconnect to the Chiontar through Iriaebor, making our transfer of goods slower and more expensive. I join the sentiment of Berdusk, and Lord Hhune, asking you to consider action to sustain pacification of the Tunlands. The Iron Throne makes itself available to support you, should you decide to do it. I hope our relationship will keep being fruitful in the future. Thank you.

Grand Duke Eltan: Very well, Overseer. Your struggles with the eastern trade route are noted, as well as your proposed support.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: This issue will probably hit us come spring if we do not act.

Grand Duke Eltan: Thank you Overseer. You may go.

Grand Narlhelm: Rose Wintertal, representing the Phoenix Company! Please come forth!

Rose Wintertal Your Graces, it's an honor to be here. I was considering to start my tiny little speech with an aneddote, like "allowing the bear pets in, but it didn't feel proper. I considered also to bring an aneddote about a brave kid. A kid who faced a wolf and died, outside Baldurian territory, all to save a family, while fate toyed with him, giving him poison instead of a cure, because of a Talonite priest. Or perhaps, of the greatest heroes of Amn, the Inquisition, whose bravery spans to defeat the greatest enemies of all: children of five years old, who use magic to help family grow crops. But this isn't why the Phoenix Company is here. Today, we are here to promote our desire, once more, to suggest to help the locals to hire apprentices, giving tax credit to businesses investing in the training of the young, specifically in artisanal fields - and with the assistance of the Temples that are present today, right here, to follow contests and give awards to whoever produces the best invention. Wether it is technological, by Gond's desire, or magical, by Mystra's designs. This is but the beginning, but I believe Baldur's Gate excels in art, and we should be renown for this in the years to come - if we decide to work together. The Phoenix Company will try to help however we can in this endeavour. If you have questions, I'm at your disposal.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: I have seen your proposal in detail previously. I, personally speaking, believe that it would be feasible in its entirety as it requires expenses that I don't see us being able to cover, but the guilds and the Noble Houses have many capable economists among them. I shall let them appraise your full proposal and come back to me. You may share it across the city, across those who would be able to observe it critically. They might prove me wrong. We will see.

Rose Wintertal Absolutely, Your Grace. The strength of Baldur's Gate lies, afterall, in unity. And even if we will not be able to perform it all at once, it can still be performed a piece at a time. I am confident that this city will be able to grow, hopefully with the help of the economists around town. Thank you. If there's no other question, I would return to my seat.

Grand Duke Entar Silvershield: You may go thank you.

Grand Narlhelm: As I can see, all others present have no topic to share. With your permission, Your Graces, I would call the Court adjourned.

Grand Duke Belt: Thank you all for coming. This has been an enlightening evening.

Grand Narlhelm: The Duchal Court is adjourned!"

The Great Spine
Aberrant Blood Moon

by Nailya Gazieva

Early Tarsakh 1360 DR the annual 10 days of blood moon appeared along the Sword Coast, specifically concentrated in its consequences around The Arms Inn’s nearby wilderness that is Cloakwood and Sharpwood. The following is a collection of at the time verifiable facts and some conjecture, which will be clearly marked as to not confuse the two with remarks such as, seems as, may be, supposedly or otherwise wording that is not a simple factual statement. The text will focus on a particular entity called The Great Spine, the name documented by myself during a spearpoint interrogation of a gnoll participating in the Hunt.

Foreword

The Blood Moon appears four times a year around Faerun and often referred to as The Hunt, a holy celebration of the Beastlord. A Huntsmaster, a champion of the Beastlord, is appointed to lead a savage hunt of whoever is unfortunate enough to reside within the hunting grounds. Slaying the Huntsmaster before the 10 days are over seems to have no impact on it, as a new one is appointed.

This isn’t entirely verifiable by myself as the suspected initial Huntsmaster seemed to be a great Worg capable of speech and magic. Whether the title was passed on to The Great Spine or the Great Spine was the Huntsmaster all along remains unclear. It is worth noting that the Hunt did end upon the Great Spine’s defeat.

A second aspect that may occur during this time is the so-called High Hunt. This is when the Huntsmaster appoints a, usually powerful, quarry. Serving as an example and record, the Arch-druid of the Green Enclave, Emmanuel, was appointed such. The Mark had been inflicted by the great Worg as the Arch-druid fell in battle against it, subsequently dragged of and performed foul ritual magics on.

As the Arch-druid explained, he had thus 24 hours to survive against being actively hunted. If he could do so, he would earn the respect of the Hunt and the Beastlord, for all future left alone by the Hunt itself. Later it was reported to me that the Arch-druid had not managed to survive, though his soul and subsequently life was saved narrowly. Details of such I regard unimportant for the context of this document.

Initial Encounter

The following is based on an account by Shevarra, my guardian. Roughly in the middle of the 10-day period, a flayed and skinned dead bear was found near a common passage into Cloakwood. Initial investigation supported the idea that the flaying had happened before its death, during which a blighted, centipede-like crawler with tentacles for all extremities, burst from its abdominal area.

The creature, henceforth referred to as “Aberrant Crawler(s)”, due to their resemblance of Carrion Crawlers. It was killed, revealing that its blood is of an acidic, highly toxic variety, dark as onyx. The fumes from burning the creature also reportedly caused light-headedness. As the Aberrant Crawler bled, a circle of blighted earth and plant life kept expanding around it until it was extensively burned, and the area consecrated by a Priest of Valkur known as Ryke.

It was around this time that I entered the scene, watching the blood spread and the consequent burning and consecration. An unknown to me mage proceeded to scry into Cloakwood in hopes of detecting where the bear corpse had come from by following the blight and blood alike. What was reportedly witnessed then was described as a huge abomination comprised of multitude of body parts, flesh, and amalgams of the very Aberrant Crawler.

Noteworthy is that despite no obvious use of magic, at least that was reported by the mage, the creature later identified as The Great Spine, noticed the scrying which caused the mage to terminate it. Zel, a tiefling mage, had reported that during their investigation of the first Aberrant Crawlers body it had been determine that it held traces of divine essence and that it was likewise twisted by divine essence. Given the nature of the Aberrant Crawlers, I will refer to the divine essence as “Profane”.

Second Encounter

Given its size and the trail of corpses, blood, and blight the Great Spine left behind myself and Shevarra decided that some aerial scouting would be likely to yield results despite the vast and sprawling nature of Cloakwood. Sheverra’s ability to shift forms was of particular benefit as it allowed her to turn into a Wyvern. Thus, with that and some application of invisibility on us both, we began by flying to the rough centre of Cloakwood to circle out from there.

It did not take us long to notice felled trees, then the blight and blood in the south-western section. Our approach was careful as we remained in the air, finally arriving alongside a river where we saw a multitude of the Aberrant Crawlers. At the time they were spewing the tarlike substance that seems to also be their blood into the river, the effect of which was gradual but noticeable as aquatic like began to float up.

During the third encounter we concluded that the substance is a paralytic poison with traces of small quills that can be found on the Aberrant Crawlers. The Great Spine having much larger such. The Crawlers would then gather any fish, frogs, or anything else affected by the paralysis and bring it towards that which we were ourselves tracking.

At the time it resided by a sizable pond, perhaps half the size of the inside of Arms Inn walls, if such a reference might be of use. However, we did not see it immediately as it was inside of a large mound of bodies, skins, and meat. There were additional Aberrant Crawlers around the pond. We held our position in the air, choosing to observe for an opportunity to act or to collect more useful information.

At this point one of the Aberrant Crawlers approached the mound with an animal carcass, upon which a spindly, unproportionally long and flayed arm reached out from inside of it and snatched the Aberrant Crawler and carcass both. A pitched wailing followed as it is safe to assume the Aberrant Crawler was killed or otherwise consumed alongside the carcass.

We had likewise observed the Aberrant Crawlers seed the pond with larvae like spawn. Me and Shevarra had decided that we should return to the Arms Inn and the involved adventurers, though not before attempting to sabotage the Great Spine in some manner within our capabilities.

I decided to channel what I estimated to be a proportionate amount of cold energy of the Frostfell in the form of repeated castings of the 9th Circle of Magic called Burst of Glacial Wrath, to freeze the pond down to the bottom. Thus, we would at the very least decrease the amount of possible spawn, slowing down what could be a critical mass in terms of mass propagation.

My method proved draining but effective, with each cast the pond froze deeper and deeper, to the frantic scratching and shrieks of the larvae inside. By the 6th casting, the pond had gone entirely silent. That is when Shevarra noticed that the mound had collapsed and The Great Spine was nowhere we could see.

A quill the size of a ballista bolt narrowly missed us, fired from somewhere among the trees followed by a shrieking wail and the abomination speaking. I quote possibly verbatim, as it is the words I and Shevarra agreed upon that we heard. “Maggots unfit for skinning. Babies must rest, must sleep.” As it remained in place while we made for a frantic escape towards the Arms Inn. Here we would hurry to relay our findings to others as to best equip the general adventuring populace for when the time came to face it. An important note is that it would have appeared to aim directly at Shevarra, who was in the shape of a Wyvern and invisible at the time.

Third Encounter

A Day later, me and Shevarra returned to the popular gathering spot that is the campsite just down the road from the gates of the Arms Inn, fire blazing in the nearby bushes. Asking for an explanation, we were told that the body of a half-elf with a wyvern head attached to it and full of smaller aberrant crawlers had been flung out of the forest before landing hard next to them. It had then risen and attempted to attack them, the result of which is when we entered the scene.

We relayed the yesterday’s findings to those present who had yet not heard them, speculating that given the half-elven body and wyvern head, this could be a message for me and Shevarra. This was met with some inconsequential disagreement before a decision was made to travel into Cloakwood to the site of the frozen pond to investigate.

The journey there was initially relatively normal until we came across a river fed from nearby the pond, fishes floating side up in it. This is where we properly verified the nature of the paralytic poison and the presence of tiny quills in the water. We continued to push on until we neared the river by the pond and witnessed a large contingent of adult Aberrant Crawlers, spewing more of the poison into the water.

Using the element of surprise, we attacked the first wave of the Aberrant Crawlers to then follow with a staggered advance to the pond in battling many more. It was during this time I also managed to finally conduct a proper experiment with Holy Water and their toxic blood, having suspected that the profanely twisted essence of the Aberrant to be cleansed by it. The blood and blight was completely burned away by the powerful concentration of Holy Water, though the bodies of the Aberrant Crawlers were unaffected.

We finally arrived at the frozen pond only to find The Great Spine missing, instead there were signs of a ritual sacrifice with three bodies and a message written in large letters in blood, “WRONG FOREST”. Attempts were made to consecrate the area and to resurrect the fallen individuals, however the latter proved unsuccessful for unverifiable reasons.

Investigation of the immediate area provided little, and a mage present decided to begin casting the 9th Circle of Magic called Hindsight. Given the casting time of the spell, we all spread out to make sure they remained undisturbed as more Aberrant Crawlers could attack us. Before the mage could finish casting it, they received a Sending that they immediately relayed to us: Doron Amar was being sieged by Gnolls.

We teleported away within moments to right by the gates of Doron Amar moments before the assault began. With the support from the rangers behind the walls, we successfully held their bridge and beat them back into the forest. There an even larger contingent of gnolls assaulted us from multiple directions as we observed a cabal of casters to be performing a Gate ritual. At this point a few elves had joined us in the assault and despite our best efforts we did not manage to reach the ritual and interrupt it.

