Mendel
Full name:Mendril Oakenshadow
Image
  • Appearance
  • Race: Wood Elf
  • Age: 140
  • Height: 170 cm
  • Weight: 70 kg
  • Eyes: Brown
  • Hair: Dark Brown
  • Personality Profile
  • General Health: In good health, trains regularly
  • Deity: Rillifane Rallathil
  • Base Class: Ranger
  • Languages: Common, Elven, Sylvan, Draconic
  • Weapon of Choice: Kamas, Longbow

Background:
Mendel was born among the scattered sylvan villages of the High Forest, raised beneath ancient boughs where stone was rare and silence was valued. From a young age, he was trained in the ranger’s path - as most wood elves are - learning to move lightly through undergrowth, to read the forest’s signs, and to defend elven lands from those who would despoil them. Agile, strong, and patient, Mendel grew into a capable woodsman who preferred the honest simplicity of nature and small communities over the press and permanence of cities. Large stone structures, especially those imposed upon forests, unsettled him; to Mendel, they felt like scars upon living land.

Humble by nature and sparing with words, Mendel listens far more than he speaks. He weighs the views of others carefully, though he rarely engages in long conversations unless necessity demands it. Like many of the Tel’Quessir, he chose to ignore the Elven Retreat, remaining behind to guard the woodlands and the scattered elven settlements of Faerûn. This choice shaped him deeply, opening him to cooperation with other races - particularly humans and dwarves - whom he came to respect through shared hardship. Yet his history left scars as well: Mendel harbors a deep hatred for orcs, whom he holds responsible for the fall of Eaerlann, and trusting a half-orc comes difficult to him, no matter their deeds.

Though trained as a ranger, what truly defines Mendel is not a spiritual bond with nature, but rather an unyielding pull toward the unknown and untamed. That restless curiosity is what eventually drove him from the village of his youth and onto the roads of Faerûn. He wandered widely, never lingering too long in one place, sustaining himself by escorting merchant caravans, tracking missing travelers, and lending his skills where the wild pressed too closely upon civilization.

His path eventually carried him to the Sword Coast, escorting a caravan southward. It was in Nashkel that Mendel met Laisren, a meeting that would quietly but profoundly alter the course of his life. From Laisren, Mendel learned that skill alone was not enough - that one must fight for a reason. He was reminded of his duties as a Tel’Quessir, and perhaps more importantly, of what it meant to belong somewhere. For a time, that sense of home was found in Doron Amar. Fate, however, proved unkind; circumstances forced Mendel, Laisren, and their companions back onto the road, searching once more for a place in the North they could truly call their own.

In battle, Mendel favors swift, evasive, hit-and-run tactics - striking hard and vanishing before the enemy can respond. Since his arrival on the Sword Coast, however, Laisren has tempered these instincts with more disciplined and organized forms of combat. Even so, those who fight alongside Mendel know him as eager - sometimes too eager - to rush into danger, not always pausing to consider the consequences if the cause feels just.

Mendel’s spontaneity, reserved demeanor, and difficulty with social norms have earned him a variety of labels from those who do not know him. Some call him strange or arrogant; others, judge him more cruelly. Such judgments mean little to him. Mendel has long learned that understanding is rare, and that the forest - unlike people - never misnames what it sees.

Unbeknownst to many, Mendel’s path has also drawn the quiet attention of the Harpers. His travels, his choices, and his willingness to act in defense of balance and freedom have marked him as a useful - if unconventional -agent. He does not seek recognition, nor does he relish intrigue, but when the cause aligns with his principles, Mendel answers the call.

Ever moving between road and woodland, duty and solitude, Mendel remains what he has always been: a watcher at the edge of the wild, guarding what still stands, and searching - perhaps unknowingly -for a place that feels like home once more.

For a time, Mendel chose to step away from the Sword Coast altogether. Drawn by love rather than duty, he spent several quiet years with his wife, Nai, far from the roads and conflicts that had defined his life. There, in seclusion and simplicity, he trained in the disciplined ways of the monk - not to abandon his path as a ranger, but to temper it. The training taught him restraint where once there was impulse, reflection where there had been restlessness, and patience sharpened into resolve. Those years grounded him, deepening his bond with Nai and clarifying his purpose: that love, nature, and duty need not stand in opposition. When Mendel eventually returned to Sword Coast, he did so not as a man fleeing responsibility, but as one who understood it more fully - ready once more to serve the balance of the wild and answer the quiet call of the Harpers.

The Three Pillars of Mendel’s Duty
Pillar Organization Focus
The Shadow The Harpers Fighting tyranny and maintaining the political balance of the Sword Coast.
The Soul The Green Enclave Preserving the natural order and the "Old Ways" of the druidic circles.
The Blood En Dharasha Everae His sacred duty as a protector of the En Darasha Everae in the Misty Forest.

Notable Items

Whisperfang: The Silver Sisters
"Life is a circle; these blades simply complete it."

Image Item Type: Twin Alchemical Silver Kamas
Pillars: The Shadow & The Blood
Craftsmanship: Star-Iron core with Silver plating
Enchantments & Lore:
  • Moon-Dampened Edge: Grants a bonus to Hide and Move Silently. The blades eat the light, allowing the Ranger to remain a ghost in the mists of the Sword Coast.
  • Villi’s Vigilance: Grants a bonus to Spot. Attuned to the "unnatural," the blades vibrate in the presence of shifters and undead, sharpening Mendel's focus.
  • The Winter’s Bite (1d4 Negative Damage): Represents the inevitability of decay. A strike from Whisperfang saps the life-force of the foe, leaving behind a frost-rimed, darkened wound that refuses to heal easily.
  • The Pure Strike: As silvered weapons, they bypass the defenses of lycanthropes and supernatural threats, fulfilling Mendel’s Harper duty to hunt the darkness.

