Some people also tend to forget their character doesn't have eyes in the back of their head too. Just because you can see 360 degrees around them doesn't mean they can.
Keep in mind though that there exists peripherial vision, and also turning of a neck without the body. Dare say it's safe to assume like 180 or even sth like 270 degrees vision when Search mode is enabled.

Search mode should give character tunnel vision, because they're walking looking very carefully at the walls and floor.

It is not about the vision cone, it is about paying attention to the right thing.

you can legit say one can have 180 degree vision, but anything higher would be impossible because of the lack of focus on the outer degrees, even at 180

but if you notice something in your peripheral and shift your focus to it, you lose focus on everything else

now if you wanna add in hearing, sure you can hear in a 360 but if the pickpocket is light footed and you cant hear them then you are back to relying on sight only