The Gate opened to the Abyss and Tanar’ri began spilling out, bolstering the gnoll forces. Further, a Nalfashnee emerged from the Gate and joined the attack, putting our collective forces on the backfoot for some time. I can provide scant notes of how exactly the battle was done given that I was doing my best not to get slain by demons at the time.

The Nalfashnee fell at last and only remnants remained of the demons and gnolls. While I was the first to make it to the Gate, I lacked the necessary magic to do much about it. We quickly determined that the 6th Circle of Magic called Seal Portal was needed to close the already active Gate. Hinzel, a tiefling scout, managed to acquire one within a relatively short time frame as we battled a sudden reinforcement of gnolls.

With the Gate closed, the adventurers and elves of Doron Amar briefly regrouped before most, including myself and Shevarra, returned to the Arms Inn. Though not before we heard The Great Spine cackling somewhere within the forest, out of sight and would remain such. There were no losses that I am aware of and any roaming contingent of demons that had escaped the battle was reportedly hunted down by Doron Amar within Sharpwood.

Fourth Encounter and Defeat

The following is a mix of accounts from people who had heard the results of the battle second hand or had been there for some part of it. Thus, I unfortunately not offer reliable information and have done my best to track down those who could. However, Doron Amar’s stance on racial matters has rendered me unable to ask any of the elves who were there. I have asked some to see if they could get the information on my behalf but after a week of trying, I have decided that I will rather submit a second edition of my documents than wait any longer.

What reportedly defeated The Great Spine was, as is often the case, an overwhelming amount of brute and magical force by a sufficiently large contingent. The only additional information that was found out, was the report that the creature cried out for the Beastlord as it died, finally confirming its previously uncertain origins.

Unfortunately, two adventurers by the name of Celestia and Sett’e had unleashed enough fire magic to set the forest ablaze which served to both wash away anything that could be studied of The Great Spine and took an additional concerted effort to manage. I name these two at the strongly encouraged suggestion by a few of those who were present to witness the fire.

Aftermath

At this point we had hoped that the crisis of the Aberrant Blood Moon had ceased given that the hunt was finally over and the Great Spine defeated. The unease some felt given how quickly the Great Spine propagated the Aberrant Crawlers would prove to be warranted in the following days. Outside the gates of the Arms Inn, just on the road, a small hole had suddenly opened with some immense pressure that made rocks and earth shoot into the air.

The air had a sick, sulphurous smell to it and the hole itself seemed to go rather deep yet was no wider than you could fit a large dog inside. A mage by the name of Layla proceeded to first drop an explosive metal sphere down the hole with the Cantrip of Light cast on it only for it to disappear so deeply we could not see it.

This was followed by another similar device though with choking smoke, which was activated just before being thrown down. Not much later, a jet of flame erupted from the hole and stayed burning long enough to sing a song or two. Finally, a local adventurer known as Rat, shapeshifted into one and was lowered by rope by Isabella of Candlekeep to investigate.

Despite almost choking on the fumes below, Rat reported seeing an abnormally large umber hulk and hearing the chittering of many more. Once a companion of Layla’s, Eowarion, reported our finds to the Arms Inn, he was encouraged to deal with the issue.

Those mentioned with the addition of another adventurer by the name of Sorin, we all were transported down using the 4th Circle of Magic called Dimension Door. Arriving in a sizable tunnel yet without directly encountering the aforementioned hulks. This proved to be short-lived as we came across a veritable horde of them together with what was indeed an abnormally large specimen. I did not detail the exact amount at the time, but my rough estimate would be between 20 and 30.

We continued to investigate what showed to be a large tunnel network and came across what must have been the Umber Hulk alfa’s treasure spot. What we also found was another hole about the same size, though with traces of small quills which I collected to the best of my ability. The hole was exposed to roughly ten vials worth of incredibly potent Alchemist Fire and put a rock on top. While we did not believe it would serve much of a function, there is the proverb of “better safe than sorry”.

Closing Remarks

This concludes my document of collected reports and largely my and Shevarra’s own experiences. It is possible that the threat is not truly over which made the need for this document all the great. We can summarize that the profane origin of these aberrant creatures is susceptible to holy energies, given the interaction with holy water.

During this time, I also heard a few unverifiable reports of that the Great Spine could shapeshift. Its ability for stealth despite its height that I estimate to be anywhere between 36 and 54 feet. An accurate estimate remains impossible as my account was from atop a wyvern during dusk and then it was completely destroyed before anyone else made the attempt, far as I can find.

Lastly I will go over any names of those I know to have been present for any of the encounters, should the reader want to reach out to those people themselves and get accounts.

Ashenie, an Illmateri priestess found in Baldur’s Gate.
Caleb El Shaddai, a male Zakharan usually seen outside Arms Inn.
Celestia, a moon elf wizardess found at Candlekeep.

Shevarra, rashemi female.

Kossuthian Gnolls

by Nailya Gazieva

23rd Tarsakh 1360 DR

The following is based mainly on my own personal observations but also things mentioned by those present, mainly in providing further context. During the midday of the title name, myself, Linetheil the Seer (henceforth “Seer”), Cyllin Skaeva the Paladin of Deneir (henceforth “Paladin”) and a few others who would not be present for the rest of my accounts conversed outside of the Friendly Arms Inn. A male dwarf that would remain unintroduced approached the drawbridge and appeared rather flustered, bordering on enraged.

A brief inquiry followed as the dwarf explained that he had come across gnolls south of the Arms Inn who, rather than fight him as was his desire, instead simply fled in a hurry. Even chasing them, the gnolls got away. Irrelevant small talk later, the dwarf headed inside of the inn while the rest of us decided to investigate, initiative taken by the paladin.

At this point, the Seer mentioned that it might be something similar that she encountered in the Flower Fields, south of Uldon Trails. That these could be the same ex-Thayan gnoll escapees, lead by a very scarred and burned grayish gnoll. With this insight, we proceeded south just over the stone bridge at the fork further south and west to Candlekeep.

We found a large campsite, abandoned in a hurry and full of gnoll tracks and single pair of heavy boots, likely the dwarf. The paladin found a small bone, crudely carved in the shape of a flame while the Seer communed with the land with the intent of learning what had happened and as to best track the creature.

At this point, Ryke the Valkuryte Priest (henceforth “Priest”) joined us by mere chance and was briefly appraised of the situation and our goals which had now become to make contact with these supposedly Kossuthite and less hostile gnolls to explore the veracity of it.

I am no cartographer, neither do I see a necessity as of this document to point to their exact location as by the time this might be relevant the gnolls will either have moved, been eradicated or become known as an entity to not destroy on sight. I will mention that we travelled roughly one day east from our aforementioned location to the landmark of a very tall stone spire covered in moss.

On a nearby hill south of the landmark, we heard the noises of encampment and arguing gnolls. Which can be described as cackling and barking. A brief moment of deliberation followed as the Priest considered to scry the encampment with the intent of learning about the status of it and the gnolls. However, before we could proceed we spotted what appeared to be a gnoll hunter hunting rabbits to the west of us.

This initiated clumsy but successful attempts at communication, primarily aided by the Paladin showing the “Flame” carving. The citation spoken by the gnoll in rather broken common and further it mentioned Gnarclaw Skorlan which the Seer recognized and a few awkward words later the gnoll hunter made a gesture for us to wait as they hurried towards the settlement. A small while later, silence fell upon it as we continued to wait.

Further time passed before we saw a particular gnoll come from the direction of the encampment with a well-armed and armored guard contingent. The gnoll fit the description of Gnarclaw Skorlan (henceforth Skorlan), an elderly, grayish, and large gnoll with many old scars and healed burned over most of their body. Their eyes the milky white denoting blindness. Skorlan made a gesture for the guard contingent to wait behind as it seemed to recognize the Seer by scent and approached us alone with the Seer coming to meet them first, both clearly not weary of each other. It should be noted that Skorlan speaks fluent common.

The following will be a mix of a retelling and direct quotations of Skorlan where I felt they were relevant to note down. Once polite greetings were made, the Seer called the Paladin forth to lead the conversation onward with scattered commentary from myself, the Priest and Seer. The first point of conversation was relaying our discoveries thus far, which prompted the response of:

Gor’tek strikes out on another of his lone journeys? Fool. He is not taught by wound.” After which we explain that it was a whole party rather than a single gnoll and the news are met with clear exasperation. Skorlan then explains that his people are “Misguided” and “Hungering” followed by the words:

The Flame struggles to feed that Hunger, or to quell it. Skorlan and Rhulg (gnoll chieftan) died by the Flame and rose by the Flame. We drag Gnoll from Manlings who would ensnare [ ... ].” Afterwards confirming that he spoke of the Red Wizards of Thay upon my inquiry of such, confirming the ex-Thayan status of the tribe. His words continue:

We wanted a way outside of Hunger. But the other Tribes, they do not know the struggle we faced in Thay. They were not born in the Flame.” Which prompted us to ask how they had managed to travel so far and given the answer of:

By the Flame, spirits made known. By Spirit, warning was given. Avoiding manlings when wecould.” The presence of a Spirit Guide was later confirmed by Shevarra my Guardian, who had caught up to us but stayed out of sight until we would come to teleport away. She could however not identify the true nature of the spirit, only that one was present with Skorlan.

At this point there are clear signs of tensions among the guard contingent and in the settlement, though it initially goes uncommented on. Skorlan continues to speak after the Paladin’s question of why they would avoid Manlings:

Tribe that lashes out before grown strong will never live long enough to realize that strength. Younger minds are reckless. They did not se the swarms rendered by dark magic. Bodies torn apart by golem. The young feel only Hunger and the Rush of blood. I lose control of them. Chief Rhulg, begins to disagree with me.

The tensions are commented on at this point as one of the guards approach to speak in gnoll with Skorlan, speaking how Chief Rhulg wants him to return and Skorlan making it clear that he will return when he decides to do so. Telling the “pup” to not test him as he raised said pup from birth. Said pup them backed off and we all agreed that it was time we moved on but not before the Paladin asked what they would do with said “Power” once they had it.

Skorlan explains that they will either return to Thay to fight the Red Wizards and free more of their people or that they will simply seek a new home. My impression was that the latter insinuated a peaceful existence. The paladin offers to bring books on animal husbandry, which is where Skorlan explains his blindness, but that once upon a time he did read many books. The paladin offers to come read but one more we are pressed to start moving by the tension. Offers of future aid are given but Skorlan explains that unlike him, chief Rhulg does not trust manlings in the slightest. Even so, the offer of assistance is made and we make to leave, Shevarra finally appearing before us as she had been noticed by Skorlan and subsequently pointed out.

The following is a conjecture of my collective impressions of the exchange. The majority of the gnoll contingent are faithful to Kossuth or as they call him “The Flame” yet not all, seemingly the younger generation, as are as humbled by the experiences in Thay the elders have. The Tribe continues to balance precariously on their conviction to not overindulge in the Hunger and able to subsist on meat from hunts, avoiding eating sapient creatures.

There is however insinuation that they could be slipping, which would be accelerated should the Tribe come under threat. Given the obvious lack of trust towards non-gnolls, any assistance that would be rendered has to be approached with the greatest caution and humility. The goal of such accepted by the Paladin and the Myradon Vindicators alike.

