There's no such "select group" and no such thing.
The "anti server wide perma death" discussion was started by hoihe for some incomprehensible reason without anyone proposed it.
That's how we got 7 pages in this thread.
Search the forums over the last year for suggestions proposing permadeath be made the default rule.
You'll find tons of them.
I decided to take the initiative and propose its anti-proposal.

A character belongs only to their player, and only them. And only the player may decide what happens.

I see suggestions to add opptional permadeath maybe 3 times per year top, they don't gain any traction/support, and I have maybe seen only ONE of them in my entire time here that wanted to enforce it onto everybody.
This kind of level of interest is not worth "taking the initiative to counter it".
I read this thread. I can see the arguments on both sides. What if epic levels got you a perma-death token? If you choose to become epic, you can die forever.. Great power = great consequences? maybe even level 25+, or something, if people are too squeamish about just any epic level alone = permadeath?

There is no point changing things from the way they are.
My ONLY grievence is that there should be ACTUAL consequences for certain actions. DM's should enforce/Update some of the rules already in place when it coems to Permadeath.
Any auto system type deal has the potential to be exploited or bug out and cause serious problems.

In more than one sense, most of my characters are already on a kind of a 'permadeath' mode - once they have died once or twice from mobs or even PvP, I tend to lose interest in them, unless there is some mechanical goal to keep playing towards. Epic Rage was such for more than just one of my characters.
Perhaps my permadeath suggestion might be slightly too harsh, perhaps you should be allowed to RCR or mule items and the permadeath trinket would just keep you from going down from Nexus, but I think it would be a good addition to the server as an entirely optional system. It adds added challenge, it requires a different approach, and it can make the server feel like something brand new.
But I guess the funniest thing about this whole suggestion is the guy who made it... Experience penalty on death? REMOVE IT! Permadeath mode? PLEASE ADD IT AS AN OPTIONAL SYSTEM!

There should be no rules that cannot be changed on player request. Lest you end up in a scenario where a DM dislikes you as a person or your character and keeps creating scenarios where you must take the permadeath path or break character.

Im not saying that DM should FORCE you to Perma unless under extreme circumstances and i dont believe it should ever be left up to a single DM. but in certain cases with certain actions comes huge consequences.
In my head it is completely stupid and very... frustrating both IC and OOC to see someones character running around like nothing happened after they have been caught out on not one but MULTIPLE occasions by MULTIPLE people doing things they KNOW are wrong.
There arent that many individuals but there are a couple who i just CANNOT undertstand how they are able to exist. The whole "your mind is wiped" is a load of crap because they are still going to be hounded by everyone else who has been part of that characters story. Its a bandaid fix that is NEVER going to work.
If you are caught out. accept the consequences of your actions and be a damn adult about it. we are mostly adults right?
if a character has been proven to be evil BEYOND A DOUBT and has been "killed" over and over and over for crying out loud retire the damn thing. It is so incredibly stupid and inconsiderate to leave these characters running around like "HAHAHA WHATAREYAGONNADOABOUTIT?"
Either that or banish them to their own little map away from the rest of us who want to have a decent RP session without some "bad guy" running past AGAIN for the 400th time.

Permanent death in this case is an OOC punishment, and is not even aimed to improve the story though :S.
An IC character shouldn't suffer for their player's stupidity. Punish the player for trolling.

wolf...like how you used the term evil and bad guy. we know full and well that the same actions are being done by good and good guys.
even then. what is to say that that is bad? the server higher ups think this is perfectly fine. hence we have and never will have deaths mean more than xp loss and and some wasted time.
the server rules say dying doesnt mean anything. so why should anyone play like it does? we live in high magic and the character is returned with this spell or that.
at least this is what i have been told for the last 8 pages of posts.

IC actions should have IC consequences.
If someone's amassed enough permastrikes to make it to permadeath status, the player behind the character should accept it gracefully, not try to weasel out of it.
Granted, I doubt that many accept it gracefully, but it's not like they should be surprised by the time they're recieving their last strike.

It's not really a consequence if you don't get to suffer it, though.

There is a fine line... Should you have to RP how Ameris is healing another? Not bloody likely... However, if you decide to charge in to the hordes of undead solo while the rest of the party is still strategizing, Leroy Jenkins style, well...You may have made a stupid choice as a player, and perhaps your character should have known better with his 13 INT (to qualify for Weapon Master!) However, I suppose his 8 WIS got the better of him, because you the player still made a bone head decision and, were I a DM in such an event I would most certainly issue a perma-strike if the rest of your group elected not to or was unable to retrieve you from the horde.
So in some cases yes, the character can be penalized for the players poor decision making. In my opinion of course. Ameris would never do this of course....but I know many PCs who would...not that I ever made such an idiotic decison..well...just that once...
