Syllar Inatris

Post by Shcheglov »

Profile

Full name: Syllar Inatris
Age: 135
Race: Wood Elf
Sex: Male
Date of birth: 1228 DR (Year of the Tundra)
Place of birth: The High Forest
Alignment: Lawful Good
Patron deity: Corellon Larethian
Profession: Wanderer / Monster Hunter
Classes: Swashbuckler (7) / Fighter (2) (Future: Champion of Corellon Larethian)
Primary language: Elven

Secondary languages:
Common (to communicate with the wider world), Sylvan (native to the fey creatures of the High Forest), Illuskan (learned from encounters with northerners), Celestial (studied through religious scriptures of Corellon).

Physical description:
Syllar is a striking figure who carries himself with undeniable, almost arrogant pride. He has the typical coppery-greenish hue of wood elven skin, dark, shoulder-length hair, and a sharp face with an intense, scrutinizing gaze. He wears practical yet finely crafted light armor in shades of sea-green and deep blue, fastened with silver clasps, allowing him maximum mobility for his acrobatic fighting style. A small buckler rests on his arm. He moves with predatory grace, every step measured and deliberate, typical of a seasoned duelist.

Psychological description:
Syllar is gruff, cynical, and quick to take offense. He is incredibly proud, possessing a strong sense of personal honor, and does not tolerate insults toward his kin, his skill with a blade, or his god. He is impatient with incompetence and rarely stays in one place, preferring the life of a wandering monster hunter. However, underneath his prickly exterior and sharp tongue beats the heart of a strictly principled protector who will not hesitate to defend the innocent.

Religious views:
Syllar’s relationship with his patron deity, Corellon Larethian, is absolute and unshakeable, yet it stands in sharp, defiant contradiction to the orthodoxy preached by traditionalist priests like his mother. While the conventional priesthood of the High Forest emphasizes serene contemplation, passive border defense, and refined artistic creation, Syllar views Corellon through a far more primal, uncompromising lens. The supreme warrior, the divine slayer of orcs, and the unyielding protector of the elven race. To Syllar, hollow prayers murmured in quiet forest sanctuaries are not empty, but not enough; true devotion is forged in the dirt, expressed through the fluid, deadly geometry of a well-placed blade, and measured by the number of foul beasts and monsters sent back to the abyss. He considers his relentless quest for martial perfection to be his ultimate, living prayer. He honors Corellon not by obeying the restrictive, isolationist dogmas of local elders, but by adhering to an unbending personal code of honor - never striking a cowardly blow, refusing to show mercy to the sworn enemies of the Seldarine, and testing his absolute limits against the worst horrors Faerûn has to offer. His ambition to claim the mantle of a Champion of Corellon Larethian is not born from a desire for clerical approval, but from a fierce, independent conviction that the Creator of the Elves demands active, aggressive intervention against the dark, rather than quiet, stagnant preservation behind overgrown borders.

Biography

Family
Syllar was born into a lineage deeply rooted in the ancient traditions of the High Forest, specifically within a secluded enclave where the lingering memory of the fallen elven empire of Eaerlann still dictates daily life. His mother - Lyra Inatris - is an unbending, fiercely dogmatic priestess of Corellon Larethian, whose absolute devotion to the theological purity of the Seldarine cast a long, heavy shadow over Syllar's upbringing. She viewed every stylistic deviation in swordsmanship or expression of raw pride as a potential moral flaw, demanding a level of serene contemplation that Syllar's fiery, impatient temperament simply could not tolerate. His father, Kaelen Inatris, is a weathered, taciturn ranger who spent centuries patrolling the perilous northern frontiers of the forest—zones perpetually threatened by the foul demonic taint leaking from Hellgate Keep and the aggressive incursions of Uthgardt barbarians. Kaelen showed affection through stoic silence and grueling physical drills rather than emotional warmth, inadvertently instilling in Syllar a rigid, unyielding survival instinct. Both parents remain alive, residing deep within their woodland sanctuary. Syllar also shares a bloodline with a younger sister, Elara, whose lighthearted curiosity and willingness to treat ancient elven customs with casual amusement drove endless wedges between them; Syllar constantly perceived her irreverence as a personal insult to their heritage. When Syllar finally chose to abandon the safety of the canopy, the parting was not marked by warm farewells or tears, but by a cold, sharp clash of stubborn wills. His parents viewed his departure as arrogant youthful folly, while Syllar saw their strict conservatism as a form of slow spiritual stagnation. Despite the deep emotional chasm and years of mutual silence, an unbreakable, unspoken bond of ancient elven blood still tethers them, though none of them would ever openly admit it.