This discovery of gnolls attempting to grow beyond their primal instincts is as monumental historically as it is groundbreaking in the context of studying society and cultures. Whether or not this attempt is successful, the records of it must be kept as an example of the sheer possibility. Consider this the first edition of what I hope will be a series of documentation revolving the Tribe. At the very least I will release a second one detailing their demise should such come to pass.

A Pinch of Oth
A truthful Rhyme by S. Ravenpath
############################

There was once a strange elf named Oth

Who thought he'd have himself a seasfood feast

Perhaps a cod, trout or a crab, at least!

But little did he know that day.

The crab would be fierce, and wouldn't play.
With claws that snapped! And eyes aglow.

It didn't take long, for poor Oth to know.

The crab came at him with a vengeance!

Oth tried to flee, but had no defenses!

With pinches and squishes, it was a brawl!

Poor Oth, indeed stood no chance at all!

The crab was king, it seemed, of this sandy shore.

And Oth was not alright at all, and left sure battered and sore.

A lesson was learned by poor Oth that day.

Don't mess with crabs! Just walk away!

[An Amnian soldier hits Tyrelius.]

Eloy Rhonmark: It is true, my lord.

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: I would ask you to control your client, Advocate, but for a mongrel dog like him, I suspect there is little you can do. I will simply take the opportunity to remind the defendant that any further outbursts will be met with a gag and muzzle.

Eloy Rhonmark: Thank you, your lordship.

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: Very well. Let us proceed. Inquisitor, your opening statement.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Yes, High Judicator. We trust the trial will proceed smoothly. It is incontrovertible that the mage and terrorist known as Tyrelius the Thrice-Judged is guilty of these charges and the Inquisition will provide conclusive evidence and testimony to demonstrate these undeniable facts. The Thrice-Judged may have escaped justice in the past, but the Inquisition will rectify this mistake today.”

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: And your opening statement, Advocate?

Eloy Rhonmark: The defense waives its opening statement.

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: This court recognizes the defense’s waiver. Very well. Inquisitor, proceed with your witnesses.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: The Inquisition calls High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar to the stand.

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: Let no lie pass my lips, let no falsehood be uttered in my voice. Should I speak any deception before this Tribunal, let my possessions be seized and my name brought to ruin. Before you, I swear, my testimony is as true as mithral.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: High Inquisitor. You are charged with the leadership of the Inquisition, is that true?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: Yes.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: And as leader of the Inquisition, you are familiar with prominent mage rebels and seditionists in Amn?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: I am.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: You are knowledgeable with the Arcane Liberation Front and its leadership?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: I am.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: How many attacks have the Arcane Liberation Front perpetrated upon Amnian citizens in the last six months?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: Over a dozen. Thirteen, to be precise.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Were any of these attacks provoked?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: No. The Arcane Liberation Front purports to champion the liberty of mages but what they really are is an organization that thinks magi should rule supreme, without restriction or limitation upon their actions, with no care for the innocents that suffer by their hand.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: How many have been reported slain by the Arcane Liberation Front?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: The Arcane Liberation Front have claimed responsibility for at least a hundred deaths. There are more slayings we suspect are their handiwork that are still under investigation.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: They are without a doubt a violent terrorist organization then. High Inquisitor, who do you know to be the leader of the Arcane Liberation Front?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: The accused. Tyrelius.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: I see. Now, please describe for the Tribunal the events you witnessed on Alturiak 18 of this year.

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: The Inquisition had just concluded the open forum. I had chosen that opportunity to propose to my beloved, Dhae – to Lady Dhaerys Lockheart. And in that moment, Tyrelius teleported his tower into the skies above Nashkel, hanging it over the city like an executioner’s axe, threatening the very lives of all Nashkel’s people.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: What happened next?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: Tyrelius’ agents kidnapped Secretary Headmistress Dhaerys Lockheart in the confusion. From out of the tower, a dead body fell to the earth. It was Deputy Mayor Garroth Salvor’s corpse. A note was pinned to it, indicating that the half-celestial Castus was to be handed over to Tyrelius, or Dhaerys would suffer the same fate as the Deputy Mayor.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: This note?

[A bloodstained document is presented then handed over to the Tribunal. The High Inquisitor nods.]

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: What did you do next?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: The Inquisition organized an assault force. Because we could not risk the antimagic field projected by Castus suppressing the spells keeping the tower afloat, we arranged for Castus to depart the city while Inquisition magi imbued the strike team with the power of flight. The Strike Team infiltrated the tower, dispatched what remained of the insurgents within, and commandeered the tower to land safely away from Nashkel.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: And the Secretary Headmistress?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: We were able to secure her safely and rescue her from the tower, but not before Tyrelius... He …

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: High Inquisitor. High Inquisitor, please focus on my questions. Did you find the accused within the tower?

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: No. We later determined that the plot was a ruse concocted by Tyrelius. He was never in the tower. The atrocity he committed, the terrorism he enacted on Nashkel, it was all a plot so that he could assassinate Castus.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: But he failed.

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: He failed. And now will be judged before the Inquisition. Thanks to the efforts of loyal Inquisition allies, we were able to prevent any deaths in Nashkel.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Thank you, High Inquisitor. I have no more questions for this witness.

Judicator Ario Rey: Do you have questions, Advocate?

Eloy Rhonmark: The defense has no questions for this witness.

Judicator Ario Rey: You are certain, Advocate?

Eloy Rhonmark: The defense has no questions.

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: Call your next witness then.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: The Inquisition calls Lady Dhaerys Lockheart, Secretary Headmistress of the Inquisition.

Watcher Wai Li Disgraceful what Tyrelius did to her. Stay strong, Lockheart! For the Glory of Amn!

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: Silence in the gallery!

Dhaerys Lockheart: Let not lie pass my lips, let not falsehood be uttered in my voice. Should I speak any deception before this Tribunal, let my possessions be seized and my name be brought to ruin. Before you, I swear that my testimony is as true as mithral.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Lady Lockheart. Thank you for being here today. Please state your name and official titles.

Dhaerys Lockheart: I am Lady Dhaerys Lockheart, Secretary Headmistress of the Inquisition led by the High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Thank you. We have heard High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar's account of how you came to be captured. Now, I understand it may be difficult but would you please inform the Tribunal of what you endured while in Tyrelius’ captivity?

Dhaerys Lockheart: I endured a living nightmare. I have been subjected to torture and games for the amusement of mages gathered around Tyrelius The Thrice-Judged. I have... I have been used for experiments and thrown to fight his drake pet with my bare hands. To all the tortures, mistreatments, and magic that he has forced on me, decency and dignty will not allow me to speak them all. I trust... I trust this court... I trust this court... to understand the prolonged horror I have been subjected to. They have been previously sent to this court, through letter.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Yes, Lady Lockheart. We understand. The Tribunal has been presented with your statement. To further confirm... you witnessed the accused performing vile and unsanctioned arcane magic?

Dhaerys Lockheart: I did not only witness, Inquisitor. I endured. And I still do. I come here cursed by the mage that sits here, awaiting his judgment.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Your suffering is clear for all to see. At Tyrelius' hands, you have endured the unimaginable. Assuming the accused is found guilty today, what do you ask in recompense for what he did to you?

Dhaerys Lockheart: The magic used was vile, indeed. I... I do not ask anything of this court, other than... Other than delivering Justice and restoring dignity. I do hope that for all compensation... This court will... This court will consider all the wrong done. Not just to me. Not just to Amn. But to all citizens, to all who practice magic, to all who protect against magic. I ask that this court punishes Tyrelius the Thrice Judged accordingly, with the extreme severity that his crimes inspire. I ask this court that he can be made realize what horror he has become for any who lives in Amn. This is all I ask. As he can not give me back what he has taken from me.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: The Inquisition stands with you, Lady Lockheart. We demonstrate the atrocity that are Tyrelius' crimes. Do you have anything further to add, Lady Lockheart?

Dhaerys Lockheart: I request to this tribunal that I speak directly, right before the one who tortured me.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: High Judicator. Will you honor this request?

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: By all means, Lady Lockheart. Proceed.

Dhaerys Lockheart: I should curse you. I should wish you to suffer in the Nine Hells for all you have taken from me. I should wish you tortured, with the same cruelty as I have faced. You should be thrown to a pit to suffer the same, and worse. You are the living proof of why people cannot afford to trust mages. Because of you, thousand lives are stolen, thrown in the dust. You are the living proof of why Amn needs to stand strong against magic. You are a failure to your own kind, to your rank, and to all what Amn values. But I will not give you my hatred. I will not even wish that this court inflict torture on you.

[Baron Magnus enters the room. Extraneous dialogue redacted for brevity.]

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: ORDER! ORDER IN THE COURT!"

Dhaerys Lockheart: I forgive you. And I want you to know that... I will not think of you anymore... after this day. But you, I am sure, will think of me for the rest of your life.

Thrice-Judged Tyrelius: You... YOU FORGIVE ME?! NO. No, you don't get to forgive me, THERE IS NOTHING TO FORGIVE! I WILL DESTROY YOU, I WILL SEE YOUR LIFE TO RUIN!

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: BAILIFF! Gag the defendant!

[Tyrelius is gagged. Extraneous comments about burning Tyrelius redacted for brevity.]

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Thank you, Lady Lockheart. Powerful words. I have no more questions for this witness.

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: Very well. Lady Lockheart, you may return to your seat in the gallery. Inquisitor. Call your next witness.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Yes, High Judicator. However, our next witness is the half-celestial, Castus of the Brothers Eerie. We had anticipated the defense taking longer with their cross-examinations. It would seem Castus has not yet arri–

[Castus enters the room. An amnian soldier attempts to disarm him but the half-celestial causes him to cowe into retreating.]

Castus the Fallen: Well?

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: You… you must speak the oath.

Castus the Fallen: I swear that I will speak only the truth, in the name of Helm, Mystra, or whatever god upon whom you wish me to make an oath.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: That is not–

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: Proceed with your questions, Inquisitor.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Yes, High Judicator. Please state your name and formal titles.

Castus the Fallen: Castus of the Brothers Eerie, once Sir Castus the Zealous.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Thank you. May I ask? It looks like you just came from a battle. What happened?

Castus the Fallen: Assassins. I suspect Sharrans, but I have no proof of such. Needless to say, they did not succeed.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: You were just attacked by Sharran assassins?

Castus the Fallen: I would pity them if they were not such fools. To throw their lives away for a goddess who will not give them a second thought it is truly pathetic.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Are you certain they were not Tyrelius’ allies?

Castus the Fallen: I suppose that’s possible. But I would think if they were, some attempt to free Tyrelius would have made itself apparent by now. It seems the accused remains securely in custody.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: I see. We have heard the testimony of High Inquisitor Vakkar today. He informs the Tribunal that Tyrelius’ plot to attack Nashkel with his floating tower was naught but a ruse on his part, an effort to assassinate you. Can you confirm this?

Castus the Fallen: I can. Tyrelius admitted it to me when he confronted me with his assassins in the wastelands west of Nashkel.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: You are widely known to possess the power to project an antimagic field. Indeed, your antimagic field has kept Nashkel safe from mage insurgents for many months now. And yet Tyrelius still chose to attack you himself?

