An Honorable Migration Towards High Hopes

Since the months of rebuilding under Lady Vanders and Lord Alexander Marshall, Triel has taken shape. Word spreads of further open opportunities for the people in the surrounding region. Upon the next few tendays, caravans of hopeful citizens arrive to castle of Triel from a variety of lands. Some merchants arrive from Baldur's Gate seeking a better life and new trading ventures, while others from Beregost wear the bright yellow colors of Morning Lord. Among the new arrivals are those few who admit they began life in Darkhold, and have sought a home where they could raise their families. Each of the migrants arrive with a smile and a purpose. While many of them differ greatly, each of them seem to echo:
"To Triel, to new beginnings."

Local Wanderers

Those who travel through the rolling hills of the northern lands have reported back to those in Triel the sight of wandering soldiers. These soldiers would appear without marks of heraldry. While their armored appearance does not stand out, their lumbering gaze gives those passing by a reason to pause. Reports circle back to the wandering soldiers and in the coming days, they are described as many feared. Those soldiers collected on the hills of triel were not soldiers at all, but undead. Short war bands of militia have been sent to deal with these wanderers, but the number of undead increase day by day.

At the Ready

The militia of Triel can be seen gathering a force in preparations to destroy the undead. With scrolls provided by recently arrived the Magistrati of Azuth, their fortifications grow stronger by the tenday. As the days go by the number of undead only accumulates. Nearly one hundred undead stand on the hills of Trielta, staring up at the looming walls of the village. They do not seem attack in force as of yet, but their presence is enough to choke to trade route. Many of the citizens express their frustrations and fears, as the rations are beginning to wane. While the presence of the undead have not resulted in a siege, their lasting existence has reeked havoc on any fundamental imports.

The Survival

While smoke settled from the night earlier in the tenday, the village of Triel worked to move the remnants of the undead from the hills of Trielta. The battle raged on from day to night, and while rumors spread of possible links to drow the Hellriders found only skeletons from nearby utilized in the destruction. The village honored many who participated, one of which went without a name. They were a larger framed woman dressed in a grey hood and robe. To the relief of the community the presence of undead has seemed to fade away from Triel. While few bared witness, some say there was an odd white crystal structure involved.

Cinders and Embers

The dragon's power (AI-generated)
The Hellfire Wyrm failed.

Those were the words that the survivors said, and some people even cheered in knowing that the plan worked. This was probably the first, greatest victory against the dragon, forcing it to come out of hiding. The plan to turn the world into the Tenth Layer of the Nine Hells was stopped by a group of adventurers, destroying and killing a Red Wizard that used to be an old aquaintance by some: Kosmetra Varn.

With her death, the ritual was stopped, and the world was safe once more... however, it was not without cost. The dragon, charged with anger and disappointment, flew toward Triel and razed it to the ground. Little did it know, however, that only a few soldiers remained behind to cover the retreat of the population, soldiers who gave their lives and will be forever remembered for their sacrifice.

True Helmites until the end.

However, Triel was burnt to the ground, and it was nothing but cinders and embers... and yet, hope remained. The shrine to Selune, and the Church of the Triad, withstood the hellfire barrage, and it is rumored that a bright light seemed to shine like a beacon in the village for a time... before it disappeared. Those who eventually heard the rumors, finally felt hopeful.

This Wyrm COULD be defeated... and it will be defeated by mortal hands.

Nonetheless, all of the refugees, including Baroness Vanders, were by now almost at Elturel's doors - away from Baldur's Gate territory, where the Hellriders were preparing to welcome them. It is also rumored that an old man escorted them and enjoyed a conversation with the Baroness, claiming it was a favor for the Warden of Triel.

The Baroness, however, said one thing to her people.

"Today, we mourn. Tomorrow, we'll fight this Wyrm and win. And the day after... we will rebuild."
