Re: New Race: The Warforged
The thing about the Warforged is that they are hardly an OP race.
And if you're going to talk about "Well suddenly everybody will be a Warforged"
Well, to be fair, we have so many Tieflings walking around casually on the coast that it's insane. And Tieflings are supposed to be rare. Very rare. We're talking less than 1% of the population rare.
And, yet, TIeflings abound. Because they're a selectable race. It happens.
The thing about the Warforged: Suppose a huge group of them DID come to the Coast all at once? In a mass migration? Because, say, their people would all STICK TOGETHER, perhaps? Just seems logistical to me.

Chaos is relative. What is normal for the Spider is Chaos for the Fly.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
Has nothing to do with them being OP or even how many people are playing them. FR already has too much immersion breaking non-medieval elements as it is. It doesn't need more. If people want to play golems, there's always a possible future MPC system.

I feel like of all the advanced things that might come from Lantan, starting with sentient golem-people probably shouldn't be the first.

Definitely not a bad starting point.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
Yeah, my objection to them are from a roleplay perspective, not based in power.
I dont think they fit the setting. I dont think they would be represented accurately if they were allowed. I think they would detract from immersion rather than enhance it.
The only way things like that work in pnp is because they are population controlled by the DMs. If these were an application race, and the cyborg/android angles were not used in play, then maybe it would work. I dont want to see C3PO or a terminator in the realms.
I just dont see it working as an open race.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
I did some digging and there's precedence for them being from Lantan. Also, they are less different than a techsmith's gondsman which is already in-game. So I don't really get the argument.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
It is a matter of delicate roleplay, and a PW not being a proper medium for roleplaying something that should be rare and monitored closely by a DM.
You can probably cobble together an IC reason to do a good number of silly things and try to make it make sense, but that doesnt mean it will work in our setting, in a persistent world devoid of constant DM supervision.
Make them a playable, temporary, thing through the monster application process that has been discussed on discord. At least that way they can be shut down if they start acting like robots.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
The warforged have no place in FR as they were made specifically for the great war in Ebberon... a completely different world. And yes im aware of sigil etc but this would be way too over the top for me.

Wolf, I think you missed what the OP wrote. Read the last part of his post. It's clear it's able to be added.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
I'm 100% against this. Even on a server where sentient golems were common, I've never seen someone RP a golem as a golem. Every single one of them (not an exaggeration) played them as some robot thing. Most with voice boxes, and even some who would act as if they could record conversations and replay them.
Outside of that, I think their inclusion on this server would be immersion breaking in a big way.

only if I can be warforgedcop

You can be warforgedcop but you have to start as a flaming fist officer whose life takes a brutal turn when hunting down bandits. Also you can only RP with cheesy one liners and lots of angst about a half remembered past life.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
As I see it, what you wrote is an argument against the introduction of warforged, rather than for them. If with a certain RP or mechanical niche there are benefits of choosing a race, and with the open opportunity of selecting such a character option, despite any lore-specific notes of their rarity they will become rather over-abundant as a character type. Tieflings and aasimar are supposed to be rare, yet for a plethora of reasons -- some mechanical, some not -- the Native Outsiders are rather plentiful among the player characters.kitteninablender wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 5:19 pm The thing about the Warforged is that they are hardly an OP race.

Warforged are practically non-existent in FRCS 3.5e lore, much less the 2e lore that the server is intended to follow. Introducing them as a character race would certainly not lead to just 'a couple' sentient constructs, unique in their nature, wandering the Sword Coast. I could see a unique introduction of a sentient construct as an NPC involved in a DM-run event, but not as a player race.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
As a current techsmith player.
I vote No on this. I don't want to go into any specific details but from what I have seen from other "techsmith" RP with their golem. Is a bit cringe
As for DM approved classes/races ect. Last I heard DM removed approval process in hopes that we can just trust our players not to make things like metal gensi, perma enlarged Orcs calling themselves orge or something with out extensive research.
I wouldn't mind seeing some models used to make dex based Techsmith golem or such but not sentient golems.
