Hoihe, you're missing the point: it takes two to tango! Player and player, player and DM, Faction and Faction, etc.
Agreeing to uphold more consequence is a collaboration, not a form of dominance over another. I fear you are just outright STUCK on this idea and hampered by an inability to only see this in terms about how a change can ruin YOUR role-play, when in fact it is about consequence of actions (role-play) BETWEEN two or more.
And yes, thus, if a standard changes and You agree to RP within the umbrella of that Standard, you become part of a thing that is bigger than just you and your individual concerns.
This is a community collaboration role-play server, after all.
But, you can honestly drop these never ending concerns you have about having YOUR private RP "ruined" by simply opting out of RP with others who DO wish to honor the current Perma-Death Server Rules, and wish to RP with actual consequence to their PC's actions.
Just don't get involved in that RP, then. Because if you do, but you don't uphold the same Rules, whether Server dictated or Player initiated/upheld, you would then be ruining others RP, that which you consistently state more consequence will do to you.

This is funny because this kind of response does exactly the opposite of wanting to make the community close, and in fact dividing it.Steve wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2019 5:45 am Hoihe, you're missing the point: it takes two to tango! Player and player, player and DM, Faction and Faction, etc.

I have permakilled/scarred chars before with other player but the way you are proposing this just makes me want to have NOTHING to do with it, especially the superior RPer attitude that accompanies it.

I honestly feel like we should all just step back and take a breath. We are a diverse community with diverse likes and dislikes. Everyone will not be happy with the status quo all the time, and that is ok. It's our differences that make this server such a vibrant place to play.
I think we can all agree that having fun is the main priority. Let's just concentrate on that. Writing rich stories that we can all enjoy. I hate to see the community at odd with one another. We all love the same game, we all love different aspects of it.
I think that we have a great balance right now. How about we all just concentrate on enriching that balance and not on spreading negativity within the community.
So, just go have fun! That is what it's all about, right?

Re: Character Death (MvP & PvP/CvC)
I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread, because to me it looks like people are taking up camps and it's becoming personal.
At this time:
Staff is not looking at expanding the existing permadeath model. The existing model is that permadeaths are voluntary in all cases, except when they are imposed by the DMs. They can only be imposed by the DMs following a "three strikes" system where you are warned twice before permadeath that your character's risk-taking behavior is going to permanently land them in the land of the dead if they don't take greater caution.
This does not preclude or prevent players from creating permadeath groups or clubs (as that is covered under voluntary permadeath). But players are not currently positioned to force permadeath on other players. Only DMs can do so at this time, and that requires that the majority of the DM Team agree that the character's behavior warrants a warning that they are approaching a forced retirement (e.g. launching a direct attack on the Flaming First HQ or citadel of Darkhold would probably result in a permastrike if you are caught or killed in the attempt).
If discussion needs to continue here, let me know in a week and I'll consider unlocking it. But at this point, be aware that no changes to the existing system are currently in the works.
That could change in the future (though we're probably more likely to adjust the way mechanical death happens before enacting player-enforced permadeaths), but right now there's no discussion staff side about changing the way character death is handled in player vs. environment or player vs. player situations.