The Verdant Pulse
"A rhythmic echo of the High Forest, beating across the miles."
Image The Verdant Pulse

Appearance: A single, crystalline leaf that appears to be carved from emerald glass, though it feels like warm living tissue to the touch. It is worn simply on a cord of braided leather.

The Connection: In the High Forest, these artifacts are known to fall only from the trees that have witnessed a sacred union. This specific leaf is tuned to the life-force of Nai.

Properties & Lore:
  • The Soul’s Echo: When Mendel presses the leaf, he sends a "pulse" of warmth through the Weave to Nai. It is a silent message that transcends words: I am here. I am whole.
  • The Living Glow: The crystalline structure glows with a soft, rhythmic light when Nai is thinking of him or responding with her own pulse. It acts as a compass for his heart.
  • Instinct of the Bound (Skill Bonuses): The leaf serves as a constant, subconscious tether to the natural world and the one he loves. This spiritual resonance sharpens Mendel’s senses, granting him a heightened Spot for intruders and a preternatural Survival instinct in the wild. When he moves, the leaf helps him harmonize with the forest’s own rhythm, making his efforts to Hide and Move Silently feel as natural as a shifting shadow.
  • The Anchor: To those who ask "Where is Nai?", Mendel offers no answer but a hand placed over this token. It is the tether that keeps the Harper-Villi from drifting too far into the shadows of the Sword Coast.

The Anchor
Nai’Kabael Dy'thilen - viewtopic.php?f=20&t=29976&p=384563
Nai isn't just a fourth pillar; she is the connective tissue that holds the other three together. If the triad of Shadow, Soul and Blood represents Mendel’s work and oaths, Nai represents his purpose.

Nai’s Integration into the Triad

The Spiritual Anchor of the Green Enclave
Because Nai is a druidess, his service to the Enclave is personal. When he protects the natural order, he is protecting her world and the sanctity of the High Forest. His Enclave duties are a shared language between them - while he is the "blade" in the field, she is the "heart" of the grove.

The Motivation for the Harper
Mendel fights the "old evils" and tyranny of the Sword Coast so they never reach the High Forest. His work with the Harpers is essentially a perimeter defense for the life he built with Nai. He endures the shadows of the Harpers specifically to keep the light of their sanctuary pure.

The Heart of the Villi
As a protector of the En Darasha Everae, Mendel guards elven heritage. His marriage to Nai - and the exchange of his true name - is the most sacred expression of that heritage. His title as Villi isn't just a rank; it's a vow to ensure that the culture and people Nai belongs to remain safe from external threats.
How Nai and Mendel met
Written by seedsofdoubt - viewtopic.php?p=384563#p384563

One of the first people that took interest in her was Celduil, the high Ranger of the Elder Circle. He coaxed her out of her hiding gently and she began following him around like a lost puppy. Soon she began developing feelings for him. Feelings she did not understand as this was all new to her. He invited her to become a member the Elder Circle, also known as the Druid’s Grove. She wanted very much to be part of their “Pack” but first she would have to pass a series of tests which she took very seriously. Failing the test of strength in battle at first, she kept trying until she finally passed with him looking on in the shadows. All the while her feelings for him developing into her first crush or puppy love. Until the one day when she met his mate and her fragile heart was nearly broken. She immediately became submissive to the two and tried to forget how she felt about him by distancing herself from him.

Then one day she was hiding in the bushes in the FAI area listening to two Elves and a Dwarf discussing the Orc war. Laisren, Mendel and a strange Dwarf named Durin. Laisren noticing her hiding asked her to come forward. He didn’t seem hostile but she was still wary of the three but came out of the bushes anyway. She told them of what happened to her family and why she was there now. “Orc Kill Nai Pack”, she said with a growl. Laisren was patient and kind and the Dwarf Durin was… scaring the hell out of her offering her pickled Orc Feet which she promptly turned down. Then there was Mendel, so quiet and stoic, he intrigued her. She stared into his eyes as if trying to stare into his soul. Something drew her to him but then she didn’t know what.

She was traveling through the Halfling village of Gullykin one day and being lost, spotted the forest and headed straight for it, not knowing the dangers that awaited her beyond the safety of the small town. Laisren hearing her casting stopped her thankfully and invited her into their small camp nearby. Luthien was warm and inviting to her and took the time to try and speak with and understand her. Once again Mendel was there quiet and stoic as usual seeming to be in Reverie at the time. She asked Laisren about him and learned he was fond of wine. Not ever experiencing wine she equated it to the effects of bad mushrooms. “Bad mushrooms make bad hunt” she said scolding him. Laisren offered her to be in their “pack”, they didn’t speak very much about it at the time though. Laisren then asked her, in so many words she thought, to break Mendel of his wine habit. Her being drawn to him, this task was impossible to refuse.

