Ungodly crits and power attacks....should it work this way?

Unread post by Vadenor »

Hello, just asking if this is a bug or not, i just saw someone crit for over 100 today and asked around and apparently WM/FB is a popular build. i checked the NWN 2 game engine and apparently power attack added before crit damage is multiplied. when i did D&D in PnP it was always added after. should it really work this way?

i also confirmed mechanics before posting

http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Critical_hit

EDIT i changed the wording to clarify after randy's and DM katzens posts.

You are vrong.

Extra attack "dice" are not calculated. Though, your STR, power attack, bonus from songs, buffs that gives enhencement or whatever, all of this is added before the multiplicator.

You must be referring to a smite built Paladin, one-shotting evil characters.

Never seen a scythe WM actually one-shot though. Unless it's a Rogue or perhaps an unbuffed, or partially buffed caster.

A typical FB/WM with 30 buffed strength will crit for 245 - 275 with a +4 scythe. Not too hard to break 300 damage with a bit more strength, overwhelming critical feat and an enlarge person wand.

EDIT: And here is a build I did for mar3 when he was requesting Charnag NPC builds: http://nwn2db.com/build.php?id=46025&version=1

With a +4 scythe, bulls strength wand, +3 charisma item, enlarge person wand and EDM activated it will average around 330 on a critical hit.

He gets 5 smites per day, and with a scythe has a ~10% chance of landing a critical hit. That assumes he doesn't miss any of his smite attempts either.

Most of the difficult monsters and bosses on this server are immune to crits anyways.

White wyrm isn't. I always have a lot of fun out there. Though, it's true that the two most dangerous "dongeons" are filled with monsters with crit imunities. Well, they are the two most dangerous for me because of my build I mean. Vault "Happy hugs" of the dead, and the maze.
