Server quiet?
Hi everyone. So I had a question.
Does the server seems kind of quiet lately? It's like it has about 50% less players online then it used too 2 months ago. Looking right now only seeing 28 people online. I remember it being 60+ all the time. Kind of reminds me of Sigil when the server when the server suddenly died off.

Re: Server quiet?
Like Kiran says, a lot of games appealing to our demographic have just been released.
It's also back to school season for our school-and-college-age players, and it's the end of the year (typically the most busy part of the year) for our job-bound players.
I'll probably not complain too loudly about it, myself, as we're hoping to add a few new DMs this month and it'll be a good training environment if they're not having to undergo a baptism by fire.
Plus those of you actively playing right now should get more DM attention as a result, so win-win.

That, and I bet there are some players like me who just can't download the server updates since mid-Sep.Kiran wrote:3 good games just been released, its quite normal.

There's nothing wrong with my cable connection btw.
Now I just try once every few days and it's still the usual 2-3 KB/sec.
Yea, Divinity 2 looks tempting for folks in my situation.

Try the 'manual' download. Link is somewhere... usually?

Shadow of War is out next week, which won't help me log in as often LOL!

I posted it to the large game files thread as well, which I'll probably reformat sometime this year.

I know several players who think the server has begun its slow decline into oblivion... i hope they

Re: Server quiet?
Doubtful. Prior to the March 2016 update average population during my play times ranged from ~15-30 players. Now it obviously has dropped recently from ~50's to ~40's, but my guess is that in the next month or two it will pick back up. With regular developer updates and rarely ever seeing any posts from Barney or Endelyon about donating my guess is the server will remain strong for the near term. If we start seeing posts every other month requesting donations it'll be time to start worrying I imagine.V'rass wrote:I know several players who think the server has begun its slow decline into oblivion... i hope they

There is no need for hope. They are very clearly wrong. This is how it is every time each year. Fall time people go back to college, work overtime to pay for summer vacations, new video games start coming out consistently and watch the NFL, NBA and NHL. During the Summer is when the server fills up regularly. During the Winter it is off and on.

Re: Server quiet?
This place has at least another year or two left, by my guess. Like Chad said, new content alone will keep it chugging along.
In my opinion the biggest threat to long term success is the same reason it will last a while longer - cliques. There are enough circles of players that enjoy each other OOC that they will stick around and play together. Those same groups though, if not opened, will be the bane of long term success.

FTFY. Not to beat a long dead horse, but everyone likes what everyone likes. Though BG still has the numbers it is a shadow of what it could have been because of this. It is painful to think about but I'm largely over it and have moved on.Planehopper wrote:Those same groups though, if not opened, willhave be the bane of long term success.
Will be back perhaps if less draconian minds prevail.