She next saw Mendel in the Fai at the auctioneer doing some “trading” as she called it and began to stalk him. Unknown to her, he spotted her behind the merchant stall and slipped into a shadow then ending up behind her. He whispered from the shadows “why are you stalking me?”. She jumped and almost tripped over herself as she was caught. She was shaking like a leaf as she stood there and tried to explain herself. “Lais say help Mendel” “Mendel no Mushroom” “Mushroom make bad Hunt”. She then tried to explain about the wine which he took as she wanted some and offered her his flask of wine to her. She offered him a trade of some Leaves in hopes he would eat them to “detoxify” his body from the alcohol. Happy with herself for procuring the flask, she went on her merry way taking the flask with her. She went hunting for Laisren to give him the flask, as If it was her prize and proof of her quest that he sent her on. He couldn’t believe it when she handed it him. “How did you get this flask from Mendel?” He asked with shock on his face. She answered with a shrug saying very simply, “Mendel give to Nai”. Little did he know she poured out the wine and replaced it with healthy fruit juices and herbs.

She began following the Elves of En Dharasha Everae “The Elves of the North” around getting to know them and hunting with them. Especially Mendel, with whom she started to develop strong feelings for.
“Where is Nai?”

the question follows Mendel wherever he treads upon the Sword Coast, spoken by companions and strangers alike since his return from the High Forest. Each time it is asked, the ranger’s eyes drift shut, as though shielding something too fragile for the world to see. In the silence that follows, memories surge unbidden: the whisper of leaves beneath moonlight, the warmth of her hand entwined with his, the glow of her gaze when they stood beneath the ancient oaks and bound their lives to one another

Image

In the heart of the High Forest, Mendel and his druidess wife Nai wove their lives together in a union bound as much to the wilds as to each other. Their marriage was not only an oath of love but also a vow of shared purpose, joining their spirits with the eternal rhythms of nature. To mark this bond, each bore a tattoo crafted with reverence and meaning. Mendel’s bore the form of a mighty oak, its roots and branches curving into a perfect circle, within which two wolves—symbols of their partnership—moved in balance. Nai’s tattoo mirrored his, the same oak, but beneath its canopy shimmered the moon and stars, representing her devotion to the cycles of life and the mysteries of the natural world. When seen together, their tattoos formed a single design, as though one could not be whole without the other. Only Nai knows Mendel’s true and full name, whispered when they exchanged their vows beneath the moonlight, a secret as sacred as the bond they share.

Though the world beyond calls with its endless troubles, the two made the High Forest their sanctuary, where love, nature, and spirit are forever intertwined. However, Mendel’s duty as both a ranger and a Harper eventually drew him back to the Sword Coast, where shadows stirred and old evils lingered, leaving Nai to guard their home and the bond they forged until fate would reunite them once more.

The Three Pillars - Stories for each pillar and the conflicts that shaped Mendel into the character he is today

The Shadow
Fighting tyranny and maintaining the political balance of the Sword Coast.
First Steps - The descent into the deeps

The silver Harper pin felt like a cold coal in Mendel’s palm as he stood before the ruins of Durlag’s Tower. It was here that the weight of his new oath truly settled. The intelligence was clear: the balance of the Sword Coast was shifting, and the answers lay not in the canopies he loved, but in the lightless veins of the world. He needed to reach the Underdark.

The half-elf ( and Mendel's close friend) Mealir had warned him about the dangers before they departed but also provided Mendel with his notes. Though Mealir remained behind, his counsel acted as the catalyst for the journey.

The actual trek was a grueling descent through history and horror undertaken by only three: Mendel, the elven druid Dral, and his venerable mentor, Laisren. For days, the trio carved a path through the crumbling geometry of Netherese ruins, where the air tasted of stale magic and old sorceries. They moved through twisting mazes that defied logic, fighting back skittering beasts that had never seen the sun and shadows that seemed to peel themselves off the damp stone walls.

Dral’s nature-calls felt distant here, muffled by the crushing weight of the rock above, but Laisren’s steady presence acted as a beacon. Mendel, usually the one to lead in the woods, found himself a student of the dark. He watched how the moss grew in the absence of light and how the echoes shifted when a predator approached.

On the fifth night, the air changed. The scent of damp stone was replaced by the sharp, metallic tang of the Underdark. As they stepped into the vast, bioluminescent cavern, Mendel did not look back. He drew a fresh piece of parchment and he began to map the bottlenecks of the Netherese maze and the specific protections needed to survive the crushing pressure of the deep.

The Ranger was gone; the Shadow had begun his work. Since then, Mendel maintains detailed maps of the path through the Netheresse Ruins, along with a list with the necessary protections

The detailed maps Mendel had drafted of the Netherese ruins and the paths from Durlag’s Tower came to use much sooner than he had anticipated. The ink was barely dry on his warnings about the Underdark’s pressure before the Harpers summoned him for a mission of high-stakes extraction.

Up until that moonless night, Mendel was known in the secret circles of the Coast as a notorious Drow hunter - one who saw the dark elves as a singular blight to be pruned from the natural order. But the "Shadow" duty demanded a different perspective. A follower of Eilistraee had contacted the Harpers with a desperate plea: a female Drow, a runaway from the depths, was in possession of a powerful artifact. She was being hunted, and not just by her own kin. The Red Wizards of Thay were moving with aggressive speed to acquire the relic for their own twisted ends.

