Following a cold night on the streets, with much vicious coughing and a chill, the red-haired woman of the day prior is approached by a handsome man clad in dark armors. Though wary at first, the two speak quietly in the alley for a time, Anastacia is handed a small vial of curative liquid and wrapped in a dark cloak. After speaking with some passing Ilmateri, the dark-haired man took back his cloak as they entered the East District and departed as mysteriously as he had arrived, leaving Anastacia, now cured, to her freedom. Selling the only possession that remained to her after the robbery, her sword, she managed to purchase clothing that suited her tastes. After some recovery and a warm meal at the temple of Ilmater, she went on her way - thankful for the eventual kindness of strangers.

The Priests of Ilmater were handing out free cures for the plague in the docks district. After a few people were cured and passed the word on, a large crowd of sick people engulfed the tiny operation. The crowd soon became restless and verbally violent. It was then an arrow flew forth and struck a volunteer working with the Ilmater priests. It sent the crowd into a panicked frenzy, which spiraled out of control. The Priests were in grave danger.

Fortunately, the Flaming Fist arrived to maintain order and get the volunteers out of the situation. However, the damage was down. Quite a few citizens and 4 Flaming Fist lay dead.

After they are given permission by the first the paladin Erza sets of to gather the men to guard the volunteers of the temple, after a letter to Grandmaster Arkaine, all of the Radiant Heart are ordered to join in the protection of the volunteers, excluding only those few left to guard the compound.

Shortly after the paladin heads to Naskiel and gets the The Everwatch Knights assistance as well, writing a letter to the silver rose to see whom they might send.

She puts out a notice all those whom are willing and interested in helping are to find her, she will offer payment out of her pocket.

Those whom show up will be instructed to work under Head WatchKnight Sveta Asperan and in collaboration with brother ameris to ensure the cure is handed out, and to help maintain order in a method that dose not break the paladins code or any orders given by the fist.

The paladin is seen looking for the leaders of the exchange commity after.

It seemed that the best of efforts sometimes does not always work out as intended. The number of people sick in the docks were far more than any of the volunteers had thought and the crowd was too much in a frenzy to be persuaded by words, song or displays of magic.

It was evident that something needs to be done - there are not enough cures distributed in the docks to cure the sick there in the quarantine.

A woman with raven hair, a white face mask and tattered grey robes of the Ilmateri was seen nervously trying to hand out curing potions among the other volunteers. She was later seen being furious at Cienne and the paladin Erza, as the women tried to turn a priest's faith against him so that he would act according to their goals.

A note accompanied by a letter is given to the sisters of the temple of Ilmater, directed for Brother Marcus, the note reads as follows

Brother Marcus,

It was request by Brother Santraegar I send my plan of action against the disease for your consideration before it is passed on to the Flaming Fist. Should you approve I ask you send a courier to the Flaming Fist for their own consideration. Should you disapprove, or wish to amend the plan I should be available for discussion within the temple of Ilmater, if not I will be within the temple of the High Guardian.

Helm’s guidance,
Sveta Asperan
Head Watchknight of the Everwatch

The letter reads as follows

I have been in discussion with invested parties dealing with this disease and it has been indicated that it continues to spread within the quarantine zone faster that it can be administered to. While efforts of distributing cures to the docks will give relief to the people suffering to the disease it is unconfirmed whether those administered are immune to the disease, or whether they are merely resistant to the disease. Comparable to throwing cups of water at a fire, unless we have a bucket of water large enough to smother the fire, the fire will continue to burn until it dies down on its own regard. We simply do not have the medical supplies to overcome the disease in this way. It is my belief a more direct approach strangle holding the disease may be the best course of action.

Below is a map is Baldur’s Gate, the red lines currently indicate the quarantine established by the Flaming Fist, separating the docks districts from the others of the city. What I am to propose is that we slowly encroach the quarantine closer upon the blue lines, using the passage ways of the blocks of houses as holding points for the quarantine. While the Flaming Fist hold the existing barrier of quarantine I will lead and conduct the establishment of a new border along the blue lines as indicated, within the boundaries established between the new border and old priests, and clerics will administer to the diseased, burning and disposing of any traces holding the disease. Once the zone has been cleared is it my hope the Flaming Fist will advance their quarantine to the new border established. The old border will be then dismantled for use in establishing the next.

Image
((apologies for the poor photoshop))

It is my belief that this will be the best course of action for the abolishment of the disease, with each step we take the noose upon the diseases neck is slowly tightened. However it will take cooperation from efforts by my lead, the healers and the Flaming Fist. While I have been approached by many volunteers offering their help against the disease I will simply not have the man power to be able to sustain the new borders, I implore the Flaming Fist to take upon this role.

The plan is not perfect, it will leave many deeper within the docks to rely upon the aid of the temple of Umberlee until we are able to reach them. The sewers will have to be surveyed so they will not undermine the plan, and sources of medical supplies will be needed to be established to sustain the efforts. However given our finite supplies I believe this will in the end of the day abolish the disease from the docks the swiftest and save the most lives. I request these plans to remain quiet, should the population of the docks figure out what is being conducted I fear they will rush the new border of quarantine for treatment before they will be able to be erected.

