Please be aware that this thread will likely be locked if it devolves into a back-and-forth argument between two small groups of players. In my experience, those rarely evolve into healthy discussions that are representative of the community's interests or even opinions.

This thread should also be moved to the correct forums for this discussion: http://bgtscc.net/viewforum.php?f=29

If you have suggestions for correcting or improving the shop, I am sure that QC would be happy to consider them. Unless we remove the items from the game entirely, though, removing the shop at this point would likely create a situation where a couple dozen people have powerful grandfathered items, and many others do not -- reinventing the complaint cycle I believe this whole idea was designed to counter?

The complaint has been around how disconnected the shop has been with roleplay. How much it has effected previous gathered gear. If one has to compare for instance, with the time and effort one spends to finish a singular rp campaign, (which doesnt get you epic gear like the shop offers - in fact you need to do several campaigns to come near the quality of goods.), it still doesn't compare to the rewards offered for dungeon running over multiple characters. Hack'n slash.
AC81s post/quote, not mine. though i don't disagree with it :)

There's actually a few of them in there...

As far as the shop in general, it's really impossible to say what the long term effects will be. Maybe we need to give it a few months and re-evaluate.

Which one? Avernus? There's some gear in 100k..200k range sold elsewhere as well.
Akroma666 wrote:Do you do quests?
Do you play the auction house at all?
Do you sell gear?
All those activities are quite unfun.

So, if someone were avoiding all that for obvious reason, they could easily only have 8k gold after 4 years.

Opportunity to gain epics through what DnD intends, by the great quests and story. That is whats needed more, in relation to the shop imo. In respect of the characters that have come before and those still coming to play - and will come forth.

There is a powercreep in items as there is in builds. A RP character has to compete in the same field with those who powerbuild through and though. This changes the dynamic in any adversarial play.

I suppose it's my bad for starting the post, but so far I am happy with the discussion. It hasn't been ugly from my point of view. Everyone's been pretty decent.

My bad. Will remedy this

Truth is, I don't think there is a problem with the grandfathered items. I think the issue there is with allowing them to be muled, but that isn't for this debate.

I agree with you on the first one, but the other 2 are quite fun to many. As AC81 just pointed out, he has a merchant character he loves to play. The shop caters to a play style you dont enjoy, so ignore it like most ignore endless tavern or campfire RP. Fairly simple solution.

Auction house woudl've been fun if it actually happened in-game. Because it doesn't happen in-game, and exists on forums, it is unfun.

Selling gear requires repeated loot runs in hopes that "something good" will drop this time. That's not different from grinding.

Playing a merchant is a very different thing from selling gear. Speaking of which, I've never seen AC81's merchant character in the world and the last time I interacted with him in person was in 2014, when he was playing Quinath Nar.

Why not raise the selling price cap to help ease with with income genration. I'd hate to do a few dungeon runs where the only worthwhile item I pick nets me about 1300 gold. That's worth one heal potion.

I suggest a selling price of 2000 for anything with value of that price to 3500, and from 3500 to 5000 and cap it at that. Something like that.

D&D is about adventure. but our dms cannot oversee every character, as this is a logistical impossibility. therefore, a character's story, is the responsibility of the player

as such, many adventures will happen with no dm present

adventures are the primary way a character will earn gold and items

i enjoy being ic. i also enjoy adventuring ic. i wonder, does that make me a rper or a grinder? why do people find it necessary to label those of a differing opinion or playstyle, then use said term as a derogatory term for another? regardless, it does nothing to further any discussion

a character only has to compete with self imposed limitations, and the boundaries of the server and its rules

it's a multi-class system, meaning it's meant to be used to multi-class a character. a multi-class character, doesnt make the character or its rp value, any more, or any less, valid. but a multi-class character tends to be more capable...and if you're rping a capable adventurer, then perhaps there is a link between the two

that a build cannot match a character's rp, and also be capable, is a fallacy. it is indeed possible to do both, if one chooses

these items were brought into game to close the gap between old and new players, as well as casters and non-casters. that is what the majority of the playerbase and staff has asked for, and that is what we have received