A small group of Harpers was tasked with the retrieval. As they moved through the lightless veins Mendel had so recently mapped, he found himself standing face-to-face with the followers of the Dark Maiden.
Hidden: show
Image
For the first time, he did not reach for Whisperfang with the intent to kill. Instead, he watched the silver-haired followers of the Dark Maiden dance through the shadows, protecting their kin with a grace that mirrored the elven rites of his own High Forest. It was a shattering of a life-long prejudice. He realized that even among the dark kin, there were souls worth protecting - those who had traded the spider’s web for the moon’s path.

The mission was a tense success. The Harpers secured the artifact, spiriting it away to a location known only to a handful of high-ranking agents. The Red Wizards were left chasing shadows in the Netherese mazes.

Since that night, the Harpers have carefully cultivated a relationship with the followers of the Dark Maiden, using the connection to keep a pulse on the movements of the deeper Underdark. And while the world still knows Mendel as a Drow hunter, he now carries a secret understanding: that the silver of his blades and the silver of Eilistrae’s moon are not so different after all.
The Hollow Echo

The cell had been quiet for months, a silence that Mendel had initially mistaken for the success of their long-term infiltration project. (REDACTED) had been their chosen blade, sent deep into the shadowed ranks of the (REDACTED). The plan was textbook: (REDACTED) would climb the (REDACTED) ladder, feeding the Harpers the movements of their caravans and the names of their financiers.

But the "Shadow" duty is a dangerous game of mirrors. As the months bled into a year, the intelligence (REDACTED) provided began to feel... curated. It was always just enough to be useful, but never enough to be decisive. Suspicion began to crawl through the cell like damp rot.
The confirmation was a jagged pill to swallow. (REDACTED) hadn't just been compromised; he had been converted. He had seen the "glory" of the (REDACTED)and decided that the Harper's path was a fool's errand.

The extraction was not a rescue, but a reckoning. When (REDACTED) was finally lured back to a "safe house" the air was thick with the scent of betrayal. He was captured without a struggle, his eyes lacking the fire of a man who believed in his cause.

The questioning was clinical. The Harpers do not delight in torture, but they are relentless in their search for the truth. Under the cold light, (REDACTED) admitted to every sold secret and every betrayed scout.

(REDACTED) was killed, his name officially purged from the rolls, replaced by a void in the archives.

Yet, the Harpers do not let a lesson go unlearned. Rumors persist among the initiates that the skull of (REDACTED) was not buried. It is said to be kept in a shadowed corner of a hidden archive - a bleached, eyeless reminder of the part of the Harper code that is never spoken aloud in taverns: We police our own.
The Shadow’s Reflection

The induction of an apprentice is supposed to be a milestone of pride for a senior agent, but for Mendel, it became the catalyst for his most profound terror.

The recruit was promising - sharp, patient, and all other qualities the Harpers look for. Mendel took the responsibility seriously, spending weeks teaching the youth how to read the silence of the trees and the weight of the Harper code. He tested the recruits character with the same relentless precision he used to track the Zhentarim, molding her into what would eventually become one of the cell’s most excellent agents.

But excellence demanded a toll. The hours spent in the dark with a student were hours stolen from the light of the Misty Forest. The friction at home grew until it ignited one evening in the quiet of their sanctuary.

"I want to be a Harper, Mendel," Nai said in hope that they could spend more time together.

Usually, the way Nai spoke his name brought a smile to his face - a rare moment of soft ground in a life of jagged rocks. This time, it brought the "living fear." He tried to tell himself the cold spike in his chest was merely a husband’s concern for her safety, a rational dread of the blades and poisons that defined his trade. But as he looked at her, he knew he was lying to himself. Nai was more powerful than he could ever be.

The truth was far more jagged. Mendel knew that he was a man of three vows, a creature of iron-clad oaths. But he also knew his own breaking point. Over the years, many - even allies - had tried to get under his skin by using Nai as leverage. Those who crossed that line had learned, with bloody finality, that the Ranger could be a monster when his heart was threatened.

If she became a Harper, she would no longer be his "hidden anchor"; she would be a target on the board. He realized then that the only way for Mendel to truly break - to abandon the Shadow, the Soul, and the Blood - would be to lose her. If his enemies could reach her, they would own him. The fear wasn't for her life; it was for the total collapse of the man he had fought so hard to become. For that reason, becoming a Harper was the one and only thing, Mendel would try to keep Nai away from.

Since that first recruit graduated into the field, Mendel learned a lesson more vital than any tracking technique. He learned that to be a true protector, he had to master the balance - not just between his organizations, but between the duty that demanded his life and the woman who gave that life meaning.
Darkhold Rises

Throughout his long tenure as a "Shadow" agent for the Harpers, Mendel had crossed paths with enough Zhentarim agents and Dreadlords. With many, he had exchanged little more than venomous threats; with others, the dialogue was written in the rhythmic clashing of steel. Yet, among the sea of corruption, he had encountered a handful he considered worthy adversaries. Names like Eliphas, Ambrosie, Xavier, and Selengil surfaced quickly in his mind - men who, despite their cruelty, possessed a discipline he couldn't help but acknowledge. Even the current Dreadlord, Zerros, in the few fleeting glimpses Mendel had caught, moved with the calculated precision of a man who was entirely on top of his game. It was this rare, cold mutual respect that occasionally allowed for parleys in the dark, where words were used as tools to prevent the kind of unnecessary bloodshed that served neither the forest nor the Network.

