Same thread, different year. It has been going on since 2012 when i begun playing here. With the amount of Devs and the skills they have, BG has plenty of years left. Not just to survive. But to get much better.

In the mean time, threads like this are a good place to vent.

Yeah especially when NWN1 Servers probably have the same threads opening up everywhere. Meanwhile they have double our population.

Warhammer 2.
Destiny 2.
Divinity 2.
... and Battlefront 2! That's where I'll probably be.

Don't mind if I do!

The devs have, for the most part, always been great, and so has the content(minus one mess of a huge update). But updates, devs, and content can only carry a server so far. The RP, on the other hand.... well, I've been waiting for the quality of that to move in an upwards fashion for some time now.
Planehopper wrote:In my opinion the biggest threat to long term success is the same reason it will last a while longer - cliques. There are enough circles of players that enjoy each other OOC that they will stick around and play together. Those same groups though, if not opened, will be the bane of long term success.
I'm uncertain of which cliques you're referring to. Guilds have always been clique-y, but some of them simply have to be. Many of them have gone quiet though, which doesn't bode well for those groups opening up. Then again, maybe these aren't the cliques you're referring to. RP-cliques, on the other hand, have always had only a marginal success at meshing with each other.

Lets be honest here, it's probably a 50/50 split when it comes to players who come here for RP, and those who enjoy the mechanical aspect of the server. Personally speaking, I could care less about the mechanics, it's the RP that has always brought me back. And judging from some of the RP gatherings being promoted in the Elfsong, and in-game, I would say that some of the roleplay is certainly taking on a Sims/Second life type of flavor, which I also have absolutely no interest in participating in(nothing quite drains my desire to RP quite like reading about events that involve cooking, or socialite partys serving chocolate covered sapphires). Couple that with the seeming absence of any server intrigue, or campaign(I could be wrong here... if there is one, I can't tell), well...safe to say that I'll be elsewhere for a while. But, that's just me.

Happy grinding! ;)

You're not wrong. The module doesn't particularly specialize in any one direction.

Ghost Recon Wildlands: Ghost War PvP is released on tuesday. I might be a little bit distracted by that for a while.

You take that back! One department nwn1 is still leagues above nwn2 in is the animations. Boy do I wish nwn2 had those neat little clashing animations in the melee v melee combat. Not to mention the spell effects in nwn2 are all 2D! Still, it is the superior game in many more ways. Idk which one I prefer overall. It comes down to which one I can get more fun RP in, and for now that's definitely BGTSCC in NWN2. <3

Well yeah, alot of the spell effects appear 2D to me. Like they aren't 3D models, seemingly. If you move the camera they always appear pretty flat.

This. My most thrilling RP experiences from nwn1 were the epic conflicts between guilds.

Yup. It gives players multiple things to do/talk about during the 90% of the time when DMs aren't running events. Its especially good when conflicts are between DM supported factions and work to change the server/shake things up. It works best when opposing player factions are the center of the server's attention.

Do you guys really, really want this? Because it has a tendency so far to end up with mainly OOC drama, and then it goes further to throwing unwarranted accusations of favouritism at DMs. I know at least one great, objective DM who stepped down because of the endless barrage of unsubstantiated garbage thrown at them. Not because they had done anything wrong, but because a loud group of players decided that the DM had done something wrong, without ever really giving clear descriptions of what, but instead spread lies and far-reaching assumptions about the DM.

If you really, really want DM supported intrigue, you have to accept that you're not privy to the whole picture the same way as the DM is. If your opponents are winning, it's a good chance they simply are picking the more reasonable path.

Short answer? Yes
