The kitchen and staff of the Last Anchor seem to be going with a fair amount of commotion and business starting tonight in a pace and set of tasks that promise to continue for several more days. When asked, the staff merely reply they are preparing for a wedding party of some of the Anchor's residents, though they don't give any specifics and note the party isn't at the Anchor itself.

A new plaque is hung above the Last Anchor's main room hearth
And the Seas of Chaos continue to rage about us, yet we cling to our Last Anchor.

The Last Anchor in Ulgoth's Beard was abuzz with activity the other day as the doors were open for both residents of the small hamlet and any guests from out of town. Activities during the festive moment included dancing, drinking, socializing, and even a bit of rowdy brawling. (though that was done outside)

While the lovely proprietor Lannia Ranloss was present for much of the party, her husband, the large swordsman known as Derik was noticeably absent. This was explained later when Lannia announced he was downstairs tending to the baby.

Yes, baby.

It would appear that the pair of adventurers who have made Ulgoth's Beard their home have made good on their threat to raise children there. When it was noted that Lannia had clearly not been pregnant for the last many months, it was revealed that the pair had accidentally run afoul of a mage's magical experiment in creating a magical pocket space for storage or the like. The tale goes while they were trapped in there for 10 hours before their friend and ally Ronja Leonhart and the apologetic was able to get them freed, for them 10 months had passed inside the magical pocket.

And hence, the baby.

Many there offered congratulations and agreed that there was no better reason to throw a celebration than such an expansion of the family.

Now that the drama and business of the war with Dragonspear forces has more or less concluded, Derik Ranloss can be seen traveling about the Coast a bit acquiring various reagents and components.

After a few weeks of this, these components are supplied to a friend and Mage, Oth, who uses them to cast some sort of spell on the Last Anchor.

When asked, Derik replies it is for "security concerns"

The last few weeks there has been a noted absence in the Last Anchor, that of the young, vibrant, red haired and blue eyed proprietress Lannia Ranloss.

It was known that she had traveled to Waterdeep a while ago with her and her husband's infant son to visit family there, but has long since been scheduled to be back. Whispers from the staff to each other indicate that they seem to be growing tense and worried, but why she is still gone is subject to only pure speculation.

Derik Ranloss himself is observably far more tense and sullen than he normally is, the normally gregarious warrior keeping a great deal to himself. The staff stay out of his path for the time being, their initial questions having been rebuffed.

Sometimes during the morning, Niyressa could be seen dragging an assortment of packs and sacks, loading them on a borrowed pack horse ande heading towards Baldur's Gate, her room is left cleaned up and empty of her possesions. Leaving a letter at the bar.

The staff at the Anchor whisper among themselves when few guests are around, but eventually a common thread of the whispering gets out.

Lannia Ranloss, the proprietor and hostess of the small pub and tavern, is well overdue from her trip to Waterdeep with her and Derik's young son, Declan.

Derik himself seems to be tending to needs around the inn as quickly and efficiently as possible and not socializing much. When confronted by one of the regular townsfolk about his wife and child being absent for longer than intended, he merely replied under his breath about dangerous roads, and that they're both fine. The look the huge warrior gave the farmer when pressed left no doubt that the conversation was at an end.

Patrons that enter the Anchor on the 19th of Kythorn can note the kitchen to be sounding terribly busy. Once in a while some curly red haired woman darts around the main room talking to staff with both apron, face and arms decked out in flour and who knows what. She did spring at the odd customer here and there, to have them taste test what goods were being made out there.

All day long, until evening came around, the scent of baking hangs in the air. It is a clean, slightly sweet, yeasty aroma that somehow smelled warm, like inhaling a blanket on a cold winter day. Sometimes a more sweet scent, other times to the savory side. When evening came around she disappeared upstairs for a soak, the kitchen finally quieting into its usual routine. When she reappeared she was squeaky clean and with soaked hair, baskets under her arms to lug toward a boat that were soon heading toward the Gate, and with whom ever had appeared/volunteered to help. If someone asked, they could know it all were being moved to the church of Ilmater.

As the Anchor's kitchen busied up in the earlier day, another red-haired, pale woman, though considerably shorter, would soon be found sneaking into the bustling center of bakery business. Likely, a squeal of joy would be heard, followed by clanking cooking utensils.. Which then only increased in intensity after a brief bout of slowing down, likely due to catching up on what was even going on. When seen, the robes seem to have found a new neighbour in another, slightly oversized apron, although the smaller frame could be seen much less frequently outside for some reason.

Beyond that, the scene would continue as before, though the amount of baked goods at once would marginally increase and occasionally, beyond the usual crazed noise, laughter and chatter could be heard erupting from the kitchen. And in fact, beyond two cases of levitating dough in a spectral hand, and one case of a meringue chasing a rude customer while growling, nothing out of the ordinary happened... Though the small woman ends up heading back out without a soak, smiling ear to ear and covered in flour and some light remains of dough on her fingers, and vanish the moment she turned a corner outside the Last Anchor, instead of helping the transport to the temple for one reason or another.

Mid-afternoon, in the lightly forested hills around Ulgoth's Beard, there is heard the echo of some sort of scream or cry. It is debatable on if it was a human making the sound.

A short time later, Derik Ranloss is seen making a hasty trip through town and disappears into the Last Anchor, heading immediately downstairs and ignoring any attempts from staff or patrons to hail him. He has wide, almost desperate looking eyes.

If asked, the staff can note that earlier in the day the owner had celebrated a small, belated 1 year birthday for his son with a couple of the staff and blade-sister, Ronja. It seems that at some point during that party, it is rumored that Lannia, Derik's wife who has been on some sort of shamanistic Walk-about the last couple months, arrived, but she must have gone back into her questing or something as she hasn't appeared in town.

Derik Ranloss can be seen bundling up his now 1 year old son and packing his things and toys. He then takes the child and luggage to a waiting fast ship in the Ulgoth's Beard harbor.

When asked, he simply responds that he is taking the child to reside in Waterdeep with Grandparents for a time being of unknown length. He will not answer questions as to why.

With a pop of a Teleport spell, Derik arrived outside the Anchor in Ulgoth's Beard. After checking in with the staff, he made his way to a certain artisan in town.

That afternoon, alone, Derik dug a small hole in the small Ulgoth Beard Cemetery next to the headstone of the man named Don he had placed some time earlier. In said hole, he places another elaborate headstone and secures it. No body is interred.

Lannia Ranloss
Wife, Sister, Mother, Friend
Shaman of the Tannen Line of Ruathym
Sacrificed herself to the Veil for the protection of her son Delcan
4th of Eleint, 1356.

"For you I would put down my sword. For you I would pick it up again."
"You were my reason I went to battle, and why I fought so hard to come home."

Rest well my love, I shall see you on the 2,000th turn.

Once set and secure, Derik takes a few steps away from the headstone and plops down into a cross-legged sit and stares at it in total silence.

Teris returns to the Last Anchor from a party, running as fast as he can and seemingly horrified. When asked if something went wrong during the event, he only manages to shake his head before running upstairs and hiding in his room. He cannot bring himself to speak of what he saw just yet, but rumor has it he was seen curiously exploring the cemetery after coming back to town.
