Change item icon

I already asked in another old post but didn’t get an answer, so I’m asking again here.
How does changing item icons work now? If I use the appearance kit, the only possible target is an empty spot on the floor where I spawn a mannequin and open the interface that lets me change the 3D model, but not the icons.

Move an item to the first slot in your inventory.
Right click Appearance Kit, click Icon Changer.
Click Change Icon
Next to your heart's content, "Finish, Save icon" when done.
