Rumours of Baldur's Gate

Unread post by all_distorted »

Rumours start circulating from one man to another, spreading on the streets, reaching the ears of curious citizens and guests of Baldur's Gate. The news supposedly came from one of the guests of a masquerade hosted recently at the Helm and Cloak in the Palace District. They say it started as a success, with the guests being entertained in a fashion, usual for such parties; but it ended as a disaster, with the gold collected as entrance fees stolen and a man being murdered. The other part of the rumour about a presence of a vampire at the masquerade who supposedly even abducted one of the guests would normally be whispered and likely to be met with disbelief.

But how was it possible to happen at such a prestigious place? Was it due to imprudence of the Lady hosting the party who didn't hire enough guards to ensure security, and with that put the lives of the guests at danger? Or, given that culprits were never found, perhaps it all was planned in advance as a depraved form of entertainment for the nobles?

It is rumored that a tall and lean Elven man, his features and body hidden by a black cloak and hood, has been asking travelers questions along the Tradeway and in the city of Baldur's Gate itself.

The questions center around a Druidic word, seemingly a Title, some who are educated in lore might recognize as the title "Seeker."

He has been spreading word he wishes to find these individuals and speak with them.

He was also heard grumbling to himself that he no longer knew as many as he once did...having been away for a time.

For those who frequent The Wood of Sharp Teeth, they may occasionally see a man, dressed in dark robes and a full faced hood cleaning up around The Temple of Bane. He has been moving rubble and trash outside the temple walls, and gathers wood for the fire that will destroy the decaying bodies.

A few days ago a man named Kierran Naver went berserk for some reason inside the helm and cloak inn. The witnesses say that he fought Flaming fist member named Justin Crownsilver, killing him and after that taking hostages.

Only when paladin Jonas came, helped Justin to his feets and aided him, were they able to defeat the villain. The odd thing is, the witnesses all claim that Kierran did not fight Jonas, more like run to his sword.

Justin, Jonas and a unkown woman was seen dragging the man named Kierran to the Flaming fist headquarter, after a while Jonas returned to the Inn and told that the man is arrested and will not threat anyone anymore.

Luckily in the end, no hostages were hurt, but the persons who were at the inn when it happened all wish to see Kierran Navers head being removed from his shoulders, a thing that will propably happen after he attacked Justin Crownsilver.

When asked from the Flaming fist, they keep silent about it, apparently no official report is available about this matter, and the city of Baldurs gate is waiting for further news about the incident.

Justin Crownsilver, Jonas Roknarok and the Fist is praised for their swift actions in dealing with the matter, once again it is proven that villains such as the man named Kierran, will not live long in the fair city that is protected by the Flaming fist!

Travlers talk of the sounds of a hammer in The Wood of Sharp Teeth during the night. As dawn arrives a few notices nailed to a few trees near the entrance to the wood can be seen.

Written in crimson ink, the notice reads:

All those of false faith beware. These lands have now been claimed by Lord Bane and His servants. All Brothers and Sisters in faith, rejoice, for He has come.

The man who had attacked Captain Crownsilver and threatened peoples lives in the Cloak and Helm Inn has died in his cell.

Noone is really sure how this happened, but some rumours about poisoned food fly around here and there. The Fist members stays rather silent about the incident, but other rumours state that the prisoner was violently beaten up multiple times, making few blaming fingers point to the Fist. The culprid did not get lots of sympathy from the citys residents though, as death would have propably been his faith anyhow.

The man named Kierran Naver was buried and soon forgotten.

After hearing about Kierran's death, it is said by a few Fist soldiers that the paladin Jonas Rokranon marched straight into the Fist Headquarters and demanded to speak with Duke Eltan himself. As the Duke knows Jonas, the audience was granted, and Jonas went on a tirade about how the assassin could be killed in the prison after Eltan allowed Jonas to try to redeem the man. In the end Jonas was dismissed, but as he left he turned to the Duke, looked at him squarely, and said:

Foul Minions of the Lord of Darkness,

These Lands belong to all who respect the Land and would see them unfouled by darkness. Your claim is none and should you foul the land with your taint, your blood shall feed the trees, the birds, the bears and all that live within the Wood of Sharp Teeth.

You have been warned.

Rumor has it that somethig valuable was stolen from Lord Travenhurst, moments before the drow descended upon Beregost. Travenhurst remains tight-lipped about what was stolen, though it is rumored two adventurers who know Travenhurst intimately know the full story.

