It's not male run. It's wizard run, which I think is an important detail =)
The majority of wizards have always been males, because the moment a female shows magical aptitude the Church of Lolth is going to charge right in and drag the person away for 'proper' training in the Divine arts. Furthermore the Conclave is also worried to allow too many females into position of power, as they might very well be more inclined to favour Lolths tenets. I'm saying more inclined than the males, because the female wizards also very much prefer being above the clergy hood of Lolth.
This is of course different in non-Lolthite run cities, but general speaking female wizards coming from a Lolthite city is rare at best, and even considered a disgrace (it's considered picking the arcane over the divine willingly, whether true or not).
Considering most drow who arrive at Sshamath are from other cities, then I think it's an In Game predicament to ensure that newcomers are well versed in the ways of Sshamath because most every drow that I've met have been from Lolth dominated cities. It's not all that odd they're not intimate with the ways of Sshamath. But nonetheless I think it could be interesting to discuss how best to achieve an IG solution as to how to teach newcomers how to behave and who should do it.

Amal'lunim: you and I know how to "teach" them the proper ways of Sshamath.
The whip and the blade.

Perhaps I can set up a convo to the guards around the city where new comers could ask them questions that are lore, or direction related. Works really well in many other games I have played, and I would hopefully get fewer PMs asking how to get out of Sshamath

.
I think the lore page could also use some refreshing. What would the older UD players with some position think about me adding them to the Lore of the city with a short bio on the person. A sort of important persons section. It would list the names by faction with NPCs first and PCs second.
Probably need to put up a bulletin in the Nexus like the one for the tanaruks and gray orc for the UD which states "Go to the Lore page on the forums, and READ". *sighs* reading... a lost art.

Honestly I think it is easier for a person to make a bigger impact down in the UD. I mean, let's think about it, you aren't competing with 90% of the server down in the UD. So what you do tends to echo thru the cave walls I think much longer, IMO.

I enjoy the solitude of the UD because usually I travel alone, but its even more rewarding to me when I join a party and go hunting....just a good feel in the UD. Surface is nice, but every game i played on the surface, and things get a little out of hand in my view, almost bordering absurdity in RP'ing. My experience anyhow.
UD ROCKS!
PS. I can't wait though for a connection with the surface to allow travel, even if limited.
