It eats through mantles and has no counter what-so-ever. If hard Counters are good, shouldn't that apply equally to IGMS?
I dont know if i need to state the obvious but... yes there should be a counter. Ideally all spells should have one SR check and mantles should only absorb a spell if they have enough levels left. It turn though, this will weaken the mantles from wands - which some will consider good, others bad - and nerf a tool that can be used against casters.

And that is the point. Those spells were working "fine", yet we wanted to make changes based on how things "should" work, which in turn can cause chain reactions. It really should be "If it aint broken, dont fix it"

Don't we already have a counter with Ghostly Visage and Ethereal Visage? Even though being ethereal should actually have the vulnerability to be effected by force spells.

They give DR/ Magic, not DR/ Magical... as in DR unless struck by a magic weapon, not DR against magical damage such as IGMS.

I had completely misread the description for all this time then.

That was the role the spell Flame arrow played in the past and was wrongly changed. I am glad another spell does what flame arrow is supposed to do and have a spell - other than breaches - counter mantles. Mechanically, this gives variety when making strategies, when filling your spell book.

Maybe I am dead wrong, but IGMS has always been a pretty overpowered spell. If anything, I feel it stifles creativity as its a go-to spell for almost every single wizard/sorc build. So perhaps limiting it to one SR check will encourage people to adopt new strategies vs spell mantles, rather than just spamming Isaac's missile storm.

I love this spell btw, its such a dependable spell imo.

However, I would much prefer to see more variety in useful spells.

Still trying to make Extended Whirlpool + wizard spell list lightning spell worth using as a combo but guess what? Quickened bigbys + IGMS is just superior, and harder to resist.

On BG any damaging spell - IGMS included - is hardly overpowered. There are so many more powerful spells - or spell combos - for an arcane than IGMS.
