Someplace within the Lower City of Baldur's Gate was a tavern where the more dubious sort of individuals would frequent for drinks, meals and even a cheap room. But those where not the only reasons certain individuals paid a visit. It wasn't an uncommon thing to hear of tales of the underworld within the city. Where shady deals and diabolical plots were whispered. a meeting place for those who wished to conduct illicit business. A representative of an illegal group operating in Baldur's Gate could usually be found somewhere on the premises, and the tavern was the best place to engage the services of them.

Nice to finally catch up with you. I assume you were laying low after the last job?

Prob'ly would've been smart. Was catchin' up on spending my whisky fund, actually.

Feller had too much mouth on him, though, so I didn't learn nothin' 'fore guttin' him.

--------------------

Any locks that aren't that well built, I can probably crack.

Sounds confident. Perhaps I'll give you a job that can really test such skills.

--------------------

Ah surely a new face, tell me..got a name?

Our mutual friend didn't tell you? I was told I'd be expected..

A name could be given, but "We" have not met before. Rather not be speaking to someone unexpected.

Of course, merely a matter of my insatiable curiosity. Apologies for my rudeness.

--------------------

"We" been hearing a lot of bad things about you..in a good way.

Sounds like someone has a big mouth....in a good way.

More so, good eyes.. So let me get straight to the point. The Landlord been impressed with you thus far. So now its time to see what you really can do. *He pulled out a scroll then slowly slid it on the table towards him*

*He scans the note before tucking it away* Ah, medicine delivery. I can definitely play courier.

Impressive, the reports hold true. Your surely a careful man with guile and the right stuff. The reward will be handsome.

Within the city, for the effort of proselytising, a Scion of Siamorphe has been distributing scriptures with a generous amount of copies so they may be taken home to be read. The exact reason why, is not known presently just that the priestess found it warranted to say when asked "It is time to open dialogue on these matters of faith, and to heal the rifts between men of all status within the fine city of Baldur's Gate. Hail the Grand Dukes."

The priestess, named a Scion in their faith invites the curious over to the questions of noblesse oblige for commoner and noble alike. Why the tenants of faith are not just relegated to those of noble status, and instead offers challenge in question for the priestess to meet. "Come with your difficult questions, they'll be welcomed." Copies of the The Scriptures are found within an open Shrine in the estate of Lord Vale in the Manorborn district.

For the Watchmen!

*As soon as Norin Brows heard of a dead Watchmen found in someone elses grave, he makes haste to the Citadel to put in a request to the higher ranking officers , a request to help with the safety and security of the city and the on going investigation*

*Watchmen Norin Brows was likely not been seen in a tenday. However he resurfaced doing his normal patrols. Along his patrolling he made stops at the Three Kegs inn seeing someone. Since he had not found whom he was looking for, he left a not with one of the many bartenders addressed to Afendaria . It was information in regards to the two dead Watchmen. *

"Tell the woman to also share the information with the one name Nathan Goldmane.*

-----------------------------

*The City Guard continued his patrols afterwards, but as he reached the Manor District, he started to head directly to the Everwinter Estate. It seems Watchmen Brows had received word from a fellow Watchmen, that he was requested for an important meeting. Meeting with the Matron of the House has always been on a professional level and never personal. However he knew there was no way he was going to slip past the designated bartender of the Estate. His recent promotion would surely attract attention with a particular bartender..*

A curious entourage comprised of Sir Gaven Arkalis, Sir Vastan Reynolt, Saer Jax Winter, Chamberlain Oth Neren of House Darius, and Lord Osric Vale escorts the druid Ferrick Card from the Temple of Mystra to the Flaming Fist Headquarters. There, after a heated discussion and over Jax's objections, the group convinces an extremely reluctant Ferrick to submit himself for quarantining after exposure to demonic influence. Manacled by Vastan on Gaven's order, he is led down to the Fist holding cells.

Osric requests the Fist to keep Ferrick quarantined with the other victims of the abyssal corruption at Ulgoth's Beard for now, until the affliction is ended and Ferrick's mind is restored.

