Journal of a Hin, by Brandos Merrymoon

*Foreword*

Hello. My name is Brandos Merrymoon, and I am a halfling (or a Hin, as some call us). I have lived in Daggerdale most of my life, and yet I felt that the rest of the world was calling me. All of my childhood, I knew I was different from the humans, as they shot upwards like weeds, and I stayed the same small height. Though I was never picked on, I knew people around there thought I was different. And that was fine with me. I am different.
And yet, it is this thinking that has caused me to travel. Part of it is just the desire to travel born in all Hin. The other part is that I want to teach the minorities and the majorities that perhaps it isn't too hard to get along, without slurs or anything of the sort.
My name is Brandos Merrymoon, and I am a Hin on a quest.

Arrival in Baldur's Gate

Recently, I have arrived in Baldur's Gate. And I can't say the place hasn't grown on me. The citizens here are kind, there is plenty of stuff to do, and they even have their own newspaper (one that I have submitted an article to, even!). I have even met a few more of my kin, which has been a great experience for me. Before this, I have never met another Hin, outside of my family.
The only thing about this place that puts me off is their strong hatred of the dark elves. I can very well understand this hatred, for I cannot say I have not heard the stories. But, the populace in its majority is extremely stubborn on this issue. They won't reason to the most part, and are very distrustful of drow, if not killing them on sight. The distrust is natural, but killing without an explanation? They even have a motto, "Tolerance is treason!".
I really don't know about this place. Currently, they only have a true hatred of the drow. But who's saying that the racial discrimination won't extend to others?

Sincerely,
Brandos Merrymoon