Castus the Fallen: He did. As I understand it, he crafted a spell specifically designed to penetrate Antimagic Fields. I know well the effort it takes to accomplish such a thing. If Tyrelius was not such a fool, I would commend him his labor.

[Some in the audience notice a green flesh behind Castus eyes as he looks towards Aela Lathyaan.]

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: But even so, you were able to defeat him. He crafted a spell specifically designed to defeat you but it was you who emerged the victor. How?

Castus the Fallen: No magic can survive in my presence. Be it from the Weave, be it from Shar.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: There have been suggestions that your goal is the end of all magic.

Castus the Fallen: Remember who is on trial, Inquisitor. It is not me.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: Very well. You foiled Tyrelius’ plot to take you down. What happened next.

Castus the Fallen: I subdued him, removed his ability to cast any magic, and delivered him to you. To the Inquisition.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: I see. Thank you, Sir Castus. My lord, I have no further questions for this witness. The Inquisition is ready to rest its case.

Judicator Ario Rey: Any questions for Castus, Advocate?

Eloy Rhonmark: No questions, my lord. The Defense is also ready to rest.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: You’ve not even-

Eloy Rhonmark: The Defense is prepared to proceed to closing statements, High Judicator.

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: Castus, you may return to the Gallery. Inquisitor. Proceed with closing statements.

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: My lords of the Tribunal. The Inquisition has proven Tyrelius' guilt. We have provided unrefuted evidence and testimony concerning the charges levied at the defendant. We have delivered in good faith all the requisite requirements to meet a guilty verdict. I urge you, your lordships, find Tyrelius guilty and demonstrate to all of Amn that no mage who dares to threaten the safety and security of her people can evade our admantine justice. Tyrelius has already escaped judgment three times – do not allow him a fourth.

Eloy Rhonmark: The Defense trusts that the Tribunal will come to a just determination in this case.

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: Very well. The Tribunal will confer privately before rendering our verdict.

Judicator Sofia Barca: It will not take long.

[The Judicators retire to confer privately. Extraneous dialogue redacted for brevity. The following remarks were uttered out loud by Castus, presumably to something whispered by Aela Lathyaan.]

Castus the Fallen: You feared the worst? How would you know? You were not there. How are you even alive? Mystra saved you? What a joke. You came to me seeking a path to Shar. And now you say Mystra saved you. Do you think I am a fool?

[Extraneous dialogue about a noblewoman eloped with a stable boy redacted for brevity.]

Watcher Wai Li: Thank you both for your brave testimonies. I hope there is a just outcome.

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: What do you want, Watcher? I've had enough of your empty promises of aid. Do you think you can ply honeyed words to our ears while undermining us behind our backs?

Watcher Wai Li: I am not sure what you mean? What undermining? I have purposely not interacted with the Inquisition for tendays to avoid tensions not in the interest of Amn.

Castus the Fallen: You no longer seem to wish death. An irony that it took your death to bring you to this state.

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: Lie to us all you want, Watcher. I will believe your words no longer. Begone from us. I have no wish to be in your presence.

Watcher Wai Li: Very well. I only wish you both well. I am quite uncertain as to the source of this renewed hostility. Helm Protect.

High Inquisitor Giovann Vakkar: Think carefully about what you are doing and I am sure understanding will come through to even that thick skull.

[The bailiff calls the court to attention and the Tribunal returns to their dais.]

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: The Tribunal has come to a determination in this case against the accused, Tyrelius, the Thrice-Judged. All rise, as we render our judgment. We, the adamantine Tribunal charged with overseeing this trial by the Council of Six, do hereby render our verdict. On the charges of: the unsanctioned and unlawful practice of arcane magic, we find Tyrelius guilty. On conspiracy and insurrection against the lawful government of Amn, we find Tyrelius guilty. On multiple counts of assault and murder against loyal Inquisition soldiers and Amnian citizens, we find Tyrelius guilty. On the torture and assault of an Amnian government official, we find Tyrelius guilty. On the murder of an Amnian government official, we find Tyrelius guilty. And on acts of terrorism against the nation of Amn, we find Tyrelius guilty. The Tribunal has arrived to consensus on sentencing. It is this Tribunal's adamantine judgment that Tyrelius be sentenced to a lifetime of house arrest and remanded to the custody of Baron Enriq Rhonmark.

[Audience comments on the verdict redacted for brevity.]

Inquisitor Micaela Navar: My lord! High Judicator! This is highly irregular! Tyrelius's crimes go far beyond this extroardinarily light sentence!

High Judicator Hieron Ampbel: THE TRIBUNAL HAS SPOKEN! WHO DARES DEFY AMN'S JUDGEMENT?

Judicator Sofia Barca: Order! Order, I say!

Castus the Fallen: So this is Amnian Justice . I was a fool to think justice could be found here.

[The recording stops here. Notes added later on by Protector Hinzel explain that Castus attempted to attack Tyrelius and Protector Hinzel attempted to tackle him out of the way, but ultimately failed and Tyrelius was killed. Castus declared he would go after Aela and attempted to fly out of the premises. Those who attempted to stop him failed, except the fire giant Baron Magnus Eldiskegg, who disarmed him. Castus escaped bursting through the ceiling. The court was dismissed.]

Trial to Wai Li
Nashkel, 11th Mirtul 1360 DR
Recounted by Watcher Wai Li
Edited by Guide Edelgarde

In the year 1360 by Dale Reckoning, Amn sees an increasing distrust in the Arcane and the institution of an Inquisition in charge of finding and eradicating Arcane practitioner that did not swear fealty to Amn.
In the same year, Watcher Wai Li of the Everwatch Knights is accused by the Council of Six of conducting an unsanctioned investigation against the Inquisition and of withholding information from the Council of Six. After her refusal to renew her oaths to them and put them above those to her god, they formally press the following charges:

1) Conducting unauthorised investigations about the Inquisition;
2) Withheld important information about sources in the conflict against Tyrelius;
3) Interfering in the capture of Brownyn the Scorned by the Inquisition;
4) Insolence towards the Council of Six

This is the recount of the events that took place in the Trial by Combat of Watcher Wai Li a few months later, on the 11th of Mirtul 1360 DR. This recount has been provided to Candlekeep by Watcher Wai Li herself. The choice of opting for a Trial by Combat was encouraged by Lord Aaron Lyonaler, as after the outcome of Tyrelius' trial it was judged less likely to be rigged.

As the Trial approached, Watcher Wai Li said her goodbyes to her friends that were present on that day and discussed the need of stopping Castus, then proceeded to the courtyard of the Temple of Helm in Nashkel after the final preparations. Wai Li prayed to Helm perhaps one of the last times. She thanked him for saving her from a life of evil decades earlier and for the honor of serving his dogma. She thanked him: "for the opportunity to vigil one last time at her post, for Amn and for the dogma and for the honor of such regardless of the outcome. She thanked Him for the meaning and purpose he had given her life. She thanked Helm as, although her vigil had always been imperfect, she really believed in the principles He stands for and hoped to try and vigil in their name until the last of her moments. Praise Helm."

After her prayer concluded, she was summoned by Judge Ariltabar to the public Trial, accompanied by the sounds of the drums of judgement. After a short march, the group was led to an arena specifically built for the trial.
The arrive of the defendant saw the audience divided between those who called her a traitor and others who showed their support.

After being invited by the Judge, Wai Li formally requested the Trial by Combat: "Magistrate of Amn, I stand before you to formally request trial by combat to adjudicate the claims before your court. I make this request as someone that has served Amn and its interests longer than the Council of Six has even been Amn's government and as an utter patriot to this country and to the Helmite values that I believe can and still empower it with vigil. As well as to glory and prosperity of its commerce."

Emissary Velna confirmed on behalf of the Council of Six that they agreed to Wai Li's request and confirmed that their champion was ready: a massive man wearing a crude armor and wielding a great axe. His very presence emanated a foul aura.
Prompted by the judge, Wai Li declared that she surrendered her case to the outcome of the fight and that she understood there would be no possible appeal, though she requested to hear the rules of the duel before submitting to them.
The judge agreed and listed the following rules:

1. The duel would take place in the prepared arena and any champion stepping out of it before the fight was over would be considered traitor and executed.
2. No Arcane Magic would be allowed.
3. Any exterior intervention would be considered treason and the aided party executed.
4. No poison would be allowed.
5. No summoning would be allowed.
6. A defeated champion would be allowed to appeal for mercy to the judge.

While the Amnian champion grew increasingly restless, some of those present argued about whether the use of divine potions should or should not be allowed in the duel. After Wai Li's potions were reviewed and deemed appropriate, she informed the judge of her intention to fight the duel herself: "I, Wai Li, 51 years of age, servant to Amn since 1330 before the Council of Six even government of this country, utter patriot of Amn, Watcher of the Helmite church, and Paladin of Helm in his name stand as champion for self this day."
After that, the Emissary of the Council of Six announced that Valar Thorncrek had volunteered to represent them, just as the massive warrior stepped into the arena. Wai Li greeted her opponent, who did not reciprocate as he "would not greet corpses".
Before the beginning of the fight, prompted by the judge, the two champions swore to observe the rules of the trial.
The judge allowed ten minutes for preparation, which Wai Li decided to take as a religious matter as careful planning is a key tenet of the Helmite faith as Wai expressed to the magistrate. The opponent however claimed to be ready and mocked Wai Li telling her that she would get very far in ten minutes and suggested her to run away.
During her preparation, Wai Li was approached by High Watchpriest Jaumet Ubina, who encouraged Wai Li to trust the shield of Helm and described her opponent as a known warrior often hired by Amn, albeit one with a fiery temper, prone to rage. In light of this he also advised careful preparation.

Helm,
Prayers were said before this day and tenday,
I now humbly give one more of gratitude.
I submit to the dogma this day and forever.
If my shield falls or rises at the end of combat today.
There has been no greater honor than to serve in vigil.
Thank you for being the protector of the many,
but also of me over the years, though we have never truly met,
thank you for being my friend in moments of doubt.
Thank you for your love of the imperfect vigilant.
To battle now.

After her last prayer was said, the representative called her in for the battle. That's when Valar Thorncrek spoke, proposing a new rule for the tournament: "They declare the fight started. I will wait until you have spoken all your blessings. Call for your God, call for all the blessings you know. They wont serve you." Then added: "So we can show the crowd how useless your efforts are. The Reaver cares none for your mission of protection."
When Watcher Wai Li questioned the reason of this concession, her opponent recklessly declared: "I offer because I want to see it in your face. The moment when you realise you served a God that can do nothing but watch you die."
Hearing such mockery towards her god, Wai Li accepted the offer as a matter of honor.

Judge Ariltabar announced the beginning of the combat and Wai Li spoke channeled the Guardian's blessings, despite the mocking comments of Champion Thorncrek, then charged ahead at the cry of "Praise Helm!" and "For the Glory of Amn!". The fight was over in moments: a rarely seen show of divine power heralded a single, powerful blow empowered by The Watcher Himself and smote Champion Thorncrek, leaving no trace of him. Even part of the wooden arena was damaged by the fury of the blow.