What remained a well-guarded secret, hidden even from many of his peers, was the time Mendel was actually invited into the black stone heart of Darkhold Keep. This occurred long before the era of the "silly treaty" between the Zhentarim and Baldur's Gate - a political farce that Mendel eventually visited in person just to satisfy his own cynicism about its inevitable failure. Upon his invitation, the hospitality of the Black Network showed its iron teeth; his weapons, including the silvered Whisperfangs, were surrendered at the massive iron gates. Throughout the tour, two guards clad in heavy, midnight-black plate armor followed his every step, their presence a silent, clanking reminder of where he stood. He moved through the halls like a ghost in the machine, feeling vulnerable without his steel yet observing the sheer scale of an operation that hummed with the administrative efficiency of a burgeoning empire.
Hidden: show
Image
The official reason for the meeting had been the containment of a rogue Drow sorceress who was wreaking havoc and causing enough chaos to make an alliance of convenience briefly necessary. To this day, however, Mendel remains haunted by the true motive behind that invitation. He often wonders if the tour was a calculated psychological strike - a grand showcase of the Black Network's vast resources intended to prove that the Harpers' resistance was ultimately futile. Or perhaps, more dangerously, it was a subtle attempt to lure him into their ranks. It had happened at a time when his confidence in the Dukes and the political masters of the Coast was at its absolute nadir, and the Zhentarim, ever the predators, may have sensed that the Shadow's anchor was drifting.
The Price of the Pin

The reports had been a festering wound for the Baldur’s Gate cell. Khazark Kahanak, a high-ranking Red Wizard of Thay, had been seen openly wearing a silver Harper pin as a trophy. It didn't belong to any agent Mendel knew, yet the taunt was unmistakable - a declaration that the Harpers were nothing more than prey to the Thayan machine. Even Ameris, usually the most stoic and measured soul in the cell, found his patience exhausted. He wanted blood for the insult. In a rare reversal of roles, it was Mendel who counseled a final moment of diplomacy. He agreed to confront the wizard, but he made his terms clear to his peers: he would ask for the pin’s return exactly once.

The confrontation took place outside the FAI. While Nai, was trying to move innocent bystanders away, Mendel stood his ground, his voice low and devoid of malice as he delivered his request. Kahanak’s response was a bark of arrogant laughter, a refusal punctuated by the shifting of his personal guard and two halflings - who had tragically traded their heritage for the gold of the Red Wizards. The refusal was the final gear turning in the clockwork of the "Shadow" duty. In a blur of silvered steel and precise violence, the place turned into a slaughterhouse. Within moments, the Khazark lay dead on the cobbles, his guard and the two fallen halflings sprawled beside him in the expanding crimson stain.

Mendel reached down and unpinned the silver harp from the wizard’s robe, but the expected sense of justice did not follow. Instead, the silence of the aftermath was broken by a haunting, melodic tremor. A third halfling, an innocent bystander who had witnessed the sudden, surgical brutality, pulled out a violin. He began to play a tune so mournful and hollow that it seemed to vibrate within the very wood of the surrounding buildings. Mendel stood paralyzed, the recovered pin cold in his palm, as the sad notes draped over the bodies of his kin. That melody anchored itself in his memory forever - a somber, permanent reminder that no matter how righteous the cause, assassination is a heavy toll that leaves the soul as scarred as the target.

The Soul
Preserving the natural order and the "Old Ways" of the druidic circles.

The Purge
Chapter 1 - The beginning
Hidden: show
Nothing that day could prepare them for what was about to happen. It all started when Ivan noticed that the Unicorn has disappeared from the Grove. He notified the others by leaving a message inside the Grove. The druids and rangers of the Elder Circle did their best to try to track the missing Unicorn, but with no results. Nai told the group that one of the birds, a crow, did see the Unicorn eating on a patch of clover before raising it's head quickly and looking about before vanishing after the shiny thing on his head started to glow. Upon hearing this, they decided to rest for the night and continue the search in the morning. All members of the Elder Circle had a strange dream that night.

They were all unsettled by that dream and when they all met at the Grove the next day, they tried to make sense of it.
Chapter 2 - The Fall of the Unicorn
Hidden: show
Lambe, Ivan and Alyndra, stayed inside the Grove, trying to make sense of the situation. Their discussions were interrupted by one of the animals, a rat which died from died of poisoning from a Manticore's quills. Then a pixie appeared telling them to go by the river. Mendel joined them as well and along the way they came upon powerful and hostile werewolves. Once they fought the werewolves away, they came upon an awful sight. The Unicorn was laying on a pool of blood, brutally slain. Not believing their eyes the group went closer and inspected the scene.
Image
Their grief was shortly interrupted by a Shadow druid which appeared to them. She informed the group that they were successful since one of the three protectors - the Unicorn - was slain and that the "Purge" has begun. Upon further questioning by the group, the Shadow Druid revealed that "The Purge" was a process in which the lands will become as they were long time ago, destroying everything in the process.

"What once was, will be again." she kept telling the group.

