Hello everyone. I am truly sorry but I am going to have to delay tomorrow's event by one week. I have not had enough time over this past week to plan and prepare everything like I had hoped and now I am dealing with some bad jetlag. I'm a little worried I won't be awake for the event, much less be able to run something coherent.

With another week to prepare and get over this jetlag, I should be ready to wrap up this long plot. Thank you for your understanding and I sincerely apologize for those who were hoping to join the event tomorrow. Hopefully you will be able to make it on the following sunday instead.

THE GAUNTLET IS THROWN

As tensions in Baldur's Gate worsen, a young Lord Rictor Mountsend decides to organize a "Gauntlet of Champions," challenging heroes, mercenaries, and adventurers alike to compete in a contest for fame and glory. Participating in the competition is sure to earn any ambitious challenger a chance for the spotlight and recognition from the city's nobility and public at large. Of course, whether that recognition is positive or negative can only be borne out by one's performance in the gauntlet.

The gauntlet will consist of a series of challenges, the first of which will be a cooperative survival challenge designed for any combatant. The goal of the challenge is to work together as a team with other challengers to defeat the current Gauntlet Champion while surviving the trial until its end*. Those who can do so will be rewarded with prestige and splendor as only befitting a victor of the Gauntlet.

Lord Rictor Mountsend announces the identity of the current champion: the Thousand-Faces Headsman. There is little to be heard on who or what this opponent may be besides the rumors being spread by House Mountsend itself: supposedly the Thousand-Faces Headsman is a fearsome opponent of unrivaled versatility and adaptability. Some wonder if it's fair for a single champion to face a dozen but Lord Rictor is curiously unconcerned.

Dare you face this thousand-faced gauntlet? Dare you risk life and limb for the glory of the Gauntlet?

To the victors go the spoils! And to Baldur's Gate, glory!

*Challengers agree to indemnify and hold harmless House Mountsend in the event of any injury, loss of limb or life, or any other repercussions endured during and/or derived from participation in the gauntlet.

Word spreads from Amn that a massive gala is being planned in the Mayor's Estate in Nashkel. Said to be sponsored by a mysterious and anonymous donor, rumors circulate that this may be the last attempt for those who seek to influence the decision on the fate of the Rhonmark Barony. Both Federico Garsea and Ario Rey are sure to be in attendance. The guest list includes notable Amnians but is also open to notable foreign representatives and dignitaries, provided they can demonstrate past service to Amn ... or sufficient coin to buy an invitation.

THE COMMONS' CHOICE

In the Steeps, the Commons prepares for an election of a new representative on the Commons' Council. The candidates:

• Katlyn Steel, widow to a blacksmith Guildsman and a well-respected member of the Commons. A moderate through and through, she favors diplomacy and compromise in achieving the Commons' goals. Her campaign promises an end to the violent and riotous tactics employed in the past.

• Robb Strong. Returned to the city after the tragedy of his family's deaths, he now campaigns with a vengeance. The obliteration of the Commons' Militia gives him little pause; indeed, he has somehow brought with him a contingent of Black Tower mercenaries to protect his candidacy. Hostile, politically extreme, and unafraid of confrontation, his brand of leadership will no doubt pit the Commons against its vast array of political enemies in the city.

The choice the Commons now makes could influence its fate in the city for years to come. And although only actual members of the Commons are allowed to vote, the election itself is open to the public ... and all the influence that those with interest might bring to bear.
