dak12attack wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 6:13 pm The Gondar, Eberc Smitherman, can be seen around Roaringshore. He makes little effort in approaching any of the denizens there and heads directly to the Run A Rig shop. Rumor has it the craftsman has been hired to help the Wintertal's with their outrageously dangerous ladder. He spends most of the day measuring the height with a long rope with knots tied at specific intervals and sketching his findings or ideas.

Overnight he rests at the Swordarm Inn and gets very little rest either from the tavern or the town there-in. Either way, it seems Eberc cannot wait to return to Baldur's Gate anytime soon and can be heard muttering his displeasure for the setting. He leaves at day-break, leaving behind a letter and some ideas with the shop-keep. He promises to return, although at a later time whenever construction is said to begin and not a moment before.

Seen around Roaringshore a few times already in the past tendays, a Water Genasi Priestess of Umberlee has been making some rounds asking about the recent presence of the Prince of Lies in the largely Umberlant settlement. Like a storm, she walks around imposing and almost irritable at the empty threats of the Black Sun.

"The Sea is Her domain! Fall not for the deceptions of the Prince of Lies for he reigns over Trickery and Envy, he does not command your ship's wind and he does not command the sea that breaks against your ship's bow. Now it is time for fervor, pay tribute to the Bitch Queen, for She is the one you should fear, She is the one that shall sink your vessel should you not heed Her words."

The Cost of Wants

"You should always consider how much you have,
before you pursue the things you want."

Image

This is your establishment? It looks like it'S full of sailors.

"Pirates.." *He corrected* "And this establishment is owned by Miss Jackie..do remember that name." *He replied as he went to the back door* "And if yer hear for business..say so, I dont get paid to mingle."

Everyone always want something. And most cases, they don't even consider what they even have to offer in order to get what they want. Some men will do anything necessary to obtain what they desire. The only thing I've seen worse than that, is when someone assumes they can obtain what they desire by mere demands or by simply stating what they want. Titles, status, deeds or reputation may mean something in a persons world. But when they step out of their world, their no more important than the barnacles on the haul of a ship.

I am setting up some operations for which I will quite possibly need a ship captain of questionable morals for Money of course! Money!

"I see..but Im not sure how I can be ol help in this particular case.. Because of several reasons. One, my ship would be shot down and sunk anywhere near those waters, two I wont dare do such a thing without permission from a High Captain . This is Roaringshore , their word is law around here, and without blessing from any of the High Five, I might as well be stringing my own neck and hang myself from a tree. And I don't think my boss would like me doing such things specially without her given permission."

Well if YOU yourself can't do it, I figure you can point me towards a pirate captain who can? One of these ''High Captains'' perhaps?

Ever experienced a moment where you extend a hand, and they want the whole bloody arm? Or when you try to be helpful and advise someone with directions on where or the how and you only get raging complaints because things were not reasonable to their liking ? In a world of dungeons and dragons , lost treasures and mishap adventures..there is only one thing a person can expect, that when your not in your own world, nothing may go your way, and getting what you want will never be that easy.

Set up a meet with a High Captain, but, he doesn't get paid until we successfully conduct a raid.

"Oh no no it nae work like that. I can pass a message that yer wish a meet. But you better have yer 300 bags just to have the parlay. Raid or not, thats how it goes. Its how everyone here does it to meet with any ol the Five.

This is a ridiculous way to conduct business! No wonder this town is in such a sorry state......... Noone in their right minds can expect 300 000 gold just for a meet! I'm sorry but there'S no way I give someone 300 000 gold just for talking..... and the possibility he says no......!

*He barks a laugh* "Its Roaringshore luv! Yer want to git with the Five, yer pay for the parlay."

Image

Later that day....

Image

*He approached the guard respectfully* "Ah my good man..ah yes..um..need a message delivered to the High Captains. Um just had a strange visitor in the Goblet...

Pirate Enforcer: "To th' High Captains, eh? Better be more'n some drunkard runnin' his mouth." *He stood resting the back of his blade against his shoulder, looking Sel up and down expectantly.*

"I told her she need to go through the High Captains for such a thing. And to have 300 bags just for the parlay. She nae like having to pay 300 bags fer just the meet, stormed off unhappily but could yer pass that word on?"

Pirate Enforcer: *He grunts in dismay.* "'Nother dreamer with nothin' to back their nonsense up, eh?.. Aye, I'll give word, if only to have eyes kept on her."