As the crowd stared in awe, or in some cases in disappointment for their lost bets, Watcher Wai Li kneeled and proclaimed: "Helm, I vigil in your name, for Amn." Then finally Judge Ariltabar declared Wai Li victor of the duel and the charges of sedition and treason dropped.
"Understood, magistrate." Replied Wai Li. "Then, humbly, I intend to remain in Amn to serve our country and its beings, imperfectly in the name of the dogma of Helm. For the Glory of Amn! With the court's permission, I will return to Nashkel."
But the judge had further instructions from the Council of Six. Although they allowed her to remain in Amn as citizen, they also released her from all her oaths of service to the Council, unwilling to hear another oath from her. The judge also had care to make it clear that the monetary gain of the defeated champion would go to her after taxes.

After expressing her gratitude over the fair administration of justice and wishing her deceased opponent peace in the afterlife, she received the congratulations of her allies while leaving the arena. The belongings of the Warlord were donated to the Church of Helm.

Watcher Wai Li would later on describe the power of Helm flowing through her like never before as an almost mindblowing experience. A sign of Helm's renewed trust for her and a chance to start anew, as her vigil continues on.

The Vanishing of Ebonaust
Candlekeep, 17th Mirtul 1360 DR
Recounted by Mercy's Blade Nathan Goldenmane
Transcribed by Guide Edelgarde

To the inhabitants of Ebonaust. May the First Scribe preserve their memory.

On the 30th of Tarsakh 1360 DR, it was reported that the population of the village of Ebonaust seemed to have vanished without a trace. No traces of struggle were found, only a whip left curled around the neck of a small statue of Ilmater. Nathan Goldenmane, guardian at the Temple of Ilmater, was involved in the events that led to and devolved from this mysterious disappearance and graciously provided a recount of them, shedding light into this mystery.

According to Nathan, around the first tenday of Tarsakh there were attempts of a group of varied faiths, followers of Tiamat, and someone known as Xvim among them, of desecrating the tomb of Ser Billy. Apparently, they were all varied in purpose and motivation, with no connection between them beyond seeking to "impress" those involved with their varied faiths, to earn recognition.
In the struggle that followed, Nathan killed the follower of Xvim and consequently brought him to the Temple of Ilmater so that he could be given proper burial. Sister Ashenie decided he ought be given a chance to find a new path, and called to Ilmater to raise him back to life. He accepted the call, although there was at the time no indication he might change his ways.
He left and in the intervening days, other cultists came and were put down similarly.
Eventually, the follower of Xvim came back, prepared to attempt defiling again. Nathan reminded him he was only alive because of them, and he hesitated. Another cultist came, this one of Cyric, and the follower of Xvim, who introduced himself as Ser Fervaen Bloodspike, assisted Nathan in putting him down. That's when a vampire came by, following Bloodspike.

It became immediately clear that the vampire was rather unusual, as she was not hostile nor showed the malice common to her kind. Apparently, after Bloodspike was revived, Ashenie had showed him a vision of peril, with what would await him if he kept up his ways in service to Xvim. After seeing this, he went and destroyed all of his undead except for the vampire, as he did not make her and she was a companion of sorts to him. He also claimed that he followed the god he did because he needed to be stronger. He had been bullied a lot in his life, and had many failures, so he wished to dominate people into submitting before him. But what Ashenie showed him gave him pause, although he kept seeing Nahtan as his nemesis for foiling his attempts at the tomb and his world views in general. He then asked Nathan if he could visit him and the vampire, who was called Velza Horrorfang, likely a name Bloodspike gave her.

When Nathan visited them, Velza baked a pie for him and invited him to sit with them and talk. She claimed she did not like drinking blood and killing and so she was simply trying to make the best of the situation she found herself in. Ashenie said she knew of a ritual to turn her from a vampire, to a mortal. That it could be attempted, if she were willing. She was, but her only hestitation was out of fear of the pain she might experience.

Ashenie was allowed to come to their cave to perform this ritual, and upon examination, she found a mark on the woman's face. It appeared to be a mark bestowed on her, fueled by devotion to Loviatar. It was a means of torture: she would experience agony and suffering if she consumed blood, or did the things she would need to to survive. This mark was bestowed by the one who made her. Lord Bloodspike, whose actual name is Bradley, spoke to Nathan privately, saying he wanted to do whatever it took to help her and set her free. He claimed she meant a lot to him, as she had saved his life one day and had been looking out for him ever since: tending to him after his failures, rescuing him from death numerous times.
She was very afraid, and did not wish to complete the ritual out of fear that the infusion of positive energy would be painful. Bradley however told her a story about a time he was beaten up by a bunch of children, not while he was a child, but rather a few tendays before. This made her laugh and eased her.
A Miracle was performed by Sister Ashenie, which allowed her to be turned back into a mortal half elven woman, whose given name was Astra, even though she had been a vampire for a very long time. Nathan does not believe she was turned into one either, but rather created and Sister Ashenie managed to give some of her life essence to protect the memories she made in undeath.

Bradley claimed to be willing to stop the vampire who made her, so Nathan and Sister Ashenie planned for this and prepared similar rituals to set free any undead they might find on their path in a similar situation.
On the 28th of Tarsakh, they were led deep in the south of the Cloakwood. The necromancer lived in a house of illusions, akin to a maze. Many undead wandered it but they were not hostile. They were experiencing numerous types of suffering and begged to be killed. They attempted to bring them back but this did not work.
As they moved through the house, its architecture shifted until they found an armoire in one of the rooms. They could hear music coming from it and they walked through it as if it was a door. This passage led them to a ballroom and in there they were greeted by the sight of numerous undeath, engaged in macabre dances like puppets. And a man stood watching from a dais, directing, conducting. As Bradley attempted to confront the vampire, they learned he was no vampire at all, but rather a living man. Bradley listened, and restrained himself from letting anger consume him. The man was trying to bait the group into an attack and they did not understand why. He knew exactly what to say to hurt people most. He told Ashenie she was a broken healer of a broken god, so damaged by suffering that she could do nothing but emulate empathy and care through her own numbness. He also told Nathan that no matter what he did or how hard he tried, one day he would be found in a gutter and dismissed just as another failed tiefling that nobody would ever be able to love.
Ashenie approached him, and Nathan followed, but a great gust of wind knocked her off the Dais, and Nathan dove to catch her. She placed a symbol of Ilmater down and began to pray and conduct some ritual, perhaps another miracle, Nathan couldn't say. The necromancer approached them and the undead wandered towards her. It was clear that they all retained lucid minds, as he likely wanted them to be aware of their suffering. She tried to help them, but each one, as he gestured, would burst into nothing but blood and viscera. Clearly he was demonstrating his power.
Large thorns fell from the ceiling and pierced Bradley. Ashenie attempted a mighty consecration of the lair, but their foe with but a thought turned it into desecration, and her symbol of Ilmater burst into flames. The group had to retreat, but Bradley went back on his own, after and was nearly killed when the necromancer took control of his mind and made him harm himself.

Bradley was brought to the temple to recover for some time, in fact divine healing spells would not work on him so he had to be healed through mundane means.
About two days later, on the 30th of Tarsakh, the population of Ebonaust disappeared at the hand of the necromancer they had confronted and the whip around the statue's neck was left to taunt them. Not much later, while Nathan was guarding the tomb a man came up. He was limping and suffering greatly, walking more like a puppet than a man. Despite this he was clearly alive. He looked at Nathan and pointed, claiming that 'they were all dead because he let that man leave' and that he 'could never imagine what they suffered because of him'. He was likely controlled by the necromancer they had faced days prior, who was using him to blame Nathan for the village's death and to claim that there would be more. The shambling man spoke to someone who either wasn't there, or maybe was just in his head. He said that he said what was asked, and was told he could be set free. Then he watched in horror as he reached into his vest and pulled out Alchemical fire while begging for his life. He immolated himself while forced by someone who wasn't present.

Nathan brought his body to the temple and begged Ashenie to do something for him. When Ashenie tried to revive him, he seemed to be prevented from hearing the call entirely. And his body burst into dark flames, purple. There was nothing left of him, even though the ritual was conducted on sanctified ground. Ashenie claims that she could sense it was some kind of vile magic and that it should not have been possible without the spellcaster being present to touch the body.

Undaunted, Nathan recruited Sirion to assist with navigating the illusions and Deirde to help guarding Ashenie while she performed her rituals. Ashenie planned to show the loviataran necromancer a Vision of Punishment, to let him know what awaited him in service to the Maiden of Pain, and a Vision of Heaven, to show him what could be. She would attempt a spell of Sanctify the Wicked, an enchantment that traps an evil soul into a gem for a year and causes them to repent for their sins.

Before embarking in the mission, Nathan had a vision. In his dream, he was asleep in the temple. When he awoke, it was dead silent. Nobody was there and there was no sound of any kind not even his footsteps. No patients. No cooking in the kitchen. No fire crackling. No praying. He heard whimpering and weeping at the temple door, so he went through it. When he did, he was back in the Cloakwoods, looking at the house of the loviataran. He turned to look at the temple behind him, but a breeze came and blew the place apart. Not in a destructive way, but rather disassembling it as if the dream had finished with it and was sending it away.
He entered the house and found hundreds of people: alive, writhing tortured in agony on his floor, shackled there. The perpetrator's silhouette could be seen up on the dais. He bagan to wade through the suffering people, who moaned in agony. They attempted to grab him and slowed him but he still moved ahead. When he got close enough, he could see he had a crumpled body under his foot. He nudged it, and it rolled down the stairs towards Nathan. It was Ashenie: lifeless, with the same peaceful smile she always has.
The loviataran looked at Nathan and his vision began to go dark, though he could not see through it despite his ability to see in the dark. Just before everything went black, there was a brilliant white light that flashed and the necromancer's head separated from his body, before turning to white ash. All the suffering people's shackles burst into motes of white light, and they began to stand, their wounds gone. Where they laid, white roses blossomed out of the floor. Light shone in from the windows to where the man was standing, and a small whitewood tree with golden leaves sprouted out of the floor. A dove was perched atop it, and looked at Nathan. He could hear a familiar voice in his ear: his mother's. She simply whispered "Thank you". That's when he woke up.

The group begam planning for their next venture, while Bradley's injuries were tended to. They knew it would be very risky to go back there, as their foe could prevent healing and resurrection both. In the meantime, Nathan continued guarding the tomb. Threats came, but they were fewer.
On the 8th of Mirtul, while he was there an old man came seemingly lost. He asked if his name was David. Nathan replied it wasn't. The old man was very kind and nearly blind. He said he was trying to go to his son's home. When Nathan asked where he lived, he said it was in Baldur's Gate. Nathan informed him he was many miles in the wrong direction, so the old man asked to be escorted and Nathan accepted. While they walked, the old man said he had once been a guardian as well. He shared stories about his family and his wife, and how he spent so much time working to provide a good life for her, that he didn't get to spend as much time with her as he'd have liked. As they walked, strange things were observed: the sunset glimmered on a tree, making its leaves look like gold and there was a dove, staring at him from the canopy. He mentioned his wife died suddenly, so all he had hoped to provide for her was for naught, and he always regretted never spending more time with her while he had the chance. His son was a paladin, of the Companions of the Noble Heart. The old man then recounted a story about an old rose bush he and his wife tended while their son was younger. In their yard it grew, but no matter how much they tended it, it never seemed to blossom, and always served only to cut up their hands when they tried. In their focus on tending to it, sometimes the plants around it could become neglected. He said that sometimes, some things only serve to cause pain, and they need to be removed before they can do more harm.
They eventually got to his son's home, and he invited him in and offered me some Kaeth. The dove was perched on the awning when they entered. The man went into the kitchen and asked Nathan to sit. He waited in silence, and a few moments later a woman came down, wielding a broom, asking Nathan who he was and why he broke into her house.
Nathan explained what happened and she went into the kitchen to retrieve the old man, but there was nobody there. She said he sounded like her father in law, but that he had been dead for many years. She said her husband was indeed David, but he was also dead. He had lost his life recently, attempting to apprehend a dangerous Loviataran. He had a companion, Ser Edmund Arwitt, who had planned to go with him, but he was lured by the sound of a crying infant to act before he arrived. Ser Arwitt arrived too late, and only found David's body, surrounded by a group of dead zealots. He brought him home, but the woman did not know what to do. She kept it from her son, and Nathan advised her that he deserved the truth, lest he grow suffering and resentment for his father being away on his duty, or towards her for deceving.
The woman gave Nathan a dagger that was among David's possessions, blessed by Ilmater for the servants of the Noble Heart, and told him that it would be a way for David to see the task finished. As Nathan left the house, their miserable rose bush in the courtyard had a single white rose in full bloom.

