Habits/Hobbies: Jakis' most prominent habbit is surely the overestimation of his own capabilities. He thinks he can outsmart anyone, he thinks he looks better than most, and he thinks that he can beat almost anyone at almost anything. The reality is, he's of average wit, of average look and not more skilled at most things than your average hin. Needless to say this often gets him in trouble.
Jakis loves gambling above all else. He's lucky AND knows how to cheat (one thing he's fairly good at).
Not being able to beat someone or something drives him mad to a point where it almost becomes an obsession.

Background:
Jakis was born in Athkatla, his father a sailor and his mother a dancer. Needless to say he didn't see his father too often. With his mother working for hours each day, he received most of his education out in the streets of Athkatla. This is also where already at a young age, he found a second "family". A band of kids, led and taught by an older hin who was just called "Pa" by everyone. Rumor had it that Pa answered to his own Pa, who answered to another higher ranked Pa. But Jakis never found out, as he had seen what happened to those who were too curious and asked the wrong questions: They were found floating in the river.
"In time I will know" Jakis often thought to himself "I am , hands down, the best and most talented of our band. And if there's someone that Pa answers to, it's only a matter of time until he will hear about me and reward me accordingly. Who knows, in time I may even rule over Athkatla's underbelly."
Thoughts like this often crossed his mind. It did come as a surprise when Pa told him one day that he had to leave Athkatla. "With the war between Amn and Baldur's Gate imminent, we need our eyes and ears in Baldur's Gate. Our best eyes and ears if I may say so." Pa was flattering. "Your task shall be to gather any kind of information you can aquire. How does the general populace feel about the war? How do they feel about the dukes and the way they rule? How many armed men do they have stationed in the city? How good is their morale and might they chnage sides even? This kind of information.
Also - and I need you to be very careful here - Try to get in touch with the underbelly of Baldur's Gate. What is their stance on the upcoming conflict? Remember though, you are there to observe, not to act. I will expect letters from you regularly. There's a place called Roaringshore not too far from Baldur's Gate. Find the fisherman called Fishy Pete, he will deliver the letters. Keep a low profile, and not word to ANYONE else. Can you do that?"
Still baffled by the fact that Pa finally admitted his true worth, Jakis could only nod and answered: "Easily."
And thus, Jakis travelled to Baldur's Gate.

Goals:
Jakis is in Baldur's Gate to gather information, as seen above. In his own eyes, this task is underchallenging though. So he is looking for a BIG thing to do, something that will make the bosses of Pa listen up and recognize his worth once and for all. For now, he hasn't had an idea yet though.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
Starting with a misc fact: Jakis' name Fifesilver refers to his ancestors, who made pipes of silver. He always introduces as Jack Five Silvers though, and has a great deal of stories why he is called Five Silvers - all of them glorifying him in one way or the other.

He is working for some mafia like organisation from Athkatla, which organisation that is he has no clue, he just knows his one superior named "Pa" and the other boys in his band. If it is just a local gang of thieves and thugs or maybe the infamous Shadowthieves of Amn is for the DMs to decide.

Being the over confident fellow that he is, Jakis will accept almost any challenge, even if it's a foolish, highly improbable or outright dangerous thing to do. He would not arm-wrestle against an orc, but if you'd bet with him that he can't sell a greataxe to the highpriest of Illmather, he would accept the bet and insist on doubling the wager.
