Aidan Thatcher ~ Attempted Gentleman

Appearance: Aidan walks with a swagger, born of confidence in who he is and what he wants. Yet even with his wealth, he does not hold himself lofty. He wears a smile as quickly for the poor as he does the well off and shows his concern openly when others are met with misfortune. There is a kindness in his ways, and a welcome to his gaze. The man always keeps himself well groomed, as is expected of a Sunite. Finding that outward beauty should be a reflection of ones inner-self. He stores his clothing in a cedarwood chest he built himself so that his clothing always keeps the scent of cedar. His hair is kept long, swept back in a leather wrapping behind his head to avoid it getting in the way of his work and almost constantly is worn under a hat unless attending formal gatherings. His face is sharp, chiseled and masculine, with a strong jawline that often sets hard when he is angry. Aidan has a decent muscular tone but he's in no way muscle-bound. His eyes though kind and welcoming... are also piercingly deep and seem to want to ask a thousand questions of those who catch his gaze, while somehow being thoughtful and empathetic in nature. His voice is soothingly husky, riding the sword tip of a silver tongue. He knowingly wields the words to stir emotions and uses the talent sparingly. Were you to miss all these things there is an apparent intelligence in him as voluminous as the many shelves of a book shop, but lays lazily behind his desire to guise it in his very common jesting nature. For Aidan Thatcher tries for all he can to make a jest of all things in life, even death. Were he capable of saying the right thing, doing the right thing, he sometimes will fail just to be able to cling to the title of "Attempted" gentleman.

Background:
Aidan was the eldest child of Ulith and Katherine Thatcher, with one younger sibling, a sister named Myla. Ulith, his father was a renown Shipwright in Athkatla, revered for his hard bargaining, and moral business practices. Ulith was known also for his heavy drinking. Katherine was a well regarded librarian, a rare and oddity book collector who loved to write and taught her children the importance of written work. She was a woman of reform, graceful and kind hearted, while being soft spoken and temperate. When Aidan was twelve his mother grew very ill and passed away. There was little that the clergy could do for her and though it was never proven, it was suspected to be a case of Feather Lung. Her passing weighed hard on the Shipwright Ulith who spent most of his nights muttering and mumbling infront of the family hearth. His moods had become dark and though he'd never been a violent man in the past, sorrow does dangerous things to a mind.
One night while getting very drunk he'd got into a fight with Aidan, leaving the youth wary of their now strained relationship. When Ulith came to and remembered nothing, the tale was recounted to him. He decided the best he could do was send his kids to live with his sister. However Aidan refused to go, while Myla was made to do so. Aidan lived out his remaining days in Amn, living under the man's roof. Learning his trade, being sent to the academy and eventually to the navy. On one of his shore leaves Aidan and Ulith once more got into a fight, this time at the dockyard.. and a very drunk Ulith bashed away at a support that held one of the brigands he was constructing, upright. The ship capsized on him. Crushed him to death. Aidan sold the family docks, sent the coin to his Aunt and sister. Then returned to the navy where he finished his tour fighting against Baldur's Gate in the war, as well as a war against the pirates of Mintarn. Eventually he left the navy and Amn all together after the events involving a young woman, his cousin, and pirates... which caused Aidan to desert and defect to the Gate.
Recent happenings: Aidan Thatcher has relinquished a lot of things and now attempts to step up and play his role as the High Lord of the Halls of Inner Light. With his conscience, miss Antje, always correcting him when he's come to close to tainted things. She likewise is very quick to be supportive, at his side and fixing his attire if he looks a mess. Always keeping up appearances. His time there and his restless soul, heart, was always carrying his thoughts elsewhere, places his feet wanted to travel. Eventually after Antje and Aidan split, the man's life was on to new roads and trying to find who he is, through relationships, losing faith and gaining new found faith. After the death of his latest love, Linela.. Aidan sold everything he had and took to the roads swearing off women and love over three years though in his heart he knew that what he called love was something else. He may have loved a few of the women he put his hands on, but something was missing and he couldn't tell any, not even his own heart what that was.
Goals: Aidan has retired his dream for his own shipyard, but works with Luke and others of the great city who need a shipwright and engineer for designs, rebuilds and otherwise both in ships and building construction. Meanwhile making renovational decisions and plans with the Halls.
Time has passed, some long time. But found his way back to nearly the only place he truly calls home. Even if some of the memories in Baldurs Gate and surrounding caused a heart to ache, there was far more good than bad. There was happiness and peace even if sometimes it is hidden behind the clouds for a short time. Being around for his friends and family, and this time not chasing love if at all possible, knowing his heart belongs to an angelic ghost still alive from his past. He really want to make his dream of becoming an extremely well known and professional craftsman as a Shipwright.