I will be available at either the temple of Ilmater, or temple of the High Guardian should you wish to discuss these plans in person.

Helm’s guidance,
Sveta Asperan
Head Watchknight of the Everwatch

*sometimes alone, sometimes with others, two cowled figures are seen speaking to the inhabitants of the Docks. They appear almost priest-like in their cowled robes, but the robes lack the loose cut of clerical cloth and shroud bodies that are lean, taut and lithe.

They appaer not to offer healing but only to speak with the residents, both those plagued and those still healthy...*

An Ilmateri mission, protected by a number of adventurers from around the coast, headed into the sewers in order to bring potion based cure to both mugger (those who were subdued and not slain, at least) and beggar alike.

Image

Potions were left at various points bearing the mark of the Ilmateri, or near unconcious gang members; the thought being that any spread of the disease must be curtailed.

A man dressed in the bardic tradition stands upon a podium in the eastern district, speaking his truth to those that pass. His words are directed to the people of the Gate, but between them, stand another class of either dwellers or citizens.
  • Behold...and realize....
A sickness is upon you, creeping within these walls....
And...there is little that you, the people, can do....other than embrace what may be your death, or the death of your families...
The Church of Mercy has failed you....
The barricades will never be high enough to protect you...
    The Dukes are failing you...
Alas...see the truth before your eyes!
Hhave you given tribute enough...tribute to the Queen!
Death is a fate that all must embrace...embrace it with courage, though you suffer.
Do not fear it, and cling without hope to the false prothlesizing of the Temple of Mercy...for they only promise failure...as you have seen.
The dead line the streets of the Harbor...and before long, the Eastern District as well as the Palace District, will succomb.
But you need not fear death...no, give tribute to chaos, revel in this mighty sickness touching you...and give in to it so that you will not suffer....
Give tribute to the Queen of the Depths....by bringing storm and sea to clense the streets of the sickness.
    Yes!
Give tribute to the Queen! Ask that she protect the life blood of trade of this city, upon the seas.
Do not succomb to the false promises of a cure that is not lasting!
You have seen for yourself how the Temple of Mercy offers a cure, only to pick and choose whom to give it.
Then....even they that receive it, still die.
Death is a certainty. It is fate.
    Do not fear fate.
People of the Gate...embrace the chaos...that is the only way.
Seek solace through tribute to the Queen of the Depths.

Praise her, for protection...and to bring a cure to this city, before it is completely ravaged!

Pray to the Queen of the Depths to bring a storm of such magnificance that it will cleanse these streets.

There is no cure mortals can offer the sick people...there is nothing the Dukes can do. But the Queen! Yes! Ask for divine intervention...by the one that can bring storm, wind and a clensing!

    The sickness is here....it grows!
Look to the dead bodies that fall to the cobblestones every day.

Why? Why can the barricades not help? Why do the Dukes not have a cure?
It is chaos working its natural way...but divine intervention...a great storm...Yes! Let the Water Queen bring a clensing to the Gate!
Do not give into false hopes.

Do not give into meager mortal attempts to cure the sick.
    It is all a lie!
Pay tribute to the Water Queen...and seek redemption...before it is too late!

The Water Queen...pray to her to bring a great storm...to clense this city with rain, wind and the power of salt in the sea.
The Gate requires a great clensing! The sick pile upon each other, day after day. No cure by the Church of Mercy is adequate...no barricade is high enough to protect the poor, the rich...nobody!
The Dukes cannot do what the Gods must do...so pray to the Water Queen, for a clensing from the divine.
    Do not fear the sickness!
    Embrace the end.
Pay tribute to the Water Queen, while you can.
Ask her to protect the lifeblood of trade of this city....and to bring a clensing.

    Let it be swift...
    *he points to Lakosos*
Louder! Let it be heard far and wide!

    You words ring with power!

Pray for redemption. Fear false promises!

Break through the barricades! Seek redemption in the Queen's House!
    Seek it whereever you go!

Many will die...but many may live...if proper tribute is given.
She is the Queen of the Depths...her name, Umberlee. Her House is here, in the Gate.

She protects the life blood of trade of this city. It is foolish to deny her tribute.
Let her chaotic ways bring a storm of clensing, to the Gate. But all must give tribute!
Look around you...people of the Gate...

Look around you...see how false potions of a cure fail time and time again to deliver you from the sickness!
No barricades are high enought to stop the sickness!
It is only through diving intervention...that the sickness may subside!

    *he looks to Marigold*
Do you not know...the Queen is patron of coastal dwellers...and those that earn their livelihood by the sea.
The Gate is married to her, by nature....she must be given tribute!
And so...pray that she may bring a storm of cleansing....

Mortal cures are failing...seek the direct power of the Gods!

*he looks to Lokastos* Yes! All must show her tribute...in prayer, or more....given to her or her House!

Death is upon the city! Embrace it...do not fear it. False hopes will only make the suffering worse!

If you seek redemption....pay tribute to the Water Queen!

No barricades are high enough to protect you!

The Dukes do not have a cure...and if they do, they keep it to themselves!

