Breaking News:
Haste Spells are under suspicion to be carcinogenic. The increased speed with which the cells divide under the effect of a haste spell increases the chance of faulty cell reproduction.
Seems true Resurrection actually works even if there is no body left at all

Haste used to age the caster in older editions - it doesn't now.
True Resurrection doesn't have the requirement that a body is absent. In PnP, there may even be cases you want to use True Resurrection on a recently deceased - as you don't get the con or level loss.

Back in AD&D a cleric casting Resurrection used to age 1d3 years and then have to rest for every level of the creature resurrected. I liked those little features!

I think people need to understand that in Forgotten Realms, the concept of someone with the right ambition and drive to accept a call to return to living is impossible to kill barring destruction of their soul or death by natural aging.
With True Resurrection, given you have the coin, you can resurrect someone infinite amount of times and they'll suffer no ill effects. With the lesser versions, all they need to do is relearn some skills (regain lost level) between their deaths to avoid permanent effects. The thing preventing this from going on forever is that learning/earning XP takes time, so they'll eventually become too weak due to age to regain their lost XP fast enough.
The above is the reason why I am against permadeath strikes even if you get captured by the fists. The only thing capable of prevention resurrection barring destruction or capture of soul is the individual in question refusing to be resurrected, or nobody caring enough to put together the money for the act.
How to permanently kill someone then? Make them hate their own life, alienate all their friends, ruin their reputation. You both eliminate people willing to spend money on resurrecting them and they won't want to be resurrected either.

I think since perma death is mostly chosen by players kind of reflects the players unwillingness to continue playing the character.
In general it seems to just be a method of punishing really bad behavior or it's voluntarily so I don't see a big problem with it.

Enforced perma-deaths are super rare, like, unheard of. You're given perma-strikes, and it takes three for a perma-death to occur. Plenty of warning and time to change the character's ways.
Unless strikes are issued for rule breaking, its actually pretty difficult to end up perma-killing a character unwillingly.

I don't mind getting the perm strikes, it gives your character/player something to fear. You can get a perm strike for a lot of things. Usually for breaking the laws of the land. Sneaking into a guild halls can land you perm strike or death. Joining a guild to steal information. Without consequences what is there to fear.