"Thank ya Sir, think she try'na to get me involved, but ..I'm just a bartender in all. Nae want to do anything in Roaringshore without the blessins ol a High Capt'n, rather keep my neck and avoid hanging on that tree outside." *He smiles* "Thanks again mate."

Pirate Enforcer: "Aye, I hear ya. Best like the looks of trees from far away, meself."

"Well back to work meself..drinks nae serve themselves!" *He tips his hat*

Pirate Enforcer: *He reached a hand up to touch the brim of his hat, a dip of his head.*

A High Captains Summons

"Bartender! Bartender" ! *He shouted* "Ye wanted at the Hall! High Captain Admiral Dorn summons ye!" *Patrons within the Broken Goblet might rumor around of how one of Captain's Pikes bartender's was being summoned to the High Hall to meet with one of the "Five" *

Image

"Ahhh, if it isn't my favorite Bartender! Good morning, my friend. Good morning!"

*He approaches and gave a formal bow then looked up with a devious smile* "Well met well met..I assume life's been good to ya sir?"

"Absolutely. Now that I can bed every wench I want... not that I didn't earlier anyway! HAHAHA!"

*He barks a laugh but keeps it short to uphold respect to the High Captain* "Hmm which reminds me of something since you mention it but I will hold that for after the reason I asked to speak with ya"

"Speak up, my friend. What brings you here? Oh, certainly, anything. We can speak of whatever you like. But business first, right? Go on. Ask."

*He relaxed his composer and began to speak rather casually with the High Captain which almost seemed like they were good old friends...* "Well yer see....it goes like this...."

Image

*A great deal it be, to speak with a High Captain. Its like having a meeting with one of the Four Dukes of Baldur's but with a whole different culture. A greater feat to be able to sit and speak with one in a casual comfortable manner without the risk of losing your guts or your neck. *

*But what was discussed between a High Captain and a Bartender? ...is between them.*

"The Call for Umberlee!"

*Rumors (in) Roaringshore speak that a man, upon orders of a High Captain, goes around meeting other locals, gathering information and discussing tactics to deal with a rumored sea beasties that were leaving the mark of Cyric on some of the Ships in Roaringshore. A bartender and sorcerer were seen earlier by enforcers heading in the High Captains Hall. Respects were paid to the Bitch Queen in their meeting by way of coins and diamond. After their departure, the man was seen in Roaringshore, going around meeting with those most devoted to Umberlee, and leaving messages at the Sword Arm Inn to put the band of Myrkul necromancers on alert to spill blood if need be.*

Image

"Bloody outsiders think they gon'a disrupt our lives and ships!..Let's show em boys wot happens when outsiders nae respect a Captains ship, or the ways of Roaringshore!" *He sneered* "Come and preach is one thing, messing with a Captains ship, will get yer keelhauled!" *After the spreading of his words and other words in lined and similar, he takes his leave north towards the Field of Dead bound for Baldurs, since he's not trusting the waters. He knew, he had to visit the Water Queen House*

Image

*Someone surely made great effort to get some of the pirates riled up. Even if it meant to spread influencing words cunningly... after a pirate had a few goblets. After all, he knew to influence all the brutish ones.*

A Captain's Ship
"Aye, I be waiting to talk to the High Capt'n again. Those bloody zealots been attack'n our ships. The High Captain's nae to happy ol it. Go find me that Priestess ol Umberlee, since yer said she was rather pissed about these zealots. And you, go try reach out to that friend ol yer's, let em know I be wanting to parlay. In the meantime, I'll head to the Gate and meet with a ol friend ol mine. I know just what they want, and I can use their fire power to deal with these trouble some zealots that thought to mess wit ships ol Roaringshore."

Image

In my experience, there's all sorts of pirate types. There's the little runts that be eager to make a name for themselves, then the ones that enjoy the filthy life of a poor freeman that eagerly seeks to raid and plunder to feel the sensation of luxury even if but a brief moment. Then you got the real seasoned harden leather face ones, that be brutal to the bones and seen death so much its a common thing like drinking water. And then you have Pirate Captains. They too have their own trending ways, and ways of doing things. Each care for their own interests. But each one bound to a code, an a code is what they live by. But one thing they all do have in common is their love for their ships.