On the 9th of Mirtul, Nathan, Ashenie, Sirion and Deirde set out to the Cloakwoods accompanied by Bradley. As they walked towards the house, Bradley's forearm tore open beneath his armor from some unseen force. He had been slashed but nobody was there. Nonetheless they reached the house, which was vacant save for vile magic that attempted to harm them, such as poisonous cloulds and desecrative energies. However, there was ballroom music in the distance. They found a large armoire, but Sirion determined that it was enchanted in multiple ways. It was a portal to somewhere else, but if they walked through it, it would strip all magic from all of them.
They passed through it regardless and found many bodies hung in a macabre display from the chandeliers in the ballroom. The loviataran, who introduced himself as Lord Hetric Kelvas, was there. He was sitting at a table with a man named Damen, who did not look like he wished to be there. His forearm was bleeding, sporting a wound similar to Bradley's. Kelvas welcomed them, then dragged a blade down his own face. Damen's face cut open as well, though Bradley's did not, likely because the wardrobe stripped whatever link they had. Kelvas claimed that the rest of Ebonaust was enjoying the same treatment, at least those that were still alive and that Nathan could never know how many.
Nathan approached the table, while Ashenie began preparing her rituals. Deirde warded her and Nathan told Sirion to attempt dispelling the man with a disjunction in order to break the link. Kelvas continued cutting himself, and the man at the table screamed in agony. As Nathan got closer, he looked back at him and begged him to not hesitate just because of him. Sirion could not prepare the dispelling in time, but Nathan stabbed the Loviataran. Damen fell dead instantly, as did all the others. Kelvas was angry as the wounds inflicted by Nathan didn't cause him any pain. He said Nathan was supposed to hesitate, to be tormented by it. Nathan hit him again but right at that time Sirion landed the disjunction. Later on Sirion would claim that Kelvas planned to swap places with one of his powerful undead right before he finished him off, however the disjunction prevented this. Kelvas showed fear for the first time.
In that moment, Ashenie finished casting the Vision of Punishment, but he seemed delighted by all the suffering that awaited for him. He drew a dagger, but Nathan knocked it away. As he did that, some magic washed over Ashenie, but was mitigated by Deirde's wards. Bradley approached and cleaved Kelvas' head in half with his blade, but even that did not kill him. It became clear he was a powerful pale master: more undead than man but neither fully. Albeit a zealot, he did not really care about Loviatar either and his only purpose was to outdo her and inflict even more pain.
One of his undead creations began weaving a powerful spell, but Sirion counterspelled it. Then Ashenie cast a vision of Heaven and Kelvas seemed angered by it. Finally she completed the spell of Sanctify the Wicked. Kelvas burst into ash and was sealed into a blue diamond, to re-emerge in one year's time as a changed man with understanding of the harm he did and seeking to undo it. Or, at the least, perhaps to stand trial for what he has done.
The the house began to fall apart, the large illusionary place no longer sustained by its maker. The group left, but Nathan was catatonic, so Bradley had to drag him out as he couldn't deal with having just killed what would turn out to be thirtyfive innocent people, after the House Darius wagons were sent to collect the bodies.
Kelvas had planned for that outcome. If Nathan had not done what he did, he would have stabbed himself and killed them and even if Sirion had severed the link earlier, the house would have collapsed on them all. He wanted Nathan to suffer for that no matter what he tried.

The bodies were taken to the temple and Ser Arwitt assisted. Of thirty five, two came back: Damen and a gnome. Bradley was angered by the whole thing and Nathan worried he would see Ilmater as weak, as Astra told him he was out and about with a bucket of blood at the ready. When he followed him and interjected, though, he learned he was on his way to an altar to Loviatar. Apparently he was under the impression that this was the only way to undo the unholy place. As they arrived, Bradley tossed the bucket and started kicking the banners down. Nathan struck the altar with David's dagger and it disintegrated into white ash. The dagger pulsed with a red glow briefly and as it did he felt his aches and pains, and some of the guilt dissipate. Nathan told Bradley this was better than bucket and he believe this migh have inspired him to seek training in one of the Temple's orders.

Damen, one of the two who were brought back, sought Nathan in the coming days. He came to hi crying and hugged him, thanking him for freeing him from what had been happening to him, saying it was a mercy to be freed as Ilmater seemed to prevent Nathan's blade from causing any pain. He had been an alcoholic before Kelvas took him and the reason he came back was because his life was wasted on drinking and he felt he was being given a second chance to make something of himself. He said he did not know how he was going to repay Nathan, but some day he was going to.

Currently, Sister Ashenie is undergoing penance for the victim of the Loviataran. As for the fate of the latter, Ashenie said that even though this may seem to some like a less just end, it means his goddess will not be empowered by his death, and that he cannot be brought back by her. He will be unreachable entirely by her.

Remembrance of the Just Dead in Honor of Ser Halvard Stonevik
Baldur's Gate, 2nd Kythorn 1360 DR
Transcribed by Guide Edelgarde

This transcribed sermon was celebrated at the Halls of Justice of Tyr by Abbot Eldric Sulnar in honor of Ser Halvard Stonevik. According to his brother in faith, Priest Vhaan De Luca, the Tyrran paladin valiantly sacrificed his life to fight an Aboleth and horrid sea creatures and undead upon a beach by the Cloakwood. He was then posthumously knighted in the Order of the Radiant Heart.

We gather on this evening, Oh Just Tyr, to remember all those which perished. Those that have given their lives for the safety of all. Those that put Justice and Fairness as a cause worth laying their lives upon. But unlike every evening, tonight we wish to remember a man, a knight, a paladin, who with zeal, unwavering courage and righteous wrath, had perished. Striking a mortal blow against a foe most terrible.

Let his life be a reminder for us, an inspiration, that even against a darkness most evil and terrible, there can be no fear. There can be no tears. No running away. Only Justice. Righteousness. Bravery. Unwillingness to back down against anything the uncaring and the cruel put against us, in our daily lives as well as great challenges.

Along with him, let us remember all those that have died for safety of Baldur's Gate. Every Fair and Just soldier, warrior, knight, noble and beggar. The righteous guards and those called criminals by all evil, persecuted for their fair and good heart.

Let us remember Thedran Asen.
Let us remember Eric Lightbringer.
Let us remember Priest Olwyn of Torm.
Let us remember Thomas of Torm.
Let us remember Jackard Felts of Helm.
Let us remember Revered Father Marcus of Ilmater.
Let us remember Alexander Holgart.
And let us remember all those unnamed, who perished in wars and conflicts against forces of Evil, Misery and Destruction, giving their lives so that we may live in a brighter future.

[As the Abbot raises his hands, the Chanters begin to sing in unison. The Archon Lady Terragona, the Flame of the Just, joins the chanters voices]

Rest mighty and meek,
For your time is at an end.
Sheathed are your weapons,
Lowered are your hands.

The struggles you've endured,
The pain you have suffered.
Know that we breathe,
Live and remember.

Rest, mighty and meek,
For your vigil is now done.
The wrongs you have righted,
The lives that you brightened,
All will remain.

The days of sorrow,
The nights of tears,
They descend on us.
While your spirit soars,
We together weep.

In the House of Triad,
The hallowed Halls of Just
Your greatest fate now lies.
Remember those you loved
And saved as we remember you.

[The Abbot begins to conduct a wordless chant. After the next five minutes of the chanting pass, the singers bring the song to an end.]

Tyr, Torm, Ilmater. Into your hands we offer the souls of the Just, the Righteous, the Merciful and The Forgiving. We humbly beseech you to grant them peace and happiness, ever at your sides, in the Seven Heavens of Celestia.

[The Abbot invokes a Bless spell upon all that gathered within the temple]

Thank you all for coming here. The loss of our brother in faith was sudden, but it must not deter us from what is important. Trust. Honesty. Honour. Righteousness. Remember them and try to do your best to bring it in your lives to all you meet.
Go with blessings of the Triad.

Isaac: Everyone! Thank yee for coming. We'll be bringing up individuals one at a time who wish to speak .Most important matters first. You come up. The floor is yours.

Molly: About time! Thank you Isaac. Isaac for mayor everybody!

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity. Please contact Guide Edelgarde for the unabridged version.]

Molly: I came up here today to speak of an issue pressing Beregost, that all of the high up Amn lovers won't talk about! Sheep theft has become rampant in Beregost! We need to stop these sheep movers! Some farmers have been going around marking claim to their sheep with ribbons, then putting ribbons on other sheep! We should Require a registration on sheep!

Marl: But if you can't look after yer own sheep, what right do ye have to them, eh?

Molly: A system where ribbons and bells are not the standard! We need standards in our town! Or else we are going to end up like them Amnians! Or worse! You other farmers make me sick! We are a community, so get yourselves together!

Woman #1: Standards! (Kase)

Man #1: Well look after yer bloody sheep! (Michael)

Sammy: Why dont you just say what its really about!

Molly: Shut up Sammy!

Sammy: No that sheep was mine!

[Back and forth on sheep ownership and other extraneous dialogue expunged for brevity]

Molly: I yield my time!

Isaac: Thank you Molly, for that pressing matter. Your next, Ruby.

Emerald: It's Emerald! Now I know you lot ain't wanting to hear from me again, but it's my turn on the floor, so you're gonna have to listen up. Now I've lived in Beregost for more moons than all of you. And judging by some of you in the room, not sure if you ever stepped foot here. But stop leaving your damn rubbish on the street. We have a rubbish system for a reason! Don't just drop on the ground outside your door. What are we? Amnians? There's trash barrels everywhere! Now I can even give you a demonstration of how to put the rubbish in the trash if you want!"

[Extraneous dialogue expunged]

Woman #1: And clean up after your cats!

Emerald: Bloody cats! This ain't Baldur's Gate!

Man #2: We should designate a gnome to handle cleaning up of the trash! (Milan)

Woman #1: It's the damn children I tell you!

Emerald: Get a real animal, like a dog or a goat.

Sonya: Or a badger!

Emerald: Yeah or a badg- no, not a badger, you silly sod.

[Dialogue on badgers expunged for brevity]

Emerald: That's it. Don't wanna see yer rubbish.

