Physical description:
Essaar Arkae is tall, thin and long of limb, but not gangly. His skin is a light and transparent blue tone, and to the touch, is cool like refreshing water in the palm of the hand. His eyes are colored by a swirling mix of yellow and purple hues, with deepness to them, like the depths of the great sea. He is not of any great beauty nor does his features stand out to others' eyes, yet his way about him in speaking and movement has a diplomatic calm—his body always seems at rest, like a large mass of water resting in a stable vessel. Normally attired in his traveling outfit of greenish and purple hued attire, he is most often seen with a sturdy hood over his head, which he uses to slightly cover his appearance when in populated areas.
Psychological description:
Essaar Arkae carries himself with a perpetual calm, and does not seem to be easily roused by the movements and actions of the world around him.
Religious views:
As a priest in the Church of Cryptic Transformational Purity, Essaar follows the dogma of the Istishian faith, who are charged as follows: "The eternal Istishia acknowledges change but holds to his essential nature. Do not try to be what you are not; rather, excel at what you are and carry this message of personal excellence to the world. Be flexible but not unreasonable. As the rains flow down to the ocean in the folds of earth and not up mountains, so do the truths of Istishia spread throughout the land through their natural routes, not through rank force. The mysteries of life are to be enjoyed and puzzled over, but realize that some answers do not come in this form or this world, but rather in the next. Realize that the cycles of life are mirrored by the cycles of fate; be prepared to pay the price or reap the reward for the actions of your past or your future."

History
The true origins of Essaar Arkae remain unknown...but what is known has always been considered an auspicious beginnings. In the Year of the Leaping Dolphin—perhaps itself a fact of divine provenance—within the sewers of Baldur's Gate, a homeless soothsaying Gur matriarch discovered a blue-skinned baby within the fresher flowing waters being pumped to above-ground fountains, curled in a peaceful ball with eyes closed and completely comforted by the coursing water that surrounded him. The matriarch raised the babe out the waters and into her arms, declaring an great omen and blessing to those poor peoples that took refuge within the sewers when the streets could not provide adequate shelter or safety. The community understood this child of the waters was of special origin, a Water-born Genasi, abnormal yet treated as an equal among all the others—the Gur themselves, well experienced in the prejudices of society, related well to the weight of difference.
Essaar grew under the watchful care of the Gur community, developing a life and skills both above and below the cobblestones of Baldur's Gate, a life and skills that would suit any semi-street urchin. The adopted Genasi, growing into his own Racial nature, wandered and became a loner among the depths and bowels of the Gate, even at times in his youth exploring the depths of the Chionthar, and the coast, underwater.
As Essaar reached a common age of adulthood, two near simultaneous events brought great change to Essaar's life. The first was the push by Churches and good-natured adventures to eradicate the homeless problem within the lower levels of the city, in the Year of the Dragon. The environment that had kept Essaar "hidden" when needed, the community of homeless that had accepted him and were he felt most at home, moved upward and onward—many of the Gur that were closest to the matriarch that first found him as a babe, even took again to the road.
The second event was the development of presence of the Church of the Water Lord, Istishia, and the temporary arrival of a visiting Full Flood (senior priest), who themselves said they had been guided by the Water Lord to seek out where His domain had manifested within the peoples of the Gate. What the senior priest was looking for was Essaar, though not directly. One thing led to another—rumor of Essaar's heritage was easily enough the "sign" that the senior priest was looking for—and Essaar found deeper meaning, and tutelage, in regard to Essaar's being, and perhaps, even his meaning to be were he was, a why he was, born to the Gate, and what powers he would be blessed with should he gain the blessings of the King of Water.
Essaar would leave with the Full Flood, an acolyte developing his skills related to water, and becoming a Druid within the Istishian church. But a learned study was not a match to Essaar's Water Genasi loner mentality, and soon Essar took to wandering, becoming what was considered a waterwalker, a mystic...and a Seeker in the Church of Cryptic Transformational Purity.
Many years passed, and now it has happened that Essaar Arkae has returned to Baldur's Gate, from request made from the greater Church of Istishia. As is custom within the Church, a serving priest is rotated roughly every 5 years, and as it seems the Gate has had little to no clerical representation even in the recent past. As a city upon two notable bodies of water—one great river and one great sea—the Church seeks to create a greater influence...a role that may or may not be appropriate for the newly robed Essential Servant, who balances a inner, racial nature with a service, spiritual calling.