It is intriguing, but that rumor only touches the surface. Another rumor says that found at on top of the pile of bodies left in the villains' wake... was a stiletto dagger stuck through the middle of a paper mask, black as night.

Those who has spent some time to the south or have knowledge regarding the criminal underground would recognize it immediately as the calling card of the Shadow Thieves.

A bizarre rumour seems to have taken hold of Baldur's Gate recently.

Travelers visiting the Elfsong Tavern gossip about apparent sightings of an obscure creature by local farmers and lumberjacks alike. The creature seems to appear randomly throughout neighboring woods, most frequently along the road to the south, though it was also spotted in close proximity to the city, in the farmlands.

According to the majority of these stories, the creature is of short height and posseses ebony skin, covered with exotic, colourful paint markings. Witnesses claim, however, that its most striking feature is an ornate, feathered wooden mask it is seen wearing, along with primitive clothes and various strange fetishes hanging from its limbs. Supposedly, it can also be heard speaking in a weird, alien language, ocassionally using animal sounds such as growls and hisses.

Some accounts claim that it may be a rare form of a pixie, others look for a connection with the infamous imp case. An increasingly large group of peasants has apparently begun to make small offerings to the creature, revering it openly as some kind of forest spirit.

Regardless of its true nature, a question remains about the creature's motives. Those travelling south recount the unnerving feeling of being watched from time to time; what's more, a wanderer from Silver Marches claims to have found the "pixie" spying on him from the bushes, though it mysteriously eluded capture.

Since no harm has been done and no hard evidence is present, such rumours are being dismissed as fairy tales for housewives and children.

After all, they laugh, who would believe in a masked fairy?

It is widely rumored that when deliberating on the captured drow, Duke Eltan sent for a member of the Weave Masters for their input. Jonas Rokranon answered the call, and he and the Duke patched up their friendship over the harsh words they had spoken previously. It is reported that despite Jonas saying that it would not be right to kill the drow if they were truly followers of Eilistraee ("Of who?" ask most of the city's people), he nevertheless apparently pledged the support of the Weave Masters in whatever Eltan's decision would be on the matter. Supposedly the paladin is a Sentinel in the Weave Masters, but the question remains whether he had the authority to make such a claim on behalf of the guild. The people of the Gate seem to want to believe he did, and are pleased that the Fist and Weave Masters are cooperating, for now at least.

Valenthel Wyndsoul is overheard by many townsfolk of Baldur's Gate talking about the inherent evil in all drow, how they can't be trusted, and how the Wyndsoul family will strike down any drow seen on the surface.

There are rumors floating about that Valenthel has slain one drow (or was it several), that his family has been attacked by drow in the past, and that he is actively hunting the escaped drow.

Many townsfolk remember tales of Kahlen Wyndsoul, first Overwatch of the Weave Scouts and his hunts of drow on the surface, of Keagan Wyndsoul , first Captain of the Weave Guardians and his forays into the Underdark... and they know the Wyndsoul family is one to be taken serious for their hatred of the foul race.

Tolerance is treason. The motto is spreading.

Zealote wrote:On the wasteland, piles of skulls and broken bones lie across the landscape. The Fist soldiers guarding the limits to the Fields of the Dead are half asleep. Morning mist and dust mixed together make the view blurred, and from far away, the tired eyes of the soldiers can only see a shape approaching. The man comes closer and closer, and walks oblivious past them, with nothing but a nod.

He stops at the South Gate. Looks up at the walls with a smile and makes his way to the Elfsong. His cloths dusty, and his face dripping with sweat.

Ujio has arrived.
Rumour spreads like wildfire amongst the tavern wenches and barmaids of a dusty, battle weary but sexy adventurer whom they once had known as Uijo. The rumours of him being turned into a woman bite the dust as first one but then others catch sight of the man in all his travel weary glory. Word is passed from wench in Elfsong to maid in Blaze and Saddles, to lady servers in the Helm & Cloak. The Innkeep of the latter Inn sends a runner to Beregost and Candlekeep taverns to inform the owners to get in more staff as their current ones might be getting 'waylaid' and busier with a certain customer's return and they might not fulfill their expected tavern duties.

As the doxies start to preen and giggle, so the male customers of the bars and inns start to grumble..."time ta be lockin' the wives up"