Image

A ship to a pirate is worth more than any riches, because a pirate needs a ship to get riches. Theirs ship's worth more than woman, because to a Pirate, a man with no ship is a man that wont get a woman unless a flea bottom (germbag) of course. But what woman wants a pirate that don't even have their own ship or not even to be crewmember that works on a ship. To a Pirate Captain and his crew, a ship is everything. And when someone messes with their ship, they going to see the worse kind of pirate, one with a lot of friends.

Anyone that might have been looking for Sel in the Broken Goblet,
would be told by staff that he was on leave and was doing an errand for the High Captain's.
If asked when Sel would return, only shrugs and words of "I wouldn't know" were likely the response.

It happened all of a sudden. A ghost ship appeared at night, near the docks of Roaringshore, floating above the icy waters. It isn't clear what it wanted, or whom it wanted, but it is rumored that during the night some idiots decided to go and check. They floated above a ghostly rowboat, and then...

...only screeches of death.

What happened to the fools is unknown, probably devoured by the fog or whatever creature infested that ship. Eventually dawn came, and the ship disappeared like mist. The pirates no doubt would have had a lot to talk about in the coming days...

Rumors in Roaringshore

One of the local residence of Roaringshore had spread the details of an encounter with a mage and an elf that came to the village in search of the Wintertals, whom are a known married couple that also lives in Roaringshore. The elf was given warning that his presence alone could get him enslaved or worse. The elf seeming bold enough to ignored the advice by one of the resident known as the Rat Queen. However not soon after the rising insults between the one know as Rat and this elf who self claimed to be "Kalidorian The Nighten Gale". The tale continued of a unknown man who arrived just moments after the initial verbal confrontation. This man in particular had also voice out that he too was seeking the Wintertal's. According to this man who was unknow at the time, even stated "That it was the goal of Duke Eltan that the Wintertals be brought in "Peacefully" and that something about the Public News was not intended stating someone shared the report without cause. It was told the mage and elf and the unknown man that looked like some knight or paladin left to the Run o Rig shop, which was the home of the Wintertals.

Image

Another local resident of Roaringshore whos known as one of the Broken Goblets Bartender was seen within the Tavern hearing the tale of what had transpired. Patrons in the Broken Goblet and locals outside would had seen later how the Bartender and Rat Queen had went to check on the Wintertals. If anything was heard, it was surely how the Bartender grumbled and complained about that unsafe ladder next to the pawn shop!

"For fok sakes, I know this a blimey pirate village but this bloody ladd'a a sure way to death. Bloody women likely made this fer folks to look up their fok'n skirts!"

After arriving to the home of the Wintertals, the Bartender known as Sel and the little woman known as Rat had asked Jim of the whereabouts of the Wintertals and their recent visitors while keeping their eyes on a very agitated Guard Dog. Being told everyone had left, the bartender explained his visit and informed Jim there might be a chance a lot of pirates might soon come over looking for these visitors before he wished Jim a fruitful day before making his leave with the Rat Queen.

Image

The bartender remembering what had happened last incident when he vouched for an elf, decided he surely wasn't going to go through that again. So he took little woman to the High Captain's Hall where he made sure a detail report was delivered to the High Captains.

Image

"Just help'n the little lass make a proper report about the incident matey, nae want any ol the Five to think, we dare not report any transgressions in all."

Much later in the evening however..more information had arrive to the pirate village known as Roaringshore, and even later a particular sending came to the bartender of the Broken Goblet. The night had ended with full facts and details of each visiting individuals that came in search of the Wintertals under the orders of one of the Dukes of Baldur's Gate...

Laei from the Phoenix Company an arcane practioner of the Mystran Temple
Kalidorian The Nighten Gale from the Phoenix Company
Sir Sean Asen from the Radiant Hearts

Additional rumors further mentioned, of how the Knight from the Radiant Hearts "Tried to appeal to her better nature, and failing, he said that he would have done the Dukes will and even attacking in there if needed, though no sword was drawn."

Image

Who know's what declaration will come from the High Captain's of Roaringshore, bad enough, the village had their own troubles with Cyric Zealots attacking ships. One thing for sure is, the bartender of the Broken Goblet and his assistant had did their part as residence of the Shore.