Before disappearing, she also revealed that a powerful beast was summoned to aid the Shadow Druids in that process. It was that beast that killed the Unicorn, cut off his powerful horn and jumped in the river where it disappeared. With much anger and sadness from the overwhelming news, they carried the Unicorns body, where it was buried inside the Grove.
Image
They knew who their enemy was - the Shadow Druids and that Beast. Now they needed to find more, so that they can put a stop in it.
Chapter 3 - More information and a new ally
Hidden: show
Everyone reacted in their unique way, upon hearing the dire news. Some grieved and prayed, others wanted to revenge the Unicorns death by hunting the Shadow Druids and others went out seeking for more information. While inside the Cloakwood, Tyn questioned a male Shadow Druid and he revealed that an Ancient Force, meaning the Beast, would run over the lands until the things are as the once were. He also blamed the Elder Circle for the Black Orc war and the results it had on the Sharpteeth Forest. He also said that the Elder Circle was also to blame for the killing of the lizards and the stealing of their eggs. In his desire for revenge Tyn attacked the Druid and killed it. While Tyn was searching the body for other evidence he was struck down. Tyn survived to tell his story, only because Ivan, Mendel and Fhaeo happened to be around and save him.

The Elder Circle did not take all those accusations lightly. They were worried and since there was nothing they could do about the Black Orc war they decided to try and do something about the lizardfolk. So they next day they went to find the lizardfolk King and discuss. High ranger Celduil lead the group there and the Lizard King introduced himself as Varak. Ivan and Nai handled the negotiations and they got much information from Varak.

In short they found that:
- The Beast name is Kazgoroth
- It seems to be either an aspect of Malar, or somehow related to him.
- He is very ancient, we were told he came before the "furs" came to this world.
- He was banished or killed on the "moon" islands, which are believe to be Moonshae Isles, several years ago.
-The shadow druids took his tooth from the lizardfolk temple to raise him.
-He is known to take many forms, one of them being a "tyrannosaur" that could run on all fours, had acidic saliva and red eyes.
-The chieftain "Varak" told us to ask the golden ash tree of Sharp Teeth Woods, which is the tree inside of our grove, as it may know more.

In addition Varak had another proposition. He offered his clans help in bringing down the beast, if the Elder Circle managed to put a stop to the stealing of the lizards eggs. The group agreed to his terms and told him to meet again when this problem has been dealt with.

Chapter 4 - The Shadow Cook
Hidden: show
After the meeting with Varak was over, the Elder Circle's focus shifted in finding out what was going on with the eggs that were taken by the cook. High Ranger Celduil, led the operations in keeping a close eye to the cook. Ivan, Tyn and him were rotating swifts till they had an opportunity to act upon. Celdui suggested to Ivan to take the shape of a mouse and sneak into the locked room while the cook was away. A cloaked man teleported into the room and saw through Ivan's shaping. Tyn who was outside of the door was let in. The man said he thought the Wild Hunt would keep the Elder Circle busy while he was using the eggs for his purpose. The man attacked them using arcane magic, but was quickly put down by the groups efforts. The cook, who heard the noises came into the room and run to notify the guards. The group reacted quickly and carrying the man they went up to the roof where they made their escape.

They took the man to Varak and they questioned him. He revealed to them the following:
- The cook is a member of the Shadow Circle.
- They use the eggs to divide the lizards to get them to do what they want.
- The eggs are stored in tunnels below Cloakwood, reachable by "the roots", which may mean plant travel.
- The Wild Hunt was meant as a distraction.

In his anger Varak killed the man, so they were not able to question him any further. Varak then asked for the cook to be brought to him as well.

While Nai, Mendel, Lambe, Alyndra and couple of others were fighting the Shadow Druids in the Cloakwood forest and keeping them busy, Celduil found a chance to capture the Cook, while he was taking a break to smoke. He was teleported back to grove where he was questioned. The cook was questioned and revealed to Celduil that he was a shadow druid, working to promote the beast Kazgoroth in their quest to remove human influence on the land. He did not know the location of the lizardman eggs, rather he was a middle-man or pawn which was used to collect the eggs before meeting another secretly in his room which would teleport the eggs out. While the cook was resting the Golden Ash Treant awoke in the Grove, telling Celduil of the coming threat and confirming the man was tainted. Apparently the beast is heading towards the Grove and means to kill the Treant, which was another protector.

Ivan and Tyn, helped Celduil to bring the cook to Varak. The Traveled by plant there and delivered to him. Varak was very pleased for the Elder Circle's actions in restoring the balance pronounced them honorary members of his Clan. He also informed that they will join in the war against the Shadow Druids and the Beast.

Later that day, all Druids and rangers met again inside the Grove to discuss the next steps. It was decided to travel to the Moonshae Islands and find out how to vanquish the beast. If only they knew, that this was the last meeting to be held inside the sacred Grove....
Chapter 5 - The destruction of the Grove
Hidden: show
Nai, Ivan, Celduil, Lambe.... They were all gathered in the Grove. They all sensed that something is not right. Suddenly a strong force of Shadow Druids lead by Kazgoroth attack the Grove and its Keepers, with only purpose to destroy everything. They set the Grove on fire and then begun to attack the animals and and the members of the Elder Circle. Again the group reacted quickly, with the rangers and most of the druids holding the enemy just enough, so that Nai could make a path in her water elemental form and lead the animals to safety. Once the animals were safe, they all tried to stop the Shadow Druids. They all fall their hearts out and gave everything they got to protect the sacred Grove. They were overwhelmed though, and one after another fell to the enemy. Celduil, in a moment of clarity, sensing that they would all die, he hid and slowly carried every fallen outside the Grove where they were all treated. Soon Mendel joined them, only to see the destruction that has been done. Luckily enough, the Grove's magical wards, prevented the fire from spreading to the forest.

