Based off of advice from a lore expert (Rhys) he said most warlocks become warlocks due to poverty. And since, most are poor and not sitting pretty, unlike the dukes... one could speculate warlocks to be fairly common. Again, this is pure speculation.

Your average adventurer knows there are different kinds of magic, and you don't have to study wizards, sorcerers, clerics, etc for very long to at least be able to tell the differences. If a DM comes out and says that warlocks somehow get special treatment in this case then so be it. Until then I gotta RP the reference material I have to go on.
The problem with this type of deduction method is that you're now making the BIG assumption that your
average adventurer is somehow aware of all the different forms of magic and spell-like abilities in the known universe. And that he's also aware of what a warlock even is. I'd say Warlocks ARE rare because pacts would be rare, especially ones lasting long enough to grant the warlock much power (ie to lvl 30). ALL Devils will want to harvest the soul as soon as possible. I'm not sure where you'd find this in lore, but I know certain DM's have echoed these sentiments, TheVoid springs to mind for one. Devils and Fey aren't these nice things that dish out power to everyone who asks. They want to see return on their investments VERY quickly. This factor alone would mean that Warlocks would be a rarity.

He really said that...?
A warlock is made because someone wants power they can't get elsewhere and as fast. It has little to do with poverty, but more to do with unrestrained ambition and greed. Most poor people are not particularly greedy and don't have any higher ambitions than going to bed well-fed.
I would guess that Warlocks are probably as rare as any epic level characters at any time in lore.

I could see a fair number of characters using a motive of feeding on the resentment of being shabbily treated by the aristocracy. Thus feeding an unrestrained revenge motive for power.

Maybe, but you still need to attain the knowledge to contact the future pact-holder. That lends itself more to the resourceful, rich and/or influential people. Or sorcerers/wizards, like Ammon Jerro.

Not all those who serve devils always have their souls snatched when they die. The fiendish codex does say that those who,s damnation is assured, are commited and willing to serve as useful minions, and actually want to go to hell are often allowed to be released so that they can continue to work the devil's agendas. So whether your warlock would be allowed to come back or not would depend on how useful you are to them alive. If you were one of their best operatives and completed every quest they issued you flawlessly than yeah they prob would allow it. If on the other hand you fail every mission, don't actually want to go to hell, and are a general clutz... then you might have a problem. It all comes down to usefulness.

Hi, not sure this topic is quite the place to ask this but I wanted to play a Hellfire Warlock with using RCR from my other character which is level 12 Human. I would probably create a human again unless you have a better idea.
My question is that although I understand all the requirements for HF WL I wanted to make sure if Lore Planes or just the basic Lore is required to meet that prestige class. I already tried a build but failed to unlock it. She was a Chaotic character, had 6 intimidate and 12 Planes lore also enough spellcraft but didn't work.
But I also vaguely remember to pick a background which I assume was a fiendish ancestry or something like that. Could that be the case which contradicts with the requirements of the class. Please help appreciated!

You also have to have either Brimstone or Hellrime blast.

Good Warlocks, even one pacted with fiends, can certainly exist.
In source, there was both the
warlock alignment description and
the hellfire warlock description to back this up.
(In the case of Hellfire Warlock, both:
-Its allowance of good and none-evil alignments
and
-The Lore: The Planes "DC 20: Though hellfire itself is anathema to good, not all who wield it are evil. Some manage to temper the corrupting effects with a strong will and steadfast resolve. The mightiest among them even bend hellfire to serve the forces of good."
serve to back this up.)
The staff here have seen fit to change Hellfire Warlock to "evil only" on this server, but haven't provided any custom lore to back up this decision as of yet, so it is kinda in the air for that one. That could have just been an oversight based on ignorance of the lore, or it could have been a decision with full knowledge of the lore. A statement from the DMs (and preferably an entry in the wiki on Hellfire Warlock BG lore) would clear that up if it was an intentional decision.
As far as types of pact, the staff has given their blessing to go for Fey, Demons, Devils, and Star (Far Realms). Others can include Elemental, Slaadi, Eladrin, or any other extra-planar creature that can be Evil or Chaotic. It should be noted that in
this thread it was advised to stay away from named, lore unique, or overly important creatures without DM permission.
Those are my thoughts, as far as Warlock lore goes.
Edit: (((Also, this is some thread necromancy. Holy crap :O)))