Those that give mercy only make the suffering last longer!
Seek a divine clensing...seek a storm that will clense the sickness....

Even in death....tribute to the Queen may save your family, your children....
Do not linger on mercy...it can only prolong the suffering!

Pray for the Water Queen to bring a great clensing to the Gate...a storm that can do what no potion of mercy, no barricade continues to fail to do!

Chaos is natural...chaos is this sickness...but chaos is also a cure!
Pray to the power of the sea, for the strength of the storm to come!

I speak to you of only what you already know!

This is a city of people of the sea trade...do not follow those that falsely offer a cure...it only prolongs the suffering!

*looks to Marigold* I only speak the truth...

There is no luck needed in the truth.

Only the foolish deny the Water Queen's power!
People of the Gate! Listen to me!

Give tribute to the Water Queen's House...and ask her to bring a storm of clensing!

Yes! I speak the truth! You...you there...you recognize it!
Pay tribute to the Water Queen!

Take stock of what has failed to stop the sickness from spreading!
The truth is there for you to see!

    No mercy can stop this!
    No barricades are high enough!
The quarantine is a ruse to protect the wealthy!
The wealthy....they that would be rich upon the sea's bounty...but fail to pay tribute to the Queen!

But all will suffer on....if tribute is not made!

Does continued deaths....a spreading sickeness scare you?
Of course it does...and when cures are offered but do nothing to save your family, your friends...where do you turn?
    Turn to the Gods!
Turn to the Gods that have might! Power to bring a clensing to this city!
I only say to you what you can see for yourself...the truth is before you!

Redemption! A clensing is what is needed in the Gate! Seek the power of the storm...the power of the sea!
It provides the life blood of this city...do not deny it's power!
Seek to pay tribute to it! Your very life may depend on it!

Pray to the Water Queen...that she may send a clensing to the Gate!
Show your faith in her, in your time of suffering! It is what shows strength!
Do not look to mercy for a cure....already, you have seen it fail!
The barricades fail! The Dukes fail you! Seek divine redemption!

I have spoken to you of the path.....it is you that must take control of your own lives!

To not act...is a weakness...and this sickness, takes the weakest, first!
Find a way to let the Water Queen hear your tribute!

*with that final set of words.....the bard steps down and moves onward through the city...chanting as he goes...*
Pay tribute to the Queen...before it is too late.....
Pay tribute to the Queen...before it is too late.....
Pay tribute to the Queen...before it is too late.....
The man of words speaks sharply—there is no doubt to it. What he says both draws attention and pushes it away...but the people only need to hear him, then look to the reality of the day in the Gate, to determine what their own actions shall be....

A drummer plays and plays his undulating—some say unrelenting...—beat, at the edge of the quarantine line, manned and guarded by Flaming Fist soldiers, holding people from freely crossing in.

At some time, the drummer is interrupted by a Man of a Million Questions, and also, of Expressions of Unrest. The drummer rebuffs him, redirecting the Man of a Million Questions to seek the Gods, for his answers...for only they can determine the future...so speaks the drummer, aloud, in-between chants and spoken word directed to the people that pass by.

The drummer plays on through until the night has come...when, a continuous rain begins to fall upon the stone streets of the Gate...

A long, white-haired man framed his soul-deep, conflicted expression towards the drummer, squinted into the pouring rain, and took in the view of ragged, dirty, pestilence-shrouded citizentry swaddled in torn clothing with their hollow, dead eyes.

The sunrise cutting across the carpet of the Merchant League and neighboring structures; the rays of light revealing the etched lines of pain within despair-filled faces teasing from the bars of necessary imprisonment. The chill of the environ was the apotheosis of doom in stark contrast to the glow of the bay, and the bustle of titan-sized ships slapping against the bad-tempered albeit commerce-creating waves.

"And when will this storm strike these very shores? I am a faithless, I prefer to rely upon logic and reason to educate the masses."
Lusca answered, playing the undulating beat relentlessly. "To know that...you will have to submit to the Water Queen, yourself."
"I am willing to submit myself before Her if it may result in answers... the city of Baldur's Gate deserves no less."
"Then you will do what you will do."

Dave Counterpunch,The Man of a Million Questions, departed towards the South, where the opportunity for more answers could be met sufficently. He eyed the sky, expecting thunder to strike him like a sharp-edged boulder. He knew one thing about the coming storm. He hated it.

*On the 25th day of the Hammer, members of the Trust Company were seen carrying many wooden boxes into the Ilmateri temple. A keen eyed bystander might note this took quite some time, and represented a bit more then two caravan wagons worth of food.*

after the group arrives, the paladin dose not wait asking ivan to set up scouting party's around the local area and towards the tomb to gather more information, Lord Revenark Stonehold is tasked with setting up patrol's around the surrounding area.

the paladin takes a small group back to the coast to further study the area and hopefully learn what they are up against.

At the entrance to the East Gate District in Baldur's Gate, a bearded man, along with a copper-haired druidess, a half-elven ranger, and a smirking elven woman, hands off a large crate to a well-known priest of Ilmater, which is then promptly delivered to the temple of Ilmater. Healing kits, scrolls and other supplies could be found in the crate.
