[Background]

Kieran was born in Crimmor, the most important caravan staple of Amn and grown up in an orphanage lead by followers of Ilmater as his mother threw him away when his father left them. He got the name Kieran after his father and Beryl from the Sisters after his intense green eyes.

He was doing fine until his powers awakened. He often found himself waking up in the middle of the night screaming thanks to a recurring dream. In his nightmares he’s in a dark room surrounded by glowing red eyes, hideous noise of flapping wings and derisive laughter.
Because of this, the rest of the children made fun of him so it wasn't a pleasant childhood, thus he became a loner. All he had were the poor assortment of books and the thought of being one of the adventurers exploring the whole world.
While he had such dreams, he also had a hard time with all those restrictions and rules of the human society. He had fun following others or when a new caravan arrived, sneaking into the local inn just to harken and listen to the stories of the newcommers. Still the Sisters were always nice to him, no matter how much of a troublemaker he was.
Being a rogue was his life and not just to sneak up on others, but when the locals noticed him he also had to learn to pull his own weight by dealing with the hateful kids or … the angry inkeepers. When he turned 19, he wanted to find his own way, to know more of this world, much more than he could learn from mere books or stories, so he left the orphanage looking for adventures and perhaps, friends.
Sadly, the world was more cruel than the children were before...

It all seemed so easy, hiding on a caravan and just going forward, but he had to find that, it won't be that easy after all. Luckily he could run away and hide in the forest before the caravan guards could capture him. It was just the beginning tho.
Living out in the wild all alone wasn't just hard, but almost impossible for someone who didn't know how to survive the challenges of the woods. While he could easily run off or avoid the people in Crimmor as he had the advantages of his heritage, but the animals and other habitants of the forest thought otherwise. True, one day when wolves were after him, he had no chance running away and in the last moment, in a snap, somehow a strange dark fire appeared around him. He was shocked for a moment, but he had to use the sudden confusion in order to escape and survive. Seems like his dark blood holds more secrets, than he thought.

They say „You don't appreciate something, until you lose it”.

Kieran had to learn this by the hard way. He had no home, or anything anymore, living in the orphanage with the Sisters seemed much better at that time. For the first time he missed that life, but he couldn't go back... he felt so embarrassed, he just couldn't look them in the eye anymore.

Living like this for months, slowly moving further north day by day, he slowly started to get used to this new life. True, no matter how hard he tried to hide his precence, the small animals always ran away from him, maybe another effect of his heritage he thought. Luckily the main road used by the caravans wasn't that far, so when a caravan stopped at night, to get food, mostly leftovers, he often payed them a visit.

No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't control his powers. It happened on a day like that, when a pack of wolves tried to eat him alive… again. Kieran thought it is the end of his journey, and his adventure will end before it could start, but after a sudden flash the wolf infront of him dropped dead .The rest of the wolves ran away after the leader of their pack died so easily and a shadowy man appeared on the other end of the clearing.

He was Graril the half-elven mage and follower of Shaundakul. He lived in that part of the forest, in his small lodge. Graril was surprisingly tolerant and let him stay for a while. While he lived there, he tried to help Graril around the house, since the mage was busy with his research for the long lost legendary sword the Acandar, aslo known as Menelmen Arrn’ess, the Skyway Stormbringer.

He started to like that life and for a change it wasn't that dangerous. The mage was pretty good when it came to using his arcane powers for his advantage, so Kieran asked if he could stay and learn. Graril wasn't the typical mage like anything Kieran heard or learned of before. The mages in the books Kieran read before were always physically weak and determined to master their arcane powers, while Graril was more like a woodsman.

Thanks to the mage Kieran found out about the origin of his powers and that he is probably bound by a pact. Sadly they couldn’t find out the details behind it.
For Kieran Graril became the first ideal, a free spirit living by himself, doing whatever he wanted.
Still a year the forest and the little lodge just wasn't enough anymore. Day after day Kieran just sat alone seeking the horizon and he decided... it's time to move on.
As he still wasn't good at saying farewell, he tried to leave unnoticed, but he couldn't fool Graril.
When he tried to sneak away the mage appeared infront of him with a friendly smile on his face. Kieran bowed his head at Graril and the mage answered with a single nod of approval.

Kieran moved north along the road, until he found a caravan. As he seemed capable, they let him join as a guard. After a few days the caravan reached it's destination... Baldur's Gate.
