Location 15 - The Lion's Way, Junction Pond
A rather unusual spot I noticed on my wanderings along the tradeway, At the junction between the Lion's way to Candlekeep and the Tradeway is a small pond.
Location 3 out of 5
Somewhat safe on the southern side of the pond, there are a few fishing spots along the side, as long as you don't fall in
Catches 4 out of 5
The pond is surprisingly breaming with fish, with a surprise that I managed to catch a sturgeon out of those waters, a small one mind, but a sturgeon still the same. Must be some underground stream connections.
Problems 2 out of 5
You have gnolls and bandits to deal with getting here, and they do wander to investigate why someone fishes in their claimed territory.
Total Score 9 out of 15
If it wasn't for the bandits and gnolls... it would be a nice fishing spot.
I cannot be lost, because I am here, though I may be geogrpahically misplaced.
Location 16 - The Lion's way Beach, or Candlekeep North Beach
Just down from the causeway that leads to Candlekeep is a small rugged but steep path down to a small cove
Location 4 out of 5
I nice little secret cove, though the slope up and down can make it difficult for those with balance issues.
Catches 4 out of 5
The closest spot for sea fishing to civilisation as it's not too far from the Rocky Caravans, which means it's a good spot for catching grunts and groupers, even the occasional octopus.
Problems 2 out of 5
Well, you got the usual Lion's way bandits, gnolls, and also a serious beetle infestation of a nearby abandoned farmhouse, which also means the beach also gets a share of roaming beetles. There is also the problem of a nearby cave of trolls who do venture out at night, which makes dawn and dusk fishing an issue
Total Score 10 out of 15
Again a good place to fish, if it wasn't for the local wildlife and nuisances. Be prepared to defend yourself against such
I cannot be lost, because I am here, though I may be geogrpahically misplaced.
Location 17 - Candlekeep South Beach
Somewhat hidden from the tradeway is possibly the best place for sea fishing. Nestled away from the road, is a wide gentle beach.
Location 4 out of 5
A glorious beach and gentle slopes, the best fishing is up on the dock run by the Bladestone lot. Let 'em know you're there for fishing and they don't mind too much.
Catches 5 out of 5
Best place for sea fishing around, and even caught a few marlin off those docks.
Problems 4 out of 5
The only real problems are it being some distance from the main roads, which means trekking through some troublesome areas to get there, like the Lion's Way or Highhedge, and that you occasionally have to deal with a beetle or badger that wanders on to the beach. If you're fishing near the docks, the guard will keep you safe.
Total Score 13 out of 15
Best place if you want some salt water fishing, even if it's a nuisance to get to. Well looked after by the Bladestone folks.
I cannot be lost, because I am here, though I may be geogrpahically misplaced.
Location 18 - The Shrine of Mielikki North of Beregost
Just off the tradeway between the Lion's way Junction and Beregost, lies a river. Between the road and the river lies a splendid statue to Mielliki, the Forest Queen.
Location 3 out of 5
Somewhat sheltered from rain and wind, the woodland shore is a quietish spot, though some distance from settlements and aid.
Catches 5 out of 5
The stream seems to have been blessed magnificently by the Forest Queen as it is an excellent trout stream, with all sorts of trout easily caught.
Problems 3 out of 5
Goblin caves, ogre dens and the occasional blundering giant, be very prepared to defend yourself.
Total Score 11 out of 15
A good place for fishing, except for the goblins and such, and make sure to pay your respects to Mielikki
I cannot be lost, because I am here, though I may be geogrpahically misplaced.
Location 19 - The High-hedge estate ponds
Not far from Beregost is the High Hedge estate, belonging to a wizard of sorts
Location 3 out of 5
Though close to Beregost and with High-hedge nearby for some sales, it is close to the Candlekeep south beach which tends to be less troublesome
Catches 1 out of 5
Anything of value in those ponds is either claimed by the High-hedge lot, or scoffed by the bears and bugs
Problems 2 out of 5
Dire bears and scorpions are the more common problems, though do not annoy the wizard of High Hedge, rumours say he's got invisible Griffons or something protecting the place.
Total Score 6 out of 15
Better to save your fishing time and head to the beach... unless you want a lot of bear skin rugs.
I cannot be lost, because I am here, though I may be geogrpahically misplaced.
Location 20 - Amn - Nashkel Town
Northern most point of Amn and a good distance uphill to get to.
Location 4 out of 5
On the tradeway and with a safe and plentiful market to sell to, the only thing that lets it down is little access to bait for fishing, so you'll have to haul all your bait from Baldur's gate or Greenest.
Catches 5 out of 5
The mountain river that flows through Nashkel has so many good and safe fishing spots, and does seem like a good spot for salmon runs
Problems 1 or 4 out of 5
Very few problems with the place, it is safe for a town, you just have to deal with the constant Witchsmellers Hunters bothering you and checking your bags for smuggled goods. They do seem to have a vendetta against magic folks so... the scores a bit varied
Total Score 13 out of 15 for non-magic folks, 10 out of 15
Good safe fishing, just spoiled by the border guards.
I cannot be lost, because I am here, though I may be geogrpahically misplaced.
Location 21 - Amn Cloudpeak foothills
Taking the path away from Nashkel up into the mountain range, leads to the foothills of the Cloudpeaks, with a few ponds dotted around.
Location 2 out of 5
Gods the hills... they're gonna be the death of me, not to mention the wildlife
Catches 1 out of 5
There are some ponds not far from the routes, with what look like ancient seating areas, but it looks like any fish worth catching have been scoffed by the giants that now inhabit these ruined ponds
Problems 2 out of 5
Well you've got giants throwing rocks, the sheer altitude you're at can be hard to breath at, and all the weird architecture
Total Score 5 out of 15
There is better fishing around and that giant star seeing thing creeps me out.
I cannot be lost, because I am here, though I may be geogrpahically misplaced.
Location 22 - The other side of the Cloudpeaks
After ascending the foothills, and passing through the Yeti infested pass at the top, there is a pass with a river down to the rest of Amn
Location 2 out of 5
You have to take the short way here otherwise it's a many day trip round the cloudpeaks
Catches 1 out of 5
Any big fish is usually taken by tribe of lizards that live under the pass, supposedly they have were-dragons... I have yet to see them
Problems1 out of 5
Well first you have to get through the pass, and other the top, no doubt fighting your way though yetis, giants, elementals and lizards, just for a few minnows
Total Score 4 out of 15
The frost bite is not worth the fishing here, maybe if there was a faster route here... it might be. if the lizards, yeti, dergarr haven't scoffed any fish of value
I cannot be lost, because I am here, though I may be geogrpahically misplaced.
Location 23 - Super secret Cloudpeak valley
After getting lost in a snowstorm trying to get through the Cloudpeak pass, I stumbled upon this quiet valley
Location 3 out of 5
Well... it's a quiet valley with an old abandoned village, and a deep cut river valley, with some unfished rivers at the bottom of the valley
Catches 4 out of 5
Barely anyone's touched this river, I might be one of the lucky few to fish here
Problems 3 out of 5
Well getting here is a nightmare, and it's freeking freezing here, you're not sure if you're standing in cold mist or waist deep waters, Not to mention seeing the ice temple on the far side of the valley.
Total Score 10 out of 15
The frostbite and the slopes might be worth it for the fishing here. Just make sure to pay your tax to the winterqueen otherwise the score drops to 8 out of 10 and you'll run the risk of becoming a ice-fisher.
I cannot be lost, because I am here, though I may be geogrpahically misplaced.
