Stomping footsteps approached from behind. He turned around and saw a hill giant run at him, swinging a giant log like a club, shouting at him in giant tongue. Kaeren tried to talk to them before. It never worked. But hope dies last, right? "Wait! I do not mean any harm!" He shouted in giant. The reply came in form of an angry swing of the log. Quickly he stepped aside. Dodged! Channeling his ki, his fists started to burn with the power of the sun. The gigantic club swooped at him again. The mighty force was used against it and with a quick swat and a blaze of fire, the club was deflected, alit and flung to the side, out of the giant's hands. Yet the angry creature did not retreat. Instead giant fists began to swing at the smaller man. Another quick step, flaming fists flying and jabbing as fast as lightning, hitting the right spots and the giant fell paralyzed, yet not dead, to the ground. "It will leave a few burn marks but that is still better than broken bones... or worse..." Kaeren thought when looking at the giant.
More footsteps could be heard down the road. Two more giants came running, swinging their logs. "Shall I try again? No, it will not work. They are afraid or enraged. They will not listen. Let them help their friend." Pulling his hood further over those shiny eyes and the fire on his fists out, he quickly fled the scene, running off the road and up a hill.
What was there? A small house, no light inside. It looked abandoned. He cautiously approached it and peeked inside. It was empty aside of a few pieces of furniture. Amongst it a small table with a single candle. "Who might have lived here? A lonely hermit or a family? It was big enough for a small family." His eyes moved along the walls of the building, looking for any hints. "What happened to the inhabitants? The giants? You do not know. Do not judge." With a light smile on his lips he picked up the candle and looked at it. "Who cares if one more light goes out? Well I do." And he lit it. After setting the candle back onto the table he took a stool and set down in front of it. He folded his hands and closed his eyes, meditating. "Here I will wait until dawn. Maybe the place will tell me its story?"