Flaming Fist officers on duty at the organization's fortress headquarters today overheard a rather dramatic moment near the entry foyer for the castle. Heated arguments went on for the better part of a candle-mark as a pair of knights, and Lord Vale, restrained a sometime visitor to the gate that was poorly shaven but well dressed. Emotions ran high, angry accusations were made, a brief physical altercation was quickly quelled, but in the end the scruffy man was lead away in manacles to some of the more comfortable holding areas the keep had available. The scene ended with an associate of the prisoner admonishing his captors, followed by a solemn silence as all involved parties departed the building.

After spending a day being bombarded by appeals for Ferrick's release, learning of previously unforeseen risks in keeping Ferrick quarantined in an antimagic cell, and confirming the appearance of abyssal blackgrass was related not to Ferrick's presence (but rather the purging of wards keeping the blackgrass' spread at bay), Osric makes the decision to petition the Flaming Fist for Ferrick to be transferred to the Shrine of Suffering for treatment. He also confirms that there are no others currently being held under quarantine.

Before departing the Fist Headquarters, Osric offers the druid a sincere apology for the circumstances that led to his confinement.

In the wake of a meeting at House Vale, and an impromptu trip to Ulgoth's Beard, Adrian makes good on his promise to Lord Osric.

Arriving at the Lady's Hall Church of Tymora, Adrian initially spends a few hours joining patrons and petitioners in games. Win or lose, Adrian maintains his soft smile, happy to simply spend some time in the halls of Lady Luck.

After speaking a private prayer to Tymora, Adrian seeks out High Lady Priestess of Tymora Leeta in the church, and shares his plea: for the church to aid in the cleansing of the fiendish grass spreading in and beyond Ulgoth's Beard.

He understands such endeavors are not typically part of what the church involves itself in. But shares a growing worry that, if not stopped, the grass will eventually spread far enough to hamper new adventures by being too dangerous to undertake except by the most seasoned and wealthy adventurers.

Regardless of High Lady Leeta's answer, now or after deliberation, he thanks her for her time, and promises to continue fostering new adventures among those he meet.

Spread the Cure

*As illness can spread, so too should the cure. Knowledge can preserve life, and it is no surprise that notes and parchments of warning will find their way where they are most needed. In this case, it is in the name of cure and care, against the sickness born of the black grass and its taint. This parchment will be given to the Shrine of the Suffering, it will be found at the board to notice and aid further still. Written in pine-green ink, in the hand of an artist of elvish origin.*
Hear and remember, cityzens of Baldurs Gate:

The black grass spreads like a sickness in the earth. Its blades are tainted, its roots drunk with rot.
Do not touch it.
Do not cut it.
Do not burn nor carry it.
Do not go near it, whether it stands doubtful or clearly defiled.
To reach toward it is to invite its poison into your flesh.

If any soul has brushed against its shadow, haste must be made. Do not linger or loiter.
Seek out your next deity’s faithful, those who hold shrine or blessing in the name of mercy. In Baldur’s Gate, give thanks to Sister Carys, whose hard work has shown that there is cure.

The rite of cleansing is thus:
Cover the infected and the doubtful against evil, any shield or circle to prevent further contagion.
First, the devotee must cast break curse and then cure disease upon the sufferer, swift, one after the other, without delay. Keep shielding the rite with Protection from Evil, for the taint clings and resists.
When the illness turns, the patient shall vomit forth a black pellet, shaped like the casting of owl or cat. Touch it not with bare hand, nor let it rest unguarded. Pour upon it holy water, strong and blessed, until it is dissolved to nothing.
Repeat this treatment as often as the shadow clings. Do so as long as needed, until no signs of illness remain and no blackness comes forth, so that no poison lingers. Only then is the spirit free of its grasp.
As a ward and gentle pre-cure, plant Angelica near the sickbed. Brew it into strong teas, and let the patient drink deeply. Better to be safe and sound than to let even a whisper of the taint remain.

If you seek further guidance, go to the Shrine of the Suffering in Baldur’s Gate.

May the gods and goddesses keep their hands over us,

Tramahsthas Auvrea’elrvis
Tramahsthas Auvrea'elrvis [trɑː.mɑs.t̪ɑs aʊ.vreə.ɛl.rvɪs] Hail to Angharradh and Erevan

On a perfectly ordinary morning in the Wide, two women teleported into the middle of the market: One heavily wounded underneath her battered armor, the other dressed in dark leathers with a hooded mask. In case their magic and appearance weren't enough to draw attention, the hooded woman cried out for a healer, dropping to the ground beside her companion and withdrawing random vials from her pouch. An adventure gone horribly wrong?

