Re: The New Age Rules

First off, I'd like to give my thanks to the DM team for all their work for our playerbase. I never wanted to cause any stress for the DMs when I started this thread, just to offer honest feedback on a rule change I did not agree with. I'm glad that you all have been open to a discussion about it, and I hope nobody's feathers have gotten too flustered by this whole thing. I love you all. <3

I admit I'm surprised by the choice to offer an 18 option. I mean, I'm totally onboard with that, but I for one am also okay with the 20 option instead if you choose to go that route. I hope the new rules will help you deal with violations in a much more expedient manner. And I think we can certainly reconsider them if there continues to be issues.

I'm personally not a fan of one strike and you're out, but as long as the reporting player has provided enough evidence to prove that the other player is actually breaking this rule and there is some consideration as to whether or not the offending player actually broke it, then I'm fine with it. My only concern with one-strike rules is innocent players getting caught in the crossfire. Though, if one strike means one warning and then ban on second report, rather than ban on first report, then I have no issue with it. Though I do support what Xorena suggests, and including the option to ban on first report if the evidence is bad enough.

And I definitely see why you jumped in with the rule change right away. As they say, the perfect is the enemy of the good, and by going forward with those changes, even if they weren't the final ones, you opened the door for discussion and an eventual final rule. As long as there is willingness to take community concerns into account, which there has been, then I have no issue with how this has been handled, personally.

I also reiterate the suggestion I made to SummerBreeze about changing the default bio presented to players at chargen with a summary of character creation rules (or even just a general introduction to the server and links to relevant forum posts) to ensure these kinds of things aren't missed by people who don't regularly use forums. If this is something the DMs feel worthwhile, let me know and I can implement it.

You mentioned no grandfathering in option 1. What happens to existing characters, then? In my case, Pixanie and Berred - would they need to be retroactively aged up (or have their birthdays defined accordingly), shelved until they'd be the right age, or what? (It's been nearly 2 years since Kana was created, so whenever her birthday is, she can't be far from 21 anymore. Well over the limit for option 1. :P)
I imagine it'd be whichever the player would prefer. Retroactively aging up or shelving until they'd be the right age.

This lolita sort of activity isn't the sort of thing that a warning is going to work against.

If you caught someone loot stealing, kill stealing, putting a title in their name, violating build rules, or some other such behavior you can expect that they would still want to play without that behavior, then a warning may have an effect. But there is a significant presence in the nwn2 community of players where role playing underage sexual encounters is what they want. Everything they do is working towards that goal. They may try to skirt the rules to get away with it, but they've no interest in changing their roleplay.
Just ban on the first offense even if they're trying to argue they are technically within the rules, not doing so is just wasting more time before the inevitable.

Hello Awesome BGTSCC Players and Staff and Community! See below given the helpful feedback from players and the DM Team and staff after the DM Team considered all factors involved and where the community had comfort for more severe discipline keeping the age rules as is otherwise!

After asking for further player community feedback and DM Team and staff feedback on the 4/6/2021 age rules, the rules have been amended to the below.
PG-13 Content
All players must be 13 years of age or older to play on Baldur's Gate: The Sword Coast Chronicles.

Beyond that, though, this server, the forums, and any interactions within them should be the equivalent of PG-13/Teen at most. No violations of this rule, not even within the privacy of an inn room or guild hall. This includes, but is not limited to, excessive vulgarity, gratuitous violence/torture, graphic/extended sexual situations, and explicitly or implicitly sexualizing any characters under the age of 18 or racial equivalent in age.

Pregnancies are strictly forbidden unless directly supervised by the DM team and approved in advance. Any pregnancies are a form of "retiring" a PC for the duration, and resulting children are NOT to be roleplayed or represented in game.

The minimum age for any PC is at least 18 years old or racial equivalent for all characters made. There will be a one strike policy (a one time warning) and you're out on the next violation (permanent ban from the forums and the game and the community) for any player that implicitly or explicitly violates this rule twice. We encourage all players to report vigilantly any violations as such to the DM Team.

----

Unusual Characters
Every PC must be a legal adult (at least 18 years of age for humans or the racial equivalent for nonhumans). No exceptions implicit in character description innuendo or explicit will ever be allowed.

----

– Content = Teen
– The Server, Forum and all interactions are to be rated Teen or below. ERP/sexual encounters (other than fade to black scenes), graphic or extended nudity, gratuitous violence and torture, and especially rape or miscarriage are strictly prohibited. Pregnancies are forbidden unless directly supervised by the DM team and approved in advance. Any pregnancies are a form of "retiring" a PC for the duration, and resulting children are NOT to be roleplayed or represented in game. The minimum age for any PC is 18 years old or racial equivalent. No exceptions implicit in character description innuendo or explicit will ever be allowed.
