Re: WARLOCKS!
What about the idea that all warlocks are subject to permadeath?
all warlock pacts are made with nefarious and powerful creatures, at least in fr. All of these creatures collect on their contract/pact and find a way indirectly or directly expedite collection of their dues. There is only one arch devil that lends out power for longer periods of time but he considered a radical, maverick, and possibly mistaken as a fool because of this.
Key to playing a warlock is too know that you will die a premature and horrible death and suffer for it for eternity, like being married.
So again, the dms should make these entities enforce your pact like we do when we catch holy rollers doing the opposite of what their faith demands.
If you tell me a warlock can live forever and escape their fate, yeah that goes way beyond any Mary sue survey. Might as well make them a lesbian, vampire, half celestial, half eladrin from the feywild while you are at it.
all warlocks are damned as soon as they sign up. Hell demonic pacts, the demon will just out right kill you as soon as you say yes, because they are the purest form of crazy, stupid evil you can find in the lore.

Re: WARLOCKS!
trust paladin isn't to much fun sometimes, your rp is control by your by-laws,
also if you see a paladin acting the fool, you can always contact the radiant heart, paladins are suppose to stand for the greater good, if they don't they are usually seeked out and their powers removed one way or another....The only thing paladins hate more then evil is a paladin that has gone evil, it reminder that they can fall from grace.
Paladins are more susceptible to permastrike in general, and most don't live past 30 years...
so yea becoming a paladin is pretty much signing an early death sentence...and those that survive usually end up with a deskjob
Luckily most people can't get past level 10 on a paladin, or they grow bored of them. Paladin's pretty much suck until level 15...I've rcr mine a couple times
Warlock is a powerhouse though in the beginning so that's why you get a lot of bad ones that don't know the rp..

Here is a quick statistic on paladin vs warlock.Wolfrayne wrote: Can we punish bad paladins as well while we are at it?
in my tenure here, we stripped and fell 3 paladins from grace, stripped two good aligned clerics of their powers and perm'd 0 warlocks. That is just what I know of.
To me that says we crack down hard on good guys deviating away from their class more than anyone else. This is probably why warlocks always get the "how do you play.... wtf is wrong with..... And you are doing it wrong" threads with ig warlocks and their players.
However, I don't believe consequences alone can fix the situation contrary to my reputation. Education is the key and an ig ic way to easily access those educational tools is the best prevention in addition to permanent consequences.

And sometimes people need a simple cannot go wrong characters to get a hang off the server. You cannot 'ruin' a warlock regardless of what you do. Literally.
And people do get better, with time.

Nope, warlocks are just way smarter than paladins.TheVoid wrote:Here is a quick statistic on paladin vs warlock.Wolfrayne wrote: Can we punish bad paladins as well while we are at it?

Re: WARLOCKS!
I've already read through Knightmare's warlock lore post, I can'd do an evil warlock because the character who I want to become a Fey pact warlock is currently (Gets ready for the hail of fire) A paladin and I just don't like the RP, I don't feel comfortable playing a Paladin or Lawful good. Now that said, I know for a fact that even if my character walks away from his paladinhood he would never ever consider a pact with a devil or demon unless some sort of horrific and drastic change took place in his life...that's why I figured a pact with a Fey would be more likely for him to take part in. As I've told other people I have discussed this with I don't expect this to happen very quickly or overnight and once it does happen my character would certainly not go around flaunting his powers screaming "HE LOOK AT ME I'M A GOOD WARLOCK"...In Faerun that would be akin to shouting, "HE LOOK AT ME I'M A GOOD TERRORIST", in modern times.Xanfyrst wrote:Sure, there's plenty of wiggle room with both classes.... problem with that is that players thinks that means they can RP whatever they want and disregard the lore behind both classes, which I find bloody damn important for immersion.
It ruins it a bit for me to see so many paladins breaking their codes on a daily basis and fey-pacted warlocks who wants hugs and forgiveness while still use their evil powers.
Seraphim, I would suggest contacting Knightmare for warlock information. He knows a fair bit about it. Especially the evil kind, that has become so rare nowadays.

Being as unknowledgable as I was when I first started the character concept that was one of the ideas I had lol. After doing some reading and talking to a DM I realized how absolutely insane that was.7threalm wrote:warlock of torm ?

Re: WARLOCKS!
I think what should be implemented here is the entities that would allow pacts and their information much like when you select a deity to worship.
Only a few entities should be listed for each kind of pact or PrC available. We add a limited amount of entities that would grant pacts such as Asmodeus/Mephistopheles (infernal pact) Demogorgon/Graz'zt(Dark pact), Titania, oberron (fey pact), etc...
An entity or number of entities for each kind of pact, which limits the choices but gives each pact making warlock a focus knowing who is giving them their "gifts" and what alignments and types of pacts they represent. DM's would also know this and can react accordingly or observe the behavior of the warlock much how we evaluate holy classes following tenants of the god listed on their character sheet.
The entity listed can also determine eligibility of certain heritage feats as well as PrC's like Hellfire warlock which should ONLY BE GIVEN TO PACT MAKERS/WARLOCKS THAT HAVE MEPHISTOPHELES AS THE ENTITY CHOSEN ON THEIR CHARACTER SHEET.... Fey Heritage feat to those that list Arch Fey like Titania, Oberron, etc...
It lessens some of the more absurd homebrew backgrounds that many noob warlock players conjure up, it also educates a bit more or at least makes someone aware that what they choose HAS AN EFFECT ON THEIR CHARACTER AND CERTAIN EXPECTATIONS.
It is a lot less work to add or remove deities/entities allowed to a warlock than to create a whole slew of pact feats that I was suggesting earlier... to educate the player on the pact chosen as a background feat.
