If there is a way to implement that that would be awesome. People could just wait for the next restart to get out though.Flasmix wrote:I think if your die in avernus, it locks you there until you can actually leave would make the place a lot better.
why is avernus the only epic shop that is hard to get too?

Mystra won't let people leave the fugue if they die. It could be implemented in the same way.
Wirg to Pug: "Iz lat dun?"
Pugratix to a snarky militia man: "Mmmm. Not yet. I will live for hundreds of years and be heralded as one of the greatest forces of destruction on the face of the world. The only thing you can destroy is the outhouse."

True, forgot about that. I think that regardless of if the epic shop is moved out of there or not something like that would be amazing. It would really increase the risk of travelling there and help show just how dangerous of a place it really is.Flasmix wrote:Mystra won't let people leave the fugue if they die. Don't over think this. Move the Epic Shop to a place that makes a tad more sense, such as Darkhold, or Sshamath or Baldur's Gate. Keep Avernus as an awesome Epic Level Challenge with a hearty Boss to murderate. Done.
Tfunke's work shouldn't go unappreciated—though myself I've yet to see it in action—but that doesn't also require having most PCs without a good IC reason to subject themselves to HELL, just to pick up a few Christmas gifts!

Sometimes Christmas shopping IS hell.. now it all makes sense.
Serious note.. I love Tfunke's work , love the difficulty and epic feel and challenge of the area and I hope it stays!! Not only that I hope they add the other 8 layers that I have offered from my old server. (maybe after the server split we'll be able to handle it .. who knows)
As for the epic shop I don't mind that it's there and I won't mind if it's moved. I would like to see the vendor as the planes-hopping wizard type instead of a devil either way.

but, um... op was about setting other epic shops in more epic areas... ..not getting rid of avernus.
and i would be sorely disappointed if the shop was just plopped in baldurs gate.

if the store is moved, i'd like to see it not be broken up into multiple stores. it is the most epic shop after all, and i don't see any benefit in breaking it up

Re: why is avernus the only epic shop that is hard to get to
i actually think most shops should be broken up. weapons shops only sell weapons and armor, etc. the best weapons are found in a weapons only shop, the best armors at the armor specialty shop, best shields at a shield shop, etc, etc. farmers and heal shops should have the best selling prices, so buying healpacks from Maltz would cost more for the convenience.Blame The Rogue wrote:if the store is moved, i'd like to see it not be broken up into multiple stores. it is the most epic shop after all, and i don't see any benefit in breaking it up
i love the farmers stalls... ..except they generally sell for more and buy for less... so you just buy your healpacks from thunderhammer and Blunt. one stop shopping is convenient, but kind of a modern phenomenon.

Re: why is avernus the only epic shop that is hard to get to
I think Avernus is a terrible place to have on the server, at least outside of DM-only areas, but only out of lore, scope and believability concerns.
I in no way dislike the area from a purely technical point of view and I'd like to make that clear to both the players who like the area and the people who worked on it.
Surely there is a compromise somewhere between continuing to have this area as Avernus and eliminating it from the module. Couldn't it be renamed to something else, perhaps given just a slight cosmetic facelift to make it feel less like what it is, have its monsters' skins changed to things other than demons while retaining their abilities and so on? That way, we would no longer have the immersion-breaking presence of an "easily" accessible layer of Baator used as adventuring grounds and shopping center, but we would retain a fun high-epic - or "post-epic", if you will - area for those players who enjoy that sort of thing.

Re: why is avernus the only epic shop that is hard to get to
This area is inaccessible currently because Dragonspear Castle is cut off per the DM campaign. However, the epic items that were sold here are now sold by merchants in Baldur's Gate and Beregost instead (one of the merchants in the Wide in Baldur's Gate East, and a Traveling Merchant near the stables in the west of Beregost).