Looking After

*As the door opens, a man in dark clothing with golden hoop earrings and unkempt hair steps in boldly. A set of dark eyes scans the entrance area before looking over to the vendor and the guard dog.*

Image

"Oi Jim Bones nae sure yer get the message, but flower ask me to be lookin out fer the Rig while her and that chaotic wife ol her's be away. " *He lifts a shaking finger pointing at Jim* "Yer keep makin them sales, and do wot yer blimey can to keep providing the clothes to customers." *He walks over behind the desk and picks up a random trinket giving it a brief examination before picking up a bottle of perfume and spayed it in the air to smell the scent before twitching his nose* "By the crows, those Winteral's got's to be the worse pirates. Continue work , and make sure Lucky rips the throat of the next fok'n elf or Paladin that dare comes in the front door. Those damn girl's wouldn't be in the bloody mess they in, if they just kept their cheeky arses in the Shore. Pay attention Jimmy boy, yer can learn sumth'n, don't go mess'n with them Gate folks, and play bloody hero, or yer end up like yer bosses, Wanted!."

*He makes his way towards the front door then paused in step glancing at Jim* "And lastly, if anyone come in here look'n for the Wintertals, Yer tell em, Sel say they nae here. If they ask anyth'n more, yer tell'n no on knows. OH and be'for I ferget..anyone one com'n in here trying to preach the dogma ol Cyric, yer tell em to get the fok out and yer nae given them any service yer hear me Jim boy? High Captain's nae happy those bloody zealots messing with our ships! See'n as I'm look'n after the Run ol Rig, that makes me boss fer now until the girls get back." *He turns and spits in the nearby trash barrel*. "Fair winds Jim..Lucky, I leav'n, nae stay'n much longer, I fear my bloody und'a wear may turn blimy pink if I do!" *He opened the front door and stepped out to the winds of ocean and took a deep breath followed by a long sigh before grumbling out loud* "Bloody damn women, I got me own shite to be deal'n wit. I better get a bag ol gems fer this shite."

*Rumor's would spread only to those within Roaringshore that the Bartender Sel was looking after the Run a Rig shop. The Shop's vendor Jim Bones, would mention to any that came asking about the Wintertals, that they were not in the Village, and that Sel was looking after business until they return.*

*Earlier in the city of Baldur's Gate, a man entered the Water Queen House. Humbled words for acceptance given, coins passed for tithe, hands clasped together as the head bows before the priestess for prayer*

"Great Umberlee, hear me! Great Queen of the Sea,
Too long have some men neglected of your true way and failed to be reminded of your domain,
For those of us that have not forgotten, we tread carefully,
to avoid crying in the time of your need, and hope you protect those that respect the high seas.

Take now my offerings in gold and gems, in exchange for your protection in what I must do,
for what I do will be within your domain, and let those that witness upon me, know I come as an extended
hand of your wrath, and let me fill the waters with corpse of those that dare pervert it with their mere presence.
Please accept now this offering."

*Later back in Roaringshore, crewmen were moving with haste, as a Captain was barking orders*

Image

"Move it yer slow slugs, my coins nae pay'n fer drink'n on the job, get to it yer bloody scoundrels, and nae fer'get to ward me ship and have those gust ol winds at the ready, we needs to be swift and fast for when the time is needed"

Ships, Ships, and Ships.

*Those in the pirate village known as Roaringshore would seen the ship "The Sparrowhawk" come in for some minor alterations and repairs along with maintenance. Barnacles scrapped off the hauls, a few pieces of furniture removed, while others were brought in. The sounds of hammers pounding nails rang throughout most days.*

"Aim high, swing hard leave it out there no regrets,
my blood is in the water and the sharks are takin’ bets,
They circle in waiting for my final breath
But they won’t see me drown...."

"I hoist my sails for the treasure in the sea
the winds that blow behind me take me where I’m supposed to be
I’m raisin’ hell for the ones who don’t believe
Their words can't drag me down..

When the wind rips the tide
I will sail reach the other side
Let the storm roll on wild
I was born for this

I’m unsinkable
Woah-oh-oh
Woah-oh-oh
Woah-oh
I’m unsinkable
Woah-oh-oh
Woah-oh-oh
Woah-oh
I’m unsinkable
Ooooohh - Yeah"

An odd pair would have been seen arriving at the docks, passing through on their way elsewhere: An old, dark-skinned witch, accompanied by a knightly figure in entropium armor. The latter seemed distinctly displeased and uncomfortable with her surroundings; it is not clear how the witch might have compelled the knight to pass through the Shore, but she would clearly have preferred to raze the pirate den to the ground instead of simply passing through it...
