Enough with the rp bias whining!

Thayvian, I have no idea how you play your character. But since I rolled LG I'm curious to know what your recommendations are for how I should play my own PC when someone is in a public area talking about how they're going to flay children alive or some such thing. I'll emphasize again I have no idea how you play your character. This is more of a reaction to RP I saw in public while playing my CN, who didn't much care.

See that's the thing. That's Chaotic Evil Stupid instead of lawful stupid.

I would suggest roleplaying your character as the justicar of your god. But you don't have to smite to correctly roleplay this.

I play a Lawful Evil thayan. He only talks about magic and mercantile trade in public. Why because he does not want to be flayed. Even the CE I have that worships bhaal keeps it to himself.

I have no sympathy for the character being smashed in the face with a hammer for being obviously horrifically evil in public. However this is a slippery slope and could easily get out of hand.

Is the lawful evil Thayan selling wares smite able ? Well maybe is he currently breaking laws. well no he is a lawful charcter. Likewise do you Smite nobels, merchants, politicians etc..

Anyways It gets a little confusing I don't have an easy answer for you.

I do remember the book tales of candle keep (not 100% sure if the name is correct) It's a collection of short stories set in FR.

One tells the story of a cleric of Sune trying to change the mind of a necromancer and leave his evil ways. It's an a funny story where the necromancer lights the clerics cape on fire from time to time. Eventually the clerics makes his cloak wet ahead of time. Eventually he gets to have his ideological discussion he wanted. Only in the end to be cursed on death to be undead. He than ends up in under mountain as an undead skull rolling around harassing rats.

It's funny and shows other ways of dealing with evil in Toril.

I suppose we can disagree on that. Because it usually is thin as ice. Regardless we should concentrate on the Ops.. post

Your experience may be more from being a Thayan than being evil... There are characters in game that hate Thayans, either because they're Rashemi or because of some things that happened with Thayans in the past. I wouldn't assume they are using the thinnest possible RP, maybe they have very valid past RP that makes them react to your red robed wearing wizard.

I can tell that this is an important topic for discussion, and I can see that much of the conversation here has been productive.

One thing that raises red flags with me is that many posters are using specific players as "examples" to support their points, for or against a given argument.

A lot of the times, this has been in violation of forum rules #2 and #3:

2. "Flaming," personal attacks, disrespectful, derogatory, threatening, insulting, or negative comments directed towards or about another member of the community will not be tolerated. This encompasses "trolling," or posts purposely intended in instigate a member of the community in order to create any of the above or disrupt the discussion.

3. If you have an issue with any other player or member of the staff OOC or ICly, do not post about it on the forums, instead use personal messages to solve it.

Please keep in mind that nobody likes having their character or their RP used as a "case study" for the purpose of supporting a given ideology, especially if they're being used in a negative fashion or being cast in a negative light.

A common theme throughout much of the arguments here has been that there has to be respect between players. I agree with this. Keep this in mind when using another player to make a point -- unless you're praising their roleplay, you're probably not showing them respect when using them in this fashion.

Well I would personally disagree with this. Because the RP does seem thin as ice. When are there are hundreds of possibilities to role play this without pvp. And having witnessed this first hand I can tell you it's not fun or great RP. Regardless of your characters background hating a specific character.

"I hate you"(your than set to hostile) "leave or die" The extant of the RP.. <<< that right there is an issue and thin as ice.

What you seem to be forgetting is that your characters past RP or whomevers past RP is not seen by the person your attacking. Your story could be grand. But the other players don't know this.

There have been many suggestions that a Tell would be better before you set someone to hostile.


Regardless. I think the OP has some points. And to be fair given the headache this topic has caused me in the past resulting in bans for protesting against the lack of rp. I have no further interest in discussing it.

Good luck to all evil characters out there . This server has a HUGE issue that DMs and player base is not addressing, regardless of how many people keep bringing it up. You are clearly being shunned and ignored, by people not caring about anything but their own characters actions and development/ story. They don't care about your time effort Roleplay. Or interest in PVP.

Again you only need to look the character build section to see why PVP should be removed and how it ruins roleplay.

could her attitudes evolve or change through in-game RP? absolutely

but until or unless that happens, I don't see her being okay about being around them, and depending on the circumstances may very well let them know that in character...

I'm sorry. But I no longer wish to discuss this or talk about my characters in particular. Would it be possible keep it about the Op posts rather than Thayans. Thank you for understanding.

I would also note this seems just like an excuse to forgive abusing other players without consequence. Which is more often than not. What PVP people want.