Man #2: Well spoken, Sapphire!

Emerald: Emerald!

Isaac: Acolyte Madison, you're up.

Marl: When are we going to talk about the undead?!"

[Extraneous dialogue expunged for brevity]

Acolyte Madison: Father Darian Hawkwood went missing! He was a Lathanderite! If you got any information on his disapperance... We're offering a bounty! Fifty gold coins!

[Extraneous dialogue expunged for brevity]

Virin: Define "missing"?

Vanira: When did he go missing?

Marl: I bet one of those horn people took him.

Nathaniel: Where was he last seen?

Acolyte Madison: No. Not found! Missing. Sometime last night was the last time they were seen.

[Extraneous dialogue expunged]

Tiawyn Aleaneldeth: Did he try to oppose the Undead or the cause of it?

Man #3 (Jinkins): Why are we even talking about the undead. Doesn't threaten those of us on with property outside the fence. You city folk think you're all that.

Acolyte Madison: No. He was alive afterwards. Preaching in the chapel. He always did his preaching at night behind the Mayor's mansion.

Szarilana Hezret At-night?

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Acolyte Madison: At night!

Tiawyn Aleaneldeth: Were there any who were against what he preached?

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Acolyte Madison: Uh. You'd have to ask him why he did. Preaching at night waiting for the dawn I think. Maybe...

Marl: Next!

Isaac: Yes, you, get up here.

Marl: Isaac! I would like to speak! I stand before a crowd of outsiders and visitors who haven't given a rats arse about this city. What a disgrace.

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Marl: You want to share the markets, and pray at our temples but not spend the day helping burying the bodies. A lot of good people died here. A lot better than myself, and we still haven't dug enough plots. But tell me about your rubbish... Tell me about the trash in the streets. We were under attack! I get it, you want a say in Beregost but the city is bleeding. So let's say something worthwhile while we're all gathered and maybe one of you walks away the wiser. Eleven soldiers dead. Four including paladins of the Morninglord. Recruitment needs to begin, or we will not survive another attack.Turning was effective, but there were too many and they were too spread out. The abbot reported they were led by a pact mage. We need stricter laws against warlocks. The pact mage was said to be undead like the others, but it commanded the skeletons we saw.

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Marl: Quiet!

Maraav Deinir: In Baldur's Gate we do registration for each Warlocks there, maybe can work here also.

Marl: Not at this time, we have to be careful. We cannot afford the mistake.

Shelly: Just because someone's a warlock doesn't make them nessecarily evil. There's evil fighters. Rogues. Clerics. Mages. All walks of life.

Emerald: Registration? Can't even sort out the rubbish on the streets!

Virin: Do we think the undead will die, if we destroy their master?

Marl: There appears to be no reason for any of it, but some of the survivors indicated their leader was marching towards the song of the morninglord.

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Marl: Shut your mouth! If you want to say you're not from Beregost you can just say it instead of cloaking it behind "Paladins are the worst"! Anybody that lived in this community knows who the heros were that day, anybody else is a damn idiot wasting the air around us. Should be put away for theivery! And I know you have all been muttering around tieflings, and I don't think that's right either. One of them saved my home. They ran around frantic in the streets to protect our homes. There was no structural damage, and it wasn't a miracle. It was the hard work of our people. Our people!

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Isaac: You had enough time, Marl.

Marl: No! Wait! I'm not finished.

Isaac: Get off! Others have more to say, dangit!

Marl: Marcs Ulgart! Daemon Withrik! Wait! These were their names, these heros who died for this city! Sonya Everoth!

Isaac: Get off the dang stage Marl! Off!

[Marl is pushed off the stage]

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Marl: They died for you! Have some damn respect!

Isaac: Some had too much to drink.

Virin: He's the first one in this meeting to talk any sense.

[Marl leaves the premises]
[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Isaac: He brings up a good point. Tieflings. Only a few of you before the attack. Now, quite a few tieflings now after the attack. Coincidence?! I think not!

Vanira: If I may?

[Extraneous dialogue on tiefling expunged for brevity]

Isaac: Don't matter! Horned or not. Tailed or not! Everyone thinking that tieflings should be round. We need to remove them from our town!

Vanira: May I speak?

Nathaniel Everyone calm down they are not responsible what happened here lets focus the main reason why we are here. I think miss Vanira wants to take the floor if that's ok?

Isaac: How do you know that? Everyone round here was seeing a tiefling running around before the attack!

Vanira: May I please have the floor?

Nathaniel Maybe they were helping defend the village.

Isaac: Oh? Who's Vanira?! You? Go ahead, elf.

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Vanira: Some of you here know me, but for those of you who do not. I am Vanira, a long standing ally of Beregost and the temple of Lathander. I fought to protect as many as I could in the Amn war, that was a hard loss. However, you all pushed to be free from under their thumb and I am proud to see all your community has accomplished since then. The other day, I was the sliver streaked hair blur that hopped your fence crying out the warning about the undead that were on their way. The attack on Beregost, was the result of dhaerow houses fighting for power and it has unfortunately spilled upon the surface and we have reaped some of the mess. Yes, there was an undead horned man that was also here attacking the town amongst the undead, but there were more protecting your homes against the undead mobs. I ask you to take a moment and reflect on that thought.

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Vanira: I understand the fear and anger that many of you feel. It is natural to want to protect your loved ones and your homes from any threat. However, we must not let that fear blind us to the truth. The attack on Beregost was orchestrated by the dhaerow, and while some may have allied themselves with darker forces, there were also those who stood beside us, defending our town."

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Virin: What would drow want with Beregost? I mean, do we know that yet? It sounds weird.

Vanira: We cannot paint everyone with the same brush. Trust is a delicate balance, one that must be built on actions and not just appearances. I urge you all to consider the actions of those who defended Beregost, who stood with you in your time of need. Let us not close our hearts to potential allies because of the actions of a few. We must be vigilant, yes, but also fair and just in our judgments.

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Vanira: Why have they attacked any of the places they have, but Beregost has not been the only place of their ire. Let us bury and respect those that have fallen, let us keep a watchful eye. Let Beregost continue to be the place where the new dawn raises to start anew with hope.

Isaac: Yes. Down with the drow, down with the tieflings! They are both in unison, working together!

[There is a round of applause for Vanira]

Maraav Deinir: Drows want you folks and Beregost weak, so they easy capture you and your children, or your coins! They want you all fight with tieflings and others, so you will be even more weak!

[Extraneous dialogue expunged for brevity]

Isaac: The tiny one. You have the floor. Do you need a little stool? Crate?

Shelly: This'll do. I'm not a native to Beregost but I've travelled to your town. And along the way, my friend Sonya and I were accosted at the bridge of the north side. Bandits.

[Extraneous comments about children expunged for brevity]

Shelly: There were three humans, and one hin. They demanded a toll. Five bags of gold each. We refused. They attacked us. Humans did. And a hin. We fought them, and defeated them. Sonya and I. Three of them perished. Afterwards, a nice lady that has a tail walked up to us. Know what her first words were? Does anyone need medical assistance? I dunno if you're a tiefling, miss, but I surmise it's likely so.

Sonya: No, Shelly, no... These were poisonous words! She was assessing wether we can still fight!

Shelly:All's I know, from experience, is that to be a healer, one must have a certain selflessness. A desire to help others.

Virin She's the Guide of Candlekeep. She's got better things to do than trick people. Like saving your kids, apparently!

Shelly: My point in all this is that evil isn't born. It's made. You get nice humans, you get bad ones. Hin, dwarves, elves. Tieflings. Aasimar too.

Isaac: When has Candlekeep has done anything for us?

Szarilana Hezret: When has he ever done anything for Beregost? Where was he during the attack?

Shelly: So thank you, miss for your offer of assistance, so selflessly offered.

Edelgarde: No need to thank me.

Szarilana Hezret: Go on. Try to lie to save face.

Shelly: That's all...

Isaac: I was around. Defending the people!

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Szarilana Hezret: Truly? Was he? Self did not see him. The Lathanderites did not see him. The other defenders did not see him.

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Isaac: You can count for all the civilans?! Dang smart for a tiefling. Did you speak to all of them about I?

Virin Go on then, show of hands. Did anyone see this guy helping out? Anyone at all?

Vanira: I did not see him there either.

Szarilana Hezret: Self speaks because Self was there fighting and bleeding for the town. And he was not. Was he there afterwards aiding the priests with setting the dead to rest? Was this why he was unable to speak in the actual town hall? Because he lies through his teeth every chance he gets?

Isaac: How do we know you didn't start it yourself, you could be a drow tiefling for all we know? I was around. Helpin the people.

Szarilana Hezret: We could always wander over to the church who lost all those Paladins. Get their side of things.

Isaac: I would. But the barn was too small for everyone!

Woman #1: The barn was bigger! You can fit more truth in a barn than you can the whole town hall!

Szarilana Hezret: He can lie to the townsfolk if he wishes. He can lie to the dead. But go on and try to lie to Lathander at his altar. Self will continue to bleed for this town, regardless of his lies. Does he remember the names of the fallen by chance? The names he tried to suppress?

Isaac: You just want the whole town to be on your side, hm? So you can steal our children?

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Szarilana Hezret: The children Self was running around town protecting? While he was hiding away? And he. Was he off gambling instead of fighting? Drinking perhaps?

Nicho Allenner: Say, Isaac, what do you have against tieflings? I just wonder why you tried to shift our attention to them from drows

Nathaniel: Yeah that does seem very odd!

Szarilana Hezret: If anyone here remotely cares about what happened. Ask the church. There is no truth here.

Nicho Allenner: And I won't ask you why you yawned when Vanira was talking about that attack. Like it wasn't a big deal to you.

Isaac: I see where you're coming from, and I acknowledge it. My damn family was killed by a fiend! Who's next?!

Bob: I'm up.

Isaac: Go ahead, Bob.

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Bob: If its someone's dog present here today, will you pray reign them in? My garden now has the bones of undead since the attack. Nobody?

Isaac: I'm going to uh... Get the list of people killed by tieflings in the back.

[Several people point at Nicho's dog]

Virin: Are you serious right now?! How is a garden more important than your lives?! How many people need to die before you stop distracting yourselves with sheep, and dogs, and badger crap?

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Bob: Get your mutt out of the garden before I do something about it. That's all.

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Emerald: Alright, seems like the youngster doesn't know how to run a meeting, but old Emerald does. Alright, you. You're next.

Virin: I'm not from around here. I grew up in Zazesspur, way down in Tethyr, and I've spent the last couple years living mostly out in Baldur's Gate. Plenty of tieflings. Plenty of farmers, though usually it's 'cause they're trying to sell their stuff in the big city. Plenty of little problems like you've been talking about here. You know what they don't have at the Gate, though? An undead horde.

Molly: They did about ten years ago! Maybe they want to fix those undead in their graveyard!

[Extraneous comments expunged for brevity]

Virin: Okay, they don't have one now. 'Cause they focused on what was important, and they killed the horde off before it could destroy the city. But you didn't beat whoever brought the horde around, did you? That's what I came here to find out. So can we please try and focus on that? Anyone, any ideas?

[Some people in the crowd ask for a committee]

Sammy: Committee! Lets have Isaac lead!

Virin: Isaac arranged half the meeting around ignoring the problem. Oh, he probably ran off. There's a back door here, isn't there? Or a window or something?