It was not over yet. A shadow druid appeared and taunted the group. Having lost everything and their spirits low, they though nothing other than revenge. They attacked the Shadow Druid with everything they got left, but again, Kazgaroth appeared with more Shadow Druids and killed them. Mendel, the last one standing, saw the bodies laying down and he sensed that he was about to meet the same end. He didn't run, but kept on fighting and his last thought was that they had failed, that this was the end...

They all gained consciousness at a nearby hill, close to Gullykin. A elven figure was standing above them, treating their wounds. He told them he was one of the Evereskan rangers of Doron Amar. Trying to figure what has happened they asked the ranger what has happened. He replied, that he saw the fight from far away and came to their aid. He also informed them that he is going to inform Doron Amar of what has happened and track Kazgaroth and the Shadow Druids. They set camp on the hill and rested in order to regain their strength, not believing their luck. As they found the next day though, luck has nothing to do with why they were all alive. Alyndra informed them that the ranger hasn't informed Doron Amar. In fact no ranger with his description was there. Putting their thoughts together they reached to the same conclusion. Kazgaroth shaped into an elven ranger and saved them for whatever sadistic reason. He tasted their blood and then brought them back to life, so that they can feel the pain of defeat and loss...
Chapter 6 - The Aftermath
Hidden: show
Having recovered from their wounds, the group set camp in the Sharpteeth forest, on a hill near Gullykin. The recent losses has taken its toll on everyone especially Nai, who begun to revert back to her animalistic nature. They were all glad to be alive and gathered strength from each other, since there were many things to be done and the war was far from over. Two things were of the utmost importance. The first was to find more information about Kazgoroth on the Moonshae Islands and second locating their guardian, Golden Ash from the destroyed grove. Since they were in no condition to travel to the Moonshae Island, it was decided to try and locate their guardian.

With no other leads the Druids begun to commune with nature and after a while a Treant appeared. It was a survivor of the Black Orc war and was nearby resting and healing. It informed the group that the Golden Ash might be with its sister, a Sacred Tree located in the Lizard men cave. They cave is known to many of the rangers and is under a waterfall in the Cloudpeak Mountains. The group thanked the Treant for his help and without loosing any more time they traveled by plant, nearby the cave.

Once there, they were confronted by a lizard man guard. It took some time to convince him of their good intentions but in the end he believed them, so there was no need for another fight. The group learned that the Golden Ash had been harmed from the wounds of the conflagration and was hybernating now. It has left some seeds though, which have been given to Alyndra for safekeeping and to be planted to the location of the new Grove.

They returned to their camp where the discussed about recent happening. They all realized that they might have lost their home but there is much more they could do to restore the Balance...

Chapter 7 -Moonshae islands
Hidden: show
Members of the Elder Circle were gathered at their camp in Sharpteeth Forest, on a hill near Gullykin. Celduil, Tyn and Ivan have gathered enough information about the Moonshae Islands and how to get there. It was decided that the best way was to Travel by Plant. Just before they were about to depart, a previous Arch Druid of the Elder Circle made his appearance. The Druid, whose name is Uriel Varenal, introduced himself and was willing to help with the current threat.

Once they arrived they were greeted by a druid. One he was informed about the group's purpose and good intentions, the druid led them to the High King.
Image
The King was surprised to learn that Kazgoroth has resurfaced. The group explained to the King that the Shadow Druids managed to resurrect him from a tooth, that had in their possesion. Troubled by the news the King gave them more information about Kazgaroth. It has been raiding the islands for generations, being controlled by Bhaal or Malar - who fight over it's control. Usually Kazgoroth has a source of corruption, attacks the 3 Guardians of the land. Till now he was thwarted every time, though the tolls on land and population are many. The king was able defeat Kasgoroth with his sword.

Thanking the King for his crucial information, the group travelled back to their camp were they discussed their recent findings. It was clear that their Unicorn was the first and the Golden Ash the second guardian. They couldnt figure who the third guardian was, but had enough possibilities.

- Tthe lizardmen of the Cloudpeak Mountains were the Golden Ash went to heal
- The lizardmen of the Cloakwood
- One of the Elder Circle, maybe Alyndra herself
- the seeds she is carrying among other possibilities.

It was clear to them what they have to do next. Identify and protect the 3rd guardian at any cost and locate the source of corruption and neutralize it.
Chapter 8 -Corruption in the Cloakwood
Hidden: show
Still having not identified the 3rd guardian, the Elder Circle decided to locate the source of the corruption. Celduil, had already sent a letter to the Elder Circles allies, informing them about the situation they are in and asking for help. Sir Seth and Lady Gina of the OSR answered the request and join the group for this mission. After a lengthy discussion it was assumed that the corruption would be located somewhere in the Cloakwood. With their only clues being that there should be a water source near the corruption and there should be roots from trees above, the group begun their search, led by the rangers.
Image
While they were approaching FAI Lambe, combined all the clues with his excellent knowledge of the area and he proposed to check the Cave North of FAI first. Lambe led the way, while the rest followed, some of them reluctantly. As they moved deeper into the caves, they could all sense that this location made perfect sense. Once they located the underground river they search more intensively. Uriel's keen senses noticed something at the bottom of the river. He took the shape of a water elemental and dived into the river to inspect it closer. It was a sack, chained on a large rock with something inside. While trying to bring the sack to the surface, its contents were released and a shadow Dragon was formed which attacked the group. They fought against it and with the help of Sir Sseth and Gina they were victorious slaying the Shadow Dragon. Some residue was left behind, which Tyn burned while in a fire elemental form.
Image
The source of the corruption was located and cleansed with the help of some OSR members. They were getting closer but still they had a long way to go since they couldn't identify the 3rd guardian for certain. For that reason Celduil, Lambe, Ivan, Nai and Mendel gathered outside FAI and discussed about where they stood regarding Kazgoroth. The talked about every possibility of who the Guardian was. In case they didn't manage to identify the third guardian in time, the group had devised a plan of how to keep him or her safe, even if they didn't know who that is. This plan is a last resort and only to be used if anything else fails.

