Playable monster races
It is fun playing orc and I know the discussion has come up at least once before, how would the GP feel about goblins as a playable. Its not standard, but I do t think it's far from standard.
Tsr/wotc made a really good version of a playable for taladas box set. +2dex, -2str. Fav class rogue. Small size bonus for ac and ab. Negative for weapon choice and kd delivery/prevention.

Moving to suggestion forum.

Re: Playable monster races
What comes undoubtably as question with a race considerd monsterly is a home. Then their maximum abilities or powerlevel. The complete lack of gear which we can adorn the goblins with. Or customisation offered. The pvp rules considered, as #goblinsareexp for adventurers.
This has a whole lot to consider for if you want to bring a monster race in even theoreticly.

Not unless they are KOS. That orcs are entitled to an rp out is already absurd.

Re: Playable monster races
And so, is a human kos to an orc player then? I would be alright with that. do you speak for the rest of the players that want to roll humans. Wouldn't it make sense that the inverse were true then. Lets draw a line in the sand. Good over here. Bad over here. Kos for everyone. Go.
Guess what? Won't happen. So lets move on from that and talk sensibly.

Naturally. But due to lower numbers you'd have to exercise that 'right' sparingly. Because death squads will roam the tradeway if you are being too trigger happy. Orcs are a pest. They do damage when under the guidance of a warlord and only in greater numbers than the civilized race they oppose. Individually, they are exp mobs. They live short, violent lives and as such do not usually live long enough to achieve the power level of your average human adventurer. Monster races as PCs is a flawed concept.aaron22 wrote:And so, is a human kos to an orc player then?
Guess what ? Neither will playable goblins. I figured I'd just humor you for the heck of it, though.aaron22 wrote:Guess what? Won't happen. So lets move on from that and talk sensibly.

Re: Playable monster races
Mostly I wanted to get player feedback on the idea. I would imagine most wouldn't care. Some would be interested In playing one. Some interested in playing along side them. And some that will wholeheartedly be against it. I respect all these options.
To speak on tantive's response.
I have not done the research from lore to find a reasonable home for them. It doesn't seem impossible. In fact it seems like that would likely be the easy part.
Stats wise. +2dex, -2str seems reasonable could even add in -1 con as that falls inline with stats from the monsters manual. This would likely put them with the small size at a 0ecl. I do not see a good reason why it wouldn't.
Gear? I'm not sure why this would matter. It's dnd. Gear fitting is well.... looked past.
PvP. That would be like orc. Orc is numbed one monster in dnd. Goblin is number two. The PvP aspect has been talked and talked and talked about. Doesn't matter. We follow the rules or catch the ban hammer. Orc or aasimar. All are expected to follow the rules.

Re: Playable monster races
Might be a tall request or idea but perhaps have a setting for an encampment for the orcs in the woods somewhere, though that makes it exclusive to that PC race apart from half orc maybe (And even then the halfbreeds get stick and abuse, poor little (person)).
But saying that the underdark from what I gather is to the go to for little nasty place for stuff like that. Could this idea decrease the underdark population?
Just giving an idea!

Re: Playable monster races
The only monsterv race I can see as playable possibly are hobgoblins, due to the chill. That right there folks is a stretch to the point where if monster races such as Hobgoblins and goblins were made playable, they would either need to be KoS or application only.

Those blighters I can imagine give bad flashbacks to the original BG, it did when you just wrote that!Moridin wrote:The only monsterv race I can see as playable possibly are hobgoblins, due to the chill.
The hobgoblins stats are pretty good if I remember with no ecl adjustment (Quote me if I'm wrong but +2 dex on the template of an NPC?)
Definately an awesome idea.

I don't imagine they would be. But I am not opposed to bringing up the unlikely and probably unreasonable. Forums were a bit heavy. At least for me. Just giving another something to talk about. The Whistler wrote:Naturally. But due to lower numbers you'd have to exercise that 'right' sparingly. And saying no because it is a monster race is hypocritical. All the ud races are monster races. All the planetouched are monster races. That's like 30% of the playables if I guess. Tsr made a goblin playable for 2nd edition. About the same time they made tiefling and aasimar. IIRC.
I don't play Pnp anymore. Haven't for a long time. But my old gm would not have said no to us wanting to play a group of orc and goblins. Especially if orc was already something being played.

Re: Playable monster races
Goblins could be an underdark race, but the issue is they are pretty much only seen as a slave race which is against server rules to rp slavery. Personally I'm not interested in more surface monster races, but in the underdark I'd be cool with it if we could figure a way that they aren't slaves, similar to those demon orcs down there.

Re: Playable monster races
I was thinking an upperdark race. That would be fun and yes about the slavery. We just follow rules on that. They should be clever enough to not be only slaves. And in the ud, everything is a slave to drow and mindflayers. So its not hard to stop imagining them as slaves.