Vanira: We need to focus on saying our goodbyes to the dead, to heal, and to recruit more to keep watch.

Virin: Yep, all of those. Good ideas. And we need some scouts, or something, to look for them. I'm better with rooftops than bushes, myself, but anyone who wants to go scouting... could you gather behind Emerald here?

Szarilana Hezret: Is she serious right now? She is dragging peasants out to face undead?

Virin: Half of us are bloody adventurers, by my count. We've got the Wintertals from the Phoenix Company in the back; A knight of the Radiant Heart on the other side. Mystran mages. Candlekeepers.

[A tiefling hisses and is shoved by a man. She lashes out with her claws and wounds him. The crowds starts panicking and leaving the premises. The man is treated by Virin and Aaron, however the meeting is interrupted as most of those present leave]

Analytics on Despair and Hope
by Zel Castriver

Seems to be a manuscript, written in no particular order with notes here and there.

The analytic relation of despair and hope takes as its starting point the isomorphism in their propositional forms, both A despairs that p and A hopes that p can be reduced to desire for p and a belief concerning ps possibility: A desires that p, and A thinks that p fails within a range of physical possibility which includes the improbable but excludes the certain and the merely logically possible.
In account of their isomorphic proposition, one more factor will need to be involved in the concept of despair and hope to truly distinguish the two supposedly contrariness. One would suggest that beside desire and belief, despair and hope also involves their respective mental imaging. A despairing subject focuses on the outcome under the aspect of its improbability, while a subject who hopes is disposed to focus on the desider outcome under the aspect of its possibility.

Though beside the form of despair in isomorphic proposition to hope, which here described as despair or possibility, in ordinary language contexts despair also frequently takes the form of despair of necessity, to which hope lacks its counterpart: A desires that p, and A thinks that p falls out of the range of physical possibility. Such proposition is unique to despair, as one would never hope for what's certain, only to despair for what's impossible.

As for the norms of relating rationality to these two propositional concepts of possibility, there is consensus regarding the point that there is a theoretical aspect to the rationality of both. The question is whether the outcome is indeed improbable or possible this amounts to evaluating despair or hope in terms of their correctness and whether the person is justified in her taking the outcome to be improbable or possble this amounts to evaluating despair and hope in terms of justification or responsiveness to reasons. Despair of necessity on the other hand, would be far more difficult to rationalize theoretically, for propositions such as p falls within the range of logical possibility and out of the range of physical possibility is logically impossible to be testified to be true, only epistemic degree of confidence could be used to justify the despair.

On the practical aspect, hope seems to many to possess instrumental rationality. It was told that hope is rational so long as it promotes the agents rational ends to do these things, as in to engage in hopeful activites such as acting to promote the end, fantasizing about the outcome, entertaining certain feelings of anticipation and such, the value hope has for the pursuit of ones end. For despair though, both possibility and necessity, few would consider them to hold any instrumental rationality, rather irrationality in practice, since they usually promote the agents actions towards the opposition. It is not always a true stance, however, for the utility of despair often finds itself in opportunity cost.

Despair / Hope in all instances are not always described propositionally, as in temporal despair / hope, opposite to fundamental despair / hope or radical despair / hope, which is non-propositional, without a determinate object. Psychologically they each can be defined as a general orientation or sense of how things are wtih the world:
Radical despair: in the context of which intentional states of the kind A despairs that p are necessary.
Radical hope: in the context of which intentional states of the kind A hopes that p are possible.

Despair and hope, as antitheses as they are in ordinary language, are valued differently in the existential hierarchy. Fundamentally, radical despair is the psychological-metaphysical state of existence, imposed by the infinity of free will and its clash with the finity of being:

a1. All beings of souls possess free will as an ontological promise.
a2. The ontological promise of free will implies infinite choices within the realm of logical possibility.
b1. Existence within the phenomenal world implies finite choices within the realm of physical possibility..
b2 Even souls are not immortal. Non-existence is a necessity in infinite time.
c1. Matter is infinite, as is free will.
d1. A despairs that p if A desires that p, and A thinks that p falls out of the range of physical possibility.
e1. In infinite matter and time there is necessarily p desires by A of infinite free will yet fails out of the range of physical possibility due to the finite existence of A.
e2. Intentional states of the kind A despairs that p are necessary.
e3. Radical despair is a necessity of existence.

In which case, the supposed role of hope fails, as it has nothing to provide to negate the necessity of despair. It takes no short of a leap of faith to hope for a eternity, greater than all the divines, an absolute, to overcome existential despair, which in no way possesses any rationality.

On an ethical aspect, hope is often claimed to be a virtue, namingly as Shar holds her domain over despair, a moral obligation in overcoming despair with hope is often raised by moralists. Though in manifestation of the existential despair as an example, a child born in the city sewers who has lost their legs to rats as in finity of being, has the imagination of imagining circumstances better than their current situation as in infinity of free will knowing only that it is impossible for them to achieve, thus comes despair. In such a case as the virtue of hope absents, ethically there is no rationality in claiming such despair is morally evil, despite all the externality.

The Dysangelion Volume I
by Herald of the Black Dawn

Proclamation of the Prince

We are living through unholy transfiguration of cosmic scale. An initiation of New Aeon. When it becomes necessary to utter the Word, the whole of the land must be bathed in blood. The Old must die to make a way for The New. The many false gods have to perish for the One to rule supreme. It is unavoidable progression, an unstoppable force of fate and change. The Black Dawn is rising, its unholy radiance growing stronger each day and hour and soon it will eclipse all that was before. No flesh shall be spared - the hearts of men will blacken like the Unholy River blackened with blood of fallen god. Those hearts who will rest will have their beat quenched instead. There is no escape from the scorching radiance of the Black Sun. Death to all of those who oppose Cyric.

This is the One True Way
This is the rule of the Supreme Throne.

On Rule of Will
Authority is nothing unless backed by might, but more importantly Will. The Black Sun is the authority supreme, from which all power stems. Blessed be with his darkness those in his unholy graces, for only those deserve to rule over the land. The prophets of Old said, Might makes Right, in which they were on spot somewhat, but ultimately erred. Might that fails to exercise itself, to impose, means nothing. It is Will that makes right, a will to utilise one's might to the fullest. A Will to act, a Will to take, a Will to Power. For those who aspire to be Dark Suns stewards upon the land.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law above which only the will of the Supreme Being stands. No deed is too heinous, no murder too cruel, no betrayal too bitter in a way to power and glory of Cyric. Obey not the slave morality of the paladin cattle. Exercise your Will to Power. This is the One True Way.

On Fermentation of Strife
Chaos is a ladder to power, and no chaos is better than the chaos of conflict. Whenever and wherever one will crashes unto another, blows are exchanged and grudges forged, not only is the black heart of our Supreme Lord filled with joy, but a door for furthering temporal ends opens. When wills grind against each other, a third party can divide and conquer. Pit your foes against each other. Watch them bleed each other slowly, then stab them when they do least expect. Pick your allies wisely, and never treat such declarations as permanent. Aligning goals eventually shift and diverge, and beneficial contracts turn into burdens unexpectedly quickly. Climb up, corpse after corpse, ruin after ruin, betrayal after betrayal. Thrust fright into their hearts so they shall not know day or hour of their doom. Fell one foe at a time, and keep others uneasy, confused, and vulnerable. Any method is justified if it brings the desired end. This is the One True Way.

On Way of the Slayer
Power over the life and death is the power ultimate and the power the true steward of the Black Sun must exert it it without hesitation. For there is no dynamic like the one between the hunter and the prey, the killer and the victim, the executioner and the condemned. To take life, is the finest exercise of superiority. Murder is an Unholy Sacrament. It needs to be savoured, in every bit. All slayings are good for all of them further the influence of Our New Lord of Murder, but some are worthier than others. The terror of impending doom, the prolonged agony brings joy indescribable to our Lord, and also projects our power and reputation, striking further fright into hearts of heathens. Whenever possible, remember to offer your victims to the One, for Black Sun delights in the blood spilled in his name. This is the One True Way.

On Negation of Truth
The Prince of Lies is the title of your Lord, and you will honour this epithet. For words have power, and bending them to your will can release this power. Say what you need at the moment. Say what serves your cause and the cause of Cyric. Do not bother yourself with factuality, but only if your words bring the desired end. Be wary though, do not repeat the errors of She-Whose-Name-We-Not-Speak and her minions, however. Lies are to serve a purpose, not to be an wanton end in their own. They are not meant to be litany of pointless untruths uttered with no thought about the consequence and risk. Treat your words like a chisel to shape your surroundings to your liking and to Cyrics Greater Glory. Obfuscation, doubt, perjury, libel and deceit are weapons as powerful as any blade. But like any blade, they need to be wielded skillfully to achieve the desired effect. This is the One True Way.

Exotic Kinds of Orcs I
by Ryke

Talking about orcs, folk usually imagine them rowdy trouble makers who enjoy fighting and pillaging, and ain't very smart. But there be many more kinds of orcs to this world, some more rare and bizarre than others...

MIRROR ORCS

There be many mysteries hidden behind, what seems to be, ordinary mirror surfaces. Revealing these mysteries be a subject of a book of its own, but know this: Mirror orcs be real and dangerous!

Mirror orcs can be called aritificial orcs, in a way, because they be mirror reflections of the real orcs coming to life. They lurk behind the mirrors, waiting to ambush those who tread into that crazy mirror world.

Mirror orcs be the twisted reflections, having noodly arms, but also being smarter. Never know when a mirror orc jumps at you from the mirror world.

And remember, that mirror orcs can only be killed with mirror weapons...

ORCS ACROBATS
Ya'll be used to orcs being bulky and strong, but do you often see orcs doing sommersaults and back flips?

It be a well known fact, that the best way to get rid of the orcs be catapulting them into each other. However, it if you try this with the acrobat orcs, they'll avoid the collision, instead giving each other a victorious high five! This alone makes orcs acrobats severely challenging.

FLYING ORCS
Imagine an orc falling at you from the sky. Crazy, right? But this crazyness can become reality, when it comes to the flying orcs!

Evolving from the orcs acrobats, the flying orcs not just avoid being squashed by a catapult shot, but turn it into their weapon, launching themselves onto fine folks.

An average life span of the flying orcs be six seconds, ending when they smash into the ground.

UNDEAD ORCS
Consequently, flying orcs some times evolve into undead orcs. Those might deceptively look like ordinary undead, which be a trouble in itself, but they be bigger, stronger and angrier.

Undead orcs fear holy water, so spray them with it when you see them! Or better lob holy water flasks.

UNDER WATER ORCS

One of the most dangerous kind of orcs to ever exist. Few folks in the wold have ever seen the under water orcs, that's because they be hiding deep under the water surface, waiting to ambush you when your swimming gets too careless!

Unlike the ordinary orcs, the under water orcs' patience knows no limits. They can be waiting under water forever, eager to ambush you in the perfect moment. They can breath under water, turning the above into quite a problem.

The under water orcs usually live in seas and rivers, sticking to the shores. But there's been notorious incidents of them ambushing folks at bathes...

It is hard to give a good advice for protection against the under water orcs. They usually prefer going for one's toes first, and they be overly patient, never too swift in their ambush. If you feel your toes tickling under water, it be a sigh that the under water orcs be about to strike!