History
Born in 1228 DR, Syllar was raised beneath the impossibly tall canopies of the High Forest, surrounded by the silent, moss-covered ruins of the ancient elven empire of Eaerlann. While his peers spent their youth mastering the quiet arts of stealth or studying arcane mysteries, Syllar was drawn exclusively to the song of clashing steel. He was trained by veteran blademasters who guarded the forest’s northern fringes, learning a fighting style that treated combat not as a brutal necessity, but as a lethal dance, a direct reflection of Corellon’s own grace. By the time he reached physical maturity, Syllar was regularly thrust into bloody skirmishes against Uthgardt barbarians and, more importantly, the foul demonic spawn bleeding into the woods from the corrupted ruins of Hellgate Keep. It was during these endless patrols that Syllar’s cynicism and arrogance took root. He grew frustrated with the passive, isolationist nature of the High Forest elders who were content to merely hold the borders. To Syllar, defending the remnants of a fallen empire while ignoring the darkness festering in the rest of Faerûn was an insult to the Creator of the Elves. He firmly believed that a true follower of Corellon must be a proactive sword in the dark, seeking out the enemies of the Seldarine rather than waiting for them to strike. Unable to reconcile his aggressive, duelist mindset with the somewhat quiet life of a border guard, he made the harsh decision to leave his family behind and venture into the wider world.

For the past few years, Syllar has been wandering the Trade Way southward, acting as a relentless monster hunter. His self-imposed pilgrimage has brought him to the bustling and treacherous region of the Western Heartlands and the Sword Coast. Far from the pristine glades of his youth, he now navigates human cities and dangerous wilds, offering his blade to strike down unworthy beasts and seeking out legendary foes. Every duel won and every monstrosity slain is a calculated step toward his ultimate, singular obsession: to prove his absolute martial supremacy and officially earn the holy mantle of a Champion of Corellon Larethian.

Future
Syllar’s vision of the future is defined by a fierce, unyielding drive to achieve absolute martial supremacy and claim the holy, demanding mantle of a Champion of Corellon Larethian. Unlike the quiet, contemplative ascetics nurtured within the hidden sanctuaries of the High Forest, Syllar’s path is forged in the dirt, blood, and chaos of the open world. He seeks to push his discipline and fighter training past mortal boundaries, viewing every grueling trial not only as a test of skill, but as a deliberate defiance of his mother’s dogmatic condemnation. He does not wish for her approval through quiet obedience; instead, he intends to earn a stark, undeniable recognition through raw, uncompromised mastery of the blade, proving that his aggressive interpretation of the Seldarine's will is every bit as valid as the orthodoxy of the elders. His future is laid out as a relentless, itinerant crusade across the perilous roads of the Western Heartlands and the Sword Coast. He deliberately hunts down the most dangerous monstrosities, corrupt warlords, and wretched beasts of the frontier, treating every near-fatal skirmish as a harsh, visceral prayer to the Creator of the Elves. He cares nothing for settling down, building a homestead, or seeking comfort in human civilizations as such mortal distractions and temptations are anathema to an elf of his pedigree. Every scar he gathers and every duel he survives serves as a stepping stone. Ultimately, Syllar’s long-term ambition is to one day turn his back on the chaotic human lowlands and march back beneath the emerald canopies of the High Forest. Yet, he refuses to return as the abrasive, exiled youth who stormed away in bitter frustration a decade ago. He intends to come back as a living, terrifying avatar of Corellon's wrath - a fully realized Champion of Corellon Larethian whose sheer presence commands absolute, grudging awe. By doing so, he aims to force his mother and the traditionalist priesthood to acknowledge a bitter, revolutionary truth that the true grace of their god is not found in the passive stagnation of guarded borders, but in the merciless, unyielding edge of a blade that refuses to break against the dark.

Heirloom item
(Note: Specific stats, mechanical effects, and upgrades for these items are entirely up to DM preference, these are just placeholder ideas. Im fine with items being totally different both item type and what it does, if DM team finds something more suitable to what they can and want to do.)

1. Beautifully carved silver cloak clasp that belonged to his mentor. It is said to lightly guide the wearer's blade when they are defending the weak, making their strikes more precise.

2. A tarnished ring worn by a former Champion of Corellon in Syllar's family line. It is currently dormant and needs to be "awakened" by the honorable deeds of its current wearer.

3. Neckale with minerals from around a sacred tree in his homeland. It grounds him in the heat of battle, helping him resist mind-altering magic that would break his duelist focus.

Plot hooks

Anything related to what happened or could have happened in High Forest or/and related to his family, and/or his deity, there is lot of space. More precise examples are below:

Syllar’s arrogant demeanor recently caused him to openly mock a skilled mercenary or a local noble duelist. That person is now actively looking for him in the region to force a public duel to the death and restore their honor.

During his travels, Syllar spotted an ancient, beautifully crafted elven weapon being wielded by an unworthy local bandit (or sold by a shady merchant). Syllar refuses to just steal it back like a thief; he is determined to reclaim it through a lawful challenge or an honorable duel, which might prove difficult if the current owner refuses to fight fair.

Syllar recently found a dying elven traveler on the road. With their last breath, the traveler made Syllar swear on Corellon's name to deliver a specific sealed letter (or a holy symbol, item or messeage by spoken words) to a contact in the Baldur's Gate region. Syllar does not know who this contact is, what they look like, or why the delivery is so important, but his strict honor forces him to complete the task.
