Background:
As far as she's aware, her paternal grandparents were exiles from Cormyr. She never had a chance to learn more as her father left when she was six, leaving her and her mother without support in the trade city of Athkatla. Her mother was not completely unattractive, and often did the odd job or two throughout the night. The mother grew distant from the daughter however, and as the years passed distance became bitterness.
When she was 13 years of age, Louise was married off without her consent to a prospering merchant 20 years her senior in a bid to move out of the slums. Despite her mother's distinct coldness towards her, Louise still loved her and resigned to her fate without a fuss. She did not find the merchant overly offensive, and hoped that love merely needed time to blossom.
It never happened. After a year, hope faded mutually and though she did her wifely duties as best she knew, both knew there was no kindling left to start a fire. Her husband's trade business was also faltering at the time, the evidence of which increasingly compiled as he did business further and further away from the Promenade. Eventually at the age of 16, she was sold for the second time in her life without her consent.
The last she saw of her husband was when he told her to await an important shipment down in the lower docks. After a few hours of waiting, the slavers came for her. So obvious was their intent that Louise could not help but cry out once, in shock and amusement, at villainy so pitifully obvious.
On a ship bound for Skullport, one man grew uncharacteristically fond of Louise. Aside from the initial shock of being enslaved, she did not seem overly concerned with her dreadful fate and rather than speding time begging or pleading, she instead chose to become familiar with her captor. A smile here, a 'thank you for the food.' there, and a few days later the man had found that he had been telling her his problems and wishes, though she hardly said a word. Bound and blindfolded, Louise never got to see her unexpected friend during the voyage. Nor would she when she was spirited away in escape.
Docked in Roaringshore in the middle of the day, the sounds of loading and unloading prevelant in the air, Louise had taken a nap. She stirred at the sound of a sickening crunch, a spray of warm liquid splashing upon her face accompanied by a dying man's last gasp and subsequent thud. Her bindings were undone though one hand was all that was needed to keep her arms in check. She was roughly handled through the chamber though she gave no signs of intending to resist, and was bent forward through a hatch a cannon might have peered out of.
"Don't look for me." was the last she heard of him before she was shoved out and into the cold, dark sea. After some initial thrashing due to not knowing how to swim, she composed her mind quickly enough to at least direct her movements toward shore, before consciousness faded from her. When she awoke, the face that greeted her was a smiling out-of-breath Ilmatari priest, who introduced a world view for her to follow. Time had claimed him shortly after, but it was long enough to stamp Ilmater's presence in her heart. In the year 1347 DR, Louise came to Baldur's Gate.
Goals:
Louise has no personal goals she actively persues. While she is curious of the identity of her captor-turned-rescuer, she respects his wish of not wanting her to see him. She instead dedicates her life to helping others, no matter who they are or what they've done.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
Louise is very trusting, as such she actually travels with and supports a group of characters who do intend great evil. They keep her in the dark about their motives however, leading her to believe they intend to spread goodness upon the realm. As such, she has yet to meet very many other Ilmateri, her 'friends' constant scheming and getting into trouble keeping her very busy.