Their words, and the band of guards pouring out of the nearby Mountsend estate, quickly suggest otherwise. Yet there are more stories than sides in this incident:
  • At first, the couple is accused of breaking into the Mountsend estate. The hooded woman certainly looks able and equipped for such a thing.
  • The hooded woman, unmasking herself as Virin of the Commons Militia, fires back with an accusation that there were Cyricist torturers involved.
  • A nearby elven woman is accused of being in league with Virin and her companion, to the satisfaction of a passing dwarf.
  • Virin is later accused of kidnapping the armored woman, a guest of Mountsend's, who was in no fit state to clearly confirm either side's words.
After Virin passed out, Mountsend's guards continued to argue in favor of taking the women back inside the estate, but to no avail: Superior numbers and authority carried the day, and the Watch eventually took them into custody.

As the Commons lieutenant once again makes her presence known in the city, questions abound. Who was the dark-haired woman with her? What *really* happened in the Mountsend estate? Where has she been all this time, and why? And how, if at all, does it relate to the disappearances of Rhaeg and Robb Strong?

Some of the answers will come more readily than others...

Thanks to Tristam and Mimic for filling me in on the aftermath!

In the days since her arrest, it slowly becomes apparent to interested parties that the Watch has released Virin from custody. The accusation of kidnapping, it seems, has been denied by her wounded companion, and the authorities have either forgiven her unlawful entry into the Mountsend estate or concluded that it was intended to rescue the other woman all along.

Yet as suddenly as she revealed herself, so does she disappear again: Although she is evidently in no obvious trouble with the law, it is clear from last year's attempts on Speaker Rhaeg's life, the infiltration by the succubus formerly known as Petra, and the now-exposed framing of Robb Strong, that the Commons are in an existential struggle with something. The identity or even quantity of their foes is perhaps unknown even to them, but they are obviously both able and willing to attack them by means illegal and immoral alike. Perhaps by remaining out of sight, they hope to frustrate this unseen enemy's attacks...

A keen mind may start to put some of the pieces together. The probable theft of the letter implicating Lord Hargrove in the assassinations before his exoneration; the inflammatory blood flyers posted throughout the city some five months ago; and now the apparent rescue of a secret prisoner from Lord Mountsend's estate: All of these would have required a skillset now openly known to be in the young redhead's possession. All of these have violated, if not the spirit, then certainly the letter of the law. And all of these could be interpreted as drawing attention to the skeletons in their enemies' closets.

Is Vincent Hargrove still on that list of enemies? After these recent events, and the Militia's previous efforts in fighting off Cyricist influence... is Rictor Mountsend?

Tones of lute were flowing over the outskirts of Baldurs Gate. Near the fields, a blonde half-elven woman was sitting on a stone.
Dreamfull her eyes were looking around. Gentle her fingers were pluging the strings. Finally a calm and expansive melody evoled.
Finally a clear voice rose together with the sun
~
~
Golden sunbeams kiss the fields.
Ripe ears of corn swaying in the wind.
Earth moist with morning dew.

Earthmother, the time has come.
Earthmother, bless our efforts.

Scythe ready to cut through the fields
Ripe ears of corn fall to the ground.
Carefully gathered until sunset

Earthmother, the time has come
Earthmother, bless our harvest.

Brought home what the fields yield
Threshed and stored,
The true gold of the fields.

Earthmother, the time has come.
Earthmother, bless the work of our hands

In the early shine of the sun above the fields,
Striding and dancing.
With a kind smile.

Earthmother, the new seed will come.
Earthmother, we thank you.

The City Watchmen Norin Brows has been seen more often patrolling the streets of Baldurs in attempt to represent the City Watch influence. He takes his time patrolling Districts such as the Manorborn, Temple and the Wide while looking for anything suspicious or out of place. No what what troubles the city of Baldurs, he was making sure, all the recruits were on their patrols and showing their presence in such dedicated areas.

The city would be reminded, Watchmen Norin Brows, was now able to enforce the laws because he was no longer a recruit.
