Biographical Summary

The seafaring nation of Impiltur has always been an oddity amongst others on Faerun, as most of its citizens have refused to succumb to the demands of the dreadful Umberlee, boldly choosing instead to defy her wicked will directly. Most of Impiltur are Damaran by blood and, just as is often said of those from that lineage, are adamant in their ways and difficult to intimidate. Rather than bend their knees to the Bitch Queen, they have chosen to place their faith in the protective embrace of more benevolent deities. Amongst these, one of the most prominent has been Selune, whom sailors have depended upon to guide them through the vicious seas. In even the tiniest parts of Impiltur, at least a shrine to the Moonmaiden can be found.

It was in one of these innumerable port settlements in Impiltur where Ameline, the daughter of an esteemed sailor and a local priestess of Selune, was born. While the family was not especially wealthy, they were blessed enough to have a modest amount of luxury. Since her father, Erik, was often out on a sea voyage of some sort, the infant Ameline was often in the care of her mother, Dorine. Although most of Selune’s clerics in the region were expected to accompany seafarers on their travels, Dorine happily resigned herself to tending to the community, healing ailments and settling disputes as needed while raising her child.

As a young girl, Ameline was fascinated by the idea of adventure, an interest likely born of her father’s many exciting stories of his travels on the seas. She became captivated by the idea of heroism and daring. Having spent much of her time in the town’s small temple, a priest taught her to read at an early age. Promptly, she utilized this gift to immerse herself in tales of ancient champions and tales of modern adventurers alike. Vivid descriptions of valorous warriors braving the immense dangers of Faerun allowed her imagination to flow unhindered. Often, she would have all sorts of all sorts of pretend adventures with other children of the town. Even as she matured, her interest in exciting tales never faded.

When Ameline began to bloom into womanhood, she became a curvaceous and charming young belle. Her tranquil feminine allure made her quite the topic of discussion amongst her male peers. Although she was earning the reputation of a coastal beauty, she thought little of romance at the time herself, as she was preoccupied with another prospect. Around then, she was beginning her training to become a priestess, which she pursued quite eagerly.

In Damara, and by extension in the culturally similar Impiltur, children typically take their occupation from one of their parents. Certainly not an exception, Ameline eagerly sought to serve the Moonmaiden as her mother had. She was profoundly interested in the exploration element of her deity, desiring to journey to lands beyond as her father and mother had in the past. No longer content with merely reading tales, she wished to partake in tales of her own, with Selune as her guide and protector. Taught by the local clergy, primarily by her own mother, she learned what it meant to spread Selune’s word. She studied the tenets of her faiths, those of others, and the workings of divine magic, particularly its connection to faith. Her mother also saw to it that Ameline learn proper protocol and diplomacy.

In time, Ameline was prepared to accompany local sailors out to sea in order to aid them. In this, however, there soon arose a difficulty. Although Ameline was not an especially sickly individual, her stomach grew uneasy quite quickly aboard a ship. While her healing and augury skills were both more than satisfactory, the crew she served had trouble bearing her along with her chronic seasickness. Loathing that she was a burden in the slightest, the young priestess did her best to endure the discomfort for the long voyage. Many neophytes may have become discouraged by an upset such as this, but Ameline persevered, finding in it inspiration for a different endeavor. A frail stomach failed to shatter her adventuring ambitions.

Although accompanying seafarers was the norm for Selunite clerics of the region, Ameline felt no fear or shame in travelling the land. She would wander the roads, she planned, aiding her fellow wayfarer and illuminating places in darkness with the Moonmaiden’s light. Bidding her home farewell, she travelled westward through The Vast at the behest of the stars. Along her pilgrimage of exploration, she kept well in harmony with her goddess and her blade, she lent aid to various settlements she came across, treating local maladies and helping to eradicate nearby threats. Often, she would be found in prayer and training in anticipation of times ahead. One notable innovation in her exercises was practicing with her weapon blindfolded, as to better combat the wicked ones who employ the shadows, such as the servants of the goddess’ moral enemy, Shar. Eventually, her path led her to the Sword Coast, where she remains to aid the troubled land.

Personality Profile: Although Ameline is generally cordially and remarkably calm of temperament, she is quite adamant and difficult to compromise with. She is usually empathetic, but struggles with her godess' desire to show tolerance and respect towards even wicked beings, having been raised in a generally benevolent area. Always an admirer of heroes, her constant praise and her demonstration of appreciation towards those who show the bravery she adores and esteems might sometimes make the recipient a tad uncomfortable.

Misc Facts:
