What I meant there is that lore and literature has everything in the ud slaves to mindflayers or drow.

Sigil allows goblins. Feel free to roll one up there?

Humans shouldn't be KoS to these races. When players roll a non-KoS race, they do so knowing that they get an RP out before getting attacked. Monstrous races don't get this courtesy, nor should they.

I dont have any interest in playing on another server.

this is a far cry from a beholder. a goblin cannot fly and shoot lasers from its many eyes. its bipedal and carries no special magical abilities. your comparison implies this is absurd, i do not feel it is.

i wouldnt care if the race is KOS. i wouldnt care if all, none or some races are KOS. that is me.

making it UpD race it would limit its play-ability on the surface.

D20 has the stats like this:
Goblin characters possess the following racial traits.

-2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, -2 Charisma.
Small size: +1 bonus to Armor Class, +1 bonus on attack rolls, +4 bonus on Hide checks, -4 penalty on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits ¾ those of Medium characters.
A goblin’s base land speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision out to 60 feet.
+4 racial bonus on Move Silently and Ride checks.
Automatic Languages: Common, Goblin. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Elven, Giant, Gnoll, Orc.
Favored Class: Rogue.
from the taladas 3rd edition handbook.
GOBLIN RACIAL TRAITS
· +2 Dexterity, 2 Strength. Goblins are an agile race, but lack the physical power of humans or
minotaurs.
· Small: As Small creatures, goblins gain a +1 bonus to Armour Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls,
and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but they must use smaller weapons than humans and their
lifting and carrying limits are three quarters of those of Medium-size characters.
· Goblin base speed is 20 feet.
· Low-Light Vision: Goblins can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and
similar conditions of poor illumination. They retain the ability to distinguish colour and detail under
these conditions.
· 1 racial penalty to attack rolls in bright sunlight or the equivalent. The keen vision of a goblin hero
works best in darkness, and is overly sensitive to bright light.

· Favoured Class: Rogue. A multiclass goblin’s rogue class does not count when determining whether
he suffers an XP penalty for multiclassing (see Experience for Multiclass Characters, page 56 of the
Player’s Handbook).

If implemented some of these races (goblins/kobolds) should have a max level.

Like max level 10-15 or something?

I find it feels pretty awkward RP wise if there are all powerful goblins etc around when they are normally regarded as low threat.

I dont see why they should be restricted.
Even in the NWN OC you get a kobold bard companion that can level normally.

Post subject: Playable monster races
Wasn't trying to say your idea is absurd. Goblin is no less absurd than orc. Was trying to be funny, but rolled a 1 it seems.

More seriously though, without ecosystem and infrastructure to support a completely different and hostile faction of players, I can't support expanding in this direction. I feel the same way about orcs on the surface.

i barb30 goblin would not be a very powerful barb30 with the negs on one maybe two important stats. a rogue30 gob would feel par for the course. opportunistic and sneaky. seems right doesnt it?

what you typically beat up on are the human versions of a peasant. this would be a hero of goblins. like all PC's are viewed.

Bear in mind that orcs and goblins in the Realms are not natural allies- in later editions Maglubiyet and Gruumsh spend their followers souls in a furious war without end - unless there's a more powerful force (for example a dragon) pushing them together.

A goblin faction would likely take players away from any orc faction RP as the same players wanting to play an orc struggling against a hostile Coast of paladins and monster hunters are likely to be interested in also playing a goblin doing the same.

We need be mindful of where the line is drawn and that comes from the balance of possibilities. Adventurers from Human stock is rare enough, from the Orcs even more so, just how common are 30th level adventuring goblins, oooh, can I play a Gelatinous Cube thief-acrobat? An application only process maybe the only way to control escalating racial inclusion.

BGtSCC carries with it its own axis and allies apart from lore honestly. i agree with you that gobs and orcs do not carry any love for each other being two predators of a similar niche. that will create that tension. but this server does not tell this story. those kind of natural instincts do not apply much in DnD and more so in a video game. IMHO that would be up to the players RP to who it will ally or enemy with.

i am not looking for orc allies either. my orc has relationships with surface races and with UD. i was feeling out the wants and dont wants regarding this idea.

this has little to do with me other than i would prolly roll one if made available. HiPSy gob EpDodge/PTWF R16/A9/IB5. sick H/MS numbers.

just how common are 30th level adventuring goblins,
If it's the rate of advancement that is a concern, why not make goblins as an ECL 2 or 3 race, and require they are level 2 roll, (to prevent rcr xp) this would effectively make them more difficult to level, and represent the difficulty in being a goblin in the surface world.

IMO, full surface orcs should also be an ECL 2 or 3 and start at level 2. Eventually, both these races would get strong enough, but it would weed out the less devoted by making players work through the difficult levels, rather than starting at level 15-20. This also would give realism as players give up the race, (75% of goblins never make it to adulthood or some sort of thing :) )

Just ideas. If I were to roll a goblin, I'd indenture myself to someone as a porter/servant for protection, and work off my servitude. :)

i could agree with that thinking. 2 ecl is tough sledding for sure. the starting stats would need to reflect this though wouldnt it? or is that made up for by starting at level 2? doesnt seem enough knowing the limitations.

would also point out there are NOT dozens of surface orcs running all over the server. when i am on that makes 1 maybe 2. and the second one is coming from the other computer in my house. :)

it would be reasonable that there would be at best this amount of gobbies at best. even though the RP would be fun. just not everybodies idea of fun.