Once the small gathering was over, everyone went their own way but they were all thinking about the same thing. Who this 3rd guardian is... They all knew, time was running out
Chapter 9 -Final Battle
Hidden: show
Everything seemed ready. They all spent a number of days preparing for the final battle. The lizard King with his tribe, having repelled the first wave of Shadow Druids, were waiting for the Elder Circle, at the entrance of a cave system with many tunnels. Together they would stand against Kasgoroth and the Shadow Druids. Amongst them were Sir Seth Sieger and Robin Silver.

Image

The King lead the way, followed by the Nai, Ivan and Uriel in their Dragon shape. Celduil, Lambe, Mendel, Alyndra, Seth and Robin followed right behind them. Slowly they cleared the area of the Shadow Druids presence. The Shadow Druids proved to be a strong opponent and in their ranks there were wizards, assassins, crossbow snipers and a Shadow Dragon. During those fights, the Lizard kill fell by the deadly strike of an Assassin. Celduil retrieved the Kings powerful axe, from his body and carried it along the way. In the end, after much effort all caves were cleared and the group was standing at a cave exit which lead to a clearing.

Image

The clearing was to be the ground of a final and long battle. Kazgoroth, accompanied by two mages was waiting for them there. The archers attacked the mages first while Kazgoroth run towards the dragon shaped druids and the Lizards. Sir Seth, casted a powerful spell and to everyone's surprise, banished the beast. They all started to cheer and congratulate Sir Seth, till a roar echoed from far away. Apparently that was not the actual beast, but a mere illusion. They all got back to their initial positions and waited for Kazgoroth to come for them. The battle was long and many were injured. Slowly with the combined efforts of the lizards, druids and rangers they managed to weaken the beast. At that moment, Alyndra shouted to Celduil to use the powerful axe against the beast. The ranger switched from archery position to the axe and launched towards the beast. Kazgoroth still strong, bested Celduil, although the ranger managed to deliver a couple of powerful strikes before he fall. Alyndra picked up the axe and handed to Lambe, who threw it to the beast delivering the final blow. Finally, Kasgoroth was laying on the ground.

Image

Once the beast has fallen, there was a moment of complete silence. Everyone was looking at each other until they all realized that it was the end. They begun treating the wounded and gather the fallen. At this point, as if they all had an epiphany, they realized that the third guardian was the Lizards Tribe.

Stalking The Hunter - The Hunt of a Shadow Druid

For months the Harpers’ cell had received scattered reports of a shadow druid haunting the Cloakwood - no name, no face, only a title whispered in unease: The Hunter. Mendel had lingered only briefly in his small woodland village before duty pulled him back beneath the heavy canopy. He owed the Harpers answers, and the Elder Circle protection. With Whisperfangs resting at his sides, he stalked the deep forest for days, enduring the lonely, often fruitless labor of a hunter who must become more patient than his prey. This time, patience was rewarded.

On a moon-dimmed night he found The Hunter not alone, but bargaining with (REDACTED) amid a sickly green glow. The shadow druid was no zealot acting in isolation - he was an instrument, trading fear and blight for coin and influence. Mendel did not strike; he listened, memorized, and slipped away with knowledge far sharper than steel. By dawn, both the Harpers and the Elder Circle would be warned. It was a rare moment when his oaths aligned so perfectly - and when they did, the sense of purpose was unparalleled

The Black Orc War

Chapter 1 - First Blood
Hidden: show
What started as a normal scouting mission would be the beginning of one of the bloodiest wars. It was Laisren - Captain of the Doron Amar Mathora at the time - , Shynt and Mendel that were sent in the scouting mission to search for a hidden portal of Velharr. Everything begun smoothly, the intel from Catam was solid while Laisren made certain that everyone was well prepared.

The group embarked on their mission. At first only wild life presence could be sensed but there were clear-cut signs of orcish inhabitance. They travelled through the woods for a couple of hours, undetected, and eventually the group arrived at the hill that Catam described to Lairsen. On top of the hill a Black orc shaman could be seen. The Black Orc had to be taken care of, in order for the group to proceed. There was no way around and if they tried to hide, the Orc would have caught their scent. Thats why they decided to strike first. It was a swift kill that Captain Laisren orchestrated perfectly. First Laisren and Mendel approached the orc shaman in stealth. Laisren gave the first strike allowing Mendel to flank the Orc and at that exact point Shyntavayas opened fire from the distance.

After this, the group went on and succefully completed their mission. When they came back and shared their findings, all were satisfied by the outcome. All but the one Rhys Feivra, one of the senior citizens of Doron Amar. The wizard wanted to know everything that took place with the Orc. How it was killed and whether any evidence was left behind. The groups' answers didnt satisfy Rhys, who left immediatly to his Tower to consult his books about an old and forgotten - by most - treaty...
