Make Favor of Tymora and Bane of Beshaba Craftable

Unread post by zhazz »

The spell Favor of Tymora and Bane of Beshaba spells are currently unable to be crafted onto a wand or a scroll.

Would love to have them added to the craft pool.

Well mostly the Favor of Tymora, because Beshaba doesn't deserve any attention :D But it would be biased to not include both.

As I understand it those spells are supposed to be locked to clerics of those deities only. If that's true, I think it'd be kind of a weird item that is only usable by cleric of either of those deities and would fizzle for anyone else. Why not just prepare the spell?

They are only for clerics of those faiths, yes. Though there are several other spells that bypass normal restrictions too. E.g. Cleric of Mystra being able to put Lesser Mind Blank (4th level) onto a wand due to one of the domains granting the spell at 3rd level.

Perhaps a middle-ground solution, which can apply to all deity specific spells would be for the crafted wands/scrolls to only work for followers of that deity?

I personally think it makes sense that those faith-specific spells are restricted particularly to clergy of the said faith and not branched out to the simple lay faithful.

In the book it's from, Champions of Valor, you have to take a feat in order to even cast Tymora's Favor at all. The feat is called Initiate of Tymora. Without the feat you don't get the spell added to your book.

The book doesn't specifically mention what happens if a nonfaithful without the feat uses it via wand, but I think most DMs would rule that it would fizzle.

There's a difference between domain spells and deity specific spells though. And also, it's Balance domain, so definitely not Mystrans. Grumbar, Oghma, Silvanus and Waukeen on the other hand...
